    Thank you for this tear down. Have fixed my error 2 code by simply taking the pump out, giving it a spin, and taking the lollypop stick out making sure all is clean. Now works and saved me over a hundred pounds to replace. Found the pump and accessed it from under the unit. One happy bunny :)

    Thanks GazS for this video. Love seeing the internals. I took my 2018 LayZ Spa unit apart and it's similar, but different. It has no thermal trip switch, but the rubber nub remains. The heater is similar shape but different style. On the newer heater, there are still two temperature sensors but now a single over-temp thermal cut-off switch in place of the thermal trip switch of the older style. There is also only a single flow sensor on the newer unit. The air pump, while the same basic size/shape... looks different with easy to remove cap over the foam filter on top. The new unit also uses a large ground/earth bar where all components ground to. Cool to see the evolution of this popular unit.

    Thanks for the video. As expected the impeller system works exactly like a larger aquarium filter. My 8 month old Coleman keeps making more noise. It sounded like an impeller issue and that is probably what it is.

    Hi Gaz , I have Lazy spa monaco hot tub. When I turn the heater on the pump ,the electric supply to the pump keeps cutting out after a short period of time. This usually occurs roughly after 10 -15 minutes. I've pressed the reset button and changed the fuse and directly plugged into the mains electric, without the extension cable.

    Hi! Great video thank you! 1) Are you sure that is damage due to chlorine? Perhaps it could also just be hard water deposits? If it is chlorine damage to the aluminum, I wonder if bromine would be gentler.....2) I keep my jacuzzi built even over the winter, and it gets very cold here, based on your video, I think it would be safe for me to insulate (wrap) that entire unit as long as I was careful to leave the air holes open. If it overheated, it would protect itself...

      The overheat Function trip is the last line of defence. Usually it should be cooled by the water going through, but if the pump fails and the Flow sensor fails too, the overheat trip occurs. So yeah, stay away from the Ceramic heaters and youre gucci

    I know this was posted a few years, but I hope you get this question. I have a Coleman portable spa. A pitcher of water accidentally spilled on the outlet and top of the control board.
    The spa immediately shut off. The GFI power cord blew. Several attempts and replacing the GFI didn't work. I opened it up and discontinued all electric connections to the heater. The spa came on, but with a EO5 error. This error states "The pump thermometor connections" aren't working properly or is broken. What is the pump thermometor and where is it located>
    Kind regards, Debra

    Hi Gaz, Plug fuse was blowing (not RCD trip). Have measured resistence of heater elements A to A and get 115 ohms and 415ohms B to B - wires disconnected from terminal block. Does this still sound like heater element is broken?

    This is some excellent info here thanks Gaz, good on you! Sorry to add another question but our pump which was new out of the box 9 days ago is tripping the RCD when the heater or blower button is pressed, the pump runs and if the temp is dialed under current temp pump runs, ive pulled it to bits, its dry and circuitry looks fine.

      +Dan Bo the only way to properly identify the fault is to use a megohm tester, that said, its most likely to be the heater. Try running it with either of the two heating elements completely disconnected. Good luck mate

    Just bought a Miami model in June, heater didn't work out of the box. Opened a
    ticket for replacement. So far it's been 3 weeks with no replacement. Customer
    service told me yesterday that it was to ship today. Called today and they said
    they don't have any in stock. This looks like a nice tub, but I haven't been
    able to use it for a month, since the water is so cold in it. I'm not sure what
    the deal is with Bestway as a company, but they sure don't support their
    customers after the purchase. It only took 4 days to get it when I first
    ordered it, and now 3 weeks and no replacement. When things don't work out of
    the box, I see red!
    Any ideas if this is a consumer fixable problem? I'm sick and tired of waiting for them. Thanks

  • @applesvt

    has any one replaced the entire bestway pump/heater unit? for an intex pool I have for the summer, I completely threw out the included filter/pump assembly and used a Haywood pump and DE filter, crystal clear water now. I'd like to do something similar with the spa. Ditch the included unit, and attached a pump, filter, heater setup directly to the inlet/outlet of the spa. This would have many advantages, such as not relying on the in the spa filter cartridges that clog daily, and faster heating time. I don't need the bubbles, so that's not even a concern.

    • @alittlebitintellectual7361

      Id be interested in if you managed to do that. My thought is the Control Unit only switches 110/230 Volts to the pump and isnt limited by power much ( yeah dont forget Heater Draws 2000W so dont overdo it on a massive pump) but 200W For 16A 230V Circuits should be fine.

    thanks now I know which part is leaking, the air admittance value, does this mean the unit is scrap or can it be repaired... bad news Bestway are rubbish at customer support and no doubt the parts wont be availiable to make the repair ???.

    to fix e02 error just prime the pump, ie suck water through hose to pump then connect and start.

    Hey, any idea on this ? When I start the pump it runs for some time (few minutes) and then it suddenly goes off - display is off as well. The RCD seems to be fine. When I want to turn it on again, I need to disconnect the power, wait 20 seconds and then I am able to start it again with the RESET/Switch button. First I thought it happens only when I start the heater, but it turns off even with the pump only mode (it just takes more time). When I opened it, there was no water inside.. could it be the main board ?

    Ok, so I have a question. I haven't seen a wiring schematic, but I am hoping you have and can advise me. I am looking at purchasing one of these and I read that the air pump or whatever blows the bubbles can not run while the heater runs. What do I need to do to bypass that. Is it a sensor that detects air flow that tells the heating element to kick off or what? I have some amount of know how that might allow me to bypass the device if i know what to bypass. Also, before bypassing, do you know the reason that they are not allowed to run simultaneously?

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  8 лет назад

      The reason they cannot run at the same time is the 13 amp power supply. running heaters, water pump, and air blower at the same time would cause an overload. This is programmed into the main board. Not easy to circumvent, but not impossible. The Heater would still not overcome the cool down that occurs with the air pump running.

    Hi There, I'm using the lay z spa heater with a softub tub, The water inlet and outlet work perfectly but I'm worried as water is escaping the tub and flowing towards the air pump, should i be worried or does the valve stop water from entering the pump??

      The non return valve isolates the air pump motor from the water, so will be safe. I can only comment from my observations during the teardown, please seek professional advice if at all concerned . I can't be held responsible for anything as result of my assistance. Thanks, Gaz S

    Hi
    Yesterday when I was testing the water, had a very small "tingly" electric shock from the water. RcD in the pump isn't tripping and the unit works as expected, heats, blows etc. I measured the current and it was around 5v from the water to the decking around the hot tub. I didn't have a proper earth to test the voltage from water to earth. Why isn't it tripping and what is causing the water to be electrified? Could it be possible it's full 230v and because of the decking I'm not earthing it properly? Worth taking the egg apart and inspecting the heater elements?

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  8 лет назад

      There's no actual RCD inside the unit, its checked by the pcb. The Heater is almost certainly the culprit, as its the only part directly in contact with the water. (pump is low voltage). But there's no fix, as it doesn't come apart. ideally you need a megohm tester, but could use a decent multimeter , best ask someone competent to test it for you. Is there any other electrics (lights etc) that may cause an earth leakage to the decking ? , just an idea . Please let me know the outcome. Cheers GazS

    • @ThomasHaxley
      @ThomasHaxley 8 лет назад

      +Gaz S thanks for the super fast reply. I have a working level of electrical knowledge but I work at a firm who does electrical training, inspection and testing, pat etc so will take it into work and take it apart with the guys there. Nothing on the decking is electric, no external lights etc. As soon as i unplug the pump the voltage goes away. I suspected heating element, the spa is 4 years old so I think it's overdue an element failure from what I've been reading!

    Hi Gaz S i was wondering if you could help me, i have a problem with water flow error message E02 what can i do ? Thanks.

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  8 лет назад

      if you have water flow it can only be one of the two flow sensors. you can test continuity at the two wires to each sensor. they are just a magnetic read switch.

    • @Dett0x
      @Dett0x 8 лет назад

      Thanks for you swift reply, but i have no idea what you just said, I do have water flow because i can make bubbles i just cant heat it up it says E02 when i try to.
      What i have to do is check the two flow sensors ? Where are they ?

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  8 лет назад

      The Bubbles come from the air pump not the water pump, the two flow sensors are the first two sensors on the top hose. 4 screws on top of each. they are identified in my video. The water pump may only run for a short time if no flow is sensed. both sensors are the same and they act like a switch, on or off

    • @Dett0x
      @Dett0x 8 лет назад

      Yeah, that must be why when i try to heat it up i hear the noise for 5 to 10 seconds and then it stops with a E02 error message so that must be the problem, so what i should do is look for the sensors with the 4 screws on top and check themby doing a test of continuity at the two wires to each sensor ?

    I see flow sensors but where are the heat sensors. I do not think mine is working. I am unsure what to buy. My unit only has one flow sensor. I see a sensor at the top like the one here. ( I assume to be the heat sensor) It has that grey box with the thing that resembles a dial. But on the side of that there is a wire that goes in from the side that looks to have a heat wrap on it. I would love to get this running, Just need a little direction. I thought there were two heat sensors in a spa?

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  8 лет назад

      Am only familiar with the pump unit I have, if there's only one (look at 01:50 in my video) temp sensor will be in the water flow before the pump. do you get any error codes displayed ?, usually any fault will cause unit to beep and not start up. Try removing an re-fitting all wire connections. hope things workout for you. message me if you have any further info. Thanks GazS

      Unless you use the bubbles (air) a lot... and in a dusty place... I wouldn't think cleaning of the filter to be that big of a deal. It's easy to get to. The whole top of the egg comes off with only 6 screws and the air pump filter is on top... easy to get to. Be careful of the ribbon cable going up to the display panel when you lift the top half of the egg/unit off.

    Error 04 is probably a failed temperature sensor . Its also worth checking sensor connections at the board

    Hi,
    I'm using this pump to power a homemade hot tub base. Do you know which pipe is cold water in and which 1 is hot water out please

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  9 лет назад

      bottom pipe is inlet, top is hot outlet. I don't think the heater is is built to last, will fit a dishwasher heater to it when it fails. solid control system though .

      +richie lodge Hi Richie, I'm building my own fibreglass hot tub, and I'm going to use my lazy spa pump, how did you connect the pump to your own air jets?

    • @TribesTrike

      @@Eastbaypisces in the base, there's room for a dishwasher heater (stainless pipe with external element wrapped round) . wired it to a second power cable & plugged it into a second power socket. Its heats up more than twice as quick.

    Hi, i believe that my air admittence valve is leaking, it only leaks when the pump is running, any idea how to fix this? The only idea i have would be to buy a heavier spring to put on it

    • @TribesTrike

    hi Gas S, today my unit e02. If I smack the side, sometimes it comes on for about 5-10 seconds then e02 again. would this be those flow sensors too, or the pump? I hear something faintly making noise when no flow, then it e02. this happened right after it e02 to tell me filters were dirty. I changed filters, then this stuff happened. any help would be appreciated - I need this bad starting next week after hunting! thanks!

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  8 лет назад +1

      +popdaddy12345 if you get normal water flow then it stops e02 there's probably crap caught inside one of the flow sensors. If there's no water flow have a look at the pump impeller. Worth pulling and refitting all wire connections inside unit as well. Hope things work out mate. GazS

      Gaz S thank you very much. i am taking apart this weekend & will report back with results

    • @_GlockComa
      @_GlockComa 8 лет назад +1

      Gaz S ok i took it apart, took pump apart & impeller is clear & clean. should it spin freely? because mine didnt, but i didnt want to force it. took flow sensor off, was pretty clean except for a small bit of hair. i only have 1 flow sensor in mine. 2 questions: how do i test this without refilling whole hot tub & reconnecting? & 2nd - i see some chlorine deposits on heater element - should i take apart & wire brush that since the unit is apart? Thx!

    • @_GlockComa
      @_GlockComa 8 лет назад

      Gaz S hey any answer you can give me? how do i test unit without possibly wasting 200 gallons? and the heater chlorine deposits - can those be wire brushed off? thanks!

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  7 лет назад

      you can test with a multi meter, the flow sensor is only a switch, actuated by a magnet. the pump will cog as you turn it. worth trying to run without filter.

    • @TribesTrike

      The reset button is on a over temperature trip. its just a failsafe incase the heater gets too hot

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  7 лет назад

      +Darren Lock take the lid off and remake the connections to the temperature sensors. Also try swapping them over with each other. One of them may need replacing. Test the resistance of each of them (after several hours of switched off to allow temperature to equalise) they should read almost the same as each other.

    • @TribesTrike
      @TribesTrike  8 лет назад

      its probably a ntc sensor (one each on boiler in/out) a dual gang 1k variable pot wired parallel to each sensor will alter temp range. display on pump will now show a lower temp than actual .

      If you pump assy is same as my video, there's no reason to back flush, as the filter is inside the spa, screwed on bottom inlet. There's no other filters inside the unit. GazS
