Lay-z-spa hot tub E02 - how I fixed it AND leaking pump problem fixed

  • In this video I tackle how to fix your seals (in a very cowboy way) to stop water leaking out of your pump.
    I also refer back to my previous video on another channel (E02 pump strip down) and show you the switch I put in place to eradicate the error) see • lay z spa pump heater ... for the tear down.
    You are now on the sailing channel I talk about - please subscribe :-)
    I used....
    2 x 23mm I/D Nitrile rubber x3mm cross section (packs of 10 from 'sealsuppliesuk' - eBay for £2.65) - you may want to use 23mm I/D.
    I used a shed load of PTFE tape (but didn't need to)
    And finally I used some siliconised rubber sealant which I happened to have handy - this is because I didn't have the right seal for the water pump.
    Here is switch that will do the job for the E02 fix. You'll need some wire and a spade connectors too.
    PLEASE NOTE: SENSORS ARE THERE FOR A REASON AND PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE BYPASSED. (this note was added for "I've been fixing these for 8 years Mr Angry" who decided to call me names for being dangerous.... but he would say that, he's no longer making money out of you all)

    Hi. Thanks for posting.
    My Vegas E02 error was fixed by an impeller change.
    The impeller looked ok and the spindle was not broken, but the lower rubber cup was elongated.
    The leaks in the flow and return pipes, where they fit to the spa, were due to perished rubber washers.
    However be careful to get a 39mm inside diameter O ring for the magnetic reed switch housing.
    When I removed mine to check for debris and check it was working correctly, when refitted, it leaked due to age compression of the original o ring.
    I got mine from a car parts shop with a box of assorted o rings. It was a bit fat but works well with a bit of vaseline on it on on re-assembly.
    Good Luck. You can do it.

    I have had to purchase one of these pumps every 18 months, I've just paid for the 3rd pump which is handy for Bestway as the warranty is only 12 months.

    Thanks. We just got one for Christmas. Have to check if still working because of the alarm sounding at new years. Cold weather not supposed to be on below 4 degrees Celsius. Haven't used since waiting for warmer weather. Maybe Easter holidays refill.

    I've got a feeling that when the impeller shaft breaks, you will regret applying that silicone sealant rather than installing the proper o-ring.

    Argh! I honestly thought I had it then - fitted the new magnetic switch from Farnell and it started to run ok for the first time since I started working on it, then it stopped after about 20 seconds and now its back to E02 within 3 seconds of turn on again exactly like before. Flow is fine, nothing is clogged - about to give up now!

    My brand new Vegas suddenly stopped heating the water after about 3 weeks of use. No error codes have appeared on the pump, the water is still pumping through the machine and everything looks to be working fine - just no heat! We bought a new heating element and have replaced it...but its still not heating! Just wondered if you have any suggestions of anything else to try?

    So I’ve stripped down everything and checked for blockages / scale and there’s nothing but I’m still getting e02 error after about an hour. I’ve checked the flow sensors (my model has 2!) and they appear to switch correctly when the magnet is within a cm of them so seems unlikely to be that. The only thing I can think of is there’s a slight rattling or clicking sound when the pump is running so am wondering for it’s the impeller though it looks fine, any thoughts?

    Would there be a reason you couldn't take out the black seal and get a new one back in? Is it glued in or something? On a related note, how long had you been using your tub before you had this problem?

      Hi Dan, I thought I'd replied to this already - sorry! The only reason I didn't use a new gasket rubber ring is because I didn't have one and didn't want to wait for one to come. no, it isn't glued in. We've had the pump unit about 2.5 years now.

      Hi Marcus, thanks for the comments. I'm glad I can help. To be honest. it's probably your magnet in the flow sensor, not the reed switch. And... to answer your question..... I can't find them new at all. all I have seen is expensive second hand parts. Hence I put a switch in.
      I'm going to make a video about it soon....

    • @RichardBrocklesby101
      @RichardBrocklesby101 4 года назад +1

      @moors4572 sorry, not yet. But basically it's just a switch in parallel. You can either cut the wires to the sensor or better to get a black molex connector to replace the sensor entirely. I mounted the switch by drilling a hope in the top of one of the handles.

    I had exactly the same leak issue with my pump a while ago, and also ended up bodging it a bit with some automotive sealant.... I now have an issue with the pump itself, it seems like the pump internally is jammed, the impellor is free to spin but when turned on the pump doesn't run and then eo2 errors a few seconds later from seeing no flow presumably. I have tried to run it out of the egg connected to a 12v battery and still no luck. Would you know of anywhere to get replacement pumps from? They seem impossible to find

    • @SailingFreeSpirit
      @SailingFreeSpirit  4 года назад

      Hi, thanks for your comment. These pumps are very difficult to find, and the few that area available are expensive. Regarding the pump itself, you could put a regular plug on the 12v transformer and see it that spins the pump I suppose. Although I suspect your E02 is more to do with a flow sensor than the pump itself. check out the pump strip-down video linked in the description and maybe try a good magnet next to the flow sensor as soon as you turn the pump on.

    I did almost the same thing; because e02, but my seal ring inside the unit still had some size, so I closed up the unit, and turn it back on; and now I have an e01 error. has anybody found a fix for this?

    • @SailingFreeSpirit
      @SailingFreeSpirit  4 года назад

      E01 is the warning that the flow sensor is "closed" when the machine first turns on. It may also be that another sensor I'd in its wrong state too though. Check your red, black and blue plugs.
      If you're using a switch instead of the flow sensor then have it "open " when you power on the unit, then close it when the unit has done it's startup initiation.
      Hope that helps

    Just put our spa back out and have the E02 error, I've changed the sensor (thanks for that) but alas not fixed it, ive left descaler in it for a few hours then washed it out no joy,
    It runs for a couple of seconds then throws the code.
    What should be my next step?

    • @RichardBrocklesby101
      @RichardBrocklesby101 4 года назад

      Hi, thanks for connecting. Did you change only the sensor? Its usually the magnet that fails. One way to test that is to open the unit top so you can reach the sensor with any other magnet. Turn the pump on, then put the magnet next to the sensor.... I you get no error then you know its the magnet. I'll do a video for that this afternoon.

    Is the switch just wired in place of the sensor?

    • @SailingFreeSpirit
      @SailingFreeSpirit  4 года назад +1

      Yes, it should be. The best way would be to add a molex connector to match the black one for the sensor. I didn't have a molex so just soldered the switch in parallel with the sensor. Remember, if you leave the switch 'on' when you start the pump you will get error E01. So you need to have the switch 'off', then pump power on, then switch 'on', then filter/heat on. Hope that helps

      Hello,
      I have just ordered the switch due to a constant e02 error but everything appears fine.
      Does it matter what wire the switch gets attached to coming from the reed switch?
      If you have a picture that would be great as it’s not that clear on the video and your original video I can’t see the comments.

      @@scottvivian8855 I kept the flow sensor in place and connected my switch inline with the 2 wires that go to the switch. Before I start up the pump I ensure the switch is off so I don't get E01 error. Once it's running turn on the switch. I also removed the rubber flaps from inside the filter housing to increase the flow rate
