Hard to believe she's 6 now and already growing so big. I know hippos are like one of the most dangerous species known to man and all, but I can't look at them without feeling oddly comfortable. Happy birthday Fiona! ☺☺
Only in the wild are they really dangerous. The keepers work closely with these babies all the time.
MALE hippos are more aggressive. I don't know if females are up to that level of aggression. But she definitely wouldn't be this friendly to humans if she was a male.
She's still so cute!
@muffs55mercury61 well yes and no. Zookeeper will tell you wild animals retain wild instincts that can snap making them different than domestic species. However a hippo raised around humans is probably less dangerous than a wild one but still important to mitigate risks

Fiona has another 40 years or so, according to hippo lifespan estimates. So she'll be around for awhile.

WoW sweet little Fiona is 6 years old . Time flys. She’s still an adorable hippo. Her little brother wanted to attend her party and see what the goodies tasted like. He made me laugh when he jumped back a little when Fiona was taking a big bite of the goodies but then he moved forward and showed his sister his big choppers😂😂😂❤.

OMG, I haven't seen Fiona since she was just a baby calf, tiny, vulnerable, adorable, but look at her NOW! Seems she's still got some baby inside her, but that's likely from all the humans who cared for her. I don't know why, but I didn't expect her to grow so fast.
