Baby hippos are normally much larger than Fiona was. She was basically what in human terms would be called a micro-preemie, ie a baby so small the chances of survival are very slim.
But an update my friends- Fiona now has a baby brother named Fritz- their mama was able to carry him the whole term of hippo confinement- amazing to see how much bigger he was than Fiona at birth- makes one appreciate how much of a micro-preemie she once was. They have been introduced to each other through gates between- but Fiona seems rather interested in the little guy, no sibling jealousy, perhaps that only happens with Human Children 🤔

I had to rewind it twice when Fiona was born because she slid out so fast I didn’t realize that was her at first! All I saw was a blob on the ground and then they were talking about a baby! She’s soooo cute. I was in tears every minute that she was suffering, she’s absolutely adorable! This was such a nice story and what an absolutely amazing group of people at the zoo- definitely a close knit family and genuinely wonderful and kind people. It was so nice to see the doctors from the children’s hospital help Fiona- that was probably the best part. It’s always people helping the children’s hospital, but you never see the other way around so I loved that they showed that since I love animals. Such a sweet and happy story. Thank you for working so hard to keep this cute hippo alive. Even though I am in California, I really feel close to the Cincinnati Zoo staff bc of these videos, and I appreciate all your efforts.
I keep saying this, but it's true, The Fiona Team did a great job with her. To see her now, as a normal, healthy baby hippo, you would never have known how far she has come. I still cannot get over how tiny she was when she was born.
Fiona is so adorable, she is precious. Thank you to all the keepers and doctors and the staff who were able to save her life, you are awesome, remarkable humans beings. It was hard work but it paid off! Love Fiona, a beautiful hippo . God bless her with continue health and a long life!

Why has like half the planet turned into these pathetic, needy, emo, emotional black holes that the rest of us have to put up with on Twitter and RUclips?
Way to go Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden!! As well as Cincinnati Children. This was a great video. Poor little Fiona. She is very lucky to have had so many people love her.
Good for Cincinnati Zoo caregivers for opening up their zoo caregiving methods. The community got involved because of it. And the community saw they were needed. This is the best example for other zoos. Too many times, zoo caregivers are taught or told that they must do it all themselves! And the community gets the message they are not needed, and the animals pay the price for this!
Give me a break. Zoos are always collaborating with whoever they think might help them. This is far from the first time a children's or regular hospital has come to the zoo to do procedures on all kinds of animals. Not only that but they collaborate constantly around the world with other zoos, animal reserves, animal rescues, museum, misc wildlife people, university staffs, national geographic, researchers, laboratories, equipment specialists, marine experts, builders, maintenance people, engineers, I could go on forever. ZOOS ARE KNOW FOR THEIR COLLABORATING. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT BEFORE PUSHING IT ON OTHER PEOPLE AND SPREADING MISINFORMATION. I love when people like the OP just makes statements as if they are true even though they are not fact based just so they can try to push a "lesson" on how something should be to whoever mind they can infiltrate. If you want to feel important than actually do or say something that is important. Don't just say crap to falsely make yourself feel morally high.
This isn't true at all. Zoos absolutely do this all the time. I highly suggest you watch some of these behind the scenes zoo programs, very interesting and informative about stuff these this.
She is a gift from God and now she has a baby brother. Can't wait till I can go see them! I will overdose on cuteness!!!! Little Fritz will need his big sister to mentor him!

An amazing story. I've been following Fiona since her birth, but was not aware how dire her condition was before the vascular location team came to assist. What a huge help that was. Thank you for the dedication of everyone who helped dear little Fiona. ☺💕
Kim Bloomfield omg She’s so cute❤️
As a person who was born early this holds a special place in my heart
I am thankful I am watching this years later knowing she not only made it, but is thriving. ❤ U Fiona! Thank you to all vets and caregivers involved!!!
I love how Children's hospital came to help baby hippo.
Where my dad lives this is our local zoo and I remember when Fiona was born you couldn’t even get a glimpse of her because everyone would crowd the tank.
Loving her ears! They remind me of Shrek for some reason. Too cute!
Shrek fiona omg its all coming together
Well her name is fiona
That’s why they named her fiona
Yes Shrek indeed is too cute
“Get out of my swomp!!” Oh her first words!!!!
Revisiting these Baby Fiona videos in Sept 2022. If I thought Fiona’s caretakers pulled off a miracle back then, I understand that fact 10,000 fold now as I look at Baby Fitz videos. So once again, BRAVO 🎉 🙌
I can’t believe this many people disliked this video I felt like I was there with them and I’m glad she made it
Just ignore them. They're looking for the attention their lives lack of
Yes. It's embarrassing.
Lol
I can't understand why they disliked it either
I haven't disliked it because I'm not that invested but I don't like that they took baby away from mum
That was tough to watch. All the emotions, watching moment to moment. All of the ups, and downs. Thank goodness for everyone, especially Cincinnati Children's, for fighting along with her, to keep her alive.
What a magnificent team effort; what a magnificent story; what a magnificent baby hippo! We love you Fiona. God bless all your loving caregivers.
I know it's 4 years old but that was an amazing convergence of dedicated professionals, (zoo & related to beings once believed to be too small to survive),who saved that beautiful little hippo, Fiona.
As has been said, humanity at its finest.

Cincinnati and the rest of the world held our breaths from the moment Bibi gave birth to that prescious little potato. These animals and the zoo crew's are miracles!
Unfortunate that she was premature but what an absolute privilege for the staff to care for her.
Hope she makes it
@@lindafarish3498 this was 5 years ago, she's doing great now, and just got a new baby sibling last month! New sibling was born healthily thankfully as well.
@@lindafarish3498 She is now huge, gorgeous & has a healthy cute baby brother
They probably leant a lot from Fiona , so they can teach other zoo keepers and help lots of others animals .
Thank you for saving her, I do not have the word to express how grateful I am that everyone who helped this beautiful creature! You all are just amazing.
hippo mom: * gives birth *
also mom: ight imma head out
They had to remove her to help the baby lol 😊
The reality is that Fiona wouldn't haVe survived in nature. Mom knew that, so she went about her business.
@@celieboo Damn😭

@@celieboo and in nature she would have had a normal birth. Captivity fucks with natural occurrences. So yay humans for saving the baby from the situation they put her in.
Thanks for sharing with us! ❤️
I love this miracle baby!! Thank you for everyone involved in saving Fiona's life! It takes a village!
So impressed by the combined effort of all these professionals to keep baby Fiona alive and thriving...
Hi 👋how’re you doing?
Love the fiona story. Everyone involved is a hero for that baby.
Fiona is so alive! I was 2 months early and survived because of dedicated zoo keepers like you! The problems for early people sound the same as the problems of early Hippos.
You were raised by zoo keepers?
@@Sara-xf7ls Ha! Human ones.
I KNOW that she's okay, and I STILL get anxious watching this video.

Hello Virginia, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the Virus?

Awww the hippo is like a baby puppy: sits on laps, needs much care, and sleeps a lot, cute, and small😍😍❤️️❤️️😘😩
$$
That’s really not true. I volunteer at a zoo and we collaborate with the community all the time to help our animals.

@@DC-fo3bn how about instead of criticizing the zookeeper's who did an amazing job saving this PREMATURE baby, you do something to actually benefit animal welfare like attacking the dog meat trade in china
