I have a disagreement on that part about wasting money with locking gas caps, it will deter a few petty criminals from siphoning gas, but like you demonstrated a determined criminal would break in, but I would like someone to at least try and put some effort into stealing from me.
Really, most criminals do that? Bullshit People who are siphoning gas out of cars are like teenage kids who are broke. They're not wandering around with drills. They got a tube and a gas can. There aren't organized criminals who are scoping for the perfect car that they can get underneath and drill a hole into like this is Ocean's 11 or something.
You don't get it. The fill tube is made in such a way these days so you can't siphon fuel. It won't let any hose get down to the fuel. So a locking fuel cap is pointless.
They've been building anti siphons into the fill tubes since the 90's. You literally can't steal gas that way anymore and crooks know that same as the manufactures of those caps. All those gas caps are is a money grab from people who don't know any better and don't care to educate themselves.
When was the last time you heard of gas siphoning on a modern car. Ain't happen with all the baffles in the fill neck. Bigger problem is a eco terrorist pouring something in.
It's about getting the lazy thieves to pick someone else's truck. I've had gas siphoned from my truck several times (hoses stuck in the take a couple times). That's never happened after getting the locking gas cap. They just went onto the next vehicle.
@@anthonyjennings8108stupid they are talking about stealing the gas out of the vehicle not taking the vehicle😂 and no professional thieves don’t do that bc it’s very obvious too the truck owner that there vehcile is getting taken and they would know if they are behind on payments. Or if the car is payed off and someone is towing the vehciles from your property, that’s a good way too get shot tf up.
I worked in a dealer shop for years, I never once had to drill a cap to remove it without the key. A simple lock pick opens them in seconds. We'd get trucks in for a repair that meant having to remove the gas cap all the time, I'd pop the cap off and put back when I was done all the time. (They also made master key sets for locksmiths and mechanics).
I mean, unless you know the car you’re trying to steal fuel from has a locking cap, chances are you aren’t going have have the tools on hand to break the lock 😂.
I had a locking gas cap on my 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Limited once. Had a cool 2 keys and everything. Needed to drive from Sacramento to San Francisco to pick up my sister at the airport. Great day for a 200 mile top down ride! Grabbed my 3rd set of keys (not paying attention) and we were off! Picked her up and then the "low fuel" light came on. The gas cap key? Was home in Sacramento. I asked a technician at the gas station we stopped at if I could borrow his channel locks. He said no, but then offered his gas cap breaking services. Snapped that puppy off in 20 seconds, cleaned it up, the regular gas cap was in the trunk, so just screwed that on after filling up. Been there ever since. That was 15 years ago.
It's called using off-road diesel for the life of the truck 😅. The red stuff's a lot cheaper and with a locking gas cap the cops can't just take the cap off and check
Locks deter petty theft, Locks do not deter those who are willing to go above and beyond. It's not a waste but just know locks are pretty useless in general at stopping access.
A friend worked retail and one day caught the boyfriend of the married manager putting sugar in the employes gas tank. A locking gas cap would have stopped that.
I had a key pix set to come with a two sided key for gas caps. It’s about as quick as your drill. Yes, it does give a fault sense of security to the people that were gullible enough to buy it. Because they cannot siphon through the fill cap because of the anti-siphon device. So they crawl underneath unhooked the hose going to the tank and siphon it that way or they just simply drill holes in the bottom of your fuel tank because after all, they really don’t give a shit what kind of damage to someone else’s vehicle as long as they get the gas
It's definitely not a waste. It protects against vandalism. Although it won't stop someone who is determined to pour sugar in your tank, but it will show them down and a drill will make a lot of noise in the dead of night.
He makes fun of the guys putting a locking gas cap on it, yet he is the one stealing from people, convincing them to spend $70K+ on that truck. Probably have a recall in a week.
It is a super sloppy 3 pin lock that nearly any jiggler will open in seconds. It is just as useless as the locks on the back hatch of a camper shell. Same lock. These should be standard tools laying around any used car lot or junk yard. No skill needed.
Those are 50 50 type scenario good to prevent fuel theft but if I recall newer cars have something near halfway down the filler neck to block hoses. But I know that some of those locking caps can cause EVAP leaks maybe an engine light. When I did emission tests those had a 50 50 chance of passing depending on the age. Heck sometimes we'd just pass it anyway. I'm not going go screw over the driver on a $20 or $30 gas cap. I'd tell them and just send it. The state was more concerned about the ECU, cats, egr and tail pipe emissions more than gas caps 😂
You don't need a drill. Get a pair of channel locks. Turn the cap to be horizontal. Pull up (towards the sky) and then slam the channel locks down (towards the ground) and the locking part will just pop off.
It actually does stop most thieves because they will not work that hard, instead they choose another vehicle that is easier. More importantly IMO is the fact that I will definitely know if someone messed with my tank or not. There are far worse things that someone can do to a vehicle gas tank than simply stealing the fuel
Right because everyone walks around with a drill and screw driver. I'm pretty sure that unless a majority of people started using them that criminals will just avoid people who do use them. It's a deterant.
Power drills and screwdrivers attract a lot more unwanted attention than a siphon and gas can, especially in use. Passersby/witnesses might not take too much notice of a guy with a gas can, but they sure as shit will notice a guy drilling out a gas cap.
Locking gas caps are just so people have to do another step, if you're rolling through a parking lot gas can in a siphon hose, that's going to be enough for you to go to the next cap. It's not meant to stop a criminal mastermind. Keep yourself safe from crime you just have to be less appealing
Fuel filter, but yes, you're correct. I wouldn't want it in my filter. Even though a little won't really cause an issue, I still wouldn't want to get debris in there. A good pair of channel locks and break it apart.
Drilling that diesel cap is not going ti blow up anything. Just be careful on gas cars. I would imagine a larger pair if channel locks will dismantle a plastic locking cap pretty quickly
I have a disagreement on that part about wasting money with locking gas caps, it will deter a few petty criminals from siphoning gas, but like you demonstrated a determined criminal would break in, but I would like someone to at least try and put some effort into stealing from me.
Most criminals just drill out the bottom of the tank, especially on a truck that tall. Most cars have anti siphon rings in the filler neck anyway.

Around here they just stick a screwdriver in the tank, they don't even look at the cap.
The purpose of a locking gas cap is to keep “honest thieves honest.”
There’s no such thing as an honest thief! Come on man.
You're wrong. A locking gas cap keeps the casual thief away from your gas.
Absolutely. We had gas siphoned from our vehicle at a Home Depot. Only inside for 20-30 minutes.
Right? He said it like our vehicles would be the only ones in sight 😂

Just like everything with a key and lock,it's made to only keep honest people honest !
The only thing is that diesel does not explode under fire like that it needs compression to detonate
Or it needs to be atomized
True
The effects were funny. But he’s spreading misinformation. Diesel is extremely hard to light first off but especially to keep it burning too
If you give it enough oily rags and wood it can but I guess technically it’s no longer normal atmospheric pressure at that point.
Most times a flat bladed screwdriver driven in and turned acts like the key. Never given me an issue yet!
Keeps the honest man honest
be nice to him, hes using his last 2 brain cells.
I'm going to the truck parked 3 spaces over that has no locking gas cap.
Who has time for that drill bs.
Apply pressure sideways while turning the cap , has always worked for me
As long as my ex doesnt have a drill and a screwdriver , that bag of sugar wont be in my tank😅

With the last two locking gas caps I had the thieves just cut the filler hose. It’s a lot cheaper and easier to fill the tank than fix the damage.

LPL teaches us that a piece of redbull can will do the trick without the risk of blowing yourself up.
My dad used to get the gas stolen out of his truck on a weekly basis.
Using his logic I shouldn't lock my doors at home. Just as easily access those locks. Lock picking sets. Chip the glass in any window.
Like most Chevy lovers you never checked in the glove box first😅😅
Locks help keep honest people honest!

Locks keep honest people honest. Basically if someone is going to steal your fuel they will bust that cap and steal it or drill a hole in the tank.
Now theives will drill under the tank, instead of siphoning it.
Where’s the civic race ?????
You can usually just stick a flat head screwdriver down the keyhole without drilling

The locking gas cap slowed you down! Ya wana make it hard to the gas thieves move on to the next truck.
It's not about making it impossible for someone to steal fuel, it's about making it harder than the guy who doesn't have a locking gas cap.
It also makes it harder for children to put sand and gravel in the tank.😂😂
it also added 5 minutes to get it done when someone is doing a crime every second counts
I will ALWAYS use a locking fuel cap!!
What are the odds of a pissed off ex girlfriend with a bag of sugar carrying a drill in her pocket.
Thieves now dont even go through the filler. They just drill through the gas tank..
If that is diesel (green cap) it's not going to explode.

A pair of channel lock pliers works best.

They'll come right off if you squeeze the sides with channel locks and turn.
