- The death of Iroh's son Lu Ten and the subsequent events that followed arguably changed the course of the Fire Nation forever. Lu Ten's death sent Iroh into a spiral and led to Ozai and Ursa's poisoning of Firelord Azulon + the near sacrifice of Zuko. But what would the Four Nations look like if none of this ever happened and instead of an insidious Firelord Ozai we got... Firelord Iroh? Here's our take on "What If Iroh Was The Firelord?"!

Unpopular opinion, but if Iroh didn’t go through all the pain he did with Lu-Ten and his father passing away he wouldn’t have become the wise Iroh we love on Avatar. He probably would’ve been more dangerous than Ozai because he was a seasoned general, a skilled tactician, and moreover he was wiser than Ozai, he wouldn’t have sent a child to do a mans job (hunt the avatar).

But, didn't he lie to save the last dragons? And that happened before Zuko was even born. Lu Ten was alive back then and Iroh was still waging war. He was always a wise and kind man.
@Hasnain Karan He was obligated to as the Azulon's first born. Remember the whole "Shameful Weakness" thing. If he didn't fight the war, Azulon would have handed the mantle to Ozai so I guess Iroh didn't have much of a choice.

That was his destiny and Iroh was fully bought in. Sure maybe on a rudimentary level Iroh was kind and wise even before but he still knew his destiny was to be feared. 😬

Let’s say Ozai is sent to find the avatar, I do t think he would go through Zuko’s arc because I see Ozai as even more obsessed with his “honor” than Zuko will ever be. I’m just saying, he would’ve done anything to “capture the avatar.”
Maybe Avatar Studios could do a hypothetical situation like this. It would be cool to see an older more dangerous Zuko. This could leave room for an Azula redemption. Her mother would still be around (not the case for her father). Ursa would give more attention to Azula and Azula could turn out to be something like Katara.

No, he wouldn't. Ozai is an evil, manipulative abuser, so he would likely try to stage a coup or manufacture evidence of Iroh's illegitimacy to the throne just so he can regain power.

@@DroGodina He probably would. He would have had to fight a comet powered Sozen without having mastered the 4 elements nevermind that he wouldn't have learned the seismic sense or lightning redirection because they weren't invented yet. Aang would have a much harder time.
@@marche800 while that is true, he also wouldnt have lost his connection to the Avatar state, and started the fight with a handicap. He also probably would have been taught how to use the Avatar state, as tje Air Nomads knew war was coming, which was the whole reason for the change that caused him to run away. As he had already mastered airbending, its likely he would already be with the waterbenders when the fire nation attacked his people (which could lead to him continuing his training, or chasing after the fire nation right away). Either way, the fight wouldnt go the same because he could glow it up right from the start, and more importantly, may not have had the maturity to spare the fire lord this time, and certainly not the knowhow to take his bending.

Well, during The Search, Iroh became temporary fire lord when Zuko left to find his mother, Iroh declared national tea appreciation day so that kinda counts
Considering he was still fighting as a general while a part of the White Lotus (Piandao and Jeong Jeong left the army pretty quickly without losing a child), I dont think Aang's return would dissuade him.
He might challenge him to a fair fight though. Iroh wins: then the Fire Nation is to rule the world. If Aang Wins, Iroh or Luten withdraws.

Maybe, maybe not. Sozin had the whole retoric of "expanding our progress to the world", while Iroh seemed to have way more of a respect for other cultures. He studies Water Bending and seemed to be knowledgeable of the philosophies of different places, even being part of an Order that went beyond borders. Now, if he was like that before his son was killed, we dont know. He was attempting to conquer Ba Sing Se. But I feel he'd be better than Sozin.
He would be a benevolent conqueror, just like Cyrus the Great of Persia.
you forget the most important thing, if the gaang wasn't being chased by the fire nation (Zuko and Zhao) then Jeong Jeong
would've taught Aang firebending WAY before he mastered waterbending, as they met on the gaang's way to the northern water tribe, meaning Aang would have been much more powerful by the time he mastered water and earth bending.

I like your argument, but all the comments are right. The Avatar has to learn the elements in order just as Wan did. Even Jeong Jeong knew this. So somehow, even if Roku persuaded him, Aang just wouldn’t had done it
Iroh would be the primary or secondary (preferred) antagonist. In that alternate story, it would be interesting for Ozai to instigate a civil war, forcing Fire Lord Iroh to seek help from Aang. Basically a similar arc to Zuko.

Honestly, the idea of Fire Lord Iroh inviting the Avatar for a tense, eerily amiable cup of tea is far more menacing than Ozai's dominating display of power.
His pouring of a cup of ginseng tea for Aang, a favorite of his to share with his greatest enemy, shows a wise and friendly exterior all the more disturbing for knowing what he's capable of.
I like how this channel is not like other RUclips channels about kids shows aren’t as dedicated as this channel.
You mentioned many possibilites but none of this was about Azula. What would change about her? Maybe she wouldn't be the prodigy that she is or she could have banished because of dissrespecting Firelord Iroh since we know that these two are dont like each other.

Wait, didn't Iroh join White Lotus *after* he lost his son? I always assumed that was the case, as (I believe) White Lotus would not accept somebody that... fearsome, powerful and scary, all at the same time? I mean, we only know how Iroh behaved after he lost his son. I'd imagine that his previous personality was much more like Ozai (they did grew up together and to be honest, Zuko and Azula weren't *that* different from each other at the beginning of ATLA - both were power hungry and wanting to prove themselves). Same with meeting the last dragons - I though he did that after joining White Lotus, and that the organizations teachings were the reason he left the dragons in peace.

My question is what would happen to Azula in the third timeline. With Ursa fleeing, Zuko gone, and Ozai banished, do Iroh and Azulon even bother to nurture her talents or even take care her at all?
I think that she would be Iroh's heir and adopted daughter.
With Lu Ten dead and Zuko missing, she'd be Azulon's only remaining grandchild. Iroh probably would have to name her as his heir.

I wonder how the timeline of avatar would change if Iroh found out what truly happened to Azulon and Ursa. I feel Iroh would not only challenge Ozai for the throne but if he won the duel he would immediately try to find Ursa and welcome her back to the capital so she could be with her kids, especially if he had just lost his son like in the original timeline.

6:15 Actually, in the first episode episode sokka banishes aang thinking he was a spy to the fire nation and since zuko never came to attack the southern water tribe so aang never came back to save them, therefore aang wouldn't have sokka and katara with him.

one of the most memorable moments with iroh is when zuko asks him to defeat ozai and iroh doesn't even discount the possibility of beat ozai, but he refuses because the world would only see it as brother killing brother, and no justice would come of it.
