    Hello, I’m a beginner who recently entered the hobby. I have an empty 75 gallon tank that’s never been used and I’ve decided to put some fish in it. After doing lots of internet research, I came across your channel. Most channels I found were very advanced and went into crazy detail on certain subjects. Don’t get me wrong, that’s great. But as a beginner I found it a bit overwhelming. You’re channel has helped me realize that fish keeping doesn’t need to be as difficult as it seems. I don’t have any fish yet, but that will soon change. Thanks a bunch.

      Its an awesome learning experience, no question is ever "stupid", and please know as someone just entering the hobby.....know your water parameters, why you test for them, and how they all fit in together to inform you of whats going on in your aquarium.
      Also know, the most seasoned fish keepers make mistakes. Mistakes are not a bad thing because it makes us better. Also, stay clear from some of the bigger channels where those who run them make it more about them than what's important. The hobby!
      Right now I'm watching progress on my first planted aquarium. I dont mess with it because my parameters have been stable since day 1. One thing I can tell you, plants are the ultimate filters, enabling me to only have to top off. Its locking in all on its own.
      One thing I'd like you to know for sure.
      Make sure you have a KH/GH (carbonate hardness/general hardness) testing kit. I want you to research these 2 very important parameters.....GH is actually a silent killer which over time will make it extremely difficult to impossible to sustain life. Has to do with building minerals over time. You need to find the balance which keeps it lower.....Ill give you a hint.....you mix a very small amount of reverse osmosis water to tap...(RO water all on its own will not sustain life, its dangerous if not used properly, but makes GH totally manageable when you get a feel for it.)
      I wish you luck, this is an awesome hobby which never stops teaching, even those who think they know it all.

    Ive established a few tanks. After major incident with the 125 gallon andbit crashed my cycle. I had no choice but to restart with fish in cycle. Left lights off and it took almost 2 weeks for bloom to disappear. Redosed with prime and stability, once bloom cleared, i got my ammonia reading! Like Kev says, do not water change and let the tank do its thing!

    Thanks for this video. Some of the best advice outhere. I just recently set up my first serious 52 gallon tank, the first time I filled it up, it was pretty ckear, but the next day it looked disgusting. Im guessing its due to the bioload/organic material coming from the potting soil under the gravel cap. I also used stability and ammonium chloride solution which has seem to speed up the cycling process. After 16 days I am starting to notice the water becoming clearer. If anyone experiences this please take this mans advice, be PATIENT and DO NOT do water changes.

    Kev..you explained this very well. I had a bad bacterial bloom awhile back. Being honest..I became frustrated and very impatient because I hate the way bacterial blooms ruin the appearance of my tank. So I did a water change. Worst thing I ever did! Made it worse than it was before water change. So left tank alone even when my OCD kicked in big time.🤣 Took almost a month and finally cleared. I'm looking forward to seeing your video on blackboard algae Kev. I'm starting to see that in my tank as well. Great video Kev! Glad 450 has finally cleared.❤❤😊

    You’re the man! I almost thought those thin little clouds in my tank were filaments of cyanobacteria. I had some before I put in a wave maker and it disappeared. My only problem I have left is the fish waste will accumulate at the bottoms right before my intake. I have an Oase Biomaster but the inlet really doesn’t have enough suction. I might swap over to the Fluval or use both in tandem

I have a 120 gallon aquarium that I put together about a month ago. i don't have plants to this stuff. only rock. i put Seachem Prime as i should and put a small Cichlid fish (10). i gave them twice a day food but not so much (the food didn't even come to the ground!) i gave them lil every time. now, after a month, i'm having a cloudy water (white). like a fool, i did a water change (like 30%) and it's still the same.
    i started to decrees the feding (only 1 time in 2 days). i now know NOT TO DO ANYTING. hopfullly like you showed and said, it'll be back again like it was!

    I had a bacteria bloom on my 5g tank when I first set it up and it was using up the oxygen in the water so the fish were gasping at the surface. I therefore did a 50%water change to increase the oxygen and reduce stress on the fish. I then added an airstone to keep the water aerated and then I added paramecium to feed on the bacteria bloom and next morning the water was crystal clear.

    I have a 10 gal aquarium with 6 neon tetras, been esthablished for months. Then after treating an algue problem (my water wasn't cloudy at this point), I did a water change and my water became cloudy and greenish as hell. I even went to get my water analyzed and nothing was considered wrong with it. I got so frustrated because I kept doing partial water changes and it STILLS wouldn't fix my cloudy green water. I was wrong obviously and didn't know. Thank god I came across this video, I'm officially leaving the tank alone, I'll be patient and hopefully my water will clarify in a few weeks.

    When I first got into this hobby, I experienced a bacteria bloom and really did not know what the heck was happening, I was sure this was bad, I mean really bad. I was confused and I thought this is not normal I cycled the tank like you are supposed to. So, I changed the water (too much) and wasted money on a chemical designed to clear the water and tested the ammonia level daily at first. I admit I thought this was a disaster and my semi-new fish would be dead in a day or two. But it eventually faded away, then years later, when multiple tank syndrome hit me, I once again had another bloom in my new second tank, but this time there was no fish in the tank yet. It really lowered my stress level seeing the foggy tank but knowing it was normal and no fish were in the tank so no big deal I just waited it out.

It's an overstocked 350 running an FX6 & Aquael 2000. Heaps of Seachem Matrix. Is there anything with decor or the substrate that could give these high readings? The water looks crystal clear too. Cheers boss!

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Год назад +1

      Glad to hear you found the course helpful!! 😁 If you have nitrites in the tank you shouldn’t be water changing at all. Leave that nitrite in the tank so your bacteria have a good food source. Dose Prime daily to detoxify the nitrite keeping the water safe. Also dose Stability daily boost bacteria production. When you get 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite then do your water change. You’ll be cycled then 😁💪

    I had similar case going on, and then I was able to get good water parameters Ammonia = 0, Nitrite = 0 and Nitrate building to 80ppm but still a cloudy and greenish.
    Because of the Nitrate I did a 50% water change..
    So, should I keep adding Stability? It feels like Prime is not needed since Ammonia and Nitrite are 0.
    Thoughts?

    Is it possible that adding beneficial bacteria can cause a bloom? I have an established tank that is currently in a bacterial bloom that started within hours of doing a regular water change. The only difference is that I used a different brand of tap safe which included benefical bacteria? I have just got a bottle of prime and stability but I am confused how adding more bacteria will help when that's what started this?

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Год назад +1

      Water won’t evaporate much from this tank. It’s all covered, and sump has an evaporator chamber to prevent that. I’m still testing the tank and keeping watch of nitrate levels. With the new fish in the tank, changes are coming. So it all depends on how rapidly nitrates rise. At minimum though I’ll be doing 1 big water change per month, if not more.

    How long would you wait after starting a fresh tank cycle before doing a water change? I have some rosy red minnows in the tank and im using prime and stability as shown in another video to try to get my cycle going but it’s cloudy from some substrate that seems like it wasn’t washed well enough. I’d like to do some water changes to clear it up but I feel like I should wait so I don’t ruin the cycle. Is there a nitrate level I should wait for so I don’t ruin my cycle or just do a small water change (like 10%) once a day until the cloudiness is gone? Im very new, i just started my first tank about a week ago and just don’t want to set myself back a week (to day 1 lol).

    • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  Год назад

      The number you're looking for is about 40PPM of nitrate...BUT, I wouldn't water change yet. Even though the cloudiness could be caused by the substrate, it could also be caused by bacterial bloom which is totally normal. This video will give you more info on that - ruclips.net/video/46fcHvoellI/видео.html.
      Either way, being patient is your best bet. After you've confirmed your tank has cycled (0 ammonia and 0 nitrite) then you can do water changes to eliminate any cloud caused by the substrate.

      Welcome to this wonderful fish keeping lifestyle!! First thing I can tell you is that your tank needs to cycle. Adding quick start wouldnt have caused the bacterial bloom, many other things could have. If you have green water its an algae issue. Meaning you have too much light or you're over feeding.

      Don't do a thing. Let your filter do its thing and the bacteria grow at its own pace. If you have fish in already you should be dosing with Prime and Stability daily. If you dont, just Stability daily. No water changing, no cleaning, nothing. Make sure you have good surface agitation for oxygen transfer and leave your filter on and running. It will clear up on its own. 😁

      You are correct. But water changing removes ammonia and nitrite from the tank, something beneficial bacteria need during the cycle to grow and establish their colonies. Watch this - ruclips.net/video/9Cuqylaak3E/видео.html

    When going through a bacteria bloom, do you continue to feed your fish as normal, or should I feed less?

      Feed less for sure. There's potential for ammonia spike during blooms and food just increases that.
