If you have infantry in green cover and attackers are pushing with smoke, get your flamer units on the fringe of the smoke to flame the attacking infantry the moment they breach that smoke wall. You can also arty or airstrike the path you expect the attackers to be coming from. I don't see smoking big tanks like king tigers as a viable option as 1. they'll just move away the moment the player realises there's smoke blocking the tank's line of sight. 2. The tank likely won't be alone. You're better off just using the smoke at a much closer range to block the tank's sight of your units making other pushes/movements.

So you mentioned at some point you can use smoke to create a breakthrough against stalemates and such. I do use it for this purpose, but without smoke, I have little to no understanding of how to conduct a successful breakthrough or counter attack. I’ve rarely succeeded without smoke before or without honestly having overwhelming numbers and level 10…any advice on this or another video you have that I’m missing? Or is there any way you could see my replays and tell me the stupid things I’m doing to lose?😂

When i use my mortar to smoke it requites a direct line of sight. Any reason why this would be because it can shoot he rounds just fine on the same location.
I'm new to steel division coming from wargame loving it so far but the one thing that eludes me is how armor penetration and penetration chance works can't seem to find any solid info and help is appreciated.

Use 2 to 3 120 mm mortars, they make much better smoke.
Smoking is harmful. Don't smoke kids ;)
