Ha-haa! You're a ★ star Dan! I so wanted to know about this but didn't know what it was called!!! ( I'm teaching myself - at least am trying to...). :-*
OK, I have now watched the full video.( "A technique you are using quite frequently ..." ??? I thought you've said in the "texture" video, that you DON'T really use shading a lot, as your way of doing textures makes it unnecessary? - I'm only asking, to make sure I'm not getting all wrong ...). Again, your videos are MOST helpful ( I hardly ever give compliments!)
Alexandra Wimmer hey, it all depends on what you are drawing or what you are trying to achieve, when I draw really realistic, I usually focus on texture, for things like still life and more expressive work I focus on shading, tones and value
Useful video. One question. Do you lift the pencil tip off the paper with each stroke or do you keep the pencil tip on the paper and move it to the next location? The reason I ask this is that I am just learning to draw and some instructors state that each stroke should be a discrete line and that one is to avoid making what they call back and forth scribbles.
The hardness part for me is the amount of shading that needs for the amount of light reflected on the surface. Wish you elaborated on which pencil to use proportional the amount of light reflected...For example, by looking on my hand, I can only tell the center of my palm reflects largest amount of light, then finger shadow, and so fore. The hardness part for me is picking out the depths of the shadows
Hi how r u? Great video. Im starting with cartoons / pokemon id like to in future do realistic. Is cartoons a good transition? Ive a movement disorder and bursitis so I know I may not get to do realstic. I tried drawing cartoon people but was too hard even with a compass. Tried for 2 months to get princess jasmin. Hoping drawing most of pokemon will help

HOW DO YOU ADD REALISM IN YOUR DRAWING THE WEIRD TEXTURES YOU DO CAN YOU MAKE A TUTORIAL OF IT
nice video🌹
Sorry if this seems rather stupid but why draw the light shades, why not leave them pure white and then put darker around the white area?
