I Wish you a whole lot of good luck for the future, i really respect your work .The hardwork, decency and perfection of your work doesn't need to be talked about. It can easily be seen. I really really can't wait for you to reach 1 million. Once again It amazes me to see the hardwork and research that is put in your work.

    How I shade:
    1.draw something
    2.find places were light wouldn’t touch(indentations,spaces between objects,etc…)
3.scribble where you want the shading
    4.smear/smooth it with your finger
5.look at your finger that’s covered in graphite and regret all life choices

      I use a tissue :I
Edit: Guys pls give me a break this was 3 years ago LMFAO, fr tho things other than ur finger that help are tissues, q-tips, blending sticks, or don't smudge at all and use techniques like hatching, cross hatching and stippling. Other things that may help for starting out is turning the photo black and white to practice seeing lights and darks! Ur finger works fine as well though, whatever helps u most is best there's not really "rules" to art

I’ve got a learning disorder that has ruined learning anything for me, all my life. I desperately want to learn to draw and paint and have watched literally hundreds of RUclips art tutorials. You and painter Stuart Davies are the only 2 instructors I’ve ever been able to understand. Can’t nail down what’s different; you just have a way of explaining things so I can “see” the instructions in my head.
Thank you so, so much. ❤🙏🏼

People aren't always good at something when they start. If you're having a hard time you can just watch her videos again and study them, maybe take some notes as well.If you feel like drawing is your calling or something like that, then try to put some work into it. The technical terms involve here in this category are: eye-hand coordination, muscle memory, repetition, emphasis, transition, approach, trial and error, rule of thumb, deduction, observation and many more. That is why there is no golden rule in Drawing, you must perseve using your senses and observed, by researching and studying it on your point of view and mindset. Well Science also means "Discourse or study" . 😁 👍 ☕ 🍩 🙂

you just need other tutorials before this one. more fundamental ones.
like holding a pencil, drawing a straight line, drawing a circle.

Thank you so much for this video of highlighting and shading. I have taken some art classes in the past and we allowed for the shadowing and highlighting but I never understood where to place the highlighting. Now I know or understand the light can be directly above, not only on the left or right side. Please do more videos like this as they are so very helpful. Thank you.

Wow, in 6 minutes you made shading less of a guessing game, and I'm not really a beginner. I have very little natural talent for art, I'm an engineering student. I find art frustrating and difficult. I struggle with art the same way a lot of people struggle with math. I love art, but like I said, I find it very hard. I *seriously* appreciate little tips that go a long way like...well the ones this video is completely packed with.

Thank you. Finally a video that actually explains shading. I got fed up with looking at clips that had shading in the title but only dealt with blending. Then I found this clip and in simple terms you explained the basics of how light works and how it creates the places on an object where light and dark are, and how to use that info to bring life to a drawing.
Now if I could only find a clip that explains simply how to draw the creases and folds in material. When I try to draw them it ends up looking like a 3 year old held the pen in its mouth and went to town on the picture.
    Again, thank you.
