After many years of thinking I couldn’t draw I finally picked up a pencil and tried, with your first three videos I am amazed at what I can achieve, it may be small but from someone who couldn’t even draw a decent stick man to manage circle with a shadow and a bit of shading is a small miracle and for it to look quite realistic is nothing but a revelation to me, I feel for the first time there is hope for me yet…. Thank you 😊
That's the good side of internet. 10 years have passed yet your series is helping me paint my imagination on paper ❤ That's the one and only true beginner drawing course I've come across on internet ♡
Man, I like how chill you are in your videos. I’m hoping watching these can help me stay motivated to draw because right now, it’s hard for me. Every now and then, I’ll sit down for hours and just draw a single drawing. The last one was a drawing of Goku, and it took me about 8hrs. Every drawing I start strong. I sketch it out going off a reference photo and I love it. It looks pretty good. I ink it and then I color it and it comes out looking nothing like what I thought it would. Now, I’ll try drawing simple stuff that pops up in my head and I can’t even do that. If anything, it feels like my skills are regressing. I get so demotivated and put my pencil down for long periods of time and refuse to pick it back up because I know anything I draw won’t even be close to what I want. I know I can do it. I can see it in my head and I know exactly what to do but when it comes to making my pencil do it, I can’t. It’s been almost two years since I’ve drawn and it makes me sad. I just want to be good but I can’t get over my own fear of failure. I’ve been planning out this manga story I want to do since I was 18. This story is my dream and I know it will do well if I can just get it out there but I can’t do that unless I get good enough to draw for it. Part of me feels like my dream will just die and I’ll never get good enough no matter how hard I try. I’m sorry, I know this is a long tangent that goes in like 50 different directions and nobody will probably even read it but I have nobody to talk to about it. My only friend that draws is a “professional artist” who does digital design and makes drawings for commission and basically just brags about how good his art is and how it’s better than mine. It’s 5am, I’m exhausted but I can’t sleep because my brain just decided to let me sit and think about how I’ll probably never succeed so that’s fun. Anyways, I’ll shut up now. Thank you for the video, once again. You’re being very generous with your time teaching this skill to others. I hope they can pick it up easier than I can and I hope you succeed in all your endeavors.
Thank you so much for these! I really appreciate that the focus is to get out there and try everything and find what you like best. I've already noticed an improvement in my sketching
you know that these videos are so informative, although being boring.... however, my teacher is now much impressed with my sketches than before! thank you!

+SchaeferArt Do you believe in talent? Do you believe that if somebody is "talented" and they never draw whenever they decide to pick up a pencil is gonna be easier than someone who does it everyday?Who would end up better? I really wanna get into digital concept art but I don't see myself drawing those backgrounds, but ill keep trying none theless
+winterhell2002 nah, being good at something is all about the structure of parts of your brain, if your brain is already closer to the ideal structure for a skill, then you have a 'talent'. So from the start, people can be better. However, just about everyone can do it, it just takes more work for some people. Unfortunately, I'm one of those people.
+Chris McQueen Finally someone reasonable about "talent" and how skill learning works. Hard to find. However I don't see it as like someone brain structure is better for a skill in general. In some point, different people will realize different things more easier. A few will learn (or realize by itself) shading concepts more easier while others gesture, color, composition, environment, human drawing, etc. It's not a matter of having "talent" but of which 10% of a skill will come naturally to you.
Just relax and don't over think it. Remember what he said on the first video, don't fall into having a perfectionist attitude when drawing. Don't give up.
This set of videos has made me pull out paper and pencil after 25 years… I always wanted to learn how to sketch and this is the nicest way to start to learn… Thank you for this set of videos, I wanted something like this for a long time…

thanks for teaching me how to draw sir because when I wanted to draw my drawings didn't look good thats why i didn't like drawing but this is the best drawing tutorial series i've seen and now my drawings have been improved. Thanks for Teaching me
This videos are so wonderfully informative. As much as skill requires practice, I've already fixed a ton of techincal mistakes in my own method from this series, and it's starting to show. Wonderful tutorials!
Again, thanks Brandon for this series of tutorials for the beginner....I'm having a blast and learning so much from you. You are an awesome teacher and I'm completely understanding what you mean, which is usually challenging for me. Three tutorials from you and I'm drawing better than I ever have before and, having fun! Cheers
i've never been good at drawing but i took up an art class and some intrest but i was so bad and needed to get better and these videos have helped a lot
Thanks for this. Am trying to get back into my drawing...it’s been decades and I quit in 8th grade...so I’m trying to go back and re-learn the basics. This really helps!
Just wow. I know this is a old post, but it's very helpful. I've never been artsy. The way you break things down has really is great. Thank you so much. Only drawing I ever did that was halfway decent was when I was in a Junior High art class. My mom framed it and kept it hanging on her wall for 37 years until she passed. A flood a couple years ago destroyed that drawing. Don't know why I picked up a sketch book at the hobby store, but thank to your videos, I'm now drawing. 😊
Hey! I just want to say thank you for these tutorials, these may be old but its helping a lot, Im 17 and I can only draw stickman or something worst, but I met this girl and she inspired me to draw more and this video helped me get started. Earned another life long subscriber!
i started drawing realism by following this series arround 4 years ago. I cant stress enough how much it impacted my art. Came across this video and just had to comment to say THANK YOU
@@SchaeferArt I also got into drawing few days ago, and you are truly like a personal teacher. I am a young engineer, as I have become more interested in product design engineering, I really needed tutorials like this. Please make some for design engineers perspective specifically if possible. Thank you :)
Well the base is simple shapes, such as the head, (a circle), the body (rectangles and everything) and a bit of squiggles for scenery. Then the actual painting is the hard part.
thank you man i used to love drawing very much but in school they never taught us for real how to draw and i never learned how to do it for real but i really loved drawing and i tried and tried then gave and now i started again from fresh and thanks to your videos my art skills are better than they ever were
You are the best , I always was bad at drawing so I didn't have the confidence to begin, but now I actually am learning and actually getting it.. You explained every detail briefly.. Thank you
I am not an artist, but I really love to learn to draw. Yout videos really inspire me. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge. This is so helpful!
I used to think I couldn't draw cause I would get nervous and my hands would shake and mess up the drawing but now I have finally started to loosen up and all these tutorials from you help a lot...Thanks!
Thanks Schaefer. I haven't sketched since I was in high school, which was 15 years ago. I decided that Nursing was too hard on my family and me so now I'm training to be a Computer Science major with a minor in Web and Graphic Design, so it's nice to have somewhere to refresh my art training before I take college level art courses. I really appreciate it. :)
The unrestricted way of teaching really help allow me to teach myself to find my way of drawing. I've been putting off learning to draw and this really pushed me since I actually see myself progress. Thanks
I know that this is a pretty small detail. But one thing that I love about the artist is that he says something like: ''Let's draw a sphere, it could be anything you want.'' Instead of: ''So now we're gonna draw a sphere.'' You see what I mean? The way this artist talks gives me (and/or other people) more ''freedom'' in drawing. I've noticed that Bob Ross also does that way of talking when painting.
I do appreciate what you did in this video. It helped me a lot to understand light and dark in shading. I'm a literal newbie in drawing. I thought before that I'd never be able to understand highlights and shadows, but seeing you do it in a very simply way, I got to gain hope. I'm not quitting!! Thank you so much!!!!!! I love your videos!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I am learning from you. Have always been into shading but never found right guidance. U r are my guru now on else. Thank you for the creating this account.
I've got a fair amount of knowledge on drawing, since I was interested and drew alot when I was younger. Sorta stopped when I'm in high school, lost the touch. Now I'm back at it in university and pursuing my dream in designing. Don't give up on ur dreams guys💪💪 Btw thx for these videos. They really helped me get back on track!
I just wanted to tell you that I've had my very first success in sketching after I watched your first video. I've been wanting to be able to draw all my life but never had any successes. Thank you so very much.
Thanks for making these, picked up a gel pen and paper after watching and discovered I was OK at the basics so picked up a pad and set of pencils today. I look forward to seeing where it takes me.
Hi Brandon and peace be with you! Thank you for these videos. I wanted to learn a skill during covid and decided to go with drawing. Your videos have helped and inspired me tremendously. Wishing you all the best and a happy, healthy and safe 2022. Thank you again.
Thanks for your videos. Since the Covid-lockdown, I decided to try drawing. I'm taking a class. What you teach reinforces what I learned in class. New terms in my vocabulary - values, cross-hatching, =) Thanks!
Me before these videos: Look at this great self-portrait I painted! (points to lousy garbled painting) Me after seeing these first 3 videos: Look at the great ball I drew with shading and shadows! (awesome job!) Planning to spend a lot of time with pencils sketching shapes I now see in everything in the house.

Ohhh mannn, I really do appreciate these videos 😍 and the non perfectionist attitude towards drawing helps loads 💕
You're welcome
Im Preparing for an architectural course entrance exam and this has helped me so much with my drawing. Im more confident now and done shading first time ever. thankyou sooo much for your videos,May God Bless You :)
thanks for teaching me how to draw sir because when I wanted to draw my drawings didn't look good thats why i didn't like drawing but this is the best drawing tutorial series i've seen and now my drawings have been improved. Thanks for Teaching me
I brought my kit and I am truly enjoying following your videos!!! Thank you for you work!!!!!!!
Cheers
+Nancy Lynn Sounds great! Good to hear, have fun with it :)
i've never been good at drawing but i took up an art class and some intrest but i was so bad and needed to get better and these videos have helped a lot
Thanks for this. Am trying to get back into my drawing...it’s been decades and I quit in 8th grade...so I’m trying to go back and re-learn the basics. This really helps!
i just sketched a cocktail glass hahaha i'm proud of what i've done. thank youuuuu! you're awesome :)
Wow! I'm finally learning to draw. Thanks so much. May you continue uploading your drawing videos!
7 years later, still drawing?
Came across this video and just had to comment to say THANK YOU
Wow that's awesome, really glad to hear that and thanks for the comment. Hope the drawing and art is going well :) Take care!
@@SchaeferArt I also got into drawing few days ago, and you are truly like a personal teacher. I am a young engineer, as I have become more interested in product design engineering, I really needed tutorials like this. Please make some for design engineers perspective specifically if possible. Thank you :)
I’m learning so much, eating all your instructions like I’m hungry for it! Thank you again for your patience and teaching Sir.
Everything is just simple shapes...
**Draws Mona Lisa**
See, simple shapes
But Mona Lisa is simple shapes. It's just a huge amount of simple shapes.
Well the base is simple shapes, such as the head, (a circle), the body (rectangles and everything) and a bit of squiggles for scenery. Then the actual painting is the hard part.
🤣
Just beautiful sir.. U speak so simply and things get easy to understand.. I m learning through your videos
Glad to hear that
thank you man i used to love drawing very much but in school they never taught us for real how to draw and i never learned how to do it for real but i really loved drawing and i tried and tried then gave and now i started again from fresh and thanks to your videos my art skills are better than they ever were
I just love you mate... You did so much detailing in art and made my art the best... I literally made a whole scenery like literally 4K
you desserve at least 1 to 5 mill at this point at the good videos u do
You are the best , I always was bad at drawing so I didn't have the confidence to begin, but now I actually am learning and actually getting it.. You explained every detail briefly.. Thank you
You can do it!
You're a humble guy. Thanks for these videos
I am not an artist, but I really love to learn to draw. Yout videos really inspire me. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge. This is so helpful!
"Most things aren't ever completely white..."... that's true on a practical as well as on a philosophical level!!!!
I used to think I couldn't draw cause I would get nervous and my hands would shake and mess up the drawing but now I have finally started to loosen up and all these tutorials from you help a lot...Thanks!
I absolutely suck at shading. I can do absolutely anything, except shade. Hopefully your tips can help! Good video(:
Lucky I can't draw or shade XD
Thanks Schaefer. I haven't sketched since I was in high school, which was 15 years ago. I decided that Nursing was too hard on my family and me so now I'm training to be a Computer Science major with a minor in Web and Graphic Design, so it's nice to have somewhere to refresh my art training before I take college level art courses. I really appreciate it. :)
The unrestricted way of teaching really help allow me to teach myself to find my way of drawing. I've been putting off learning to draw and this really pushed me since I actually see myself progress. Thanks
Great to hear!
Thank you for making these videos. We can still learn from them years after you posted them.
Thank you so much for these videos! I'm trying to recover years that I lost because I stopped drawing. It's like starting from scratch.
Ana Luiza me too. hope we can still keep up. mine is after 30 yrs. LOL
Very patient and modest artist with great attitude. Thank you for the great series, I appreciate!
By this video i am totally sold......i have gone out and ordered some art supplies here i go to art school.
The dots are a living hell, and if they’re not done right sometimes they end up adding nothing to your picture and then you end up wasting your time.
Well said haha
I do appreciate what you did in this video. It helped me a lot to understand light and dark in shading. I'm a literal newbie in drawing. I thought before that I'd never be able to understand highlights and shadows, but seeing you do it in a very simply way, I got to gain hope. I'm not quitting!! Thank you so much!!!!!! I love your videos!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you for producing and making these videos available!
I am learning from you. Have always been into shading but never found right guidance. U r are my guru now on else. Thank you for the creating this account.
2018 and your really helping with my art, dude you rock.
Sounds awesome 😎
After watching so many tutorials, gotta say that this is the best one so far, thank you...
Happy to hear that!
Thank you!! You're BETTER than my art teacher!
My Art Teacher Watcher This And He Is Bad At Art Somehow xD
I subscribe because these videos helped me a lot and 2021 just started and I’m improving!
"rub it out" "some people use a tissue"
woah. good thing nobody else heard that.
Lmao, are you thinking what i'm thinking?
+XD
Ausar0 ohno
He's just trying to help 😒
Hahahaha
I've got a fair amount of knowledge on drawing, since I was interested and drew alot when I was younger. Sorta stopped when I'm in high school, lost the touch. Now I'm back at it in university and pursuing my dream in designing. Don't give up on ur dreams guys💪💪 Btw thx for these videos. They really helped me get back on track!
Excellent video! And you really seem as such a nice guy!
I just wanted to tell you that I've had my very first success in sketching after I watched your first video. I've been wanting to be able to draw all my life but never had any successes. Thank you so very much.
That is awesome!
Thank you so much for tips I am downing way better at drawing I'll try and try you opened my drawing mind thank you so much 🙂👍🏻
These videos are amazing! I was nervous to start drawing again after a few years. These are bringing back everything like it was yesterday
I'm so glad!
I like how I don’t actually draw it but just watch for entertainment
I dig it! Thanks for watching.
maby while watching you can draw the stuff to.
Thanks for making these, picked up a gel pen and paper after watching and discovered I was OK at the basics so picked up a pad and set of pencils today. I look forward to seeing where it takes me.
"when I was younger I would rub it out... Some would use a tissue" please tell me I'm not the only one that heard it 🤣
Don't forget to rub it in as well...
XD
Hi Brandon and peace be with you! Thank you for these videos. I wanted to learn a skill during covid and decided to go with drawing. Your videos have helped and inspired me tremendously. Wishing you all the best and a happy, healthy and safe 2022. Thank you again.
The thing i learned in these 3 lessons I learn to draw cicle😂😂😂
Better than nothing 😊
@@SchaeferArt Thanks for answering, its really made me happy
Hooo
@@sviestassviestuotas5081 now you love your life
Thanks for your videos. Since the Covid-lockdown, I decided to try drawing. I'm taking a class. What you teach reinforces what I learned in class. New terms in my vocabulary - values, cross-hatching, =) Thanks!
Me before these videos: Look at this great self-portrait I painted! (points to lousy garbled painting)
Me after seeing these first 3 videos: Look at the great ball I drew with shading and shadows! (awesome job!)
Planning to spend a lot of time with pencils sketching shapes I now see in everything in the house.
How is drawing going now
@@akitoe5600 Great question; you prompted me to open my art box and get busy again! The long winter has led to a lapse in my drawing and painting. Time to get busy again!
@@barbarasylvain5060 nice I hope you keep on practicing and improving and most importantly have some fun
This is really good. My 11 year old kid is using these tutorials to help his skills
When he moves the paper I feel like I'm watching a sample through microscope
Lol yes so much
Like a specimen somewhat, right? #Relatable
Lol😂
Thanks for the essentials for the shading techniques , this has been highly significant to my draws and I plan to keep watching your videos.
Each video: **has less and less views**
Me: 👁👄👁 **sips tea** _let's just hope I'm not next_
*Same. Same with blender tutorial of blender guru.
Dude i love your hands, your hands are the most beautiful natural painting ive ever seen :)
