do you need NEW BUTTONS?【Arcade Stick Mod】

- Do you need these Sanwa Denshi Japanese arcade buttons on your game controller? These parts are so famous for that authentic arcade feel that they're even used as MIDI controllers!
Would you perform a mod like this on your fight stick?
1:25 Sanwa buttons have been used in about 85% of arcade cabinets in Japan since around 1993. For the first 3 years they were mostly paired with the Seimitsu LS-32 joystick and after about 1996 pretty much every cabinet (except many SNK cabinets) has had the Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons + Sanwa JLF stick.
That doesn't mean they are better than Seimitsu LS-32 + Seimitsu PS-14-GN but that Sanwas were what the arcades were looking for. Simple, suitable for every kind of game and fast to replace (everything but pivot replacement/pivot re-greasing could be done without tools)
Dude I hope you dont drop combos like you drop your hardware
I know, why is he so clumsy? He treats his stuff like hes got daddy's credit card lol
Geoff Murphy he’s his own daddy
Oof
@@kryos0627 Dude, do you have any idea how much the fight sticks he has cost? He probably has a good chunk of change, those sticks aren't cheap. I just bought a qanba drone on sale for 80 dollars and a sanwa kit for 50 dollars, and then 7 dollars for the 5pc wire.
Btw the buttons on the Hori sticks are Hayabusa Buttons, they stopped using the Kuro buttons when the Hrap V came out, you can tell the difference because the hayabusa buttons have the textured feel to them and the Kuro buttons don't.
lol oops my bad. Thanks for letting me know :)
Personally when I play fighting games I tend to play around 3-4 hours and Hayabusa is less straining on my fingers.
I dunno man. The glossy buttons are actually grippier making double/triple taps harder. Thought I'd like Sanwas better but the Hayabusa's have grown on me. Good job Hori.
I made this video very early in my arcade stick journey. Although I still stand by lots of what I said in this video, my opinions on the various button manufacturers and their respective feels have changed gradually video by video :)
well... now i know that i can change the button by myself.
this video was really helpfull.
thanks!
Same, always heared that Hori RAP arcade sticks weren't very mod-friendly, but it doesn't seem to be THAT HARD to mode either.
3:45 Sayonara Warranty, we hardly knew ye.
Jikyuu I
Warranty-chan was a tsundere. Nobody'll miss her, nyan~~
Hayabusa buttons are just as good as sanwa buttons, the hayabusa, feels nicer to me because of the smoother feeling
they feel cheap and plasticky no way
What you find is that as well as being glossy, the sanwa have to be hit more square in the middle. The hayabusa buttons can be hit on the edge
I love my hori hayabusa fighting edge. But I want to try some Sanwa buttons and joysticks.
What you need for the smooth buttons is special Sanwa Sandpaper.
"this is how you install a button" *smack* NOOOOOO LMFAO 😂😂😂
Loved the puns and that ending. Keep it up man.
Those hori buttons are actually "hayabusa" same branding as the stick/lever itself.. the "kuro" buttons are actually glossy, the hayabusa buttons are better than the old kuro coz they dont get stuck and have a lower profile. its nearly similar to sanwa only matte. I dont really like the sanwa much coz they are too sensitive(if you rest your fingers lightly on them they actuate), I preffer seimitsu buttons overall but id take the hayabusa over sanwa otherwise.
thanks for the info!
I have the matte buttons on my HRAPV and some of the buttons do get stuck sometimes. Never had that issue w/ my previous stick w/ Sanwa buttons (Qanba Q4 RAF)
yeah sanwas are superrrrr sensitive some ppl actually prefer hawyabusa buttons over sanwas cuz if you move the fight stick slightly it actuates a button XD
What's your opinion on stick? Which band do you prefer?
IL or Happ/suzo Buttons with cherry .75g switches feel so much better than any of the Japanese buttons. This is what you are looking for if you like the heavy click of classic american arcade buttons.
the sanwa buttons have such a sweet and satisfying feel on depression I replaced my hori rap4 and qanba carbon stick buttons and my madcatz tes+ buttons which were sanwa to begin with but were getting along in age
For your next mod, try the kowal octopus gate. After that put a heavier spring in with a over sized actuator. It makes a difference.
Hayabusa Buttons and sticks are now being used in arcades. It's crazy. A decade ago I would've told you Hori buttons and sticks needed to get swapped out ASAP. Now I'm just casually rocking RAPs with Hori parts like it's nothing.
For the start button just use hotglue to hold it in place. It will stop it from spinning but if you ever need to replace it you can easily remove the glue. Also, love your stuff!
If anybody is looking for a decently heavy, but not as big as a full one, arcade stick, the Mayflash F300 is very solid for $60. It also comes with glossy buttons from factory.
The stick on your switch also has hayabusa buttons since they're matte, kuro buttons are glossy
I can’t believe you’re so OCD that you changed the buttons . But hey , if you notice the difference and it’s a favorable change. I still remember the glossy buttons from the arcades I played back in 1990, and can tell the stick’s are different...
Having seen your mod, I’d feel safe making the kids myself if I needed it. ( I’m still ok the fence about getting the stick at all).
Thanks!
I just want to thank you for taking the time and redo the focus and exposure of your camera every time those get off!
Looking into arcade sticks for playing Tekken I've only encountered reviewers and DIY'ers that show parts into the camera's lens without regard for the camera's focus so all I'm really seeing is a black blur instead of an electronic part or a manual >.<
Really, honestly, thank you for minding your viewers in regard with the camera! (or should I say ありがとうございます?)
I like Sanwas during the Street Fighter 4 era for plinking. But the matte Kuro buttons feel real good.
Thats one of the coolest art ive seen on one so far
My first stick was a hori rap 4 my second was a mad cats tes+ and I felt like the Sanwa buttons were infinitely better as well as the stick
Good to see they still have "mail order" in Japan lol :)
Dude.. I laughed so hard man. When I modded my hori rap4 kai with sanwa buttons I also dropped them on the floor before I installed them lol.
The black matte buttons are called Hayabusa buttons and their considered very good.
The buttons you replaced are Kuro buttons, they kind of feel like crud.
Sanwa is arcade standard, but personally I prefer the Hayabusa buttons. They have a lower profile which feels better to me.
PRO TIP! Remap the end buttons that you don't use to vskill and vtrigger.. not only is it now easier for you to execute those functions with one button, but you can now of course double tap vskill/vtrigger. try double tapping vskill or vtrigger without remapping them keys.. HA! these useless buttons have become indispensable now (as my brain doesnt know how to vtrigger with HP+HK anymore. ) but the take away lesson is use every tool that is afforded to you
Dude, could you make a video replacing your joystick? I want to see how to do it from a stick connoisseur as yourself. Great vieeo btw 👌
That looks easy. Funny I bought my Fighting Edge from Arcade shock and got the Sanwa buttons and lever but now I wanna try out the Kuro buttons.
I grew up playing with Sanwa parts in my local arcades in the Middle East. Ever since then when I bought a fightstick, Id usually replace the buttons with Sanwa parts. However the only fightstick i've never replaced the buttons was the Hori RAP V3-SA for the PS3 reason was because the default Sanwa parts was actually not bad, in fact, it was actually pretty great!
Parts in a fightstick kinda affects the gameplay in fighting games, of course if your just casually playing fighting games or shmups on the stick then it doesn't matter but if your a competitive figther (like me) you'd likely wanna swap the buttons (depending on what stick was bought). It doesn't matter much but it does if your into good controls for a competitive play. During my trip in America, I found a Street Fighter Alpha 2 cabinet, it had a bat-top stick which didn't affect me as i've used both of the types, ball and bat. But what do turned me down and my play was the buttons and the stick. I may have said the stick didn't affect me BUT the parts of the whole thing did mess me up a bit lol. The the square gate isn't a even the problem (I use that gate but I do most on an Octagonal gate), the real problem was the parts, they were so old and also barely responsive, the buttons felt a bit mushy. Its playable but the parts isn't my type (still I was able to pull Alpha 2 combos with no minor stops). Parts in a fightstick affects your gameplay unless your using it for casual use.
what you experienced are american Happ parts, which are inferior in almost every way to japanese sanwa and hayabusa parts. I swear the only reason people buy those anymore is for nostalgia purposes.. they are absolutely the worst.
Is that Reimu Hakurei?
Yep. They made a Marisa version, too.
do those versions also work with the switch?
JetteX7 they should work with an adapter on Amazon
Props for leaving the mishap in
Haha punching in the buttons is exactly what I did when I built my stick xD
What was the problem with the smaller button? Do you think it's better to get screw buttons for this stick?
Whenever I lose a game, I blame my buttons and buy new ones.
Lmao! How much buttons do you have by now?
"I hope I haven't broken them by dropping them"
Starts HAMMERFISTING the buttons to get them in proper.
I was so curious about the sanwa buttons. Thank you.
i really respect u n all people who use arcade button coz u guys use it so easily. as for me i am nub coz i plyed tekken on a ps4 controller nvr know how to use arcade controller
You're my favorite fg gear reviewer
love the Sanwa, only buttons I use. tried both and I prefer the feel and sound of Sanwa, it's a much deeper click whereas the hori ones are a little too shallow.
sanwa is the top tier in buttons c:
Hori is actually the partner of Taito for the Vewlix arcade cabinets for a few years now. Also because of that, Hori produced the Hori RAP Vewlix which simulate the size of the arcade cabinet. I've used Sanwa when I modded my HRAP3 from 2010, but recently bought a Hori RAP.N and prefer the Hayabusa stick and buttons. I just like the travel of the Hayabusa stick over Sanwa and the buttons have lesser actuation because the'yre shorter.
dude started doing paradiddles in the beginning
I just got a Hori RAP 5 for PS4 and I actually love the buttons lol they’re not as annoying of a sound. They’re smooth and less springy took a little to get used to because sometimes you get used to those audio cues. I do enjoy having something different though it’s my 2nd hori
Nice paradiddle!
dropping stuff is a sign he will go far on youtube. also 9:00 lol
Those are the hayabusa buttons, the Kuro ones are shiny and they’re bigger. And they suck
You should get a matching balltop :)
That Reimu cover ❤❤❤
Official Taito Viewlix arcade cabinets use Hori Hayabusa parts. "Actual Arcade™" does not automatically equal Sanwa. Hori and Seimitsu parts can be on par and even superior in some regards.
im planning on modding my stick! the buttons are kinda broken, so im changing some of them! I have the RAP4, and im hoping i can get a brand new face plate as well as some new buttons!
Mail Order... Wow. I haven't heard that in a while. LOL
The button changed definitely seem better.
It's a bit cornering they came bent. Hopefully they last. If it doesn't well then you have video evidence to show them if you need to get them replaced.
xxnike629xx them being bent isn't going to affect the button life at all, and if they snap it's incredibly easy to just solder the wire onto the snapped part.
@Norwegian Reaper
Maybe.
But would you be happy with getting damaged goods?
Like mailmans care a shit about wht's inside the mail they deliver, they only carry your mail to ur house and thats it. If its to blame anyone for delivery damaged during carry, then its falls on the sender/vender because he/she didn't care enough to send them well packed and protected to avoid "transport damage" in the 1st place.

-NihongoGamrer used pound
-That looked like it hurt!
びんびんごはんケーキー SUPER EFFECTIVE
am i the only one who bopped my head at the sick beat he dropped at the beginning
To be honest i was expecting the down under song to appear at the first 2 seconds of the video
lmao i caught that paradiddle in the intro
Kuro buttons are great, the Hayabusa stick is just Ok tho. i would just change the stick.
That's not how you install a button, I don't remember why but you should press them in by holding the outside part and not the actual button.
Thank you for this video. Very very very helpful. I was in the fence about buying the Hayabusa for Switch. I think I’ll get it and if I don’t like it, I can replace the parts with ease it seems. :)
I cried a little when the blue buttons weren't put in the switch hori
NeoGeo cabs here where all Seimitsu and when you want the best button, you need the best switch in it.
maybe just leave the option button original hori red, since the original one doesn't spin. that way you won't have to glue anything. plus I think it'd look kinda cool with the option button blending in and the main buttons standing out.. but if you do stay with the blue one, use some hot glue or epoxy instead of super glue.
Sir Charles This was my idea as well.
I love Sanwa but I've heard that Hori is great and Seimitsu seems to be preferred over Sanwa. It's always satisfying to play on a stick, too.
Kuro, hayabusa and sanwa buttons sound a little similar when pressed and plinked just by listening to the sounds.
Thank you for the help.
If I were you id buy a cheap stick like a Mayflash to toy around with modding
Need to make the stick blue too for continuity!
i just swapped out the old sanwas in the TE i just got for seimitsus, Hoping they are a bit les sensitive.
Great work. From Algeria.
Did it work with Windows 7?
hey there nihongogamer great video as usual! one question though does the shop you bought those buttons have an online shop?
I'm just a Sanwa guy, and I will use nothing but Sanwas until I die.
I love your vids
I had to get rid of the hayabusa buttons, the busa joystick is nice but my buttons were a sticky mess I hated them.
Google said that my stick buttons size is 30mm buy when I bought the sanwa buttons i noticed that its bigger any solution or i messed up
30mm sounds right to me if you're using a Hori RAP stick
only the Options button is smaller at 24mm
@@NihongoGamer nvm i got it,just needed to use a punch xD
Ea needs to make a arcade mode for nba but have it play like nba showtime where you can catch fire so I can buy a nba game and use my arcade stick.
Is that arcade stick universal? Because i need a universal one and im loving that form factor
thanks for this video, i finally mod my hori rap 4, was super easy and fun, i was a little scared, but after this video i been more confident and i did it, also mod mi qanba drone.
Your sticks are using Hori's Hayabusa buttons (matte). I had a sanwa stick and personally like the Hayabusas better. They are more responsive and less straining on your fingers after hours of play.
Recently bought the new Hori RAP N and it's nicest stick I've ever owned. Feels very premium and use it for playing SFV every day.
+ELICK111
I've been using the sanwas for a few weeks now and yeah, the hard stop causes more strain on the fingers. Do you not find the angle for ur right arm has to come in too close for the Noir button layout?
NihongoGamer The Noir button layout feels more comfortable IMO. The Hori RAP N is longer than the RAP 4 and has more room for you to rest your forearms. With more area to rest your right arm on, the angle feels better.
Love your's video quality. What's camera do you use to record?
I own a full sanwa too, but it's too hard to me to use. I'm still using my dualshock 4 for majority fighting games
Cheers from Brazil
Kenzo o que tá fazendo aqui mano? Kkkkkk
Nice, where did you get that Reimu stick? At least you are using Sanwa, but I feel Seimitsu is better for STGs in general.
i dont like the lack of grip on the buttons that come with the Hori sticks, i have the Tekken 7 edition stick and i dont really like the buttons, im gonna put in an order for some new ones soon. i bought a new glass and art for it as well as a new balltop. the Octagonal gate is next
Hi Nice video
Where I can find in internet this arcade stick ?
Thanks
You have butterfingers too?!
trust me, you can bend them ALOT more than you think...dont ask how i know
But why blue? For the colors on the stick something in red or black would look more fitting.
I mean the blue is not bad, but black would fit great to the mostly red artwork.
You should have gotten the red ones so they'll match your stick
Or black, for some more contrast.
I saw buttons with leds in theme but cant find that site any more
Satisfying click!
i went with what I grew up with il-euro buttons with cherrys
i prefer hori hayabusa buttons for response control due to its low profile vs the sanwa type is much more of a classic arcade feel and some finger oil glossy touch
but but but!! if your opponent during tournaments were master of being a BUTTON LISTENER...
I WOULD RECOMEND THE HORI SILENT BUTTON TYPE INSTEAD.
I thought Taito had a partnership with Hori to use Hori Hayabusa buttons and levers on Taito Vewlix arcade cabs.
They did.
The Hori lever and buttons were created to arcade spec.
They're way better than what Hori used to produce for OEM that wasn't Sanwa-supplied.
I don't particularly like the Hori buttons; I actually switched them out for the standard Sanwa buttons.
Do you know where i can find a convienient size panel like that for happ style buttons?
Hello, do y ou know if this arcade stick (HORI RAP V Hayabusa Fight Stick for Nintendo Switch ) is compatible with Mini Snes and Mini Nes? Thanks in advance
++NG++ So, a long time ago, back when the switch came out, I think I asked you if your joystick top rotated or not. You seems rather confused, as I recall, but I’ve been thinking about it every once in a while since then and I have come up with a reason why it worried me-I grew up playing with bat tops not ball tops. While I had played some street fighter in the arcades, I mostly played Soul Calibur and MK (fill in the blank number here.) And in Alaska, at my local arcade, I think that they did a hardware swap on almost all of their machines for bat tops. My theory is that because they didn’t move as much, the owners thought that they might not break as often, but who knows. Anyway, I think that the reason why the change stood out to me so much is that a lot of the sticks and toppers seemed to be the wrong color for the cabinets. Yeah they would match, player one with player two, but they didn’t match the arcade cabinet itself, most of the time. Anyway, after seeing your video today I am now very curious about opening up my RAP V stick and gutting it for parts to make a custom box that would use mechanical key switches from a keyboard, instead. Let me know if you’re interested in seeing the results.
Feel free to post it on the discord :)
Fun video. question for you(or anyone really), could you tell me the height of the hrap4(the red one). Im trying to compare it to my quanba drone to see if i should upgrade. I have a madcatz guilty gear ps4 stick but i prefer the low profile of the drone it just lacks size. Wanted to see if the hori was of similar height, from base to surface, to the drone. Thx
I just got a Mayflash F500, should I change the stock buttons for Sanwas?
Good news everyone MADCATZ recently resurrected from the Dead. They make good arcade sticks.
