  • Welcome back to Wayward Stories!
This week we’re going to talk about a very recent rescue our team effected in the backcountry on the Ozark Highland Trail. A hiker had a mishap and was unable to walk out, and we, along with other responding agencies, were able to execute a successful extraction. We’re telling this story tonight because you guys always seem to love the Search and Rescue episodes, and there’s always value in learning about the process for any outdoors-person that spends time out in the field. Altogether it was a very interesting case, and makes for for some great listening! Tune in tonight to hear how it all went down!

I never considered that the rescue team would need to find a different route out. Very insightful.

Hey, do you know if Lee Hastings listens to your stories, and have you ever been a presenter at any SAR conferences or the like ???

I don’t know if she does or not. I kind of doubt it for some reason, she is a busy woman. I kind of doubt she even knows I exist 😂
Funny story about her…you remember when she was on the cover of Arkansas living (or maybe it was the outdoors mag) for the search and rescue issue? I facilitated that. The journalist contacted me about Search and Rescue, dog teams specifically, and I told her “Mikki is who you need to talk to. She’s the Prez of NASAR, and THE woman in the know about all things SAR in Arkansas. Just make sure and pronounce it Mike-UH” 😂
Several of those pics in the issue were mine that I took or was taken of my team and Franklin Co. during a technical rope class
The journalist, of course, butchered my name for photo credit and didn’t get any of the agencies represented right (I swear they don’t read what you send them and just make crap up lol)
And no I’ve never presented or offered to. The only think I think I’m “technically” qualified to present would be bushcraft, Firecraft and survival, just cause I used to get paid to teach classes on it privately. I’m only a tech2, so I have no instructor certs or credentials.
