"Future hall of famer, Kevin Conway" 😂
Extenzzzzzzze !!
I really miss having the bonermobile on track. Conway was one of the hardest competitors on track!
I don't think they could allow an Extenze and Long John Silvers car on the track at the same time lol
@@IanOnTheDL OH GOD
@@IanOnTheDL viagra and go daddy?
A wreck-filled race that ended on a MASSIVE high note.
Memorable for more than just the wrecks.
Lost in the shuffle is the fact that Bayne's idol, Jeff Gordon, helped him quite a bit in this race.
This was one of my favorite races ever. This was at the height of tandem drafting, the superspeedway package that year was top notch, The racing was great. Can’t believe that was 11 years ago. Time sure does fly.
Harvick only had 14 wins, today 58. Crazy
I believe truex had 1
make that 60
That Robby Gordon save tho. Damn!
Can only imagine how much different and more successful David Ragan would've been had he won this race. As good as he ended up being on plate tracks I'm sure his stock would've shot up big time from it
As a person with the same last name as him and growing up in the same state, it always pains me seeing 2011 500
@@southeastcupseries I'm from Georgia too! Vidalia here
@@KellieLeigh48 Atlanta metro but my family mostly lives in Savannah
David’s one hell of a driver too. Always been underrated.
@@mitch3DG underperformed majorly for roush thought except at plate tracks
"Dale Earnhardt Jr led the field to green"
*watches as Jr is in last to start while he says this*
Practice crash sent him to a backup car
So much excitement in the air for this Daytona 500 especially after that exciting Bud shootout. Crazy how many cautions there where though..
Man if Labonte won that race, he could’ve avenged his loss in the 2005 Coca Cola 600
I was rooting for him
It was his best chance of winning the 500 after 1998.
That would make sense, but if Labonte won, that would mean Trevor Bayne would’ve never won a race.
1:58 brings back good ol times, miss you DW
7:14 Boy that cone took a whale of a ride! 😂😂
This was the first race I ever watched. I turned it on a few laps before The Big One and was instantly hooked. I totally didn't know the wreck was that close to the beginning of the race 😂Now nascar is my favorite sport by far
here's an interesting suggestion for a future NASCAR Wreckfest
2007 Sam's Town 300, the 2nd NASCAR race with the most caoutions (25)
Car: drafts with teammate
Teammate: so you have chosen death.
When you said “Future hall of famer Kevin Conway”, I lost it. Best part of the video 100%!
There were a lot of wrecks in this race 🏁 but they also had a first time winner
7:13 that poor cone
I miss the Gen 5 days. Plus I miss the days when NASCAR on FOX went all out that year! Good times
Only 16 cautions??? man that’s how many we get in one stage nowadays
If you’re going to win a race let it be that one! I’ll never forget watching that race!
So much friendly fire in this race, damn. I didn't remember that. Great race tho
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I heard Boogity boogity boogity and almost cried
7:14 the cone that Biffle hit alos hit 2 other cars
If you think about it, Montoya was a good driver.
Funny how you uploaded the wrecks from the 2011 race at the same time MRN released the full race
1:47 "future hall of famer" I almost choked to death on a pizza roll
I was also 10 years old when this race happend, and I remember listening to the finish. it was definitly a thrilling finish.
I love this race because I sat and watched most of it myself, so I got to see the Wood Brothers go back to Victory Lane in Daytona for the first time in a long time. And also because a young Trevor Bayne proved that the restrictor-plate tracks are a massive equalizer for the field, being that mid-range equipment can win a race there with a mid-range driver.
What I didn't like was the hype around Bayne following the victory. Everyone treated the kid like the ambassador for "the new wave of NASCAR" and expected so much performance out of him every week, when he was NEVER placed in equipment that would help him contend. And though some may disagree with this... I don't think he ever had the skill to match the hype around him. At any point.
In a lot of ways, I think Bayne winning that Daytona 500 simultaneously launched and ruined his Cup career. He needed another year (or 2) in Xfinity to really lock in his skill, and the hype train essentially "derailed" his chance to grow into a decent driver over time. It probably kept him at Roush for a year or 2 longer than he would have been there, so he was able to make a living doing what he loved, but... idk, I'm just disappointed by Bayne's career, and it all started with this race.
Thanks for making me feel old man, born in 1992.
A lot of people hated tandem drafting, but honestly tandem drafting was the best plate racing we had all decade IMO
those tandem drafting years had some of my favorite finishes
Pity you left out my personal favorite piece of footage from this race - TB getting lost on the way to Victory Lane, driving straight past the turn in, and needing to be pushed backwards by members of the other teams to make the turn...
I was at this race. It was my first Daytona race in person.
Did you know that the 2011 Daytona 500 was on my birthday? The same goes for the 2006 Daytona 500, which is the same date that I was born. This year's Daytona 500 will be on my birthday, which is really cool.
Advanced 16th birthday
Crazy how Trevor Bayne just… never got it together
Stephen Wallace avoiding crashes? I thought he loved crashing.
here after bayne is going to gibbs
Mardawg?!
Norm Benning failed to qualify for the 2011 Daytona 500 aswell.
I've been watching the Daytona 500 since 1998, and I've seen just about everything from big names, zero to hero, horrible moments, tragedys, upset winners, and a whole lot more. 2011 Daytona 500 will always top of the board when Trevor Bayne won that race in surprise. I can't wait for the 2022 Daytona 500!
11 years later
I remember screaming like a little girl when Bayne crossed the line.
Loved watching these when DW commentated! The green flag drops are not the same anymore
You know this was the first Daytona 500 to have a large number of 16 cautions, this first race at Daytona to have 16 cautions outside of Bristol and Martinsville
TwistedToe would be proud

I always think Trevor Bayne always had alot of potential however his health issues really hindered his career
never heard about that, may you elaborate
@@cowmann3555 might have to look it up but I think he got diagnosed with MS or something like that
Karma for the 15 as well
This and the Aaron's 499 fron 2009 are some of the best races ever.
1:56 I miss that
One of NASCAR's biggest upsets.
What time did the race went green because it’s crazy that after all of those cautions it didn’t went to night time
I was at this race, check out the magic pylon during the Biffle/Montoya crash!
Future hall of Famer, Kevin Conway.
This Dayton was one of my personal favorites what about you?
If you think about it if carl Edwards won this race he would have been the champion at homestead but you could also say that about a few more races from the season. I can't believe he came second to both Bayne and Regan Smith in the same season
Great content/video as always!!
2017 Alabama 500 plzzzz. First ever race beginning my nascar love. Kind of a bad race to begin your NASCAR binging.
I Was At That Race!
This video should have been named wreck your teammate fest...
I'm your 80th like!!
I love dale jr. But my god did he massively underachieve at Hendrick. He was waaay worse thanhe ever was at DEI. And they were 20× better than DEI. Its honestly sickening looking back at it.
Mark Martin came back from 5 laps down to finish tenth
He got a few xfinity races with gibbs this season
Bayne is in Xfinity
Pain for me to see Jimmie and Mark wrecking (or is that Danica) in the thumbnail
I honestly don’t like this race
If Ragan hadn't changed lanes he would've been spun by the car behind 😒😠
Dude I can’t believe how biased Darrel Waltrip is
Lmao it was horrrrrible
