The Ramones were never really commercially successful, but they were successful in keeping rock alive during the disco years. Joey was a titan yet a level-headed guy, when he wanted to. Definitely left his mark on this earth.
Ah, i remember the glory days of the syndicated Howard Stern show where Joey and the Ramones made appearances. Joey was the heart and soul of the band. His praise is well deserved.
The Ramones are a great example of how messed up the music industry had become by the time they hit the scene. Their music was stunningly good, yet so few of their songs were widely played. You may hear Rock N Roll High School, I Wanna Be Sedated, or Blitzkreig Pop once in awhile on the radio but that was it. You had to fit a certain mold or you were outside looking in. The Ramones never caved and always stayed true to who they were. IMO a top 5 musical act of all time, with the best frontman ever. Their influence on music today is impossible to over-estimate or truly appreciate. I recently introduced the Ramones to my 11 year old son and they are now his favorite. The music is timeless. Thank you to the Ramones...the originals gone from this place but most certainly never forgotten.
My brother and I, big Ramones fans, always said after this, "Mahky wears a wig. Nah, Joey wears a wig". We heard this live and laughed our asses off. We both kind of knew the band weren't friends in real life, but the animosity between them was amazing to hear. Hard to believe these guys were together for over twenty years. Glad we saw them play before they folded.
Congratulations Howard for all the great moments, videos, sharing experiences and tribute to the one and only legendary voice of The Ramones! RIP JOEY we miss u so much!!!
5:33 Didn't even know about the man. I'm only22 and not super big into the music phase and haven't for a little while. But Rest in Peace Joey Ramon. I'm sure I've heard you before but never knew, I will defiantly give you a listen. Peace and Love.
A few weeks after Joey's death, May 19th, his brother Mickey Leigh, Tommy Ramone, Legs McNeil, John Holmstrom and Arturo Vega put together a concert with Blondie, Cheap Trick, the Damned along with a few other bands at the Hammerstien Ballroom. At the end, the staff passed out hostess cup cakes to the crowd. People ate one and threw the other into the crowd, giant mess but funny as hell.

Anyone know what was up with his neck? I remember him wearing a bandage but didn't want to talk about it back in the day. He must have had surgery or something but I never looked into it.
Damn can’t believe it’s been 20 years since his passing. Rest in power Joey Ramone.

They weren’t commercially successful here in the states but they did pretty well for themselves overseas
Tell that to South America. They were huge in there.
In USA they didnt have any success
In 1995 they had sold 4,5 million record's worldwide wich isn't alot, but they managed fine money isn't everything money can't buy happiness.
Hugely influential
Joey vs. Marky was easily one of the top ten moments in the show.
Saw the Ramones 4 times in the late 70’s. They were, and still are one of the greatest and most influential bands of all time. GABBA GABBA HEY!!! 🎸

Thank you Howard for playing the tiny clip of I wanna be sedated. Fond memories of Joey & Marky.
Love it. Mike Leigh apparently has a Netflix film on his book I Slept With Joey Ramone greenlit.

Awesome I seen them at lamour the ROCK CAPITOL of BKLYN... Rip. Joey / Lamour
RIP Joey 🤘🏼
Howard stern talking about himself passing away is the craziest thing I’ve seen in my life
In the 80’s they played, in the open, at Nassau Committee College, there was hardly anybody there, but my friend Mike and I had the best time.
Yeah they were horrible at playing lol but thats what made them great at the same time I guess

Joey is a success story ...about a nerdy guy who found and realized a completely different identity...and he wore it well.RIP

Tragic that both Johnny and Joey died of cancer relatively young in their 50's.
Joey was 49 and Johnny was 55
