I got to see them live in '77 at the Liberty Hall in Texas. I remember my dad took me and my buddies to go see them, my dad was that hip. He still listens to the Ramones, I fell in love with a legendary band ever since.
J Mason Thank you for letting me know I’m not alone. It fucking sucks dude!!! I envy people who aren’t bothered by touching other people and door handles and what not...
I saw The Ramones in one of their last 10 shows in '96. I think it's funny here how Johny stops Marky's twitch. The Ramones were really cool in their story and how every member had their own personality and story. Of all the concerts I've ever seen in my life, theirs was the one I'm the most thankful for. Those guys are all dead and gone now, so I'm really glad I got to see 'em before it was all said and done. The Ramones rule!
So funny how this straight-laced bimbo who shall remain nameless (because no one knows who she is) went from disparaging comments to a near-motherly attitude toward Joey. Just goes to show, the most charming person is an honest and talented person in the face of unwarranted criticism.
of course he rolled his eyes. She's another one of those conservative interviewers who were all conservative and hung up on hair and eyes and wardrobe and how "wild" we and the music were. To the viewer, it's funny and that gets ratings, but i tend to feel sorry for the bands. They wanna talk about the music, not have to keep defending or answering questions about your personal style. The Ramones weren't trying to be weird. They were just themselves, and needed to be interviewed by someone who could ask intelligent questions. The Beatles were the first to really deal with this, and they did it with a sense of humor, and they played it up. But after that, it just was annoying. She was clueless, but sweet. It was pretty telling seeing how each guy dealt with it. The audience sounded like a bunch of giddy high school kids. Pretty cute.
How can these guys all be gone? Too damn young to die! Rock is dead without bands like the Ramones! We need bands with guitars, amps, mics, and a kit, minus the samplers, loopers, and auto tune found in today’s crap.
Johnny and Joey sitting next to each other - bet that hasn't happened too many times. Who could blame Johnny for hating interviews when they're mostly conducted by dumb, condescending broads like this one?! And what's with all the treat-Joey-like-he's-a naughty-14-year-old nephew? Joey shows remarkable self control not to tell her where to go. This interview belies the common misconception that they were a dumb band. Dysfunctional, yes, but smart too, in their own unique way. Which is why we loved 'em then, love 'em now, and for always. Thanks, guys!
pretty much all the interviews back in the 80s and most of the 90s were like this, especially with similar bands.... stupid and not very substantive...
I'm from Coimbra, a city in the center of Portugal, the country Americans say it's a province of Spain. There was this "Psycho-billy" band in the 80's, the "Tedio Boys". They went to play at Joey's birthday, he liked them so much he became their godfather, and they made a success in the US university radios.
Love Johnny's eye roll at 4:04. This band was too intelligent for the questions they were subjected to. The interviewer clearly knew very little about punk rock (claiming that the Sex Pistols and Clash had safety pins through their cheeks and such).
He was eye rolling about something Joey said too....which should tell you A LOT about his views on Joey, if you didn't already know. Johnny never understood Joey, and always felt he was crazy (see 'End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones'). They had a tumultuous relationship. It prob helped them write songs, but it must have made their lives hellish. They were so good yet could hardly stand each other. Sad.
Miska Arpa - You wouldn't remember that when punk started out, in 1970s UK, the economy really sucked, and the safety pins holding their (deliberately ripped/or cut) clothing was a statement. In the newspapers, editorial cartoons would show safety pins through their skin - or an arm or leg - to show their appreciation.
No, but their fans put safety pins in their ears and clothes...and spiked and Mohawked their hair pretty early on...1977 was just the starting off point...the punk bands formed a few years before...Like the "RAMONES" who formed in Queens,NYC in 1974...In England, the punk bands and fans, were quintessentially more politically and socially motivated, by what was going on around them...The socio-economic climate was abysmal at this point in the mid-seventies....
I saw comment from the kid in high school who "is the only one" listening to the ramones. Cool man,I first got into them when I was in high school(in the nineties) you have very good taste in music.
In Mississippi, I've never heard a single Ramones song on F.M radio and I used to be an avid listener till I switched to Satellite. Literally not a single one though, not even Blitzkrieg Bop. I had to do my own research to discover this great band. - I'm livin' on a Chinese Rock, all my best things are in hawk.
I'm 53 years old and these guys are my favorite band now. I never liked them in the 70s on up until lately probably because I'm so tired of this matrix we're living in.
ah... "radio is like TV, they just wanna push mediocrity on the people." probably the best thing Johnny said. and this was 1981... compare that to now... its laughable. do you remember rock n roll radio?
I was fortunate to see The Ramones in 1976 at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX - it was an all-day event, beginning with a blues band in the beer patio, where we hung out all afternoon until the doors opened. The opening act was a group called Aalon, who had an album called "Cream City" - I still remember this 44 years later because Aalon reminded us of this before each and every song. I also remember that Aalon's keyboard player had skin that looked like some sort of lizard under the green spotlights shining on him. The Ramones finally came on, and the sound system allowed them to sound exactly like the albums. At that time, there were only two albums, and they played everything on both of 'em. Then they took an intermission, came back and played both albums AGAIN! I didn't get home until sometime after 2:30 a.m., but I was thankful for two things - that I got to see these guys*, and that I was off work the next day. *Tommy Ramone was the drummer for this show, and when he tossed out his drumsticks at the end of the concert, I caught one of them!
Every adult that was around when I played my Ramones records loved the Ramones. It was the melody and the lyrics. They should have got tons of airplay.
Man Dee Dee does not get the credit he is due. Best punk bass/song writer. Without Dee Dee there would have been no Ramones. He seems to be the only one a lot of times that gets it. Joey is a "goof" and Johnny's aloof and pissy particularly with interviewers who did not do their homework (No we're not brothers). Dee Dee on the other hands is like it is not about how we look, the punk is in the music. Kids are kids in NY and Detroit. There is no difference.
69zenos1 Without ALL of The Ramones there would never have been The Ramones. Each one added and subtracted at different times. But when they played....Gabba Gabba Hey!
69zenos1 Agreed he was the businessman, and in that respect, very important. But they are the sum of all the parts. All strong personalities that butted heads over time. Played together and were magic to the end.
John Householder +I'm a little late commenting on your post however, I agree! Dee Dee was/is the Ramones & for them to go and sing "Poison Heart" (HIS SONG) without him is a DISGRACE! I would have LOVED to hear it sung by DEE DEE instead.
“We are just the same as they are. We are all suburban kids.” - Dee Dee That’s why the Ramones are the people’s band because they didn’t sell out, they were just kids playing instruments.
“There’s room for everybody....there’s no reason to shut out one kind of music.”

I haven't seen anything innovative or new for quite some time .
I didn't wear a Zoot Suit in the 70's . But , look at these people now who think that they are Punks . Sorry , but they have the fashion , a bit of the sound BUT they aren't Punks because they dont have the attitude .
The Bings I remember
I wish Tom Snyder would have done this interview instead
U2 ON SNYDER-CLASSIC! they never got better than this night.
This group!!! I’m in the Midwest I’m considered Mexican the ramones saved my life thanks guys
Every recorded word that ever came out of Dee Dee's mouth is a blessing. RIP Angel
They’re remarkably endearing. Love it.
I give anything to have these guys back for one more show. Their music lives on in my iPod for the rest of my life!
I got to see them live in '77 at the Liberty Hall in Texas. I remember my dad took me and my buddies to go see them, my dad was that hip. He still listens to the Ramones, I fell in love with a legendary band ever since.
Joey's OCD must have been going crazy every time she tried to touch his hair.
Canucklehead I have OCD too and I don’t even hug my mother! You nailed it.
J Mason Thank you for letting me know I’m not alone. It fucking sucks dude!!! I envy people who aren’t bothered by touching other people and door handles and what not...
Fart2ize I’m an expert at opening doors and switching off lights with my feet and elbows lol.
Corona's a bitch.
It’s hard to touch my own hair
Greatest band in the history of humanity and let me say I saw them 4 times live, once on LSD at the actual CBGBs
2:28 shows how lovely Dee Dee was. He really didn't want them to name anyone...like he felt bad. Such a sweetheart.
So funny how this straight-laced bimbo who shall remain nameless (because no one knows who she is) went from disparaging comments to a near-motherly attitude toward Joey. Just goes to show, the most charming person is an honest and talented person in the face of unwarranted criticism.
Nick Danger : it’s Kelly Lange - try to stay positive
I was lucky to see them twice in the same week back in 1988. This was when they were all still alive. Best week ever!!
8:09 wild foot being catched
Jona And Johnny is treating him.
Johnny rolls his eyes at 4:04 for some reason...Must be the interviewer constantly asking Joey about his hair.
Yea, i think he is just fed up with the interviewers shit!
of course he rolled his eyes.
Marcus Olsson That eyeball roll was pretty funny.
How could he tolerate having his hair in his eyes though?
Johnny's eye roll at 4:07 is priceless
Their humor is the best! I wish I could’ve met these guys.
I wish there could be a resurgence of musicians like this, such a great punk band
OMFG GET YOUR FILTHY PAWS OFF JOEY'S HAIR!!!!
He's sooo cute with his hair like that!
Cara Cavota yes. He is the cutest guy ever
Yes! He is so cute! 😘😘😘😘😘
pleasant dreams is my favorite RAMONES LP from the 1980s.
So awesome..I could watch them 24/7 Thank you for posting this! Made my day!
joey has a great sense of humor.
I first saw the group on the Uncle Floyd show and became a fanatic ever since 1979.
I love how you can hear the mics picking up the creaking leather.
OG Artists, proud that they're 🗽🇱🇷
Love Johnny's eye roll at 4:04. This band was too intelligent for the questions they were subjected to. The interviewer clearly knew very little about punk rock (claiming that the Sex Pistols and Clash had safety pins through their cheeks and such).
Well they had it through their ears didnt they?
There had to have been a band that did that; I want to find their discography.
OMG...
how much I miss them, thay came to Argentina a lot of times and I miseed that shows.
Long live RAMONES.💪
Joey loved making that elevator joke. He’s the best 💕
love me some Ramones! How could you not love em!
I love these guys so much. My favorite band of all times. The Ramones and the Beatles. Hands down. Changed everything. Hey Ho Lets go!
I saw comment from the kid in high school who "is the only one" listening to the ramones. Cool man,I first got into them when I was in high school(in the nineties) you have very good taste in music.
Most down to Earth band of all time.
Saw Marky Ramone Concert july, 5 2023 in Nürnberg, Germany. It was a great concert.
the funny thing is you never heard the Ramones on the radio in the 70's and you still don't
Nah here in Philly they play ramones on radio.
8Dgman John Peel played them often on his show in England back in the late 70s
They play them here in Alabama. Their music is also in at least one commercial every year, lol.
nosense58 yeah, and tha cuestion is why???
In Mississippi, I've never heard a single Ramones song on F.M radio and I used to be an avid listener till I switched to Satellite. Literally not a single one though, not even Blitzkrieg Bop. I had to do my own research to discover this great band. - I'm livin' on a Chinese Rock, all my best things are in hawk.
OK thank you Daniel! The Ramones are my favorite American band of all time.
Joey is one of the best singers and frontmen
Is it me? Or was it that the interviewer couldn't keep her hands off of Joey? He, he, Joey that stud. ;)
Joey and Johnny are my heartthrobs ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great inteview, best Ramone lineup!
Best From Late Night With Johnny P Show.
This is the the first interview I've seen of the Ramones.... I never realised how dry Joey's humour was! Every joke went straight over her head.
Saw these guys in 1980 in Lancaster UK. Fabulous gig.
Sometimes, Joey's hair is what mine looks like when I get out of bed in the morning. No joke
same lol
Zoe Fry Then keep it that way,put on a leather jacket, put on jeans, put on some sunglasses, and BOOM a perfect Joey Ramone Halloween costume!
I've gotten my hair cut shorter, so I'm gonna be Dee Dee
I'm 53 years old and these guys are my favorite band now. I never liked them in the 70s on up until lately probably because I'm so tired of this matrix we're living in.
the ramones were freaking funny I loved when Joey said "we all met in the elevator and has the same last name"
Grew up with them and am honored.
*Tommy Ramone was the drummer for this show, and when he tossed out his drumsticks at the end of the concert, I caught one of them!
my mom went to this show and also to the sex pistols in san antonio
What a band
I love this interview. So many funny parts. When the lady says Joey should cut her hair and Jonny rolls his eyes haha . So good .
Is no one gonna mention how funny it was when Johnny corrects Marky in front of all those people when Marky kept on fidgeting with his foot
You mean without TOMMY there would have never been the Ramones. Get your facts straight, dude ski.
69zenos1 Without ALL of The Ramones there would never have been The Ramones. Each one added and subtracted at different times. But when they played....Gabba Gabba Hey!
of course they had the right chemistry but Tommy was the brains and the energy to get them going.
I would have LOVED to hear it sung by DEE DEE instead.
i actually hadnt seen this footage before, thanks for sharing!
“We are just the same as they are. We are all suburban kids.” - Dee Dee That’s why the Ramones are the people’s band because they didn’t sell out, they were just kids playing instruments.
Excellent interview
Really the best band
Joey is very insightful about the music industry.
