definitely my favorite pre demon souls fromsoft game in this style. lots of cool set pieces, amazing variety of weapons and armor to play around with. and of course im happy they have different control layouts and one of them feels like a modern game which is great for anyone can jump into. not only would i say its miles better then 4 but also way better then the first shadow tower which for a late release PS1 game felt worse then king field 2
Sadly, my experience with King's Field 4 turned me away from ever playing the earlier King's Field games and the original Shadow Tower, but Shadow Tower Abyss was definitely a step in the right direction for FromSoft. Glad they finally found some solid footing with Demon's Souls.
@@RushHourWeekend thats understandable and i can tell you that the PS1 games are pretty rough but given they are much older you kinda have to expect that it will feel more archaic which also makes 4 a huge let down that they barely improved anything. but i also did play kings field 1 and 2 when i was younger so i do have a soft spot for them but they are not easy to recommend to most people these days.
King's field 4 is indeed a puzzle oriented game, but the puzzle here is more of like whole Acient city itself. Slowness in 4th game is kinda understandable, bcs whole game take its place in closed and small corridors of city, and you don't really needs a faster turn anyway. You supposed to have troubles with turning and moving, and so do your enemies. But this is not all. The one very thing that differentiates king's field series from the others from software's dungeon crawlers is its level and world design. Kf4 does not have any loadings for a reason. Shadow tower abyss is more trying to give his previous game more action capabilities and action depths. But king's field 4 is mostly about exploring city, and I mean it. In progression through city, you dont question integrity of this world. Therefor you not just as a player, but as an explorer fully into this game. This Is something that shadow tower and Eternal ring don't have, bcs their integrity is questionable.
It's a huge shame we didn't get this one in the West officially, but from what I've read it sold very poorly in Japan... that's too bad, because it really is better than KF4 in my experience. Oh well.
You know there’s a control option to just use the left stick to move and the right stick to look around? There’s control options to make the game play like modern first person games on a controller
I think using tank controls makes sense in this game because flicking the right stick for directional attacks is pretty intuitive, and makes for more satisfying combat. Kamiya’s another director that likes using the right stick in interesting ways in his action games, and I wish more developers would experiment with using the right stick for combat instead of camera control. My issue has more to do with King’s Field 4 using tank controls without having any meaningful use for the right stick, and pointing out how Shadow Tower Abyss improves upon that control scheme (among other things).
