ALL THE WAY!!
We really need to fire off a kickstarter and bring her to Finals 2021. She is our international RUclips emissary.
Yes and we are all here for it lol
Alonzo Gonzalez hi alonzo funny seeing you here 😂
Jansu Roto who are you? 😅
As someone who marched in this show, your reactions made my entire day ❤️
fr tho this was amazing!!
YOU BETTA
Bruh my dream is SCV!!!!
omg yay! I'm so happy to hear this! Y'all killed it!!!!
you have my upmost respect bro, i love vanguard and i wanna march with crown someday
Scv: Horn snap
Courtney: oo....oouuuh
That's like everyone's reaction and it's amazing everytime lmao
I just loved how in this day of props and electronics and everything else, the biggest reactions of the year came from a horn snap and a whole note.
@@MarcoIsNotHere_Man and the second highest note in DCI history(the highest is SCV 2019)
@@tuttiflooti I'm gonna say nope. The squeaky high notes weren't in the same league, reaction-wise.... Cause they were squeaky high notes. I'll take Roland's double C (yes, on a G horn) from BD's 94 closer any day. No mic, right in tune, and loud enough to be heard over the entire corps at full volume. ruclips.net/video/Rf7Rj2ProKg/видео.html
ssssssssssAMMMMMMMMEEEEEEE!
Yes what Marco said 10000x
This show is an abstract way of depicting the story of the tower of babel, hence the show title. The props are supposed to represent city buildings and skyscrapers. All the corps members are on the same big building (the tower of babel) and are struck down, forced to speak different languages. The beginning with the intense music and the screaming is representing the people unable to communicate. The drill shows this is as they guard and brass are separated. The two soloists on the props are like two people having a conversation. The big hit during the ballad and last movement represents the people coming together and understanding each other. The drill also conveys this as everyone is doing the same or reflecting the other half of the corps. One of the best designed shows ever!
Everything makes sense now!!!!!
Babylon was also the Capitol of an ancient Mesopotamian kingdom called Babylonia.
@@niklarson1365 That's what I always assumed the show was based on, some sort of siege or something in Babylon. The above explanation makes so much more sense though
Also if you’ve never listened to the source music of the ballad, “my body is a cage” by Peter Gabriel (also Arcade Fire, but their rendition went off Gabriel) you can understand that concept even further. The entire premise of the song is up to interpretation. I’ve read things ranging from eating disorders, depression, being struck with fear, watching the world move around you and you don’t know what to do. However, my favorite, and the one I believe to be real meaning, is about a paraplegic man who is still alive and sane, but can’t speak or express their thoughts.
“My body is a cage that keeps me from dancing with the one I love, but my mind holds the key. I’m living in an age that calls darkness light. Though my language is dead, still the shapes fill my head. You’re standing next to me, my mind holds the key. Set my spirit free, set my spirit free. set my body free.”
I’ve watched this show at least 20 times and I didn’t know this.
I watched them in person and it was by far the greatest thing I have ever seen in my life
Same. I’m sad I graduated because our school took a trip to watch them
I was there when they beat BD for the first time in over a decade, the crowd was manic
Bro that was a night to remember. I saw it at the rose bowl.
@@seanconnors7404 march! dont limit yourself to high school / college marching band! It was the best decision of my life to audition.
@@junethanoschurchill6750 It was absolutely whack ill never forget it
The two guys are playing the baritone it gives the tenor voice of a band and it's a really beautiful instrument to play at least I think so lol. Baritones for life
Trent Floyd no u
Well I mean treble clef baritone is the same as bass clef in regards to sound but notes are just placed differently.
Yes I agree with you my good sir
The baritone is just so beautiful when its played hands down
Euphoniums too, but yea Baritones for life
you also HAVE to watch "Carolina Crown Drops the hammer" It's the most viewed dci video
Yes or beast !
YES
Is it really? That’s crazy, I figured it’d be high up but that’s crazy
Bd 2017 quad cam has almost ten mil views
She needs to do a reaction video of her hearing a Corp drop the hammer live in person
Being someone who was in this show (the biggest bass drum), seeing reactions like this makes the work worth it!
Hi Jacob! Congratulations on the performance!! Y'all really killed it!! Thank you!!!
Jacob - SCV Alum here too! Thank you for the best DCI ever. Did you age-out?
This was the greatest show on earth. Just outstanding and flawless!!!
“They aren’t even done yet.”
Little did she know the best part of the show was coming.
@the mello power chord?
yesss!!!
all I could think of was "THIS ISNT EVEN MY FINAL FORM!!" 😆😋
“You don’t choose Vanguard, Vanguard chooses you.” Amy Frost told me that when I got my Vanguard bucket hat signed. Is it normal for musicians to start crying to any kind of musical creation or is it just me🤔 The closer had me in tears.
Not just u that closer made me shed a tear when i first watched it at the end of band camp with my band. The ballad hit me too. Im a BD fan till i die, but there is NO QUESTION that they 100%, without a doubt, deserved this win. I still get goosebumps every time I watch it.
First off, if you get moved like that by music there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. second off, if the music makes you that emotional, IT WAS DONE RIGHT!
I cry EVERYTIME I WATCH THIS SHOW
Gosh I thought I was just corny..I teared up a few times as well as yelling out "Well just go head!!"
VERY NORMAL‼️
This closer is BEYOND epic….Biblical at the highest level‼️‼️❤️🙌🏽🙏🏽✝️
Those mellos blasting out a long single note is like the 2nd Coming of Christ🎉
I don't normally get down with reaction videos, but seeing an "outsider" support the sport is TOTALLY worth watching/supporting her video!
Getting you 2021 tickets to DCI finals would REALLY blow your mind 🤯🤤!!
I know you did not just call marching band a sport-
@@littlemow DCI is definitely a sport. There is a video somewhere on youtube of a tenor drummer being monitored during a rehearsal. His heart rate matched that of marathon runners and his metabolic rate was through the roof. There is more, but I honestly cannot remember. I highly recommend checking it out though.
@@littlemow I mean, it is super clearly written in my comment. I wouldn't expect you to understand the athleticism, commitment, and talent that goes into this kind of elite competition. Check it out, you might learn something.

THE SCV SNAP AT 10:14
I honestly bust to that noise
Straight fricken fire, every time
Post dance break/Tuba breakdown: “Oh, it’s not even finished”.
Oh sweetheart..buckle up for what’s coming.
i swear!!
Haha said this verbatim lol
Hey Courtney!
Little instrument information:
- The smallest brass instrument is the trumpet. For example, at the end of the ballad, there were three trumpets at the front and one hit a really high note (Second highest ever in DCI!)
- Next, is the mellophone. They are the marching substitute for the french horn. They look kind of like a trumpet, but they have a really big bell in the front. At the end of the ballad, the mellophones were the instruments on the stairs in the center of the field. The really really fast note patterns, or runs, are almost always the mellophone.
- Next is the marching baritone. They are the medium size horns. In the ballad, the two soloists on the tall platforms were baritones. They are my personal favorite, but that is most likely because I play the baritone. Most baritones have their bells facing upwards, but marching baritones face forwards.
- While SCV does not use them, some drum corps also march with euphoniums. They are similar to baritone and to an untrained eye might even look identical. They're sound is slightly different, however, with a darker and more soulful tone.
-Finally, the largest brass instrument is the Contra. These are also called contrabass bugles but are most commonly called marching tubas. They are the really large brass instruments that go over the left shoulder of the player. They have by far the lowest sound in the corp.
Can I also add that contra tubas add about 25-35 pounds more to the marcher. But besides all that baritone is the best brass instrument and you can't change my mind.
@@trentfloyd5763 mad respect for the contra players.. them quads be Poppin after DCI season
Thank you so much for this!!!

I love going to watch them! Fun fact I was also there in the crowd watching
@@seanconnors7404 I saw 18 SCV at the Rose Bowl....even early season, the show was a monster.

I am absolutely loving this series of drum corps reviews by you. It feels amazing having others appreciate the art.
Dude... Right? I’m so excited that she is drawn to us. Her responses are so genuine.
Thank you so much! I've been really enjoying it!!
One of my favorite shows ever. I'm glad Courtney liked it as well. Now what's next is Crown Drops the Hammer!
YASSSSSSS!!!!! maybe she should probably get some speakers, put them around the room, have her sit, or stand in the middle of the room, and get to experience how loud it is. u know what i mean?

YAAAASSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe blue knights 2019 🔥🔥🔥
@@joshd1911 that might be a bit much, we don't want to break all her windows.
Four years later, this popped up in my recommended. I was a sophomore in HS when I got to see this show in person, and it brings me back to those wonderful-wonderful days of high school band. The ending was so hyper-emotional for not just the performers, but the audience as well.
Thank you for bringing a brilliant smile to my face this morning!
did anyone else notice at 5:31 her claps were in time?
Ya know sometimes that just happens😂
Only bandos would realise this😂
What is so incredible to me, is not only the high quality musical performance, but to be able to remember all of the intricacies of movement, formation, and being fluid in the
execution of such, all while playing an instrument. WHEW ! ! !
exactlyyyy!!! i'm dumbfounded by the same thing! Absolutely amazing!!
You don’t know much of the instruments but you understand the progression of the show which is awesome! It’s always nice to see people not involved in the activity acknowledging it
This certainly is a good one. I love seeing you do videos on this Courtney, it’s great to see someone from outside DCI watch and appreciate our activity. Thank you.
You're so welcome!!
This is now the only place I can find on RUclips to watch this angle of the show, it means a lot to still have it available
I remember watching this show live and me and my friend were both freaking out. It was crazy not knowing where to look and not to mention how fast it felt. scv has had some crazy shows in recent years.
That trumpet trio is the most badass trio I’ve ever heard. For my fellow trumpets, that’s a double E at the end. A DOUBLE E
At 6:14 when you said "yes girl" to the guard performer, that guard member is my school's color guard tech lol
ayyyy! haha
Please watch Bluecoats 2016 show, “Downside Up”
Guys let’s get this to the top
You have to request it on her website
if she could actually find the show, i have the audio but no footage
Sgt Haddix I think there’s headcam footage but it’s just not the same
@@sgthaddix2604 I have the show and I'll suggest it

At 10:13 that little “oop” when the line put their horns up was amazing. Then the reaction after that was pretty great too lol.
Me skipping to 10:14 just to see her reaction
Funny part about that high trumpet note is that's actually the 2nd highest note ever played in DCI history
Greatest show ever put out onto the field. Maybe not in terms of cleanliness or score, but emotion and performance. I have yet to watch this show and not tear up.
The beginning, Tower of Babel falls and creates chaos as no one knows how to speak or understand each other.
The ballad shows the soloist starting off speaking a different way, through music. In the distance he hears a response.
More and more people start responding and learning to communicate in this new way until they’re all finally connected through the language of music.
Ugh. Brings me to tears every time.
Hi Courtney, I love what you're doing here with various DCI performances and love watching how much you enjoy them. I marched with the Vanguard in the mid 1970's and have kept up with the activity ever since. I'm really glad you did a "reacts" video to SCV 2018 and I just wanted to add that this show is in my opinion (and everyones got one LOL) THIS performance is THE best I have ever seen....EVER! I've watch the DVD countless times and it still gives me goose bumps. Keep on doing these...there are plenty performances that would amaze you. Cheers!
It takes a lot to make me tear up when it comes to music, and that ballad is one of the only moments that has been able to.
Need to get her over to the states for a couple of shows. She would be blown away by actually seeing it live
React to Bluecoats 2016 next! It was their first time ever winning championships and it was well deserved! I’ll make the request on your website too but I thought I’d share it here first :)
It's so hard to find it on RUclips 😫
myles Ragas not Bluecoats 2016
12:08 look at the drum major in the bottom right, he starts dancing. I was right behind him in the front row for this and i cannot tell you over the internet how loud i screamed 😂😂😂😂😂
This SCV show may wind up being the evolutionary highpoint of DCI when we look back years from now. Everything was on fire and everything was " top shelf." So awesome.
I literally cried watching this show on video for the first time, def would’ve been sobbing if I was there in person
I did same. Over and over. I cry for the ballad to the end every time I watch it which is really often lol
Chills, every time. Will never forget how I felt the first time that I saw this performance. Gotta love SCV
Your reactions remind me that all the blood sweat and tears and countless hours of rehearsals were worth it on so many different levels. Happy that you enjoy and appreciate the work put in by these incredible performers. I’m happy I was a small part of it so many years ago. You’re most welcome anytime if you can ever see this live and in person. Take care.

Hi Daniel! Thank you so much! It's been such a pleasure!!!
Another one of the best dci shows ever right here
The ones On the props are playing a baritone, or specifically a marching baritone, the trumpet is the one those 3 guys are playing at the end with the rlly high note. Specifically called trumpet screamers. Gotta love them 😎😎
I wanna her to watch drop the hammer, I feel like that reaction would be great 😂
that high note on trumpet- im blown away..
this is the first SCV show i've watched
new second favorite corps
BD and SCV
This is the 3rd video i've watched of you reacting to a DCI group. It feels really good watching someone who's not used to seeing these performances. For some reason, this amazing, spectacular, never-fails show is not mainstream, and it should be. I have been watching DCI bands perform since the late 90's, and to this day they give me chills.
Aussie here! (almost Kiwi right?) I aged out 12 years ago with Bluecoats and LOVE LOVE LOVE that you are reacting to these. videos It warms my heart to see somebody from this side of the world appreciate the art of drum corps. It's something that no one here gets and I LOVE that you're a fan now!! Your reactions are priceless and so real - and exactly what the community loves to see. Keep on doing your thing!
Just found your channel Courtney. It is so great to watch your reactions to each one. Watching how emotional you get just watching the videos I can imagine how you would completely "loose it" if you were there live. (Make sure you bring that box of tissues girl!!) Those of us who have been blessed to be a part of DCI and the drum corp experience take our hat off to you for your appreciation and obvious love for this type of competition. Those of us who have been a part of drum corp it is hard to explain the feeling, exuberance and beat down exhaustion of what it involves to be a member of this elite group of those who put their hearts, souls and minds into something that we have grown to love and still do today after our 'retirement'. Thank you again Courtney. Your reactions and appreciation again make those of us in the group pleased we have again 'converted' and won another heart to DCI and the drum corp world!!!!
I loved how you enjoyed this. I only first watched it with you, although a DCI fan for years. Outstanding!
YES YES YES YES YES! This is the best one Courtney!!!
Dylan Couch Bluecoats 2016 is still the best in my opinion ;)
Gabriel French nah babylon goes too hard
@@bernie9543 I remember watching this late season around the 45 yard line and I remembered the old ending and they played the mello sustain instead and all of that and I probably lost some hearing in my ears and passed out because I was in the front row lol.
It’s not the best one, Spartacus was and will be the best one ...
This is my #1 all-time favorite show! ❤ 2018 SCV ❤
The last time SCV won the title was the tie with Blue Devils in 1999...19 years -- the longest gap between wind ever. Last solo win was 1989.
Even up in the BD seating block at the Rose Bowl show early in the season, we knew 1) this was a monster program, and 2) we (BD) were in for a fight!
My high school friend marched in this show. I feel honored to even know someone that marched in it lol
that's awesome!!
You are right, being on the field on finals night is one of the most amazing feelings ever. So many memories even over 25 years ago.
SCV could have legally performed that show this summer since they’re wearing masks...
LMAOOOOO,but the BRASSS!!!! *SHOOT*!!!

@@benjitrombone4701 bruh it's a joke
I love how much you love it! I love that you know nothing about it but can appreciate just how awesome it really is. The performers and staff/designers work tirelessly to create this 10 or so minute program over the course of a year or more. I love that you love it. Music is so powerful! I have been in the field of marching bands for over a decade and it's kinda really nice to see someone who has no official knowledge or expertise give it such a respectful view and appreciation. I will keep watching your videos for more of it!
Santa Clara needs to do MORE shows like this! For years they were the bridesmaids and that year they were FINALLY the bride! Well done, SCV!
Those baritone solos
YES
Thanks for reminding me how insane this show was. Also I love how you’re almost matching the uniform with your own fit
This show is by far my favorite
I'd watched SCV rehearse this show when at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex 7/31/18. When they did the final run through that night, the audience was blown away. I knew then that the show was a winner! A friend of mine, Donny Allen, is one of the brass instructors (mellophones) for SCV.
I know someone that was in SCV, I am glad someone recommended this show for you!
I actually got the honor of seeing this performance live and it was so stunning musically it’s engaging and visually all their pictures are on point
The musical choices and arrangements make this show for me. The closer is BADASS 😍👏🏼
This has to be my most favorite DCI show like ever.
I can't help but smile evertime I watch Courtney react.
Standard brass instruments in a drum corps are (in order from smallest to biggest) trumpet, mellophone, baritone, euphonium, and tuba. The two "dueling" soloists were playing baritones.
So cool that even though you aren't that into DCI you go out and react and appreciate them!!! Thanks a lot from Idaho, USA!
absolutely! They're amazing performances and I respect the hard work that must go into these! Thanks so much for watching!!
Lol...
Courtney @ 10:15- O... Yassss... Oh Yasss...
I’ve been waiting for this one. There is a “head camera” version of this show that was shot by one of the marimba players. Those are the drummers in the front of the field. Amazing stuff. Thank you for continuing to watch and support.
I lived in Oregon and I got to do a "experience" with them where they welcomed band from all over Oregon to come do a marching and sound thing to help you in class. we actually ended up incorporating a lot of what they talked about into my class. I was the only one from my school to show up. they did the circle of sound around us and it was gorgeous and a total once in a life time experience that entirely changed my respect towards professional marching.
I got to watch them at middle tennessee state and it is so much more incredible when you are actually there to see it! This show will always give me goosebumps!!!
Had the opportunity to sit in this corps' warm up circle as well as see their show in person. An unforgettable experience!
The two soloists on the far left and right sides of the field during the Ballad (My Body is a Cage, Peter Gabriel) are playing Baritones.
PERIODTTTTTT YOU ARE AWESOME I LOVE THESE, I GET SO EXCITED FOR THESE!!!!!
yayyy!! :D thank you so much!
YESSSSSS never clicked on a video so fast! I got to see this show live and nearly shit my pants at the snap
That trumpet player played one of the highest notes in DCI history
wow!!
I'm a former alum and to see them win after 19 years made me scream in happiness. Great show
We in BD-land were happy for you as well....been FAR FAR too long!
Here we go Courtney! You know you've seen this name thrown around in the comments! Just such a crazy show when I first saw this! Was iffy at the beginning of the season, and some others felt the same way, but wow did the show quickly just come together after a few competitions, Rose Bowl in Pasadena CA is where it all clicked for them!
My father got the two of us tickets to DCI finals the year I graduated from high school in 2014. I was already a major fan of DCI from bearing witness to countless shows between 2008 and 2013. Even though I was a part of the marching arts through high school, little did I know I was taking it for granted the whole time. DCI is the pinnacle. The definition of the culmination of great passion/ commitment/grit/athleticism/musicianship ALL PACKED TOGETHER INTO ONE GIANT BLOWOUT OF A 12 TO 13 MINUTE SHOW! Every show takes countless hours of practice and rehearsal to get polished as close to perfection as possible. and that is EXACTLY what every single corps aims for. undeniable, undisputed PERFECTION
I dont know how to describe it, but what I miss most about being in a marching band is the overwhelming sense of pure volume and bliss when you get to the last hit of the show. I got to see this show live which was extremely phenomenal. I wish I could do it all over again
I saw this live and was there. And I still get emotional to this day watching it over
You’re absolutely awesome and so sweet, i LOVE this reaction and it’s so nice seeing everyone’s reactions to activities and art that you may not be fully involved with!
Crown 2016 Inferno is another crowd favorite
I've been waiting so long for this!
I was just waiting for her reaction to the ballad and Club Sound. Those are my favorite parts 😍 I wish I could have saw this in person tbhhh
Courtney, I've been a DCI fan most of my life, beginning with marching in a drum corps style marching band back in the 70's when I was in high school. My brother and I host about 60 people (family, friends, former marching mates) every year at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium each summer. We buy a block of seats right under the judges tier in the middle, so we have the best seats in the house. I say all that as background to something you'll find interesting about this show and the "Spartacus" show from 2008 by the Phantom Regiment, both of which I saw in person. These two corps have traded directing staff for years and both have a strong tradition of playing a lot of classical or symphonic music. In some ways they're like sister corps. In 2008 the percussion caption head and the music arranger/brass caption head for the Phantom Regiment were the same guys who served those roles for Santa Clara Vanguard in 2018. The brass guy is a very accomplished french horn musician in his own right, hence the heavy emphasis in both of those shows on the mellophone (a French horn sounding type of instrument) sound, especially in the case of the Santa Clara Vanguard, which you hear in that huge sustained note at the end. I just thought you might find that interesting. I absolutely love your enthusiasm as you share these shows. Trust me, at no time does it ever wane. My first DCI show was in 1974, and today I turn into the same kid I was then when I witness the always astounding performances by these musician athletes.
So happy you got to see this show!!!!!!!!!
I've watched several of the New Zealand Girl reactions to the various DCI shows. {Thank you for doing that.}
I love SCV 2018, but so far, there's only been one show, that she has watched, that has moved her to a euphoric state: And that is 2008 Phantom. At the end of the show, when she sits back in her chair, exhausted, that's when you know you have seen something special.
true!!!!!
these shows are incredible in real life, they melt your face off,
lol but that's a good thing
Saw this live. This show really is what got me into DCI in general.
Fun design facts:
The music was designed by the same people that wrote Spartacus for Phantom Regiment, and the drill (formations) were designed by Michael Gaines, who did 007 for Cavaliers
