I never watch these kinds of "reacts to" videos, but you are a humble guy with a pure interest to learn and experience new things. I love that. Keep doing your videos man, I enjoy watching them! Greetings from Sweden bud :)
One of only a handful who can maintain a level of quality that keeps you interested
Ian is pretty darn awesome alright!
Well said.
All those Fords you liked were Escort Cosworth. Usually referred to as Cossies or Cozzies
You got the Lancia Delta Integrale HF Evo correct.
4:52 Seat Ibiza (Pronounced: Sey-At)
5:06 Renault Clio Rally4
7:46 Also an Escort Cosworth
8:27 Renault Maxi Megane
9:36 Renault Clio Rally4
9:52 Nissan Sunny GTi-R (one of the coolest hot hatches ever)\
11:07 Seat Ibiza
12:18 Peugeot 306 Maxi
15:59 Skoda Felicia
that's a Clio maxi but you got the rest right buddy 👍
i miss my renault clio williams swissedition no.001 of 150. i been stupid to sell this car.
I mean Swiss campion edition not swissedition
11:31 and a golf
The cars garage fabro called clio rally4 are clio maxi, the rally4 are new clio that race on the category of fwd of the modern wrc
13:23 This "wavey" technique is called a Scandinavian Flick and is a fundamentally important technique in rally driving, which is used to transfer the weight of the vehicle in order to get it spinning around a hairpin.
Not just hairpins. They do it on almost every fast corner in rally's like Finland, New Zealand
4:51 Seat (Spanish brand, currently owned by VW), that model is the Ibiza (Seat always named their cars after Spanish cities).
He'll need to know it's pronounced Sey-at Ibeetha too!
@@Derry_Aire I'd rather say Se-hat Eebeethza ...
If you're interested, you should give Jeremy Clarkson's piece on the 1983 Rally Championship (Audi Quatro vs Lancia 037) from the Grand Tour a watch if you haven't seen it already.
That and Richard Hammond's piece on Jim Clark, also from the Grand Tour and the Senna Piece from Top Gear, all amazing pieces that they've done.
you could also give some of Donut media's "Up to Speed" videos a watch, i'd recommend the Colin McRae (a lot of the great Subaru clips in this video were McRae) and Ken Miles ones
That Ford was an Escort Cosworth , my dream car for years 😊 and you were bang on with lancia delta intergrale 👍🏻
And of course a Seat Ibiza was the one he had no clue about.
You've got to watch 'The Tragic Story of Rally's Most Fearless Driver' by Driver61. Colin McRae was the epitome of what a rally driver was/is/should be.
The king of flat out or crash out, a true legend, sadly missed
13:24 basically what they're doing is preloading the suspension by shifting the weight of the car, so that when they release the brakes, the suspension causes the car to rotate. It's better to initiate oversteer or understeer rather than have it happen without expecting it.
Colin Mc Rae was one of the best & most skilled pilots for Subaru livery-555 and Ford Escort Martini livery.. ( RIP - Colin ), the orange Escort was his fierce rival Carlos Sainz senior who also driven Toyota Celica and the Mitsubishi (from Colt, Lancer to Evo) was Tommi Makinnen..
@@poplaurentiu4148 Martini Liveried Escort was probably driven by Franco Cunico in the Italian national championship. McRae drove the later Martini liveried Ford Focus WRC in the 1999 season when he switched from Subaru to Ford that year.
@@poplaurentiu4148 he crashed more than he won. If that defines the best then an average 16 year old would do better
@@joshthomas2536 (Rip -Colin).. Listen, most pilots crushed and abandoned but if Colin crush got the car quickly smacked straight as best he could and kept on going.. at one time racing for Ford and the team /rival Carlos Sainz with same car was about 33 full seconds behind him that is a lot in rallye, Sainz couldn't keep the same speed on same conditions with the same car.. Colin was so fast that team boss order Colin to slow down.. the only other great talent that was doing similar style same way in full send, full throttle was A.Senna in many tracks like Donnington in rain from 7 spot to 1 in just 3 laps or Monaco the narrowest track from F1 calendar with no room for errors same thing he got in front overpassing everyone and he was leading the field by so much that team-boss concerned order to slow down since he demonstrate he was the best but when he did slow down eventually he crushed sliding on a oil dropped from last position in front of him.. now i'm not expert, rally pilot or F1 pilot but if you are an pilot to race to be fastest in a championship against other pilots that want same thing and your team boss order to slow down since you are too fast that means everything buddy.. ask any pilots from both disciplines who was the most skilled and best pilots, both Colin & Senna are usually on top.. so, believe what you want, btw Colin died not in rally or motorsport event which he loved so much, but in a stupid helicopter crush as passenger..
4:50 SEAT Ibiza, 5:05: Renault Clio Maxi, 7:39 Ford Escort Cosworth
8:23 - Renault Mégane ; )
You missed the BMW E30
@@Seb-Storm - Ian knows that one.
@@module79l28 he kinda guessed but I'm also new to the channel. Thanks for letting me know he already knew that one
@@Seb-Storm - Ian is a car guy, he knows the large majority of brands, even Renault, Peugeot and Citröen, but obviously there are some models/brands he doesn't recognise. : )
It was in Australia, Western Australia to be exact. It was actually called the Bunnings Super Special Stage. An infamous stage that has 3 big jumps in quick succession with the water splash following.
Hey Ian, this is my first comment on your channel but i love your videos, my dads name is also Ian haha anyways if your wondering how the Subaru keeps nailing corners perfectly its because of a young Scotsman named Colin McRae.. The greatest rally driver of all time, maybe you should react to a few of his tributes and compilations, no other driver drove as flat out and as sideways as McRae. I'd love to see a reaction on him!
You mean Colin McCrash
I came here to say the same thing! He was an incredible driver!
Colin was my wife's cousin.
Check out Juha Kankkunen in Finland I think it was 1994 outstanding driving! Also the Celica got banned for running too much boost by bypassing the turbo restrictor. Worth looking up as it was a genius piece of engineering
Love your Rally reactions and glad you have discovered the discipline. You are a car guy but I am not sure you know the following. The cars carry a few spare parts in them and the drivers and navigators sometimes need to make impromptu repairs between stages in order to get the cars through the stage between services. They also have to sometimes change wheels if there is a flat or broken rim. It usually takes about 2 min, I believe, so depending on how close the end of stage there are , the decision to drive on the rim or change it is based on that. As I said you are a car guy, so I figured you would find this impressive if you were not aware of this. Keep the reactions coming.
Ian is all rally fanboy now. That's very cool. Personally, rally is far more technical and dangerous than any other mortorsport. These guys drive at the very edge of no control. They allow themselves to let their vehicle slip and slide and then correct the uncontrol to continue driving. It's pure driving.
I wish I was older just so I could have witnessed these live back then, but being born in 92 I'll have to live with that ahahha
Greetings! That green hatchback at 4:52 is a Group N SEAT Ibiza Kit Car, a Spanish car that won several Group N (WRC "second division", 2 litres 16 valves atmospheric engines with FWD and about 280hp) championships back in the 90's
A lot of those subaru shots would've been Colin McCrae - especially the beat up one
At a time, Group A and B existed at the same time. Group A cars were much more like the original production cars and there was a minimum of 2000/year cars produced in order to homologate it. Group B needed only 200 (IIRC).
Group B cars were so unlike the base model that they moved the engine from the front to the back! Some of these were the Renaut 5 Turbo, the Austin Metro and the Lancia Delta S4 (the group B Delta, not the later group A one).
Also, the base models were usually 4 cylinders, these group B ones were 6. The Audi Quattro was a 5 cylinders (but front mounted) and there is also a group B Lancia, previous to the S4, the Lancia 037, which was the last 2WD car to ever win a WRC championship overall (the Quattro coming in close second in that year).
A group B Lancia Delta S4 crashed and burned in the Corsica Rally in 1986, resulting in the death of driver Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto. It had been talked by many that group B cars were too dangerous, and this was the accident that lead to that being the last group B rally ever.
Group A continued to be the top WRC group until 1997. The changes in homologation regulations were minor, compared to group B to A changes, but the "Group A" term was dropped anyway.
The ‘beat’ up Subie’s were driven by Collin Mcrea whose motto was ‘when in doubt go flat out. He was know for rolling his car and still finishing the stage.
9:52 looks like a Nissan Sunny / Pulsar running in the F2 Class.
There was a GTI-R version with turbo and AWD that ran in higher classes.
4:50 - Seat (pronounced say-at) Ibiza Cupra.
One road going version was unofficially made but Seat said “no, decommissioned”.
It ran in the lower 2000cc non turbo class.
It’s basically a VW Polo underneath as Seat is part of the VW Audi Group (VAG) along with Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ducati, Bentley, Porsche, MAN (large trucks), Scania (previously owned by Saab, really nice trucks / big rigs) and many others.
Bugatti and Rimmac are also partners.
Lancia Delta is the craziest car ever made. It should fly or explode, but somehow it rode like a badass. I was in love with it ever since I saw it first. This is a car you can't forget and it had it's place in history.
4:45 That's a 96 Seat Ibiza kit car. I think it's a two liter engine, but people are obsessed with the diesel ones in Portugal and Spain. Those made use of the very famously reliable PD engine. Gas versions of Ibiza (and also Cordoba) were also extremely reliable.
I had a nice Cordoba in the UK, great little cars.
@@Soulvex They are indeed! My father had a 1.4 very reliable and safe
Those small Ford Escorts and Seat Ibizas were surprisingly good competitors considering how much less power they had compared to the bigger cars. They made that up with superior manouverability. When your car is smaller you have more space to work with
The power figures were quite similar in all of the cars, because the rules mandated an intake restrictor. It limited engine power to about 300 hp in the "big" A cars. Of course the engine characteristics would be different with some of the cars having more low and mid range power than others.
That Clio Maxi had really wicked french driver Jean Ragnotti, there are videos only with him in that Clio. From the top of my head, it was F(ront)W(heel)D(rive) or shorter "axle" , engine 2-liter about 260-270 HP naturally aspirated, sequentional 6speed gearbox, limited slip differential (rally cars of that era had mainly mechanical LSDs and because of those, car didn't want to turn normally, and drivers had to throw cars into crazy drifts).
That Gave Me Straight "Colin McRae rallye" on PlayStation vibe !
That Rallye of India was so hard lol
But I loved the Australian Rallye ambiance
Your pronounciation of Lancia is, AFAIK, spot on.
4:32 BMW M3 (wide body)
4:50 Seat Ibiza (same platform as VW Polo)
5:02 Renault Clio
The turbo flutter-noise of the Escort RS2000 is indeed quite similar to the Ur-Quattro. Albeit different engines, turbo-charging works the same way.
The two wings of the RS2000 are stock, interestingly.
In an episode of Wheeler Dealers (UK TV show) they fixed one - and added a third wing.
At first, I thought they are nuts - but it blended in perfectly.
According to the original designer, it was meant to be like that from the get-go but wasn't due to budget constrains.
5:35
There's an old video from a WRC-run in Australia (I think) where the car's throttle-cable snapped.
The copilot gave the pilot a quick rundown of the remaining stage, hopped on the engine and operated the throttle body by hand for the remaining way.
THAT is how crazy rallying can get.
That was Carlos Sainz and his co-pilot Luis Moya? Maybe? New Zealand? IIRC. (BTW, They both are celebrities in Spain, the way Luis Moya "sings" the directions is an universal meme in Spain)
I feel so old watching 90’s rally. My best mate at the time had an older brother who worked for Mitsubishi Rally Art as a lead mechanic. Whenever we could we would tag along to watch.
The creek and river crossings were always hard on the cars.
There used to be a lot of local tally clubs which was always fun building yourself a little four banger buzzbox and hitting the dirt.
1995 rally was iconic between the two teammates in the 555 subaru rally cars, with one Calos Sainz, who's son races in formula 1 in ferrari and Colin Mcrae that went down to the final rally in the UK
and colin is still the better driver, doesnt matter what his win loss ratio is, colin is the goat of rally
That images at 9 min. One Subaru blue One from 555 team it's in Portugal at Fafe stage, that one with the jump, and this peace of tarmac at middle of the stage and is incredible beautiful 🙏🏻
You need to watch Colin Mcrae onboard footage, man was a magician, always flat out and on the very edge. Unfortunately sometimes even a bit over the edge 😅😅
These never get old! Cheers Ian.
Love your channel. Keep up the great work...
Ian , that driving technique approaching a corner is known as "The Scandinavian Flick" [drift racers now copy it]
I had a 93 Subaru legacy and I had it completely kitted out, my all time favorite car from this era of rally
Ian, check out the late Colin McRae. Especially when he rallied Subaru'. In my opinion, the greatest rally driver ever. Although Sébastien Loeb is the most successful.
Walter Röhrl? xD
But yeah, Colin was different like, in my opinion, Walter Röhrl, Sebastian Loeb, Tommi Mäkinen and Ari Vatanen.
5 legends I never forget
Love your rally vids man.
Love the rallye videos! Keep em coming!
Nascar racing on snow like a frozen lake with studded snow tires would be a sight to see....it would truly be Hella awesome...lol
i love your reactions to rally, i've been watching it ever since i can remember, when i was about 5-6 years i remember watching VHS tapes of rally with my best friend, we're still very close today, and that's 24-25 years ago, and i clearly remember the VHS tapes where coloured one was bright green and yellow like the major part of the tape was green and then the little thing you could flip up was yellow, i still love Rally, it's my favorite motorsport.
i also love motorcross, i raced a few years when i was younger, it's great fun!
There is a channel called VHS rallies that has a bunch in case you didn't know!
Have a great day!
It's harder to see in older footage but right above the number on the door, you will see a sticker saying where the rally is!! 😉 my uncle was a rally driver and drove Subaru's, I grew up in the 90s so I automatically love the Subaru's. Great reaction mate. From down under
Earlier this year, Ken Block and his co-driver released a video on how Rally pace notes work ... might be interesting. I enjoyed it.
Hi there! As always, an entertaining react video... I notice that you are often astonish by one guy, but you don't know his name or his car, so i can give you a hand: his name is Jean Ragnotti, he drove for Renault for 50 years, in rallye, but also in circuit... There are lot of videos about him on youtube (also onboard videos...). I can't wait for the next video... Bye!
I think the reason why you love the sound of those old Subarus is because unconsciously it kind of reminds you of the V8 sound. ; )
I fell in love with the 555 Subarus the first time I saw them in rally. Prior to that I thought the car was all hype. I'd have bought one back then if I'd been rich enough. Beasts.
Colin McRae's driving helped a bit too. Lol
@@Alberthoward3right9up Well, yeah :)
@Jus Cals Yep. I've had the pleasure of either owning or regularly driving early models and others. Foresters, WRXes, and hatchbacks. I learned that Foresters will go most places a regular 4WD will go but you need to rev high and dump them because they just won't crawl up a hill. You need to give them some throttle. I am a bit of an idiot, so I've put Foresters in places that Foresters weren't designed to go...
@@BradGryphonn we went places in an old sportswagon that would scare off most hilux drivers. The little buggers will go anywhere as long as you don't belly them out or bury them up to the axles in soft mud.
@@Alberthoward3right9up True that. I've driven a Sportswagon too. Great cars. Yeah, clearance and mud (and deep sand) are their Achilles heel. I pulled a camping trailer up a steep, rutted gravel hill that a Landcruiser with no extra weight struggled to climb. Difference was, that I had to keep the momentum and revs up. They tend not to 'walk' up rough hills like a low range cruiser will do.
The Lancia Delta was awesome. Huge grunt....
Little bit of Western Australia in there when we had a round of the WRC. 2:04, 5:15, 8:33
The cameraman at 8:07 is a mate of mine.... got some great pics that day.... He was OK...
They had a stage in Perth with two tracks which basically created a drag race between two cars over a rally course.
Did he make it ? 8:15 no ^^ (it is just funny, hope i am not mean in any way for your friend :))
The small yellow car that almost goes down the cliff from the helicopter is a Seat Ibiza (Seat is a Spanish car company own by Volkswagen). There are a few other cars that apear once in this video, the blue and white "screamin" car is a Peugeot 306 and the last car that drift up to the podium i believe is a Skoda.
The 90s best pilots must be Colin McCrae with the blue 555 subaru, and Tommi Makinen with the red and white mitsubishi evo.
Fun fact, the Toyota Team Europe were disqualified from the 1995 and 1996 WRC season due to cheating, the fitted a mechanisim that nullifies the turbo restrictor plate in order to gain boost advantage among other cars.
Greetings from Argentina.
14:16 so cool, that the ford guy is warning the subaru driver
The green car was (still is) a Seat Ibiza, Seat is a Spanish company under the VW umbrella that makes some cool sporty hatchbacks. There's a spinoff subsidiary called Cupra that makes the sportier versions of the Ibiza and Leon. :) Had one Ibiza, miss the thing.
6:20 Renault Clio I Maxi, F2 Kit Car, FWD
8:23 Renault Megane MAXI I, F2 Kit Car, FWD.
16:03 Skoda Felicia 1.6 Kit Car, the last Model Skoda engineered themself. After that the much bigger Octavia was send to the WRC and after VW bought Skoda, the Felicia was replaced by the Fabia. The Fabia however Shares his Platform with the VW Polo and Seat Ibizia.
Ice Racing? OH YES PLEASE, Trophee Andros.
Think i have also seen Seat Ibiza at one place he said he doesn't know the car.
I'm pretty sure the Escort is a Cosworth. Legendary machine. I'm glad Ken block brought it back to rally.
about the watercrossings, I recall a few rallies where they had to run snorkels back then, and others where the co-driver would pull a lever to block the water coming into the airbox
It is unbelievable how they beat those cars over the "track". Absolutely no mercy for the car.
That water flood was a river in Australia 96, several cars got stuck inside it.
That wavy thing you spoke of is called a Scandinavian flick. They developed it years ago.
The "wavy" entry to the corner is called the Scandinavian flick.
I noticed the commentary when the car hit the fence at the cattle great is definitely Aussie motor sports commutator.
The yellow car and the grey Renault are Kit cars they were front wheel drive around 300hp and light as hell and on tarmac, faster than the WRC cars of the day. Most famous is the Peugeot 306 Maxi kit car. 300+hp fwd 11-12k rpm redline. You should do a reaction on those if you can.
Look into a driver called Colin McRae, he was one of the most aggressive drivers to ever take up rally, terming the saying "if in doubt go flat out!" He was known for crashing and carrying on the rally with a busy up car lol
now, that you discovered the world of rally, learned quite a bit of its history trough videos of different classes, groups and championships, manage even to recognize makes and models of rally cars you normally wouldn't even hear of in US (a great respect for that from europe) and learned to genuinely appreciate rally as a sport, it might be time to learn a thing or two about the greatest drivers..... check out guys like Walter Rohrl, Hannu Mikkola, Ari Vatanen, Miki Biasion, Stig Blomquist, Carlos Sainz, Juha Kankunen, Tomi Makkinen, Colin McRae, Peter Solberg, Marcus Gronholm.... and of couse, the "gods" of last two decades... Sebastien Loeb and Sebastien Ogier!
That lime green car is a seat Ibiza. It's a Spanish brand for rebadged VWs.
The car in the minute 4:47 is a Seat Ibiza WRC, is a Spanish car and I love it...
Fun fact : sometimes when they get stuck or being on the roof, the public helped them to continue By moving them together.
G'day Ian mate, the beat up cars behind them was Fred Flintstones running his leg's off to get number one spot, top vid mate 👍🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘
Every other motorsports approach to fans: put them safely behind crash barriers
Rallys approach to fans: Reflex training
How freaking cool you know where Bunnings is!!!! Love the channel, keep it coming and I want a Delta too.
A pleasure as always
P.S. Ford Escort Rallye Vers. in Forza Horizon 5.....Awesome
I was born in 1986, so was too young to watch Group B first-hand, but 90s/2000s WRC was my era. The cars seemed attainable but were a decent size and all seemed to be quite robust with a bulldog spirit. Wheras the Group B cars were exotic with their hyped-up turbos and superchargers, huge wings and competition specials, these 90s and 00s cars just seemed tougher and beefier, like off-road musclecars. To me, the current era cars are just too small and pedestrian to get excited about. The Cosworth Escort was legendary, along with the Impreza and Evo.
The Lancia Delta Integrale is the greatest rally car of all time! It won the world championship for five consecutive years. By 1995 its winning streak was over, though.
Since you are falling deep into the rally rabbit hole you need to watch a clip/compilation of Colin McRae in 1991 and 1992 he won the British rally champion ship and in 1995 he won the world rally champion ship being the only British and youngest ever driver todo so! He sadly passed away in 2007 in a helicopter crash 1 mile from his family home in Scotland.
To answer your questions: depends if water comes in the airfilter, The Lancia is exactly the same as the street legal car you mentioned (if it was an EVO), It's a Ford Escort WRC, BMW M3 E30, SEAT Ibiza (VW-group), Peugeot 106 Rallye, the yellow one is also a Ford Escort WRC, another SEAT IBIZA. Also look up Collin McRae. We (my employer) actually did research on the engine block of the Ford Focus cars he drove in. Happy to be of service.
Bunnings signs from the Telstra Rally Australia. Loved watching the super special stages live on tv here in Melbourne. The red dirt of Western Australia.
The Ford you are watching is the sierra Cosworth, it's a 4 cylinder turbo awd 500 hp race and rally car..
One won Bathurst..
Another won the Australian rally championship..
If I ever win the lottery, the first 2 cars I'm buying are a Ford RS200 and a Cosworth Escort. Been my two favorite cars since I was a kid. Love the Delta as well.
The heavy mud rally clips are mostly Kenyan Safari Rally during the time. Was a very tough run for the cars, leave alone the drivers
Those clips with the cars on the mudd equiped with snorkels were in the safari rallye in africa one of the most brutal rallyes conditionwise
The name for the yellov/green car, you ask for is a seat ibiza.
Vw with Italien body design...
Love your videos...
4:47 = SEAT IBIZA.
A special category named "Kit-Cars" was a sub category to the old "A Group" in 90s.
The group A cars obviously had less power, a bit over 300 hp I believe, but were also more closely related to road going versions compared to group B cars or their modern counterparts. The body shell came from a production car, and suspension travel was limited. They were also quite a bit heavier than group B, which were a tubular chassis covered with fiberglass and Kevlar... Engines were 2 litre turbocharged.
This was, and still is my favorite era of rallying. This is what I grew up watching, and the cars were somehow more relatable, because they weren't that far from the road going versions. Group B and Rally1 cars only share a similar appearance with production models. Other than that, they are bespoke racers.
My favourite car from this era was the Toyota Celica with Juha Kankkunen behind the wheel. Nowadays, I really like the Subaru Impreza, too.
Ford escort rs cosworth, awesome iconic rally car, worth a lot of money now,it's the car we dreamed if when we were young lads. You also got the Ford Sierra cosworth
So Group As biggest difference from earlier and later generations of racing both in Rally and Touring Cars is they were actually homologation based. Manufacturers had to release and produce/sell minimum numbers of the cars that were being raced and they had to be fairly close to the production car.
Its one of the greatest eras for racing and for car enthusiasts. Nissan Skyline GTR and Pulsar GTiR, BMW M3, Mercedes 190e 2.3(Cosworth engine, raced mainly in DTM), Ford Sierra and Escort Cosworths and RSs, Lancer Evos, Subaru WRX which lead to the STi, Toyota Celica GT-FOUR and Lancia Delta Integrale just off the top of my head came from these rules
gday IAN hows it going, back in the day these guys raced at night with no change in speed or slides etc.any cars you see with light bars & spot lights gives you a clue not sure if it happens today, flames from exhaust red hot brakes,a sight to see.keep up the good work mate.

You have to check out rally cross, those cars are insane. The sound of the antilag at the start is just pure music. And these are some tough(?) cars, sometimes they will finish with one or two wheels missing. And it’s a full contact sport. There is so much going on in such a small timeframe, simply insane.
Later addition; they race 5/6 laps and each car has to do one “joker” lap, which most of the time is a second or two slower which makes the racing quite interesting.
Seat Ibiza was the small one, and the white had a little red star , this was a mitsubishi Evo, the yellow is an old Ford Fiesta.
In the WRC the Winnig Car does get on the Podium too not only the drivers.
Good video. The unknow green car is a Seat model Ibiza Kit Car rally category. Seat Spanish EU car brand from VW group with Auidi and Skoda. Seat in this time have a Cupra version of all your models, the sime as Hyndai iN or Mercedez AMG, but now is a separate brand (Cupra). Seat in english mean Asiento o Silla in spanish xdddd :)). Gotta love these older rally clips
That was fun Ian 😂
The yellow car at 4:48 is a Seat Ibiza (pronounced "Say-At Abeetha") and the white Ford is an Escort RS Cosworth, it's signature being that huge 'whale tail' rear spoiler. A car I dreamed of owning as a kid as even the road going versions were cool! That drift onto the podium by the Skoda was probably deliberate just to celebrate the moment!
That ford was the Ford Escort RS Cosworth. It's the rally son of the Sierra RS500 Cosworth . The rally version originates back to the 80's mid-engine group B monster RS200 Cosworth but once Group B was abolished they used a RS500 Sierra chassis and running gear with an escort body until a new 4wd system was put in for the RS2000 4x4. They rallied like that until the Focus. This was Fords greatest motorsport era's since the GT40 days I reckon bro. On road, rally and track they were winning all over the world.
This era of rallying made me fall in love with the Subaru Impreza WRX. It’s still my drive car to own.
G'day Ian mate, all the beat up cars Fred Flintstones was right behind them running his
The old 555 Subie livery is my favourite, having been a WRX owner in the past. Probably like the Toyo Castrol livery second best.
the awesome thing about group A and rally of the era, they had to use the same body frame as the stock car, so you could buy a cheap pos and put worldbeating parts into it to make your own monster.
It was EPIC!
Fun fact about the Celica, they got banned for a while because they did some tomfoolery that made the car way more powerful than it should be with some little mechanical pins and whatever so that under inspection, they would be making appropriate power but during racing conditions, it would be way faster. This was a _huge_ scandal at the time.
2:11 N6 MRE="Tommi Makinen", and 2:27 L 555 BAT was the legend, the goat, the one and only, Colin Mcrae!
The last one sliding to the podium was Škoda Felicia. ;-)
The reason you hear hor is to warn the crowds to get of road as car approaching
Pretty sure done by officials
