1.36 NSU Prinz (orange) and Renault 8 Gordini (blue)
2.26 Affa GTV and Alfa 75
3.41 Fiat Ritmo (Abarth, probably)
5.20 MG B
6.06 Lancia Fulvia, looks super old and small (The V4 sounds lovely)

About the twin engined DAF trucks in the Paris Dakar rally.
1:59 I guess Ferrari 308 GTS or 328 GTS
5:30 Subaru Impreza WRX
Are you sure that First car wasn't a DINO ? Sure looked like one . Sounded like it too .
@@johncunningham4820 Definitely an Alpine.
With this beautiful cars, childhood is awakened again.
@@johncunningham4820 Alpine Renault 110, definitely. It does look almost as good as a Dino though. 😉
1:31 Renault 8 Gordini (souped up special, very collectible rare car, engine in the back )
1:38 Ford Falcon Sprint (same tech as the Ford Mustang but actually leighter, was also used in touring car races back in the 60's)
1:59 Ferrari 308 GTB (V8 3.0L)
4:20 Mitsubishi Lancer 2000 turbo (8valve, rear wheel drive)
5:24 MG-B (with factory hardtop)
5:58 Ford Escort mk1 (extremely popular rally car back in the early 70's , this is probably a RS2000 or a Mexico, the HOT models were the cars with the 16V BDA engines)
6:06 Lancia Fulvia HF (it has a cool V4 engine with only 1 cylinder head, much like a VW VR6 engine, very succesful frontwheel drive rally car back in the day)
6:40 Renault 5 Alpine (in north America this car was named the LeCar.) a famous french rallydriver, Jean Ragnotti, really knew how to husstle this car around. One of the best front wheel drive rally car drivers ever.
6:45 BMW 2002Ti (because the color is Colorado orange, only available on the Ti. Zippy car, 1000kg and 120hp.)
My father had an R5 turbo in the 1980s. 160 hp at an unladen weight of 980 kg were a real hit at the time. The thing was scary.
6:40 I can hear the turbo so I think it is a r5 alpine turbo. And to be factual, Ragnotti was known for driving a r5 turbo (maxi) which is not the same car (rwd with central engine). He also drove some fwd but more like clio (maxi)
Are you sure for the Ford Falcon ?
I see myself a Galaxy 500, but i may be wrong..
At 7.14 it's look like a alfa Romeo 147 gta v6 busso
The Renault Gordini! One of my favorite vintage rally cars, not many things in the world as fun as a noisy RWD shoebox lol
Renault 8 Gordini.... because it existed Renault 12 and Dauphine Gordini and modified 10
That’s a RR car like 911
@Le Mister J not Italian. Amédée Gordini, the founder is french naturalized Italian man. But Gordini is french firm. And Renault property now.
@Le Mister J it's the same way to say Abarth is Austrian firm or Bugatti is Italian or German firm.
@@briegleruyet4139 not the same thing, the Gordini brand has always been french and stayed french when Renault acquired it.
The first one is an Alpine A-110. The blue one at 1:34 is a Renault 8 Gordini, I think.
ruclips.net/video/4Gg7pENZg8s/видео.html Testdrive Renault 8 Gordini with some nice sound
Yup
The super old, red and black car at 6:04 is another legendary Lancia, the FULVIA. It won a WRC in early 70's
You'd be surprised to know that the Ferrari 308 actually had a Group 4 rally version, and later even a Group B version (you know Group B very well by now), and was successful in the early 80s, and is still quite a popular classic supercar in rallies (not on the same level as the Stratos or old 911s but decently popular). Also, one of the most iconic Ferraris ever made, the 288 GTO, was also conceived as a Group B car. Not a rally car per se, but it was still made with Group B competition in mind, which involved rallies.
The NSU Prinz was the first car I got on when my parents picked me up at the hospital.
My little brother went in a Ro 80... I have some memories of both cars. 200 something kilometer per hour on the Autobahn...
Hope not in a Prinz. They would start to lift the front above 90km
@@robertwillis4061 don't tell my mother. She still regrets dumping this car!
That 80's lancer was something special
The sound of these cars is a feast for the ears.
I can't listen to the sounds of F1 anymore but rallying, racing? I love the roar of engines and exhausts.
This is probably my favorite type of video because the variety of cars is large. It is pleasing to the eyes and ears. Thanks and please do more!
1:33 The orange car was an NSU Prinz. The Prinz was a passenger car model of the German NSU Motorenwerke AG and was built in different variants from 1958 to 1973.
yesn abd this one was a "Prinz TT" Gr.2
NSU later became part of Audi
TTS?

I owned a Renault R8 Gordini as a steet car/daily driver back around 1989.
I have owned 2 MGBs , one a 64 sold 2 years ago and currently a 1963. ( I have owned 30 Brit cars)
Only Porsche I owned was a 1953 Bent Window Coupe back around 1965.
I owned a 1974 M-B 450 SL (I am a former M-B of No America factory rep Nor Calif. region)
STRATOS and the ALPINE..... the Best.
Excellent video.
The first One is a Alpine A110 1600S or 1800Gr4, The Alpine A110 won two world rally championship in 1971 (1600S) and in 1973 (1800Gr4). The 1600S was given for about 150hp and up to 200hp for the 1800Gr4 for 700kg at most. This car is a true racing legend in France and in Europe. Still very popular in Japan too
The blue one with 2 white stripes at 1.30 is a Renault R8 Gordini a legend for car racers in France, in the 60's and the 70's Gordini was the official preparer of Renault sport (Rally, 24h du Mans,…) a bit like AMG for Mercedes!
The first car , bad ass, was the famous Renault Alpine
Winner of several Monte Carlo and many other Rallies.
They still make a more civilized version of the good old brutal Alpine.
Love the old Alpine A110 (1st car we see in the Video).
It got a revival few years ago, and Gendarmerie's highway patrols have these :)
Slick sexy cars.
Awesome reaction Ian, what I love about your reactions is there is never ever any hate towards any car manufacturers even if you have no idea what the car is, if it has wheels and an engine you love it, that shows how much of a genuine petrol head you really are.. Keep up the awesome work, you and you're whole family are amazing and awesome 👍👍 Hella lots of love from Wales UK🏴🏴
2:42 Alfa Romeo 75 "America" or "Quadrifoglio"(An America with catalytic converter) recognizable by the grille and the black parts on the side of the bumper (American standard) to absorb shocks....
It had a 3.0L V6 (some call it Busso) with a divine sound (pistons inclined at 60°)
You got most of them right.
I loved to view these videos. Not so much now.
Me and my good buddy used to have some beers, and watching these videos.
The first car is a Alpine A110 from the 70s if i remember correctly, not sure if it's a 70, 72 or 73 but if i had the money. It would already be in my garage haha (only downside is that i'm 6.7ft tall 😆)
And bytheway.. the car in the thumbnail is a Renault R8 Gordini.. my grandfather used to have a normal R8
@@Dutchy1997 Mine too...
1:37 ... Long, wide, can't turn to save itself but it has a big engine... Must be American!
The blue one with white stripe was a Renault R8 Gordini and the one before the BMW 2002 was a Renault 5
OMG 5:20 you said it near perfect, Folks-vahgen ;-)
Ahhh i love french rally cars.
Had a stove hot renault 10.
am pretty sure at 5:25 that is an MG, MGB
Love the sound of the 5 - banger AUDI's the best . A unique sound .
The first Alfa was a GTV, the second was a Alfa 75 I believe( The Malaysian police used them as patrol cars ). Yes, that was a Ferrari. I have an old diecast toy Ferrari I bought in the 80s with Rally lights mounted on the hood.
It´s right, An Alfa Romeo alfetta GTV 2.0 and then the 75 3.0 V6 America (it´s called America because the bumpers with the USA homologation at the time)
1:37 Michael Bruns/Gunter Meierer with their Ford Falcon Sprint (1964).
2:38 Alfa Romeo 75 - 20 yrs ago my friend bought that same Alfa used, as his first car. He got one that had been in a heated garage and only was driven on saturdays for groceries. It was owned by an elderly lady who couldn't drive, so she had it just so a friend of hers could drive her when she needed to shop. It was mint condition andd we gave it a beating like it never had in its entire life when he got it! :D
Alfasud sprint was fwd with flat four engine. Wonderful too.
2:28 This car is an Alfa Romeo GTV, the coupè version of the Alfa Romeo Alfetta (thanks to @fugawiaus for the error notification). The GTV was produced between 1974 and 1986.
2:41 This car is an Alfa Romeo 75, probably a 3.0 V6 America. The Alfa Romeo 75 was produced between 1985 and 1993 with several engines. Two of these engines, 1.8 Turbo and 3.0 V6 will be used also for the american version of this car, the Alfa Romeo Milano.
3:42 This car is a Fiat Ritmo. The Legend of the Lancia Delta was from this car, that used in the rally the same mechanic of the Fiat 131, while the Delta used 2.0 Lampredi turbo Engine with a 4WD system created from the 4WD of the Delta S4.
6:12 This car is a Lancia Fulvia Coupé HF, produced between 1965 and 1974, replaced then by the Lancia Stratos. This Fulvia is the sport version of the coupè version of the Lancia Fulvia.
I'm shocked, someone with a name "Luigi" got an alfa wrong! hehe.
GTV had the flat bonnet so just the 2l 4cyl not the V6.
@@fugawiaus Could happen that everyone who loves Alfa make errors while seeing what correct model is. I didn't saw the hood was completely flat.

Great hearing and seeing such lovely cars.
Maybe next you could react to a vintage car show from Europe. As a child, I vent to a couple of them with my dad. Super cool to see the different types of cars. Usually they’d also have American vintage cars. I think they called them floaters, bc they looked like they “floated” when driving down the road.
As Petrolicious perfectly put it - "You don't drive an Alpine, you wear it"
on la pilote, pas qu'on la porte l'ami ah ah ah!!!!
Historic rallying is now more popular than ever and gaining popularity year on year. The fundamental is that as you can see here the variety of cars competing is very wide, whereas in todays WRC the cars all look the same with disruptive camouflage paint schemes hiding any subtle differences, the rules are even written to assist this anonymity. If you can recognise the cars you can recognise the heros. Even when foucus was on the ultimate performance as in Group B, the variety was still there and an Audi Quatro Sport could be easily distinguished from a Peugeot 205 T16 and a Metro 6R$ for example, whatever the paint scheme.
Most obscure car in the video is the Musang :D Funny how you instantly recognize that one :D

Alpine A110 is like a Porsche: rwd with rear engine behind the rear wheels. But beam frame. When Jean Redele , the founder created Alpine, he used Renault parts that he sold and when Porsche created 356 based on Beetle, Redele based his car on Renault 4CV, a small sedan with rwd and behind rear wheels engine. Alpine won the first World Rally championship as builder in 1973. But there was no wrc before. But won so many races. And wrc for pilots didn't exist but do many alpine pilots could win it if it was exist. Alpine is Renault group brand. Race in endurance and won some categories in le Mans. It's now a formula 1 team too and sell the New A110. It's the alpine engineers who created first Renault turbo formula one ancestor, Renault 5 turbo, all modern sport version of Renault 's road cars with Renault sport. And created A108, A310, GTA, A610, Renault spider models. It's legend.
When I was a kid I used to go watch those cars as the rallye would pass through my village. When he was younger, my father used to drive an R8 Gordini like the one at 1:35, it was in the 70s. Really fun times were had watching those cars.
First one is Alpine A110, the french Porsche. Multichampion in rally 70's.
Just love the Stratos!!! Unfortunately, I don’t fit in them...
That first one is, as mentioned by Lynott Parris below/above, an Alpine 110, Alpine is a sports car maker, but became part of the Renault group. The 110 is rear (Renault 4cyl) engined, fibreglass bodied, and has a top reputation in the rally world. They made a later model as well, which I think was more mid/rear engine. And now produce an update on the original 110 shape and style which looks absolutely super hot! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobiles_Alpine
Later cars, you may not have recognised, not necessarily in order, include my fave, a Mk1 Ford Escort (5:54), (I've owned 2 in the past) a Renault 8 Gordini preceded by n NSU Prinz (I think), and I think that was a Fiat Strada following the Quattro, Ford Galaxy (?), Ferrari 308, Alfa Romeo GTV (badge on rear quarter), Alfa 75 (made in '85 😕), Mercedes SL350 (or 450?), MG B at 5:24, Lancia 1300/Fulvia, Renault 5 (Gordini?), good fun!
Shame the never put into production the anniversary concept Alpine A110-50
There was no R5 Gordini. But there was an R5 Alpine (93hp) launched in 1976. An R5 Turbo (I and II) and there was an R5 Alpine Turbo, with 108hp, straight from the factory. And these cars offered an excellent platform to tease out even more performance...
@@melchiorvonsternberg844 There was a Renault 5 Gordini, it was UK spec RHD, elsewhere it was named the Alpine. The reason for the name change was a UK manufacturer (Sunbeam) already owned the Alpine model name.
@@iwb316 That is sufficiently clarified. But then I would be interested to know whether the car had the stylized G from Gordini on the valve cover or, like on the continent, the lettering Alpine. Btw. I had two of them in my 20's...
@@melchiorvonsternberg844 My friend bought 1 new in around 1979/80. It was the na model not a turbo, I can't remember anything standing out about the valve covers. A quick search on the renaultsport club forum and I found an article, it shows a picture of the engine with only the wording RENAULT on the valve cover (also a 1979 na model).
The little tiny square hatchback was a Renault 5, and the one you said you thought was an escort… correct 👍🏻
It was called 'Le Car' over there.

Wasn't minec- i worked for a jag garagecat the time.
The bmw m3 was quick as well.
Love the old Escort at 5:54, the first car my family got in Australia in 1970 was that shape Escort (but 4 door automatic) and I learned to drive in it. The Galaxie looked rather out of place.
Thst's not a Galaxie; its more like a Falcon Sprint.
The original Golf GTI was a beast of its time - could get em up over 220km/h. just stock. And most I talked to claimed 240km/h was more lioke the actual top speed
The "Little Blue" that we see in still image in presentation of your video and at 01:35 is a Renault 8 Gordini, mythical French car of the 60s. R8 won the Rally of Morocco, the Rally of Macao, the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps between 1966 and 1969 and the "Corsica Tour" three times, as well as multiple rallies outside of the WRC.
I had a ride in a back seat of a Renault Gordini once, insane little motor based on the same chassis as a Renault Alpine if I remember right.
The Renault 8, the Gordini is based on, was even offered in the states, back in the days. No kidding..
I can't wait for the BTCC. Mid 90s BTCC was the best racing series in the world
Alfa GTV and 75 are the same frame. Front engine RWD with transaxle Gear with great engines: bialbiero with the best : turbo version and twin spark version. It was équipped with pre VANOS or VTEC système...sort of....and V6 arese also called busso. Wonderful.

Great footage..
I really hate the fact that we will not get new cars anymore that give us goosebumps, just by hearing them
The bright orange Jagermeister livery is from classic DTM racing. Some real BEASTS of cars.
Seeing they made just less than 500 Lancia Stratos that was a good turn out.
Renault r8 gordini very cool cars 4 wheel discs under driven top gear and s self centring steering rack so easy to drive very light I raced an r10 in the 90s ,the alpine a110 was built using r8 and 10 parts with composite body two cool cars with race connections
The first car, Alpine a110, won the first wrc title in 73.
i love the fact even if you dont know the brand you can guess almost right all the times ^^
Most of these cars are worth too much to be hammering the road.
Or not expensieve enough. When those more expensive old race cars of about half or 1 million crash they don't lose value, it's all about the orginal chassis. So if you pay tha half a million repair bill, you have your valuable old race car back.
They're not worth anything if you can't use them as intended!
I live near one of the richest communities in Europe, and next to the Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren, ... dealerships there's one that specifically deals in exclusive cars. Yes because those brands aren't exclusive enough... They specialize in specific cars, not just makes or models. You can walk in there and ask for a race winning Le Mans car from the 60s or the personal car Enzo Ferrari drove. It's where people go to find a car for the Mille Miglia, the most beautiful and exclusive rally in the world. Roadrally is where competition is measured by when teams arrive at precisely-measured checkpoints set up along the rally route where the exact arrival time has been calculated based on the designated average speeds. Penalty points are assigned if a team arrives at a checkpoint late or early. The further off the time, the more points the team gets and when the time comes to hand out trophies - the lowest score wins. You really should check out some Mille Miglia videos.
To explain Gordini or TT: rwd with rear engine. Renault was sold in US. We see it cousin Renault 10 in Starsky and Hutch in one episode.

The Alpine A110 was available in the US at the time I don't know if it was officially or a private company who imported some from the Mexican plant. A convertible version was made and marketed for the Mexican market only, they are ultra rare.
On a side note the A110 stopped winning when Lancia released the Stratos.
G'day Ian. At 1:36 is a Ford Falcon Sprint from the US around 63 or 64 built. 260 or 289 V8 with lots of lightweight panels.
I understand the Falcon Sprint was fastest on every stage when it ran back then but did not win the rally over small engines Mini Cooper S cars. The rules had a handicap system that took the win off large engines cars

In the late 70's and the early 80's there was teams which used Ferraris because Ferraris are fast and in the 60's don't forget that the 250 GTO was an unbeatable car everywhere (the 250 GTO won the mille miglia and this is a rally)
in the early 80's Ferrari try to create a car to run in group B (the 288 GTO) but the group B was canceled before they could run and Ferrari decided to transform the car into the...F40
2:35 ho!!! my brother's car (he had exactely the same alfa 75)
this liitle blue one on the photo is a Simca 1300 ,a french brand that later becomes Talbot before they died:
. but the other small car in front of it is aNSU , a former german brand that later becomes AUDI!
When the audi 4x4s came in to rallying the lancia stratos and beta's were the only 2wd's to beat them , the beta's were massively successful but all but gone now. A bad era for Italian steel but a great one for their engineering. Cool reaction mate
the one and only Lancia ever beat a 4WD Audi was the 037 ...
@AMIGABLUEBIRD Argh! You are completely right, I was confusing the stratos with the 037, but I'm sure I read that the first year lancia ran the 037 the team held the beta's back in the last two stages to let the 037 take the overall win which made me think the beta's must've been beating the quatros too. But again you are dead right about the 037.
the green car around 5:25 fwd (#141), I think that is may be an MG (and someone else has mentioned an MG-B below) but I wonder from the sound whether is is a V8 version? I know that there were some produced. It will be a custom hard top I think. Anyway, ghastly car to drive as the wheelbase was too long :-) So says an Abarth owner!
Eventually I'm going to take a mini cooper to one of these things
Whenever anyone pronounces Porsche with and A at the end, a Porsche engineer sheds a tear.
Not only a Porsche engineer....
the first car is the very famous renault alpine a 310
No, it's not!
G'day Ian. Missed from most of these comments is the US Falcon Sprint at 1:37.
In the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally the Falcon was fastest on every stage but the anti big engine handicap system of the French organisers made sure the Falcons could not win.
So a rally system where the fastest car may not always win.
A recent vid staged recreation of the 1964 event had a Mini Cooper pass the leading Falcon which never happened in the event. So creating fake history for those that preferred it.
The real winning move was paper calculations to discount the Falcon Sprint times. Not so exciting way to win a rally.
the roads are open to the public, that's why you see some modern cars.
Classic Rallying is fun because most "Histo-rallies" are run with the cars meant to meet a certain time, rather than "who's the fastest".
Often you get drivers still going all-out, and then CRAWLING the last few meters to get their average down to the desired area.
the blue car nb 39 is a Renault super 5
Hey man, i think you should check out Isle of Man TT and especially Guy Martin. He won pikes peak, isle of man tt several times, and he is a truck mechanic. Good video as always
