    The F40 LM was truly a fast, raw, unrefined monster. It didn't win very much because it often caused its drivers to make sudden mistakes, mostly when the huge boost from the turbos kicked in. Even F1 world champion Nico Rosberg once said that the scariest car he'd ever driven was an F40. That says A LOT.

    • @hongthainguyen5334
      @hongthainguyen5334 2 месяца назад

      I think Rosberg was only driving a normal F40, this thing has at least 1.5x the power.

    There was a Ferrari dealership near where I used to work in Manchester. For about two months they had an F40 in the showroom. I used to take a twenty minute detour on my walk to and from work just so I could look at it. It's not just a sports car, it's THE sports car.

    Saw this video first through Instagram, MAN WHAT A FUCKING SOUND. When the turbo "chokes" going through those medium range rpm's is pure eargasm. Another onboard to HEAR is the Johnny Herbert tribute lap around LeMans in the 787B, oh man those downshifts are wicked. I'd put the Quattro S1 E2, the 787B and the F40LM as the best sounding cars EVER. Of course V10 F1 cars sound amazing, but c'mon these cars achuieve this at less than half of the rpm's...

    • @bigolbootycheeks9138
      @bigolbootycheeks9138 2 года назад +3

      The 787 sounds better than the 5 banger and the Ferrari. They both are up there in the best noises ever to come from a car, but I dunno if anything takes down the Mazda. Hearing them in person will probably always be my favorite automotive experience ever. 3 4 rotors doing hot laps...

To be at the wheel of a 1971 V12 E-Type, on a track like Le Mans or in its native Britain at Silverstone would be absolutely Glorious. My second choice would have to be a 1969 Dino Ferrari at Monza. I've been around these at track days many, many times over the years and the design and noises just never get old. No traction control, no power steering, I don't believe it even has power brakes. The spring rates are crazy so it rides like an old horse wagon ridiculously hot inside from the radiators and the turbo lag is just awful...but Lord have mercy...what a sexy combination!

    Jacque Lefitte is the driver. Surprised he didnt let the car warm up. Ferrari transmissions are notorious for running like crap until they are warm. Mine does in the TR until its warm , i must skip 2nd gear and go into 3rd gear until the trans is warm. That F40LM is a monster. OR , the trans has "straight cut gears" and that is toughhhhh to drive.

      And mate, if you ever come to the Goldie in Queensland, just up the road is Ipswich where the Willowbank raceway is. I'll float a suggestion by you which might turn into something for you. The raceway is home to the V8 supercar challenge where you go to learn from instructors in past supercars used in the races and serviced regimentally for safety and they bend your mind throwing you round the track teaching you how to drive the track before unleashing you on the track to kick the crap out of the car yourself and you know how to drive the track. Do a series in a tour of the tracks of Australia learning them from some of the best drivers in the world in businesses that exist on all our tracks on your channel. Plus you get to play with some real muscle on tracks you'll have learnt to drive for real. I only ask you start at Willowbank. It's my home track. My home track used to be in Carrara on the Goldie on the airfield that used to exist here. I had a te Cortina wagon long wheelbase with a 4.1 crossflow 6 with the heads from a 3.6 to increase the torque and geared for acceleration. You'll get me eventually but I'll gap you in the meantime. My ex brother in law built a speedway car same as mine but a sedan. Mine was lower and wide tyre to keep as much rubber on the ground as I could, twin side drafts, extractors to 3 inch pipes with a hot dog muffler and nothing else to impede airflow all the way to the back and semi stiff adjustable suspension, bigger brakes. Rear seats down on futon mattress in the back for popping the boot open to watch the drive in screen. But mostly because I needed the extra weight over the rear axle to give me some rear downforce there because power to weight was pretty good and I didn't like spinning the tires as you loose traction you need. But my first ute was a Holden HQ ute with a 307 Cleveland 20 thou overbore sleeved and a 4 barrel Rochester feeding the juice into my 11 second quarter monster. Again geared lower end and I destroyed 3 boxes with That engine. Those 2 cars are my regrets

    That guy is Jacques Laffite. Your typical 70-80 F1 driver: great guy, quite cheeky, didn't take himself that seriously out of the race car! Met him at the 24h of Chamonix (ice racing). He explained once that during the oil crisis in the seventies, he had to steal gas from someone's car to frive to his next F1 race (possibly Monaco).

    G'day Ian, you should watch a short movie called "The Rendezvous". It's a quick blast through the streets of Paris, in the early morning. Love the vids.

    It's nice to see that there are some Americans who are really interested in motorsport and not only care about the V8!
    V8 NASCAR engine is hell, then the V10 F1 engine is heaven! I can only recommend watching videos about this. (and from 1995 Ferrari 412T2 V12. The most incredible-sounding V12 race car, unique in that only Ferrari used a 3L V12 engine and only in 95 in this form! Before that, cars from 89 onwards ran on 3.5L V8/V10 or V12 engines, but they didn't have such high revs, so they didn't have such a high and powerful sound!)

    I hope you see this.
    Please check out some old footage of Ayrton Senna at Suzuka Racing around in Honda Civic Racing Cars.
    It’s a Japanese Video and they are talking about his unique style.
    He has no helmet and loafers on his feet driving one handed like a beast.
    Edit: the footage of him wearing loafers is Senna driving an NSX-R at Suzuka.
    He was probably wearing them in the Civic footage too.

    Only 15 of those LM cars made I believe.
    But.. for me, the RUF Yellowbird around the Nordschleife was the pinnacle of driving a road car. And that is a car you can put on the road.
    The F40 LM from factory is not for the road. 2 have been adapted to be allowed on the public roads.
    Check out the video of guy who drove his Ferrari around the streets of Paris way back in the day.

    Being such an old clip the audio is terrible too. Not saying it wasnt awesome. Haven’t seen one with LM but newer F40 clips show they have much more turbo noise than this. But still have the awesome engine sound. I can only imagine an LM with bigger turbos and open exhaust and intakes would sound even better.

    This would have been an easy sunday afternoon drive for this guy! He wasn't pushing the car at all. Driving as the sun comes up means the car will actually go faster! Here's a bit of science, Cold morning air is more dense so your getting more air into the engine giving it more power.

    @IWrocker, please react to the GOAT Senna's Suzuka 1989 last three laps video on RUclips. Perfect illistration of how the drivers had to fight their own cars. I remember the day when he passed away, being in Australia it was a 4 in the morning race so I decided to just watch the replay. I woke to the terrible news and cried the whole day. I still miss him so much.
