    People asking for a third series just don’t get the beauty of British Sit Coms. You make a perfect series and you leave it there.

    • @Bjarku
      @Bjarku 3 года назад +7

      I don’t know, I think this is overstated by people like Ricky Gervais. I agreed with him about The Office and Extras but they felt like they were at a natural end point anyway.
      If they made another couple of series of Nighty Night it wouldn’t end up like Last of the Summer Wine. There’s a happy medium somewhere between the UK 2 series and the American 20 season snoozefests.

    • @him050
      @him050 3 года назад +2

      Bjarkus yeah I get you but that’s more when a show is prospecting to be on going. With some shows it’s very clear it’s like a book, they wrote a beginning, middle and end and that’s that.

    I don't think its an accident that most of these forward thinking creatives, were huge fans of what is now perceived as dated, un-pc humour, but remain the golden days of British comedy. They have the intelligence to know what bits belong back then, and what they can take from them and make new.
    I think its also important to highlight the use of my home town Dorking, and in particular a steep hill that goes past the loading bay of what was once, a Tesco. And stood outside a jewellers thats been there since the great plague.

    The Young Ones, oh god, yawn. Was basically Tiswas with knob jokes. Strange no mention from any of them of Ab Fab, Comic Strip Presents (closer to Julia's comedy) or even Rising Damp 70s sitcom packed with wit and caustic dialogue and a monster at the heart of it . Try and catch Julia Davis in a totally unrecognisable role in Coming Soon, here on You Tube. One of her early roles if not her debut and with the brilliant Vicki Pepperdine. Good to see them working together 20 odd years later in Sally Forever.

But I have one question: At 28.20, when Julia says (of Rebecca Front) "I think she had a lovely time," why does the audience react like that? It's almost as if RF has maybe said something critical of the show? There's definitely something gong on; a few of the panellists are applauding as well. Can anyone explain what that moment is about?

    Julia Davis, the star, creator and writer, hardly said two words. Imagine if this were a retrospective of The Office, or Alan Partridge - Ricky Gervais and Steve Coogan would hardly let the cast get a word in! That's the difference between the male and female ego, right there.

      There’s an Afterlife cast discussion on here. Gervais is chatty, certainly, plus he’s chairing the discussion, but I wouldn’t say he dominates.

      I think Steve Coogan is a poor example, and Ricky Gervais isn’t the person you see in front of the camera, just like many comedians.
      Weird to turn this video into a slight against two men who don’t feature in it. Even weirder to pick one of the producers of the show, who gave Julia the opportunity to make it 🤷‍♂️

      Why do people have to turn everything into a competition? Julia Davis is not the character you see on TV. From what I've seen in interviews, she is generally a quiet, introspective, considered person in real life, especially compared to other comedic actors. This has nothing to do with the difference between men and women, it's just the way she is.

    It's a show that makes my skin crawl, yet I cannot look away!
    It hits a mark between comedy and disgust for me.
