General History ►
This is a story that has unfolded for more than a thousand years, a story about an ancient castle that has endured the test of time.
A noble and very influential Italian family constructed the Glorious Castle in the 10th century.
It has played an instrumental role in the historical development of this area throughout history. Various figures have taken it over at least 20 times and used it as a base to rule over the underlying kingdom.
With each seizure, the subsequent owners remodeled and reconstructed the castle to their taste. They added new sections and transformed it into a more modern era of rule. When walking through it, the different time periods can be seen on the walls.
One last takeover occurred in 1711 when the Lomellino family seized the castle. Since they had already ruled this area for so long, it was only natural that they would also take this place by force. Their final reconstruction transformed it into the structure we see today. Furthermore, they developed a wine-producing business in and around the castle, producing world-class wines for centuries to come.
This particular castle has the longest-lasting history of anything we have documented before on the channel…
Throughout the documentary, we will go more in-depth on its history and architectural features!
Architecture ►
When this castle got constructed in the early 10th century it was only a fraction of the size of what it is right now.
Over its 1,000-year history, the castle was remodeled and parts added left and right. It's believed it's been remodeled at least 15 times.
A magnificent display of medieval architecture, the building rises 5 levels around a central courtyard. Its high walls protect it from attacks on the outside while keeping life pleasant inside.
Every single room is uniquely decorated and, in total, the entire place consists of more than 40 rooms. The castle is a true masterpiece of Italian architecture and design. In this documentary, we also discovered that there are multiple hidden tunnels beneath the castle. In the more early and violent years of its existence, these tunnels probably served as escape routes!
Family History ►
As the last decedent of the Lomellino family to live here, Carlos inherited all the wealth his family gained over the years. He met his lovely wife Beatrice early in life, and the two married and built a beautiful life together.
In their lifetimes, they expanded the business that their forefathers had established for them and grew it bigger than they could have ever imagined.
In contrast to previous generations, Carlos and Beatrice had a relatively small family, occupying only one section of the castle, and had few servants.
After their children moved out to live in more urban areas, Carlos and his wife retired and closed their businesses. They also moved out of the castle after a couple of years because it had grown too big for them.
This was almost 4 decades ago. For some time, they kept the house in pristine condition. However, after the death of their parents, the children lost interest in this masterpiece and left everything to decay with time.
This masterpiece is the outcome of a thousand years' worth of history, and we will take you on a tour of it today!

It would be much more rewarding. If the person that conducts these tours had a real knowledge of the era and the history they are discussing. It would add so much depth and at the same time avoiding giving off too many clues as to the location.

It is protected under historical building preservation act if someone tries to tear it down, but the guy just said he doesn't think it has that protection, but someone has to apply for it's safety ; but to restore it, you must prove you have funds to keep it up to standard. It's like the elephant in the city, everyone sees it, but no one talks about it. In USA you can get historical preservation grant money.
Is this one of the homes you can buy for $1, but you must show you have funds to fix it up; but sometimes the government would give you some money to start the process!

In our country.. 🇺🇸 We really don't have so much history as Italy does. This video is endlessly beautiful especially with its furniture, art in carving etc.
All the families could all put there money together live there rent out rooms if there are trade people help out that way why leave it to waste away

I’m astounded by the beauty of this castle! I can’t understand people to abandon such a structure. Why haven’t they donated the castle to the State to be used as a public art museum and lecture/ music hall?
governments are working on razor thin budgets, they don't have the money to maintain them, there are hundreds of castles around Europe, privately owned; some investors acquired them restored them and transformed them into hotels, the return on investment is not good, very little profit they are expensive to restore, many were restored and put on the market, they are hard to sell and whoever buys them make them a target for kidnapping and all sorts of crime; there's an oversupply of luxury real state and not enough buyers
There has to be a way to solve this. It is a matter of priorities. Are we to be rushing towards the future or will we choose to honour and understand our history. These abandoned buildings are screaming for our attention. They are saying very clearly, this is what comes of unhinged wealth. Not a gradual succession of inheritance and improvements in the standards of living for everyone, over the generations. Instead we see evidence of abrupt devastation left to Nature's untiring hand. Any answers we have as to why, can only be sketchy at best, but if we don't try to understand and resolve this now, for future generations, then I can only imagine our great great grandchildren starring awestruck at the glass/steel/marble/
temples of today, wasted away in front of them.
The public and private sectors, who together hold unimaginable wealth by any standard, must choose to do the right thing: come together for the common good. I don't see any other way.

@Shell m Yes but many european castles in the middle ages thrived because the peasants had to work hard and pay taxes to the local castle baron / duke etc. Also, the noble family living in the castle was the only one who had hunting rights.
Just as i thinking why not tourist setup,cleanup, so money can come donations help preserve this place for times ahead for ppl appreciate of times past. Its weird one why did thet do such ornate ceiling theres be lots sore stiff necks looking up admiring, dont get it,is it bc churchs but tne cost of ceilings which really what thinking relevance,of day go day now is there. They are great incredible floor tilings done too some places seen,while travelling, how modern world isnt it seems as creative as times past. This is such a beautiful incredible neglected place sad side. By family disputing.Trouble is Italy has so so many wonderful old places close to this age needing help but the funds the skilled to whos really travelling keeping records sadly sure some places i visited,its fundings many just needing &tempature control machines,to steadying tempature&venting right now cant think called, types of humidifiers&finding volunteers harder. This was an absolutely amazing tour, and the most enormous castle I have ever viewed thus far. You did an amazing job taking us on this journey. Oh, how wonderful it would be to see this historical place restored. Still, it is marvelous in its own right!

The last part of the video, was the original parts of the castle. I also noticed a lot of Art Nouveau details in the first dining room ( It was probably a breakfast room), and in a few of the bedrooms. Also Art Deco.
The long cord hanging in the last bedroom you checked out, would be connected to a bell system, it was designed to call on the servants when they needed their service.
The dayroom with what you thought was the four seasons in the ceiling showed not just the 4 seasons but also images from other countries. (Pyramids are usually connected to Egypt and South- Amerika, and more of them are being discovered all over the world.) Astonishing work of art!!
All these years and a 1000 years, still good. It's amazing to have them survived...

Although it is a century old abandoned castle, I can say that it is Very prestine, the ceilings are very nice, so facinating, the furnitures are great and the walls have a beautiful designs and colors, nice paintings too, so amazing castle with everything inside besides that the other valuables were stolen. That would have to be the most amazing finds yet. This one is right up there. Loved the the wall art. Amazing stuff left behind. I felt that those bedrooms and the adjoining dining rooms were dedicated to certain family members over the years. As there seemed to be certain previous pictures of family who may have had those rooms in their lifetimes. And those TUNNELS! oh my gosh it's another world down there, and rather creepy too. Am I the only one that finds myself angry at the utter waste of it all? People are struggling to make it in the world and this family is so rich they can just leave treasures to rot. Donate it to a charity or something so they can sell the valuables and do some good with the money instead of just having it all rot away.
Charities doing good?? 😂😂😂 riiiight. Charities are money laundering service and tax evasion for the same people you're talking about. And that's being generous. In the extreme cases, charities are actually purposely harming people, like the bm gate found ation!

I cannot believe this beautiful castle, it is timeless. I am amazed at the antiques and the beauty, the ivy growing through the walls reminds me of the Sleeping Beauty tale. The peacocks are telling on you , little guardians. I've have never seen such beautiful clocks. The ceilings are like a chapel. The lady of the castle was very pretty. Thank you for this trip in history castle. Armchairs and sofas are upholstered in a wonderful silk jacquard from a factory in San Leuco, Campania. This silk was bought by all the kings of Europe.

Мебель в них кажется игрушечной. Да, от лишних денег люди сходят с ума. 😊НО, замок самый великолепный из всех. Я ещё не видела такой красоты. Хотелось бы посмотреть комнату для узников, которую вы не смогли открыть. Или бы посветили туда.
Great tour of an abandoned treasure as usual, and I know it's part of your policy not to take what is not yours, i appreciate that, but couldn't you at least shut a window or two that you have found open to minimize damage? that would be great!
The air flow helps to keep the house from getting mold. A lot of these old places have the windows open for that reason, Especially in humid climates.
@@Debbie_Bcool Yes, I realize that but in most cases, it's not good to have the windows fully open, and in lots of cases, vandals open them and don't shut them

Just when I think you can't possibly outdo your previous explorations of the great Castles of Europe, you go and excel all others before it! This is the most incredibly beautiful and completely intact Castle you've ever explored! Fabulous, Leslie ❤️. I would watch a 4 hour video had you offered it..Absolutely amazing. I don't know who could just leave everything behind like that - even the photographs, their family's very memories. Tch Tch. The furnishings are at grave risk of losing them forever as the roof decays further and further - and that would be such a tragedy. But the slowe decay is partly what makes your explorations so precious and meaningful.

Yes, that was creepy down in there especially when he lifted that drain and went down further. As an old lady, I wonder if a lot of those tunnels weren't built during the 2nd World War?

The balls at the legs of an upholstered chair is part of what design commonly used in the Chippendale style from 1700s to 1800s with its ball bottomed tipped legs. That type of furniture belongs in a museum. So beautiful!

Our past history is not what we’ve been taught, Leslie has shown so many videos of Castles and old Mansions that came from an ancient civilization that was called Tartaria, these people built their structures using sacred geometry that could be felt with love and good health vibrations. They were larger than us which is why the ceilings and door ways and arches are so high. They lived through a Golden Age followed by a cataclysmic event that shows damage all around the word that was left. We inherited them all and was told that we built them. If you enjoy history you will love finding our true one.

What a wonderful find. Well done. Its a real ancient gem. Ninety mins just flew so fast. I was mesmerized all the way through. The beautiful ceiling remined me of the home I lived in in the 1980's seven floor derelict building above a shop in West Flanders Belgium that I had whole access to and I tried exploring the above floors a few times. Maybe you can do a part two for all the rest of the vast amount of details. I particularly loved the mesmerizing hypnotic painting of a manor on the fireplace. The dusky bronze looking atmosphere in the painting is very beautiful. I would love to have that on my wall for the sunlight to reflect upon it. The tunnels were very cosy but scary. Thank you for your bravery.

Wow, I didn't want this video to end. This place was amazing, never seen another castle like this. My favorite room was the bedroom at the 1 hour mark, I loved the ceiling, and the wallpaper is my favorite. Plus, the music was perfect, made the video seem like a movie right out of Hollywood. It is an truly a magnificent and epic castle. It has a long history and encompasses centuries. Although, it’s been renovated a number of times they’ve managed to keep areas authentic to the century it was built. Italian Architecture some of the best in the world. The ceilings are amazing and you can see the love of the art that is put into the construction of these fantastic pieces. In fact I would go as far as saying just Superb in some cases. Impressive dungeon I must say one of the best I have seen in a while. Well done for all your efforts especially in the dungeon area. When the light went out that was scary! lol
I'm interested in this place. I'm going to look into the castle. I'm sure they would sell it. I just sent the video to a couple that are there for a few months. They're buying a place next week to restore. I'll bring my own people to work it.

OK just to help you understand, because a room has a dining table doesn’t mean it was a dining room, most rooms of the period had tables for conversation, Day rooms, Card room, Reading room etc, love theses investigations you do great work
Just watched and enjoyed it so much.All the antiques were amazing the hand made furniture is the most amazing I’ve ever seen. I noticed lots of glassware that was probably worth lots of money it’s a shame it’s just sitting there to ruin , thank you so much for exploring this marvelous place and all the other places. ❤

I don't usually like things so ornate but you have to admire the beauty of it. I kept thinking what a lovely place that would be to hold weddings, can you imagine?
This was wonderful! I just wanted to mention the Italian Terrazzo floors in every room. My late father in USA learned from an Italian man how to install this type of flooring. It is very labor intensive and absolutely marvelous. I especially liked the pattern of the billiards room. Thank you for sharing this! I do hope it will be completely restored, even the wine production.
It's heartbreaking and blissfully enchanting. I can tell you are a true romantic. Thank you so much for taking us in there. It's just as if I were walking through a gorgeous museum. I am tremendously fascinated by abandoned places. It was well worth watching your video. I would have snatched a few mementos to take with me, however as you yourself said - never take anything with you!! I'm from Valletta, in Malta where all of our buildings are Baroque, from this same period and look exactly like this. There are quite a few palazzos that are livable thanks to people who restore them however it takes lots of maintenance. Most baroque palazzos were residences to noble families that had their own chapel. We lived in a Baroque building first and our building had a communal courtyard with a 16th century well and high walls, thick walls and the tiles are old. Then we lived in a Victorian apartment, and now a 1950s mid century apartment. Restoration is key when it comes to these buildings and quite honestly it does look like there has been an attempt at restoration so hopefully, it won't remain abandoned for too much longer before it finds its next owner. Who knows they might turn it into a boutique hotel. Incidentally, my grandmother had the same tapestry that was on that chocolate box on one of the walls of her Piano Sopra upstairs. I believe it was heavily reproduced at the turn of the century. My gran's family home is now a jewellery store selling Cartier and Rolex. Her marital home has been restored and is now a boutique hotel. These buildings have far-reaching potential, but the the only people that will afford to buy them and restore them are large businesses.

This is a bit of a novel… so you don’t have to read it if you don’t want to, but I hope you will… 😊 I fully loved your comment, I agree with everything thing you said. This castle is simply amazing, it is without question by far one of the most impressive buildings I’ve ever seen anywhere. The architecture, paintings, furniture and woodwork are unbelievable! 😮 so cool to see what amazing quality craftsman were capable of building … They just don’t make things like that now unfortunately… just cheap pressboard and crappy furniture that lasts about 5 years before it falls apart! In the future as a hobby when I get a bit older I would love to take extremely good pictures and recreate some of these incredible pieces of old furniture and cabinets from really high quality expensive real wood ! Possibly Mahogany, burl oak, black walnut etc. I’m not sure what they used back then or if you can even get it in modern times, so I will have to do some research 🧐! and then maybe even just make it out of a different type of wood but certainly Not cheap press / chipboard! I have all kinds of skills, tools and I am extremely patient and picky about my workmanship! But I’ve never seen that as a bad thing … in this day and age I might be one of the very few people left on the planet that could make similar things. 😄 The tour Leslie gave of this 1000 year old Italian castle was amazing and could have been many hours longer and I still would have watched every second of it ! 😊 it was absolutely fascinating in the best way possible! I love how he is so respectful and careful with the families belongings and even just with the items and building itself when he goes into these places. I would love to go with him ! 😊 In other videos I’ve seen that he has done in the past, He will even put things back on a table or fireplace mantle where it belongs if it’s on the floor where may get damaged etc. 😊 For the most part places like this do not exist where I live. ( the only one I can think of that’s even remotely close is in Victoria B.C., out on the pacific coast there is one called Craigdaroch Castle and it’s really cool to see as well ( built in 1908 if I can remember right, as it’s been almost 30 years since I was there. Owned by coal baron Robert Dunsmir the richest man in B.C. at that time ) it is not as large as this castle and nowhere near as old but it is also quite impressive in it’s own right. ( 25 rooms I think 🤔but I can’t be sure of that I was only about 22 years old when I saw it so it’s been a long time now but it certainly made a huge impression on me. In all these years I’ve never forgotten about it! It’s the most incredible building I’ve ever personally been inside. I should go out there on a little vacation just to see it again! 😊) Generally when someone here says “ that place is really old” they mean it was built in 1960. 😄Thank You for mentioning the places and buildings you, your family and your Grandmother 👵 have lived in the past, they sound awesome! This place is truly incredible! I'm having a glass of wine while I'm watching just so I can get the full effect of this amazing place. The tunnels under the castle are incredibly creepy. They would make for the world's scariest game of hide and seek ever! I'm so glad to hear that someone is there to keep an eye on this place now. Hopefully, all of the beautiful antique furniture and other items can be restored to their former glory.
It's so amazing that this place is like taking a walk back hundred of years ago . I dream of places like this. The huge pieces of furniture are worth a fortune here and such beautiful woodworks amaze me. I can image children hiding in them playing go seek. Lovely video thank you for this walk back in time.

The name of the agricultural business (Azienda agricola), "CA' RONESCA" in the Collio, which is on the wine list that was in the billiard room, is that of an agricultural business that still exists, they have probably abandoned the chateau and its old wine making facilities for the more modern buildings they occupy today!
