    STORY
Welcome to Chateau Milles Chambre, the captivating masterpiece known as the castle with 1000 rooms. Discreetly set, yet perfectly positioned, this architectural gem takes in magnificent, far-reaching views over the surrounding landscape of rolling, wooded hills and valleys. For over 900 years, the Fayolle family has proudly protected this cherished land, their connection to the castle's illustrious history spanning through generations.
The history of Chateau Milles Chambre dates back to 1143 when a medieval stronghold was erected on the site. Throughout the turbulent Hundred Years War, it endured attacks and bore witness to the struggle between the French and English forces. Rebuilt in the 15th century as a fortified castle, it fell under English occupation until it was tragically looted and burned down in 1485. However, the indomitable spirit of the Fayolle family and the castle's rich legacy could not be extinguished. Reconstruction efforts in the 18th and 19th centuries brought forth the magnificent structure that stands today, showcasing a harmonious blend of architectural styles and unparalleled historical significance. This enduring castle, with its golden sandstone façade and intricate woodwork, stands as a testament to the centuries of grandeur and resilience that have defined its existence.
Step inside and be mesmerized by the 25 exquisite bedrooms, each adorned with its unique charm, the 6 enchanting bathrooms offering a touch of luxury, and the captivating entrance hall that welcomes visitors with a regal embrace. These splendid spaces are set amidst over 500 hectares of perfectly positioned land, allowing the castle's thoughtfully designed architecture to create breathtaking views of the rolling hills that surround it. Every corner of Chateau Milles Chambre exudes magnificence, evoking a sense of tranquility and awe-inspiring beauty.
Now, we invite you to join us on an enchanting journey as we explore every nook and cranny of this architectural masterpiece. Delve into the history that shaped its walls, witness the stories that echo through its corridors, and immerse yourself in the grandeur that once graced its rooms. Chateau Milles Chambre, now standing as the largest abandoned castle in the world, eagerly awaits your arrival. Discover the magic, the mystery, and the untold tales that lie within its thousand rooms.

Why doesn't someone make it into a luxury hotel. Some bedrooms would need to be converted to bathrooms or bathrooms added into the larger rooms. Better than letting it fall into ruin and decay. It always breaks my heart to see books left behind or family photos. You always do such an amazing job of finding the history of places you explore and are so respectful of the place.

Don't think there would be demand for it, France has one castle per village/town they just have so many castles that a few just need to be abandoned that is just the way of things, plus rich people probably wouldn't want to come here they'd want to be in hotels surrounded by rich parts of big cities such as Paris or Nice not in a small village.

It is still owned by the original family who might have preferred a more modern accommodation and lifestyle. However, when you think about it, it is a smart marketing to let Urban Explorers in to let the audience discover this amazing place. It's been for sale since 2017 for an astronomic amount of money. It also needs major electrical and plumbing work and the top two floors have suffered the most from decades of neglect. Have you seen any working bathrooms besides the nicely designed bedrooms?

Having two people sharing their knowledge is more enlightening than one person constantly guessing about items and history. Shared knowledge is never a detriment in these explores. As I grow older I am less and less "thrilled" by exclusive and beautiful spaces for the privileged few. But as a student and instructor of the Humanities, I understand they were also patrons of craftspeople and artists. Eventually, some of that wealth was used to create public spaces where ordinary citizens could walk and gather in the presence of beautiful architecture and enjoy the works of great sculptors and painters.

Whether it is furniture or rugs or nick knacks or painting, frames , mirrors, even the marble facades of the fireplaces....all of this is very valuable. It says something to me and that is even the down and out prone to theft people of France must still have a sense of respect. These castles are where we can get information about families that lived in them so long ago and the pictures left behind of people etc. These histories shouldn't be for making money from them but putting them in archives and places that will treasure them and share the precious family history as well as the details of the the history of this building (home) which they shared with many others.

I love how the fabric on the walls with the picture fames line up exactly right with the picture fame fabric on the two head boards of the beds. Very beautiful. It is a castle on the outside but you can see it was decorated like a palace on the inside.

What a place!!! I wish I could buy that castle. I would make it beautiful, and restore it as best as I could to make it as close to the original as possible. I cant believe places like this are just left abandoned, with such beautiful things still inside, and a 900 yr old wooden table, looking gorgeous. This castle is a national treasure for France. Its such a shame. I hope who ever buys it fixes it up and returns it to its full glory. So amazing.

Lesley , you did such a good job on this! That was really a stunning castle! I can’t believe all of the artifacts and furniture etc. that were left in there. I truly hope that they are able to preserve that and at least make it into a museum. Thank you so much. Beautiful editing too. Sending sweet vibes from California.💜🫶🤗😎🇺🇸

¡La habitación maravillosa realmente me emocionó!
Es tan bonita y tan teatral que me dió ganas de llorar 😢
Y también tienen un teatro en su propia casa. Bueno, todo el castillo y todo lo que contiene es una obra de arte.
Espero sepan darle uso. Si yo pudiera comprarla, la dejaría tal cual, es una joya de buen gusto.
