1:21:30 is called a desert rose. This is however the largest and best preserved desert roses I have seen. I would love to add these 2 to my collection. I am from Namibia and we used to dig up the sand roses ourselves close to the desert. (Desert roses are formed in wet sand. They are evaporites where the crystal formation has occurred as a result of inflow of water containing dissolved calcium sulfate balanced by an outflow of water due to evaporation. Such minerals are used as indicators of arid climates during the time they were formed.)

It's 0200 and I should have been to sleep hours ago. However I am enthralled in your video's! I Love how you dressed the part right away I noticed that. Your so careful and Respectful to every Antique. It's heartbreaking just to think all of this History rotting 😭. As you go thru I imagine the life that once filled those rooms and how the owner ones loved all of those art pieces.

All of these ancient buildings should become museums or national historic sites! It’s a win-win situation: the castles get the much needed renovations and people can make income from opening these places to the public.
You cannot make an income from opening such places to the public. Restauration costs are extremely high and the amount of entrance fees very low. If it were a good business, someone would do it.

I simply cannot understand the love of collecting from the whole world being left to decay and exist no more. It is mind boggling and extremely sad to me. Surely, prior to accident or illness, some arrangements could have been made to protect these collections of artifacts and paintings. It is beyond belief that they couldn't be saved to be shared. Thank you so much, Leslie and team, for sharing them with us. Also, Leslie, in period costume, was greatly appreciated.
This is an absolute gem. It’s really a shame to see a beautiful place like this just rot in place. All of the art work has to mean SOMETHING to SOMEONE! Why can’t the city step in and restore it or contact the family and if they don’t want it they could Offer it to a museum. Anyway thank you so much for what you do.
Someone needs to rescue this beautiful furniture. Surely the government could intercede in such situations and place the houses content in a museum.

We’ve already inquired about that. I went to French Heritage and it’s not on their lust. Apparently those who own it are so wealthy they aren’t concerned. Maddening. Since people trash it.
@@juliacobb4355 What? Blah. The grandchildren of obscenely rich and recently deceased ppl are so annoying. They probably don't know how much awesome stuff is inside that place. I mean, if my grandpa died and left that behind, I would at least try to get some of the contents of the castle into a museum. Maybe fix the place up and rent it out as a movie set or smthg. I would keep that beautiful sleigh bed. I love those things. The carvings on it are so pretty.

I've seen a few of your videos now and I really enjoy them. I love how respectful you are with others belongings. I also love how you make it fun by dressing up! It is so heartbreaking to see places fade away and no longer cared for. It makes me angry to see places vandalized or you can tell someone has taken something. And then I worry for things that are so valuable. I don't know if you can do anything to protect them, but if you could? Thank you thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to see more!
Thank you Leslie for taking us on the tour. Its a shame it may not be saved. That family were serious collectors filling all those walls with priceless art. What a treasure we can see it before it is too late. They were also great decorators.

These magnificent homes must be preserved. We live in a world that is too quick to tear things down and make a parking lot or build an IKEA or a WALMART.

It’s one thing to see individual items like this carefully placed in separate display spots in a museum, but it is a whole new level of intriguing to see them all placed together in the way they actually were used or displayed for day to day life. It feels cohesive and real in a way that can’t be achieved looking at items sitting separately inside a display case. It’s just too bad that the decay is setting in when they’re like this.
All the histories, the lives lived and lost, the stories told and untold.... These places are amazing part of history.
Guys I really hope you consider wearing respirators indoors in the future. That's some serious black mold in that house and it's very dangerous. I'm sure others have mentioned this on here but I couldn't help but say something. Keep up the good work and take care of yourselves!

With that being said, the soul of a human being reborn back on earth and the material things they acquire aren't the same so I'm not sure why you chose to make that comparison. One has nothing to do with the other in the afterlife. Unless you're Ancient Eygptian and think being buried with all your worldly possessions will make you rich and comfortable in the afterlife. The attachment of material things and the rebirth of souls are vastly different subjects though. One is the attachment of things and the other of beings...The concept of reincarnation is nothing new, it has existed for virtually thousands of years...an entire religion is built around that theory... "Buddhism", you may have heard of it. They teach the subject of non-attachment to materialism and to people as a means of reaching Nirvana (A heavenly plane of existence). And yes, Angels do exist and do walk the earth from time to time, especially those needing to atone for sins against God and man. I agree with you that the Illuminati is about what's right in front of us. The very word Illuminati translates to "Illuminate" to see, to show, and to enlighten. The only issue is most people aren't ready to be shown or see and be enlighened.

Although the love seeing the architecture for these old places, it saddens to not see them cared for. However, this one truely made me angry. As a history of art buff and student of archeology it was sickening to see the variety of cultural treasures being allowed to decay and disintegrate. So many items that belong in art galleries or museums. And quite frankly, many misappropriated historical artifacts that should be returned to the country of origin. I can't tell you how many extremely valuable items were there and for no one to care about preserving them makes me wonder about the nature of their acquisition to begin with. Thank you for finding and giving us a tour but seriously, please contact some nearby reputable museum's about the contents. Don't get me started about items on the table and that Madonna statue hidden away in the secret library room. I recognized Egyptian tools for mummification that if said country knew about, would trigger extradition protocol. Perhaps that's why no one has bought the place, the cost or repairs, mold removal and bringing up to code is too ambitious. Should be a government undertaking with archival endowments. Returning the African, Indo-Asian, Egyptian cultural artifacts is mandatory especially in light of the pathetic manner they are currently stored in. Such allocation is neccessary to the correct record keeping of not just art in one culture but the cultural history of all of us. Such important peices do not belong to a few wealthy people but to whole nations and the world.

Every generation has things that need to be archived for posterity. Not for the few, but for the many who come after and want truth in history. Gods blessings to those who preserve for all humanity, unvarnished truth.
Why? This isn't your stuff. You didn't buy it. The owners have every right to All w it to rot. This uoug man is guilty of breaking and entering. He IS breaking the law. If I were to get angry, it would be the sheer hubris of thus young man.
I think we have to realize Leslie is a person of integrity hence why he wouldn’t dream of taking anything. I’ve watched him for a while now and he is very respectful of all items. Even in big homes strewn with garbage, he will carefully handle items,now with gloves on. He’s trying to make some things come to life, so often he tries to make educated, and uneducated guesses as to their purpose . He enjoys learning about historical artifacts and so he’s always open to correction if anyone knows better than him.

I understand and admire your honesty in not damaging or stealing things. However, in cases where artifacts are on the brink of destruction or in buildings that are OBVIOUS cases of abandonment (not this castle which is still in great condition) my gut wishes that someone knowledgeable WOULD save/take/steal the objects. At least if stolen they would be preserved and eventually find their way into the hands of people that would appreciate and preserve them. Many will disagree with me. That being said, your videos are super!
I explored a lot of places around the world and saw many beautiful artifacts go to waste but this made me cry :(

Agreed. I've watched this episode several times. The artwork and artifacts are incredible. I just know those African artifacts are ancient and would be beloved if returned so they can be put in a museum.

Heartbreaking that this fabulous artwork is being left to decay! You would think museums and art dealers or the state would step in.
Those paintings on the wall are called ‘frescos’, the tiles are likely from an old chapel, or the original chapel within the grounds. The wood and paper on the wall near the wooden statue with the rosary, are very old religious artefacts and prayers. The boy holding the cross with Maria is baby Jesus. The little boy in the paining with the collar is either lord Fauntleroy or an ancestor. The rugs in the wall are medieval tapestries and I think telling everyone the former owners name only opens the place up to looting and theft. The mirror with the painting is called a Turneau mirror. The phone is phone from the war, that soldiers used in battle. I doubt this property has been abandoned if the house is being cared for. It looks like you had permission to film too. The man was an eye doctor and the kit you picked up was for looking at the behind the cornea.
Loving how appreciative and respectful you are of the property and the belongings within. Lovely find. Just hope this can be preserved, saved and not looted. Lesley has a lovely calming voice for presenting this too.
Yes. Additionally, the "rugs" on the walls are tapestries. The first thing I saw in the library looks like an exquisite Tiffany chandelier which was my fave.

Yh I think the place is being looked after as all those things would have been taken by now the first room the table and chairs doesn't fit the space, in front of the fireplace and that side table in front of the door on the right that wouldn't be there either. I'm surprised a family would build something this small the proportions are not big enough or grand ideas the hallways are only big enough for one person wide
That place looked like a Museum... with all the paintings and art effects in there as well as antiques it must be worth quite a lot of money. With all the black mold growing everywhere it may have been a health issue and so they had to leave as exposure to black mold can kill you over time. At the least, make you extremely ill with respiratory illnesses. Even short-term exposure can have repercussions on your health so you may want to consider wearing a protective mask so you don't breathe it in. It was an absolutely beautiful time capsule well worth showing and as usual, you did a wonderful job of bringing it to the world. But always place your health first, not the entertainment of others. With that being said, thank you Leslie for bringing us this amazing castle to enjoy. God Bless.
Hi I homeschool my daughter. And I just want to let you know. It is fantastic that you give us a true glimpse of re-encountering History. These places should be museum open to the public. History would always be a part of us because one day we will be history as well. And someone will always wonder how we lived. So I appreciate you and so many that visit these old abandoned places. It's interesting to think about the last owner, how eccentric his interest in collecting and studying things. I wonder what he was like. He might appreciate someone giving a tour of all the things he has collected over his life and capturing a snapshot of his world frozen in time. You can't take any of it with you, but I hope this all finds its way to new appreciative homes.
I feel like you had permission to be in there. A few reasons. 1 the lawns taking care of. 2 it's seems to clean for sitting for 5+ yrs. 3. You usually touch and open more things. Either way it was a great video. 👍 keep up the good work.
I agree with you. There must be owners with interest in that property. Yes, too clean to be abandoned. Burglars would have taken all those gorgeous wooden figurines and oil paintings and made money...specially in the situation Europe is facing....

Everybody makes mistakes it is all rotting into the ground. Get over yourself. I'm working cerned with what he's breathing. He's always been very respectful. Maybe you could donate some money for gloves and a proper air mask for the black mold growing all over the walls
I have several things to say… (1) I’m 56 years old - just wanted to give you an idea of part of your fan base. 😉 And you are only one of three channels I watch regularly because I enjoy it so much. In the rabbit-hole world that is RUclips, I mean that as a major compliment. (2) I LOVE that you dressed up in a period clothing for this one! ❤️ (3) Those “hanging rugs” are actually called “tapestry”, and those tapestries you showed looked to be in amazing condition - just needing to be cleaned. They can be worth THOUSANDS of dollars if not in the millions, depending in how old they are, their condition, of course, and whether or not they are handmade, which can take years. (4) You picked up a small trinket box towards the beginning and said it had marble inlay - that looked like ivory, which is MUCH MORE VALUABLE than marble. Which leads me to number (5) I truly enjoy your passion shared in these videos. You should do yourself and your audience a real service by taking some Art History & Architecture History classes. If that’s too much for you, you should, at the very least, purchase some quality books on the subjects for your personal library. You sound like you would really enjoy & benefit from understanding what you are looking at. (6) Last, but certainly not least, I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you leave these beautiful abandoned homes as you find them, and respect the property within. 🙏🏻 Oh, wait… one more… LOL (7) Your videos are really improving! This is by far the most exquisite palace you have taken me to. The beauty of the petit point upholstery of the love seat and chairs, the carpets, the art work. The beautiful Venecian glass chandeliers. This palace not only shows wealth, but refined taste

This is so much more than an abandoned castle. The owners were clearly fine art collectors going back centuries. The art and artifacts alone could fill an entire museum. Just astounding and baffling that it’s not being claimed, or at least the artwork and items within it.

I love the way you address the camera/cameraman like you are speaking directly to your audience. Hope you all don't mind my time stamps. An amazing video! Thank you. This family traveled a lot! At 16:53 there's a brass sextant on the table for navigation on ships. I'd also like to know more about the tall glass floor vase in the corner. 27:43 (Murano, Italy? Maybe). I've never seen anything like it. It would take great skill to create something like that. . At 33:49 there is a rotating cigarette dispenser on the top of the desk (when you turn the top the doors rotate out) At 40:45 on the lower shelf, there's a Blue Willow Patterned Platter. At 44:21 you'll see the Blue Willow Soup Tureen to match. (They are from England and are 1800's pieces) At 44:51, Where the wood stoves are now, that area most likely was entirely a fire place at one point. The item on the table at 01:21:31 is called a desert rose (Selenite), it looks like it may be on a slab of petrified wood or agate. As an artist myself, I could spend days examining all of the artwork and trying to figure out the artists that painted or sketched them. Thanks again Bros of Decay.

Thank you, and I doubt people mind at all but instead appreciate the information if they don’t know it. I’d be interested to hear your take on the library with its war artifacts and photos, and especially the pieces of wood. Those meant a great deal to that man, or perhaps his father. The Latin pages on the wall are intriguing as well, but that photo of a crowd, with men in turbans or another style of headdress plus the pieces of wood are very telling of something historical. I can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s past this, but it brings to mind ‘the great game.’ Or some Indian uprising, I should think.
This house is full of history, it looks like the owner was an archeologist and historian. All the contents in that house museums and libraries should save them. You look so handsome dressing like Napoleon Bonaparte! Thank you for sharing this video👍.

I watch this report over and over again, it's just brilliant, the secret room in the library is incredible, what secrets are inside it, in another bedroom it looks like someone tried in the past to open another white safe leaving the lock destroyed without being able to access Inside, this castle is full of antiques, works of art, treasures of all kinds, it is incredibly spectacular, without a doubt one of your best explorations, Mr. also likes the tranquility and serenity that your voice and attitude give off, showing the history of the place At the same time as each and every one of the priceless objects, I've literally been watching your explorations for 72 hours, all full of history, passion and sensitivity, bravo

I amazes me that it was abandoned. There is hundreds of millions of dollars of artifacts in there. The African art and carvings need to be in a museum. The paintings are unbelievable. Lovely video.

amazing find! As the old saying goes, "You can't take it with you," and ultimately, time catches up with us all. Currently, I am trying to "reunite" my collections and a large personal library under one roof, but my health and diminished physical abilities stand in the way of accomplishing this.

I would love to see an appraisal team come in and analyze all the Artwork and artifacts! They just might faint! I bet there are so lost works of art in there. Hope they are saved before they are ruined or stolen.
It would be nice to have a follow up video as to what has happened after this discovery, if anything
Clean it out and open an antique store in the US people would go crazy to get their hands on these and it is better than just letting them rot away.

Some of those chairs and desks/dressers are worth tens of thousands also. It's upsetting to see them ignored and forgotten.

Those textiles hanging from the walls aren't rugs, they are very, very, early tapestries. Incredible. Well done!
They seem to be the same type tapestry rug in a plantation home in Louisiana / We were told that they were out lawed due to the women going blind making them
The are in a Plantation Home called Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie Louisiana
They make me think of the castle of King Henry V111. Covered in taperities. They looked like they did alot of traveling, all souvenirs. Very beautiful, you look very handsome in your dress. Thanks so much for this exploration!!

At 14:20, the “sort of telescope” that you refer to is called a theodolite - a precision instrument to measure angles and used for surveying land. That one on the desk is one of the earliest versions of what civil/survey engineers used in the olden days.

Thank you for showing this. It was truly beautiful and heartbreaking to see how it's decaying and falling apart. I appreciate the fact the original family stayed as long as they did but wish the ancestors continued because they should have been able to take care of it if they had wealth. I hope something can be done to this beautiful place to keep it for more to enjoy. I appreciate what you do.
There is enough art there to fill a couple of museums. These people had exquisite taste and a great appreciation of art.

I have a thought for you Lesley about the ragged man In the painting. Do you think it might be possibly St. John the Baptizer ? He is depicted ragged , unkempt in camel's hair as he lived in the wilderness.( I know there are alot of Biblical figures throughout ). Thanks !

It’s so difficult to imagine the mind-set of the family leaving so much valuable behind! I, like most people, would love to have a chance to see these fabulous art works, artifact, archeological finds in a museum, not left to be ruined. These things will never come again, and therefor should be protected. Very exciting to see the through you, Leslie, but also sad.
Thank you so much for filming and describing this piece of architectural history. Since I was a graduate student studying architectural history at University of Oxford, upon investigating the history of country estates, I greatly appreciate these magnificent buildings and structures. It is sad to see a building such as this one with black mold starting on the ceiling and down some walls as a result of water damage from the decay in roofing. I wish these buildings could be restored and rehabilitated and used to protect for future generations. Thank you for filming and sharing.
I'm sorry but if it was me in that castle I'd be picking up everything that's nocked over & dusting as I go along, picking up every piece of paper & puting it neatly away. What a beautiful castle!!! My heart goes out to all of these places, how can anyone not love these homes.
Hahahaha. Me too! It is a terrible shame, that all those beautiful antiques, are just rotting away. Why didn't one of the historical societies from that province, clean it up for tours, and use the money for renovation?🤔
Clean up? Put away? Are you serious! That’s History! Not to be disturbed! Mother Nature will eventually clean it up if the Owners don’t! Thank God vandalism hasn’t reared it ugly head!

This place is so gorgeous that it makes me want to go through it with bleach and clean away all of the black mold and then with a bucket of murphy's oil soap and clean all of the beautiful wood furniture and make it look new again! And Lesley, I LOVE your costume, it goes so well with the video! Nice job!! xo

It’s sad to see the disrepair when a good scrubbing would go a long long way!
Sadly, because of the black mold, it is a very unhealthy environment. Breathing the air and disturbing the mold can make a person very ill. Even sadder is the fact that nothing in this beautiful place could ever be salvaged.
So so sad to see all the beautiful furniture just left to rot.. amazing to see how quickly a home can fall into decay. Once again great video Lesley.
That place needs a new roof and someone to care for it, it's definitely fixable and in pretty good shape ..wow, thanks for the amazing tour ,you played the role perfectly

Words cannot describe how beautiful this home is. I can't imagine living in a house several generations belongings are in . All those years to require that beauty then just rot away. So so sad. The antiques in one room probably worth more than my house. Love your tour and dress up. You look like you came out of one of the paintings.

The room right off the entry way or foyer would be a salon or game room, not a dining room. And the 'emblem' in the fireplace is called a Coat of Arms. Also I would add the photo of people saluting looked like Charles Degaul and those portable phones were most likely from WWII.

I love watching these. It is difficult to find abandoned furnished houses in Kentucky, USA, but we have many with awesome land overgrown around them.

I was reading that some of those homes devalue so much that they can't get a replacement insurance. For example if it devalued to 50,000 and the buyer insurance it for 500,000 and suddenly the home burns down. So insurance companies denies to insure that kind of property.
It is so sad to see all those treasures abandoned and also saddens me to know the place has been completely looted since this video was made. Those items should have gone to a museum to be cared for and shared with the world. Thank you for sharing this time capsule with us.
It's so cool to see this perspective of these old places. Most of the time, you only see places like this during paranormal investigations or ghost story videos. That really darkens something that is very beautiful. In that context the statues are made to seem creepy and the paintings dark and mysterious, when in fact they are just personal memento's of someone's life. Life is beautiful.
Somewhere thete is someone who owns that. Sometimes it takes years to track down distant family. You look spectacular in 18th century attire. Very Handsome. The previous poster was correct you would love taking Art History in College. I can see you potentiality teaching it someday. I love the longer videos. Thank you
