    most, if not all, walmarts have fishing lure keychains for $2-3. if you look at the keychains and then look at the ozark trail lures, you'll notice that they are the same thing except that the ozark trail lures cost $4+. if you get the keychains and add hooks, they work the same and catch fish.

    We don't have Wally World here in Australia although I wish we did. The closest we have is Kmart or BigW. Probably 90% of my gear comes from them. Looking in the garden, crafts and other sections will definitely pay off compared to looking only in the fishing gear.
    Fishing doesn't have to be expensive to be fun and productive.

      You’re better off without Walmart ruining your entire economy. We’ve become completely dependent on it here in the US - especially in small towns. And the local economies have gone to hell. Walmart is now the only place to get anything for fishing unless you drive 70-90 miles to a big town

    • @TheCaptainbeefylog
      @TheCaptainbeefylog 3 года назад

      @@tannertuner I'd be interested in them trying to get into the market here but they'd have major obstacles. Australian minimum wage is pretty high compared to the US and their major competition in Coles Myer Group and WesFarmers are savage and have the market pretty much tied up. I understand that Kmart is pretty much a dead horse in the States but it's still strong here and about as close to Walmart as we'll get I think. We have Costco which is pretty cool but the other majors still have them bottled up. With less than 10% of your population and the same distances to cover there just isn't the market space or sheer volume of sales.

    If you need to catch some small bait. Buy some straws and pinch the ends with needle nose pliers and weld them shut with a cigarette lighter. It makes a nifty float. You can even put a small split shot on one end or both ends.
    I like to use the tiny copper wire thats in a burned out evaporative cooler pump for making the eye-loops. You may have to twist it into a two strand wire. Then some black tape to get rid of the sharp prongs that will snag your line.
    Custom make them by floating them in a tuppaware bowl or something.
    I like to float mine straight up so as to not to scare the small fish with the movement when they bite.

    FYI, info from an aquarium nerd: You don't need a bubble stone/wand in your live well. You just need the air hose doing it's air thing. You can use anything to weight it down, tie a sinker on it.
    The bubbles themselves aren't doing anything to oxygenate the water while they're in the water, they aren't small enough or in the water long enough to dissolve O2 into it, it's when they pop at the surface. Surface agitation=gas exchange. CO2 out, O2 in.

      Yeah, we talk about Walmart because in most rural areas they’ve become all we’ve got anymore. And it is now the largest employer in the US. Even when I lived in a larger town, I would try to go out of my way to stay out of Walmart, but the place I’d go didn’t have everything I needed on the shelf and we would wind up having to go to Walmart anyway. It’s even worse in small towns.

      @@tannertuner true - that’s the sad thing about big chains. They kill the little guy. Same thing happened over here with hardware stores. A big chain opened up everywhere and put the local guys out of business. And when supermarkets started having a meat section in the 80’s it was the death of small butcher shops. Supermarkets were only allowed to open till 5 or 6pm here once. That way you had to utilise your corner grocery store after work. The big supermarkets wanted to stay open till 9pm and they were told if you do you’ll have to do every weekend and public holiday too because the little mum and dad stores will lose all their evening business and close. But that’s all been forgotten now. They close on public holidays and you can’t buy groceries anywhere. Once the competition is gone they can do what they want.

    • @tannertuner
      @tannertuner 3 года назад +2

      @@Beyondthebackyard-au Walmart is like a predator. If a town they move into has a good sewing/craft store, they send scouts in and scout out the situation then they blow up the size if their craft section until they drive the small store out of business. Then they might cut out their craft section all together to make room to focus on a sporting goods or electronics store or office supply, until no competition is left. And then they quit stocking that section in the store. But nobody has the money to invest in even trying to compete. It costs too much for overhead to make enough money to live on.
      Walmart added groceries in the late 80s and 90s in order to capitalize on the $80 billion food stamps budget, and they keep as many of their employees qualified for food stamps as possible, by design, so that essentially the taxpayer is paying for the employees to work at Walmart.
      It’s like the scene in the movie “Independence Day” when the president sees the thoughts of the alien. “They’re like locusts. They move from town to town using up all the natural resources and then move on.”
      They’ve even driven their own suppliers/vendors out of business before.

    • @Beyondthebackyard-au
      @Beyondthebackyard-au 3 года назад

      @@tannertuner wow. Makes you wonder what the future holds. Our supermarkets are trying to go self checkout now too. Instead of hiring say 10 people they hire 1 to watch over you scanning your own items. Less jobs for young people, and prices don’t come down because they’re saving money, they pocket that extra. Man we must sound like a couple of Clint Eastwood’s from gran Torino lol Poor fishin n stuff having his comments flooded lol.

    I definitely agree with you that Pflueger makes some of the nicest spinning reels for the money. Last year I purchased some Pflueger President Lady's Edition reels that I guessing were going to be discontinued. They were the rose pink color reels that are identical to their blue reels, but were at least 30% cheaper. The color difference won't give you any advantages, lol. As an Alaskan I put about 150-200 lbs of salmon away for winter and the vac sealers bags leak over time and you end up with 70# of freezer burned salmon. If you put up a lot of fish that needs to last months and months spend the money on a commercial sealer... I have one of the cheap Zebco 404 combos from the early 90s I bought at Walmart when I was invited to go fishing and didn’t have my other gear with me. Yes, even the cheap rod that came with it - still catching fish like the day it was new. Granted, I don’t go fishing all the time. But that cheap rod and reel is still one of my all time favorites to fish with, including my Shimano spinner reel from the 80s (also likely a Walmart or KMart purchase). I just took the 404 apart and cleaned and lubed it and it works as smooth as room temperature butter.

    If you are new to or just learning to bass fish with hollow body frogs, buy the ozark trail ones & experiment. The skirts for legs come very long & trimming them make the frogs perform differently. Using the cheaper ones the trim in different ways will save money & if you mess up, no biggie but you’ll know what to do & not do when you upgrade. I bought a 3 pack for $5 where the mainstream brands can be $15+. The shorter the skirt the easier to walk the dog with hollow body frogs. If you trim one side shorter than the other, it will want to turn to that side. So fishing around stumps, pilings, etc… you can make the frog bump all around the structure. Have some fun with it. Now I use a heavier line when fishing frogs, usually 17# mono. I prefer Suffix Seige, it’s tough, abrasion resistant, helps keep frog on top the water & doesn’t have a lot of stretch so you can get that good hook set. Remember to wait till you fell the fish pull then give a good solid hook set. Must get the plastic to depress to expose the hooks.

    Today i used your other video and made some great sheaths. I use an axe in the yard to clear-trees / make fire wood some time we also take it with use camping. Today i made a sheath that clamps on tight but can come off. I also made a sheath for a small pair of scissors i keep in my fishing vest while kayaking. I used to have them shoved into foam. It worked but i was always a little worried i would find them sticking out of the vest with a new hole. I still could use a little more help with the press. Perhaps you could do another pvc press video? Oh and the kayak seat mounts worked really great.

    There is a mountain lodge B and B in the hills outside of Pigeon Forge called Berry Springs Lodge (which I can't recommend highly enough) we go to. My impression of both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg is one of a shlocky tourist trap. If you do go to Gatlinburg the parking is tough but DO NOT park illegally. If you're lucky you will have a ticket on your windshield, if you aren't lucky you car will be towed and impounded. They are serious about parking there.
    There are so many natural things to do and see in that area there is no real reason to waste your time in either town.

    We are usually on the same page, friend.. im going to give you my fishing hack; do with it what you like.
    I use alot of garlic powder when i cook food. And when I am done with the bottles, i take the label off and use them to hold my weights. I write the weight on the bottle in a sharpie and throw them in my bucket. 🐟

      @@FishinNStuff fish love the smell of garlic apparently, so i dont wash them before i put the weights in.. leaves the residue on the weights for a bit 👍👍👍

    One thing with those cheap vacuum bags and sealers. Sometimes to keep a good seal, move the bag out about 1/8"-1/4" and reseal it. After a while the clamp pressure gets meh and a vac/seal cycle leaves wrinkles that slow leak😊 had one for 5 years now. Good video, thank you!

    I recently came across your page and specifically this video. I picked up the crafts aisle storage bin for a tackle box and was astonished at how well it works. I made my own video citing this video for people to come watch. I also mentioned the screamin bass boat as a must have to every fishermans list! Stay Awesome!

    I use a Walmart aquarium pump when I get home instead of burning batteries in the bubble box. The pump is cheaper than a 6 pack of batteries.
