Ok, I am finally getting time to restart mission to catch fish. (Yes, I am an "old guy.") Your video was perfect for relearning all the basic things I have forgotten. And your style of showing us the various options made your comments believable. Too many "fish experts" talk about the $250 rod, $200 reel, and some super "whiz-bang" bait that they swear by. This video is great for the new guy looking to not spend a fortune to get started. Subscribed and will now spend this "stay-at-home" time to watch your other videos. Looking forward to learning all the way back up to "expert."
i work at walmart, but i’m leaving after graduation to mentally prepare for college. i want to fish at the lake near my house and this really helped, and that discount will help me stay under budget too
Your are the truth, I tell my co workers to watch you and learn. Man I’m still learning but I always refer to your videos in case I miss something or overlooked. So thank you for posting.
Good info. I built my first rod using some of this guidance. It’s a Shakespeare 6’6” Ultralight Fast Action with a Cadence 2000 series spinning reel. Set it up with 6lb monofilament line for trout fishing in medium width rivers/streams. Planning to use it this week. All in, I think it cost me about $100 to get set up and that was including a small kit with some lures and hooks and stuff.
WOW this was perfect timing. I was on my way out the door to go to Walmart to buy some fishing gear to go fishing today. I just came to shut down You tube and this video was right on the top of my feed so I just had to watch this.
This is good stuff, I will do my fishing pole shopping at Wal-Mart thanks man! Your explaining stuff that I never learned before you got yourself a new sub.
Thank you so much. I fished a lot as a kid but never really learned what hear I used. Now beat up from the army, a million years later, I'm trying to figure out how to go fishing again. Definitely heading to Walmart later.
Cherrywood model has been around for a long time. I'm 59 and I have had one for 30 yrs. I tend to keep every rod i buy. So I've collected a couple. Love these videos.
Man that was an awesome video, I use alot of WalMart stuff, I actually have two of those light action Shakespeare Rods, I have the 1lb test line on one of them, they are great for the money. Take care
Thanks for this video. I have been fishing one time and I have a friend that has been bugging the crap out of me to go fishing. So, I just bought my first fishing pole, but I need to get a tackle box next.
I'm a newbie to fishing I'm going hopefully soon. All the info is very much appreciated. I'm a person that doesn't like to spend a whole lot of money for stuff I don't know anything about lol. If you're not used to fishing would fishing gloves help
Great video! Been thinking about switching out from monofilament to braided line. One thing I hate about monofilament line are the tangles. Those tangles can definitely cost you fish! I use Shakespeare products exclusively. The Uglystiks are definitely the most durable rods I've ever used, and I believe that I'll stick with 'em until the day I draw my last breath! I'm totally devoted to you, Shakespeare! Thanks for the video, and God bless you and your family! Also:Thanks for the Spiderwire tip. Even nearly 30 years ago, when that stuff came out, I began hearing bad reports about the product. No way I'll ever use it! Give our friend, the People's Champ, D. J. a Wassup from me! One other thing:Try not to feed him too many boiled eggs, ok? Don't want our homie to get sick, that's all. Later!
I cought a 28" channel catfish with 4# trilene line with a shimano sienna 500 reel and it works great for me. I bought it on October 17 2020.Thanks for the advice on a reel and line. Great video.
Very helpful videos. Would like to ask a question for those who are getting into jigging. How do you hook your jigs, and how do you work the pole while you fishing for crappie?
I love those Berkley Cherrywood rods. Bought one recently and loved it. Sadly my brother accidentally broke it on the forth of July (he was putting stuff in my trunk and drunkenly snapped it with his cooler.) I’m currently using a Daiwa Samurai X with the Abu Garcia reel from the Berkley pole and it’s great and all, but definitely want to get another one and an Ugly Stick soon.
OMG I friccin love BnM rods I will never go back to another company when choosing a Crappie setup, but nothing beats an Ugly Stik for multi-species fishing!!
I've never had a problem with knots on Spiderwire, I tie an FG knot connection, the double uni just doesn't hold on that line with a braid to mono leader setup(I use EZ braid 300 yard spools only costs 15 bucks and lasts me a couple weeks before my line gets too frayed)
At bass pro and now Cabelas they have a stampede rod and reel combo I use it for bass crappie catfish and I’m trying to catch trout and walleye but I haven’t had luck with that yet but for $35 for a rod and reel it’s a great deal
Yeah, I prefer the stiffer rods too. 😂 In all seriousness, my Wal-Mart *blows* compared to this. Alright, I'll stop. All the rods above you are organized beautifully and yours sells reels!! My Wal-Mart looks like an episode of Hoarders.
can you make a vid on advance fishing gear for the guys looking to cross over from beginner to advance...like on a budget deal....thank you for your time
I'm glad you're showing that you don't have to be rich to fish. Every sport has gotten so specialized and people can be "reel" snobs when it comes to gear. Fish don't care where you buy your gear or what you pay for it. Just read, study and practice. Thanks
I use a Shakespeare micro light to this day when fishn off the bank, or boat slips.... work great and a excellent price..... that tip will break if you flip a big'un on the docks and don't ask me how I know......
Me personally I prefer a 2000 size reel when Crappie fishing, with anything lower I find the spool to be too small and it lowers your castability quite drastically. There's just too much friction when tryna make long casts from the bank on a 1000 or lower. You can get away with a 1500 but I still prefer the 2000 size, love that Pfleuger Trion reel it has a superior drag system, VERY SMOOTH REEL!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND and it's extremely sensitive, yet it's a little pricey at 45$ if your on a budget but it's well worth it.

Make no mistake about it: I’m not offended. I AM cheap. 🤣
Much appreciated for the info!
Man I love the energy! Still watching but so far an amazing video! 💯🎣
Keep it up brother. I like the way you like to help people save money with the fishing fever.

Thank you very much brother for the support.

Very informative, you are dead on with the items you profiled. I use shimano sienna myself. Keep it coming, nice change of pace. Loved it..!!!
Oh and by left hand bait caster not the zebco push button shite I mean a real bait caster I reel left Walmart doesn’t offer it ever
I like Zebco rods and reels........and grand-kids....smiles all around.
I love the cherry wood rods! Don't forget the archies black and chartruese!
Cherrywood model has been around for a long time. I'm 59 and I have had one for 30 yrs. I tend to keep every rod i buy. So I've collected a couple.
Love these videos.
I love Walmart. I get my weights/split shots, nets, night crawlers, and crappie nibbles there
Loved the video man! Thanks for showing you don’t have to buy expensive stuff to get started! Looking forward to the progression videos!
I've got 2 of those Shakespeare rods and have used them for several seasons. Both light and ultra light. They are great.
Yes I love the video thanks for showing me what to look for I will look for those things.
They don’t sell a left reel bait caster they go with the popular but they should offer a left reel bait caster
A plus to buying stuff from Walmart is. It’s a life time warranty lol my rods be breaking and I be taking it right back and they would take it 👍
Wow didn't even think of that haha
Great video!! Very informative. Would love to see your progression to where you are now. Thanks for the great videos
Some solid advice for anyone on a budget.
Man that was an awesome video, I use alot of WalMart stuff, I actually have two of those light action Shakespeare Rods, I have the 1lb test line on one of them, they are great for the money. Take care
JT's All Outdoors what do you use 1lb test for? Just curious
zipZslip trout probably
I’m obsessed with the fishing aisle.
I love braid on my fishing setups and I also use it for beading in jewelry making
Good information! I haven’t had the privilege of catching crappie yet but I’m gathering all of your tips. Soon as I find a bank spot I’ll be ready!
Keep on truckin' Dee, we like all your vids!!
Thank you very much
Thanks for this video. I have been fishing one time and I have a friend that has been bugging the crap out of me to go fishing. So, I just bought my first fishing pole, but I need to get a tackle box next.
HA thats my set the Berkley and Abu..Used it for years and still do but now I wanna step it up to some higher end gear.
Thank you for making a video for those of us who don’t have $9,000,000.00 to blow on this stuff. Keep up the good and informative work my friend!

That 10 ft rod is used for pan fish when in boat you can put your rod up under over hanging trees close the bank fishing the sunkin structure

A bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work. I miss fishing.
