  • UN65KU7500 Samsung Curved TV White Spots problem overheating problem, melting problem. Burned/melted Light Diffuser.
    This is a BIG PROBLEM.
    1. To fix this unit, LCD SCREEN needs to be replaced (NOT ECONOMICAL if TV is out of warranty).
    2. Can this unit cause more damage (fire, burn etc).
    3. Does Samsung need to address this issue ASAP?
    4. Does Samsung need to recall this model (and maybe more edge lit models)?
This is a first unit we saw with this damage. We checked some sites and saw many pictures with the same symptoms. I decided to make this video in hope that owners of the same TV model will be aware of this issue. It may effect other Samsung KU models with edge lit backlight.

UE48JS9000 - same problem. It seems to start when there are minor cracks caused by the heat - these cracks then heat up more because they become a reflective surface that channels more light ..... over time the cracks get longer and the edges char.
First warning sign is small fine slightly brighter lines at the edge where the LED are...... very small to start with but will grow over time and spread along the edge...... the charring will then occur.
Once it starts there is no stopping it and eventually the edge/s where the first cracks appear will gradually worsen..... and the worse it gets the more heat gets channeled by the imperfections the quicker it gets even worse .... vicious circle of feedback effect.
Luckily I had a 6 year warranty ( thanks Richer Sounds U.K. ) and I got a full credit for the 2021 equivalent.
Don’t even have to return the old one so I had a look to see what the cause was.
The actual cause is the poor quality of the diffuser material - a better material that does not crack so easily would stop this in its tracks....... it’s the fine cracks that causes the hotspot that snowball into this problem.

Turn down your backlight level folks. Absolutely every TV I get for backlight replacement is set at 100%. No, it's not a fix. Nor is it excusing poor build quality, but it really does extend the life of the LEDs.

    • @ohger1

It's not a country problem, it's a consumer problem. When people buy a TV, they look at screen size and price. The marketplace demands shortcuts be made to make them cheaper. A TV can be built for about 50% more that will last 5X as long, but consumers won't buy them.

Is the curved TV strip different than the flat one? is it curved like the tv somehow or it's the same in both models and can be flexed a bit?

    • @guypatterson7334
      @guypatterson7334 Год назад +2

The curve is gentle. The new strips are not curved but they are held down with double sided tape. Just start at one end and slowly lay the strip in - it will form to the curve if you do it right. You must remove 110% of the old double sided tape from the heatsink - any fraction of tape not removed will prevent the new strip from making perfect flat thermal contact with the heatsink. The new strips will fail within hours.

Curved TVs use the same flat LCD displays that are installed in the flat models. They are flexible enough to bend when put into the curved frame, but they are far more stressed and easier to fracture than their flat counterparts.

My 43 had burned out led when I got it for cheap. They were beginning to melt and distort the diffuser panel. When I installed the new strips I sort of offset them a little so they shone through the unburned bit, and the picture is not bad. A bit of light peeps up but very little. Only see it on a solid color screen. Crappy design flaw though. I keep them at 50% now. I wonder if you could shave down the edge with a sander so it's a smooth leading edge?? 2mm would do it but I've yet to try it. Anyone have any tricks or tips??

Most tv's backlights are overdriven by factory settings and pushing the leds over their limits. They won't last unless you decrease the backlight intensity to about 50%. Mine I got it to 40% and image still quite bright, so why to keep it at a 100%?

OK, Samsung will replace the panel, including the Backlight, at no charge to the consumer. If you are a authorised Samsung service center, you need to tell the customer to contact Samsung customer service and apply for a 1 time courtesy repair. But inform the customer to make sure that they allow the customer to contact the customer relations management dept. This office is the only office a Samsung that has the authority to authorize the repair at no cost to the customer. We have done many of these and Samsung is the only company, that I am aware of, that will cover panel issues beyond the 1 year manufacturer's warranty.

When we got this set, it had no power. If customer will call Samsung with No power issue, they WON'T do anything. We had to open the panel, in order for us to see what is going on. In order for Samsung to fix/replace defective screen (as you say), customer needs to show the problem with the screen. How customer can do that if LEDS goes out and TV will not turn on? Good question, right? Samsung won't cover anything at this point.
As the service center, do we need to charge our customers to open their TVs and provide some pictures of the issue or we need to do this BIG job at no charge?
Check one of our videos (UN65JS8500 Samsung TV overheating/burning/ melting problem.). Customer called samsung and they did nothing for him. That is the reason we decided to make a video. Therefore, I will not agree with your last statement.
