    Great tips. I often do the palm test but as long as the gel and cream blend smoothly together regardless of if it's clear or white, it's usually going to be fine since it's common for the white to dry clear in my hair. But if during the palm test, the products clump together, then I don't bother attempting it in my hair.

    I totally agree that foaming doesn’t always equal flakes. I absolutely LOVE combining the Inspire By Made Beautiful kids line leave in with any Eco styler gel. That leave in foams like crazy, but it absorbs very well & very quickly in the hair & NEVER EVER flakes. It also helps my hair retain moisture with just those two products for a week or more.

    I don’t follow the LOC method, I do leave in then cream then gel, but when you said give your leave in time soak in, it dawned on me that maybe I should wait an hour to apply my gel instead of doing it right out of the shower. Then two I only notice flakes in the front but that’s where I apply the most gel. Mainly because my front tends to get frizzy fast. Great tips, thank you! 😊

    Awesome tips!
    I've realized that by styling my hair only when it's dripping wet/damp I prevent flakes/crumbs. To be honest the only thing I've gotten flakes with is Cantu products - they're just not good anymore. I use Eco Styler a lot but I always make sure to use it on properly moisturized hair - that oils tip definitely works wonders! Thanks!

      Chloé-Ana Braidy what product do you pair with Eco?

  • @khiofficial2900
    @khiofficial2900 6 лет назад +14

    A tip that I have is to not touch/stretch your hair much, if even at all, during the drying process. I've noticed that if I start the drying process and I touch my hair I would get flakes. I have done the same wash and go multiple times and noticed when I didn't touch my hair at all until it was dry, I had no flakes. But when I touched it or stretched it when wet it would flake up towards my roots. (I'm low porosity and my roots take forever to dry)
    However I do believe that sometimes flakes are a sign that your hair in specific may not like a product or specific ingredients in a product. For instance my hair doesn't like eco styler gel. It flakes no matter what. I've tried it all (leave ins. Oils. Both at once. The gel by itself. Using a little.) But always got flakes. I decided to try other products and my hair never gets flakes anymore. I'm currently using aunt Jackie don't shrink when I do use gel for extra hold. When I go back to eco. I get flakes. I've just taken it as a sign my hair doesn't like the products. The only one that's pretty do able from eco styler in my hair is the JBCO one.

    I am so big into seeing us (Black folks) using & proudly displaying our full, curly hair that can have body & bounce like yours. I'm new to letting my hair grow and making my curls hang downward instead of their natural inclination to stand tall (LOL). But leave in conditioner tends to stay white, and mouse tends to "crisp" up too much and I lose the length that I see with the leave in conditioner. Now I'm searching for a combo that will give me body, length and no crunchy crips or flakes.

    I bought softee hair growth oil at Walmart loved the product ,but not the smell. So I went to find another hair oil to replace it looking for something all natural and little to no odor. I picked up bronner brothers Jamaican black casor oil with rosemary hair oil for about two dollars more and 1 extra ounce. The oil had nothing artificial little to no smell. It came with a spray top, but I was able to replace it with the softee growth oil top and it fit well to use directly on the scalp. I looked at the ingredients that were great, but I itch when I use essential oils, but was hoping I would get lucky. I put this oil on my hair and scalp and it felt so refreshing and clean. I had a little product build up and flakes before using it , and I swear it ate it away in seconds leaving my hair shiny ,healthy and clean. One of the ingredients is eucalyptus and I think that had everything to do with it. I had to give the product up because I was a itchy mess, but this literally cleaned the build up and flakes away. Please try this product for that purpose if nothing else. It is a cure for this problem that happens to us all trying these products. I was amazed. Still in disbelief.

I never use eco styler gel because my hair does not like it. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that people experience flaking because I notice that it is mentioned amongst bloggers who frequently use eco styler gel.
