After discovering that the GT 710 is the second best selling graphics card on Amazon, I decided to see how far I can push the GT 710. Can it catch Intel's integrated graphics with a massive overclock?

If you got a drill & can tap screwholes you could probably stick on a heatsink from like an amd processor of some sort from when they used the mounting compatible between fm2+ too socket 939 & get fairly ridiculous cooling for it.
Though id also look into volt modding perhaps.
gt 710 overclocking contest from a few years ago has a guide.
      oc-esports.io/#!/article/3762/oc_esports_launches_cheapaz_chips_contest
      Guide for voltmodding gt 710
      forums.overclockers.com.au/threads/newlifes-gt-710-vmod-guide.1199017/
Latest one was apparently made april - june this year with the hd 5450 (volt mods needed ofc & any cooling allowed & any setup allowed on a basic cedar mill ati gpu chip.)
      oc-esports.io/#!/round/cheapaz_chips_s3
The one with the gt 1030 gddr5 was also impressive too see the numbers pushed out by those chips voltmodded.
the top team hit 3.0 ghz on the gpu core for one of the tests.
Though unfortunately couldn't keep it stable for long at those speeds so lowered too 2.67 ghz.
      oc-esports.io/#!/round/cheapaz_chips_s2
My favourite overclocking card has too be the 8500 gt ddr2 512 mb i got here.
(Accelero l2 pro from a dead hd 5750 on it atm so its nice & quiet.)
reaching 760 mhz stable on the core 1600 mhz shader & 430 mhz memory successfully running 3dmark 2001se. (score stock is 17367 - 17550 goes a bit between those two numbers on stock clock speeds in this)
Top score on a athlon II x3 450 & 4 gb ddr3 was 22255 3dmarks in 3dmark 2001se (could probably go higher with the i7 930 testrig i got now or if i put it into my current pc with an I5 2500 @ 3.9 ghz.)
Original clock speed on this 8500 gt is 439 mhz core, 918 mhz shader & 333 mhz memory so reached a decent speed on this.

      @SianaGearz 4 года назад +34

On the Kepler, there is for sure a firmware voltage limit, but the reason you don't see the voltage and power limit adjustment in MSI Afterburner in this video is that he probably forgot to enable the override/driver in the Afterburner settings, because it shouldn't have a hard locked voltage on the GPU, it should allow some adjustment with stock firmware. Naturally applying voltages and power limits higher than the firmware maximums will silently fail, but there is probably like 150-200mV actual adjustment in there and maybe 10% on the power limit.
With firmware mods, you should be able to get the voltage and power limit way up.

that option is locked out in the BIOS/FW of the card, and unless anyone who knows how to mod/rewrite fw is interested in doing so for CLOUT its not likely to happen. hardware modding is however always an option, i have a gt 710 laying around that i am not using but i dont wanna risk breaking it by modding without proper tools, ,mainly cause my every day gpu is a gts 240 OC'd and if that dies then i'll need that 710, and since i dont have the money to buy another GPU i cannot risk breaking it. if anyone wants to DM me and send me a card to mess around with id be more than happy to attempt hard and soft mods to it.

Cards like this are useful for systems that just do youtube playback, and/or you want to offload the system RAM otherwise dedicated to the Intel iGPU or GFX node of an AMD APU, or for a system that doesn't have integrated graphics. They're great for local decode for home media servers, as a GPU for a pro audio recording rig, or for an HTPC that you'll only be doing 1080p or 1440p playback of local or LAN stored files. They can also function as a dedicated PhysX processor paired with another nVidia DGPU, or with an AMD or Intel GPU if you hack the drivers. The problem is, these cards are NOT meant for gaming graphics, and they were NEVER intended for it.

Have you seen the movie Scary Movie? You know at one point where stoned they make prank calls? That's what I think the person who said the GT 710 is an overclocking beast which really shines at that point, was making as they were typing that.
I found it funny and thought to share my thought.
I mean yes percentage wise is an improvement, but...lol.

i think the main reason these are sold is because its better then the stock intel gfx, not on a 9900k but on something like a core 2 duo or core duo quad an shit like that, its for OLD pc's to be able to play dvd, encode video faster, etc, etc, not for gaming performance at least that's what i use these cards for and no to mention the HDMI output for newer monitors and tv's

With temps this low, you have leeway to push voltage like crazy. The series is easy to BIOS-mod to unlock the power and voltage limits, i had done so myself - naturally i didn't have a 710, but some other Kepler, and i mean 710 should be a true Kepler, right?

Do you think you could do a similar video to this but on the gtx 1030? Its only 30 dollars more expensive than the 710 but way newer and most likely a lot better. Do the benchmarks and overclock the hell out of it, to see if something like that can compete with intel integrated graphics. Love your videos, keep up the good work.

+Dawid Does Tech Stuff You have to realise that there are multiple versions of this card (which tends to be confusing) including a 2Gb DDR5 model, which is the one I have in my HTPC. And even though overall it is a very low powered card compared to most other GPUs, It does actually do much much better than the DDR3 or DDR4 versions.
I bought mine for $45 AUD off Ebay (also MSI brand with a fan, in as new condition) in order to improve video (and yes basic gaming) performance on an old Small Form Factor pre-built office PC (that has terrible integrated graphics but a decent CPU, i5 2500) and can only fit low profile cards. And it certainly has improved things in regards to video playback, emulation speed, and light gaming on older 3D titles. If you check RUclips you will see that the DDR5 version can surprisingly play more games than you would think.
I would never have purchased the non DDR 5 version because it barely would have made a difference, but now I have a card that is useful for my needs and had I not noticed could have easily bought one of the massively nerfed versions like what you have in this video and then effectively wasted my money. Which is what slot of people end up doing not realiseing how much difference the RAM makes. What doesn't help is that some retailers tend to be very lax in providing this information to customers.
Anyway, I watched both your videos on the by GT710 and I thought that that was something that needed to be noted in more detail for anyone who doesn't know more about this card and it's different versions and performance, because the difference between them (relatively speaking) is huge.
Here is a comparison between the gt730 DDR 3 and DDR 5 to see what I mean ruclips.net/video/OSCBgG9WBfw/видео.html

It probably sells so well because it's a cheap way to get a video output if your CPU has no iGPU. A lot of AMD CPUs lack one. It's also small enough to cram into some pretty tiny case sizes and you can get a used one for less than taking your family out to mcdonalds on ebay (cheapest I saw that was still claimed to be working is $10).
