      , she has a second win during her final turn.
      When she summons lily bell, playmaker should take 200 dmg from Holly angles effect and 200 from light stage. Holly gains the 200 from her effect making her stronger than driver. Holly angle attacks over drive, lily bell attacks for 1000 total bringing him down to 1400. Candina attacks for game, right? Let me know if I got anything wrong with effects but I'm pretty sure angle gains attacks off her own effect. She was cheated out if her win, assuming she runs 1 candina.

      @@Justicetom21 yeah, and if this was a real duel I'd agree, but it's the anime. Even if she had done that play, the writers would've made sure that Playmaker drew into another monster he could summon from Link Spider's effect and the Duel continues as it did. They'd have just needed to give him a way to regain LP so he didn't burn himself to death. But real duel, absolutely chaining Reincarnation to Spider would've been the correct play.

    5:12 There are 3 (likely) reasons, in universe-wise, why she didn't perform that play:
    #1- she didn't have the 3 lycoris in her deck: Like go Onizuka, it's likely her deck wasn't truly complete since Go could have summoned jet ogre and then great ogre and then continue the turn Like he did in the anime and he would have, in way way or another, have enough atk to win in one attack, so it's very likely she just didn't have them in her deck yet.
    #2- entertainment: Blue angel is first and foremost, a charisma duelist so her main objective is to entertain, and winning in 1⅕ of a turn isn't entertainment, as they didn't even have a single chance
    #3 she was being cautious: at this point in the show playmaker and his deck are still pretty unknown (around 14 main deck and 4 Ex deck cards revealed) while her deck is pretty well known due to her reputation, this is basically the equivalent of playing with your several months old deck while you're opponent has a deck that was just revealed and you have no idea how they play(and is good), and since she had been challenged by "playmaker" she had every reason to believe he might've had a plan to counter as, again, his deck is still a mystery and his deck hasn't shown a main strategy besides swarm which most vrains deck do by default...
    She believes that if she over commits she could lose but if she doesn't play she can't win so she goes with a combo that gives efficient offense while giving her efficient defense. Also note that lycoris effect activates AFTER the cards are added so if he drew a "handtrap" card(if he has one or not doesn't matter since these are the thoughts that could have come across her mind) then he could have negated the damage of one lycoris while likely still having low enough LP to activate storm access, so she waited for him to reduce his hand to avoid the SLIM CHANCE of drawing a hand trap.

      thats explain the playmaker duel, then explain why she doesnt win at other duel (just one or two iirc) then?
      I totally agree what you write about her in this.
      But the writer made her dirty, is also true. She deserve better writing as characters, and as duelist. And many female duelist in YGO deserved it also.

    • @drakeredgrave6747
      @drakeredgrave6747 4 месяца назад +4

      @@kaigaikarano100% agree that she, along with other female duelist, were done dirty. Unfortunately, that's what happens when they are competent and the antagonist(s) need someone competent to be a jobber since the main hero can't lose(because ygo)
      To answer your question, it's just plot(see the above), number 1 and 3. 2 doesn't apply since most duels after don't have an audience and are much more serious
      1- No deck is ever really complete, just constantly getting upgrades because marketing...and one more detail which coincides with the next
      3- like most duels ever that aren't rematches, they didn't know (or knew relatively little) about their opponents. The only people that Aoi had any info on was soulburner and to an extent bohman, both whom she and the rest had little knowledge about at the moment. In addition, something about the anime that many forget is that they tend to play pure archetypes and in a flexible manner since they can face any strategy at any moment, so (with the exception of judgment arrows) they couldn't just put certain "staples" and say that they are prepared...
      But again they were done dirty, the soulburner one is especially infuriating...

Aster was a pro duelist who longed his duel out as that is how he duels in the pro league to entertain the crowd. I feel Blue Angel was a more extreme versions of this. Analyzing the intervening parties protecting Celina to see if things could have gone smoother without potentially needing Reed and Trout to eat through the Obelisk Force's facedowns would be worthy pondering. As well as the fact that the Obelisk Force had one extra facedown than they should have, which gave them an edge they shouldn't have gotten.

On the other hand, all of her lost are against important/strong duelists which include 2 protags(Yusaku - she could have won, Takeru - this duel just awful since the writers gave Takeru a trap that can negate low burn damage and a spell that acts like super poly), a mini boss(Spectre) and 2 final boss(Bohman and Ai). Her boss duels are good though.

      @@nguyenthanhlong5536 Yes,. And unlike mots of the other female duelist the show didn't throw enough filler duels her way to improve her numbers of wins (granted she must gotten several wins as Blue Angel buliding her carrer before S1 plot, but she should gotten wins in meaningful duels against strong opponents that could even out: a rematch agaisnt Spectre in S2, or/and her dueling Roboppi instead of Soulburner).
      Just to point out, I don't follow the whole Win-Loss ratio as a definitive scale of duel skill, since it ignores context of the opponent type lots of time (something a lot of the fandom disregards often). The only other character with the closest thing to fighting the same type of opponents was Mai Valentine (and the Vrains roster in comparision were just as strong or even stronger than possible than possible DM counterparts).
      To make it even clearer, If Akiza (the more well treated FL, and that is saying something) dueled opponents in her series mirroring the same types as Aoi, in order, it would be like her dueling S1 Kiryu- she loses hard; Crow -loses, but almost wins; Aporia - she loses; finally Z-One- she loses, possibly stomped. But since these duels never occurred it doesn't feel like she was treated as bad Aoi was.

Now Sure,They Kind Of Did the Same Thing With Yusei,But It Was Fine That He Won Every Duel,Since He Was a Really Good Duelist and Played a Very Weak Deck In Hindsight,Making His Victories All the More Special.He Was Kind Of the Master Of Winning With Underdog Cards.But With Yusaku,They Didn't Do That.Yusaku Played the Most Broken-Ass Deck In the Real Life Format At the Time Of the Anime,Making His Wins Become Less and Less Interesting When His Deck Is Virtually Unstoppable and Practically Does the Work For Him.He Even SAYS That He CANNOT Afford To Lose Any Duels,Making Every Moment Where He Is On the Ropes Completely Pointless When You Know He's Just Going To Pull Through and Win Anyway. In My Opinion,Yusaku Might Just Be the Worst Yugioh Protagonist,and the Only Good Thing About Him Is His Backstory.

      Yea, I feel like when they put protagonists in spots where they can NEVER lose or something bad happens, it kinda ruins the fun back and forth of the game. They need to show the protagnists playing when it isn't a "fate of the entire world" or "life or death" scenario and have them lose to show them improving. Like Jaiden in GX, he lost a few times, but the main one was to Zane really early in season 1, then they show him actually making a tie with Zane, that was amaing. Because they established early on that Jaiden could potentially lose this since the world itself wasn't at stake and this was a guy he has lost to before, it made that entire duel, espeically the end AMAZING the first time I watched it as a kid coz I legit had no idea if Jaiden was going to win or not. Pretty sure they even had Yusei lose a few outside of the big bads, heck they had him lose to one of the Dark Signers and it was a bike failure that stopped him dying.
      Modern Yugioh protags who can't ever lose or something bad will happen are honestly a bit boring. I liked Zexal but as soon as it became Numbers vs Numbers, well I knew Yuma was gunna win because they established early on that if you lose Numbers vs Numbers, you lose all your Numbers but we knew those were Yuma's main strat so it meant those duels lost all tension. And I feel like Zexal was where they started the whole, "we can't ever have out main protag lose" bull.

    There was a very simple way for this to be explained without this being a massive misplay… a canon banlist. We know Firewall Dragon disappeared from the anime after it was banned, and that VRAINS’ Yugioh game is similarly structured to ours, so theoretically there should be a banlist here. If Lycoris was limited to one copy due to an anime banlist, and the show states that clearly, it doesn’t feel like Blue Angel was cheated out of a win against Playmaker.

      You are the first person I see pointing this out, and I agree 100% (I ALWAYS forget to bring this point when I comment).
      And this is would not be unusual for YGO anime: In GX they commented how Chaos Emperor Dragon was forbidden during that duel between Judai and the Yugi's copycat, and also during S1 most of the chaarcters used to play Pot of Greed, but when the card got banned in real life, they all stop playing it S2 onwards (if memory serves me).
      In Vrains they could have mentioned that in Speed Duels Lycoris is at 1. Also, that could justify why we never see her use something like Dark Room of Nightmares in her deck (with only 4000, I'll reckon people would at least limit it in the Vrains world. At least in Duel Links trickstar only do 100 points of damage).

    If I recall from your 'Statistically the Best' series, Alexis/Asuka came out on top of the female lead category - though based on the decks they use, it wouldn't be entirely indicative of how duels would play out.
    Could be an interesting analysis, seeing that a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh would know all manners of methods for crushing the competition with the archetypes in question, but what playstyle would those anime characters most likely use?

    lilybell effect: put lycoris back into the hand.
    lycoris hand effect: choose lilybell, special summon lycoris, lilybell back to hand.
    lilybell effect: special summon in attack. lilybell direct attack.
    playmaker lp 1200 - 800 = 600 - 200 (fieldspell) = lp 200
    lilybell effect: put candina back into the hand.
    blueangel endphase.

    Duel Monsters opening turns: "I set two cards face down. Then I summon Axe Guy in attack mode (Vanilla 1300.) I end my turn."
    Modern YGO opening turns: "I summon Super Duper Chartreuse XO 46 Dragon Buster Eraser Angelancer which allows me to chain summon two monsters from my deck. Its effect also allows me to special summon a monster from my hand, which bounces all my monsters back to my hand. When they're bounced, I can special summon them again, which allows me to draw a card for each special summon. You take 200 damage for each summon btw. I link summon four times and you have to discard a card from your hand for each time I attack (if I discard a card I can attack first turn btw). Then I play this spell which allows me to fuse all link monsters into a Fusion Link Xyz monster and attack you for double damage (since we're dueling on a Tuesday.) The only downside is I have to mill half my deck. A small price to pay! When my Mega Ultra Giga Flower Angel Dragon Cyber Fairy Demon Queen is sent to the grave from my deck I get to destroy all cards on the field and in all players' decks but I have to pay 5000 life points. I can also attack with her directly leaving you with only 100 life points left, and if I reduce your LP to below 500 you have to discard your whole hand. With no cards in your hand or deck and only 100 LP remaining, I end my turn. You can go :)"

    I posit she MAY have had Bella Madonna, she plays that in the next duel she's featured in, HOWEVER that duel was next arc, after a kind of time skip where most of the decks get beefed up. Including Playmaker's, even though that makes no sense since nobody's printing Cyberse cards anymore. So it's up in the air if she had Bella Madonna or not, but you could argue she did, since she's only been in two featured duels at this point, and they all end relatively quickly (including this one, as you stated). I'd say that it's in style for Blue Angel to not Link summon, even if she had it. Her duel style, at least until the Marincess flip, depends on that ping damage, and in this setup, the only two monsters that can pull it off are Lycoris and (insert Lilybell or Candina here, whichever one was that one I can't remember), between pinging for card draw and direct attack. Summoning Bella Madonna would require her to get rid of either both of the above, neutering her damage engine, or Holly Angel, which was the core of her board. Bella Madonna is stronger, but not by much, and has a much less synergistic effect with the other Trickstar cards, since its effects only activate at all if she's basically alone, as it will point at two of her three main monster zones. It's easy for someone in Blue Angel's position here to get psyched out by Playmaker's reputation and believe that he'd have a way to break the board of Bella Madonna. And she's a "duel diva", so she has to stick to her script, which is currently pinging away with Lycoris and Light Stage while playing keep away of the opponent's monsters with Holly Angel. It's really only there to be big and mean and discourage the opponent's plays, her core formula for victory is pinging the opponent into the ground. I'd have to say that in general, I find Bella Madonna to be quite clunky, since it takes a swarm archetype and says "you know what'd be fun? being told to have no other monsters on the field or none of my effects work :D"

    We know that Blue Angel had two lycoris's by the end of season 1 considering that during her duel with Spectre she tried to go for the exact combo you mentioned she could have used against playmaker in this duel. Spectre just had a counter trap ready to gain enough life points so the Lycoris's effects misfired horribly

    • @kitsu1379
      @kitsu1379 10 месяцев назад

      They do that a lot with Blue Angel/Girl/Maiden whatever you call her.
      They either have her misplay the deck to high heaven because the plot demands she lose against someone playing a deck she has no right to lost against or they put her against people who are specifically playing the perfect counter to her deck's playstyle so even if she is playing competently, she still looks like an idiot.

    I know people shit on Vrains because it trashed a lot of the side characters but in defense of the writing team lets say that they wrote in a Trickstar OTK and playmaker lost. Would that have been fun though? Remember, the primary purpose of the anime is to entertain and the character taking 4000 burn damage before they get to play would have been simply boring! I know you guys like Aoi but nobody would have preferred that turn. Another reason they didn't go for the OTK when writing this duel was because Link Summoning was very new at the time and they wanted to show off a new link monster to hype the audience up and get them more invested in link monsters. I get why people wanted Aoi to win here but I also 100% understand the decisions the writers made for this duel.
    If there is a duel they should have had Blue Angel win though it's her duel vs soul burner. Soul Burner didn't even need another win since he already wins 99% of his duels in the series, one lost really wouldn't have hurt him and would have made Blue Girls turn into blue Maiden feel more earned and legitimate.
    Also everyone keeps talking about Trickstar Diviridis, GUYS! That card didn't even exist when the duel came out!? How the fuck can you expect Blue Angel to summon a card that doesn't exist yet? That would be like critising Jaden for not fusion Summoning Elemental Hero Sunriser in his duel or some bonkers shit.

    • @FranciscoRamirez-nb4uu
      @FranciscoRamirez-nb4uu Год назад

      1- Vrains duels are basically OCG duels, is difficult to make them look fun, and we have the least charismatic protagonist in this show (and that doesn'tlike duels), if there is a mood they don't expect you to have, is fun.
      I think the OTK could work depending on how they write what comes after PM defeat, but they went the unbeatable route with him.
      2- About Link summon and hyping the audience... probably link summoning is the extra deck summon that looked the less special in the show since characters were summoning multiple links per turn getting rid of the weaker ones. In S2 all the characters had a bigger reaction to Fusión-Synchro-XYZ than to the main summon of the era.

    Idk if anyone mentioned it yet but there is yet another way she threw. On the penultimate turn, she could have summoned lilybell with reincarnation like normal then link off lycoris and holly into literally anything (IDK what all she had access to in her extra deck but i'm assuming at least it has another link 2 or link 3) then attack with lilybell and add back lycoris. After that use lycoris effect to summon itself by bouncing lilybell and then lilybell's effect would trigger allowing it to summon itself and attack again. That would leave play maker with 200 LP but when he draws for turn, lycoris would burn him for drawing and he would lose.

    It is kinda a shame since Aoi's whole character is "idol who has her head up her ass and having a brother complex" the show pretty much had every excuse to kick her down, despite having a good deck. Shame too since Trickstars were fun in making "death by a thousand cuts" viable.

    Pretty sure Blue Angel avoided an OTK because, as an Idol Duelist, that wouldn't be as entertaining (see Gore's comeback-centered playstyle), so she is not used to playing that way. She also didn't have a reason to play so hard against Playmaker either, instead she wanted a 'proper' Duel. Too bad she got Hannoi'd.

    Blue Angel is literally the Hanz Moleman of anime. She is constantly used, abused and she never wins a single duel in her series (iirc) and is never given a single chance to shine. I don't know who on the writing staff hated her, but god damn, even her event in Duel Links and the box her trickstars came out in were GARBAGE as hell.
