Just want to say THANK YOU for this video. Did this job a couple of weeks ago solely using this as a guide, this is by far the best resource I've found online for this job. Not nearly as scary as other folks on the internet make it out to be, and it solved my massive oil leak for a fraction the cost of a shop.
This is literally the best video on RUclips for replacing the sealant on a valve cover for a tsi engine. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this. I've got a Scirocco 2.0 tsi and I cannot find a workshop manual anywhere. I paid for haynes autofix which is a complete and utter waste of money. Save yourself £26 if you are thinking of getting this for your vehicle, it's rubbish.
Thank you so much for making this. I'm about to reseal the valve cover on my VW CC and finding this video has been a huge help in getting that process started.
Just did this job on my MK7 GTI, and I was freaking out when I put my valve cover back on and it wouldn’t sit flush onto the block. I realized the camshaft was just sitting up higher on the side near the HPFP. I started screwing the bolts in, starting from the passenger side, slowly, and the valve cover started pushing the camshaft down, and in the end, it all seated flush. Whew!! Freaked me out for a little while!!
Appreciate the vid! I got to removing my cover on my own then started freaking out a little when I seen the cams rising up when undoing the last few bolts
What was the result in your repair!? Everything was successful? Did you use all new cam cover bolts? All new gaskets? Want to do this job but scared to jump time
@@ExtremeAwareness All good on my end. Used all new bolts since its all tty type. used new gasket on the upper timing cover and red anaerobic sealant for cover (non OEM stuff)

Finding the right gaskets for the vacuum pump and upper timing case was a nightmare but I stuck with it and managed to get it done. Thanks again.

Depending on which gen 3 you have, if you have variable valve timing on the exhaust cam like the golf r or Gti have, the shop manual says you must remove the exhaust camshaft and place it in the cover when reinstalling the cover. The exhaust cam lobes need to be in a certain position and if you do it the way he did in this video it is possible to destroy the exhaust camshaft. Haven’t done one on an engine with vvt but I would assume it’s possible without removing the camshaft, just be extra careful and read the specifications for that engine.
