“It will make a fine addition to my collection” Thanks for the incredible review, been waiting for this set to be rereleased for years so it’s a definite buy for me.
I've wanted the 2003 version since I was a kid. As an adult I was willing to spend thousands to get it on the secondary market New In Box because it was always the one set that I wanted. I'm so happy they made a newer more detailed version. I have the UCS Millennium Falcon but, for me, the Star Destroyer is way more impressive of a display piece. I can't wait. Now to save up.
My only gripes are I wish the build had more snot technique. The build is truly beautiful. Huge and well detailed to boot the builder did a fantastic job.Minifigures dont care and interior I could even care less about .This is what a UCS should be.Well done lego.Is it worth 700 dollars.I think so.Its a gem.
I think you could definitely create a plate-based interior that branches out from the supporting technic structure. The only problem would maybe be weight, but from what I can tell, it seems like you can remove the top superstructure, which would let you get into the interior for at least a little bit of MOC detail, and it doesn't seem to take too much effort to do so.
Surprised at how impressive the old version is compared to the new for being over 15 years old- it makes the super star destroyer seem underwhelming. Great video, one of the first to actually build and get uploaded. You have a new fan!
Love the reviews David! I completely agree. It's not always about the piece count, its about the weight of the set as well and this set well deserves its price tag in that category.
Ok, so I can see your opinion, but realistically they can’t cover up those studs, otherwise you’d be paying effectively twice the price. Also, you complain about price, but again, this set is more massive compared to the Millennium Falcon, and sure, it doesn’t have nearly as many pieces, but it needs to have larger, more expensive pieces in order to cover that larger, more massive size.
Also the interior, again if you were willing to pay almost twice as much money, then be my guest. As for LEGO, they have to make this set large and detailed, but also at reasonable price for direct consumers.
Just got mine in the mail yesterday, can't wait to get started on it!!! Can't believe you can do an almost 5,000 piece build in 10 hours. That's insane!!!
For me it comes down to the minifigs. It needs a Vader, at LEAST. Maybe Captain Antilles, too. But we need more, and more important characters. As someone who likes Star Destroyers more than anything, I'm left thinking of the cantina set and all it's iconic figures. Many of us know Devastator is Vader's ship, but let's be frank here, it's not the ship that carries the infamy.
Good review. I'm glad to hear you mention value when talking about the process. I get that for some people the set is more valuable to them than the money they spent on it, which is fine, and that's really true for all things. I'm glad you were able to be objective about it, while most fans on either side of the discussion just scream that they're right. I still can't spend $700 on it. I've got the UCS Falcon, but that has much more emotional value. Id love to get it, someday, but doubt it'll be around by the time I have the space and money for it.
Great review, even though I already knew I was buying this you sold me the rest of the way. I think it's also worth pointing out, if I recall correctly (I was 11 when the original Star Destroyer was released), the original Star Destroyer was around 400 dollars. Adjusting for inflation, that price is worth between 550 and 750 dollars today....So despite the comparison to the Millennium Falcon, I feel this is a pretty fair price.

Really loved watching this review and speed build. I think the the best part of the review is how you explained the weight of the set to the price in my opinion it it’s a more accurate way of determining a sets value. With the UCS Millennium Falcon it cost about $53 for each pound that the set ways so taking into consideration that UCS Star Destroyer is only 2 pounds lighter it actually comes out to being right at $700 for the set and it’s weight. I can’t wait to get my hands on this set and display it next to the Millennium Falcon. 😁

Coming in super-late here, but just wanted to point something out. The reason the newer one looks the way it does is because the design team for it made it waaaay more screen and production-accurate than the one on the left. So, that "smushed-down" appearance you pointed out is because the command/crew superstructure is actually built closer to scale than the older ISD. I never got the older ISD, but just got the new one and started my build today.
Seeing your room for the first time O_O! Awesome. It truly looks incredible. Those minifigure suggestions would've been awesome, and I'm liking the idea of a mini-interior. The mini-series' of Lego already shows the high quality deco they can achieve with smaller pieces. I'm glad that collectors can see an increase in quality alongside price, even if they don't agree with the price, as long as quality rises as well and doesn't stagnate than I don't have an issue with it.
They should have made the trash chute thing in the back, (I doubt there is anything in there), and included a mini slave 1. Also they should of had a mini millennium falcon because of that scene where it lands behind the bridge to hide.
@@darthbane2669 no, it's just a logical joke... It's not smart to spend so much on Lego if you dont earn a lot of money. If you are not smart you have to work at MCD...

@Lp32R1VAL no he does care just not enough to spend an hour a day replying to comments, and he'd just be saying thanks most of the time, whats the point in that? He allready says thanks in his vids
Lp32R1VAL Jesus my dude, stop commenting on nearly every post saying “hE dOeSnT cArE”...boi, stop✋🏼his subs know they he cares, it’s people like you that try to ruin the channel, just stop🤦🏻♂️
Lp32R1VAL woah...I wonder what it means by 130,725 views...hmm, curious, hold on...I think it means that the channel isn’t ruined or dead, you’re sadly mistaken that the channel “ruined itself”, It could probably happen, if you keep coming along and talking shit about it, but I doubt it😬
I like how in the timelapse it looks like he is spazzing out
In the uk it’s £650, the same price as the millennium falcon
I like how in rogue one they made starfighters look both modern and dandy but at the same time looking kinda like plastic toys they used in OT
This set looks almost exactly like the scariff scene
Could you do a size comparison with the UCS Falcon please
Coming in super-late here, but just wanted to point something out. The reason the newer one looks the way it does is because the design team for it made it waaaay more screen and production-accurate than the one on the left. So, that "smushed-down" appearance you pointed out is because the command/crew superstructure is actually built closer to scale than the older ISD. I never got the older ISD, but just got the new one and started my build today.
I’m definitely going to buy this set👍🏽
Me too bro
Seeing your room for the first time O_O! Awesome. It truly looks incredible. Those minifigure suggestions would've been awesome, and I'm liking the idea of a mini-interior. The mini-series' of Lego already shows the high quality deco they can achieve with smaller pieces. I'm glad that collectors can see an increase in quality alongside price, even if they don't agree with the price, as long as quality rises as well and doesn't stagnate than I don't have an issue with it.
Will Smith be like:

*dAtS hOt*
They should have made the trash chute thing in the back, (I doubt there is anything in there), and included a mini slave 1. Also they should of had a mini millennium falcon because of that scene where it lands behind the bridge to hide.
it being so empty inside means a lot of people will try to make lighting kits i bet...especially with fiber optics
That's what I was thinking. How could would the engines look lit up?
19:10 also note that the pressure points are smaller on the falcon so that makes it look heavier on weighters
You don’t care about the price cos you got it for free 😂😂
I work at McDonalds and I'm buying it so
@@quigondeathsound , explains why you work at McDonalds ;)
@@HR-yd5ib That was a dick thing to say where do you work peasant?
@@darthbane2669 no, it's just a logical joke... It's not smart to spend so much on Lego if you dont earn a lot of money. If you are not smart you have to work at MCD...
InternetGoblin bruh most people first job is at mc d
I got this for Christmas yesterday and I’m so excited to finish building it! I’m done with the first 5 bags so far and it is absolutely humongous
was it a difficult build? or do u have no regrets and was it a fun enjoyable build
I wasn’t too happy with the price, but after ur review I realize why the Star Destroyer is at $700. I’m a big Star Destroyer fan, I might consider getting this set. But I’ll wait to see if the price goes down.
It won't unfortunately. These sets get retired after a certain time and will actually go up in price cause they will be hard to get after that. So if you want to get one, now would probably be better than later.
I have a plug so I can get it for 50% off, but even these it's so expensive, I've moved onto gundam model kits, more bang for your buck than Lego
I would like to see a conversion of the Devastator to become the Chimera. It would be very interesting to see how lego would do the design on the Hull of the ship for Grand Admiral Thrawn's Flagship.
Your review is making me try to figure out how to afford this 🤣😩
Brick Change Productions Have you ever collected coins?
Brian Orozco I have not... might have to work another job 😬
Simple, make a popular RUclips channel and get Lego to sponsor you. Lol
After the UCS Y-Wing I've certainly gained an interest in UCS sets in general. If I ever get the chance I'll definitely pick this one up.
It looks like Star Wars
David Haul, 2019 :D
This is my favourite ship in the SW universe - and this Lego set is stunning.
I just had a great idea for a moc. Fondor Shipyard
Why are there yellow blue and red bricks in this set though like seriously can someone explain this to me
If they were all the same color it would be harder to determine the difference and you would have to count more often it it’s a specific color it’s that size
Doesn’t worth $700. If I get this for free like u do, I will try to sell it as well.
true, it´s almost as expensive as the millenium falcon but much less pieces, only 2 figures and no interior
This has a lot more bigger pieces, price per part doesn’t matter imo.
Watching this review made me realize how much I actually wanna get this set in the future. Great video and review as always David!! :)
Is there a room where you can Display it coming with it ?🤤🤤🤤
I want this so bad. It's glorious! I have the millennium falcon and I look at that everyday. Lego is really upping their game with these UCS sets.
