  • In this video, our volunteer Fabio Malaspina shows you how to tie a "Beetle" dry fly. This is an attractor fly that you can use to target trout, panfish, and carp. For panfish, you may want to splash the fly on top of the water and give it a little twitch.
    Materials list:
Thread: 70 or 6/0 denier black
Hook: Curved dry fly hook size 12 to 16. In the video, I used a size Daiichi 1160 hook.
Over and underbody: Black foam about 4 mm wide. You can use 2 or 3 mm thick foam.
    Thorax: Peacock herl fiber
Indicator tag: Yellow or orange foam about 2 mm wide. You can use 2 or 3 mm thick foam.
Fly tying skill set rating = Easy
