  • In this video, our volunteer Fabio Malaspina shows you how to tie a "Green Butt Skunk". It was developed by Dan Callaghan sometime after 1950. He took the original Skunk steelhead fly and added the green butt.
    Use this fly to target steelhead. You can dead drift under an indicator or swing it. Tie it on your tippet using a "non-slip knot" to give the fly more motion.
    Materials list:
    Thread: Black thread 6/0
    Hook: Any Salmon hook size # 2 - #6
    Tail: A clump of red hackle/Schlappen
    Butt: Chartreuse chenille small to medium or Chartreuse floss
    Body: Black chenille smal to medium or Black floss
    Wire: Silver French Tinsel - Medium
    Hackle: Black hackle or Schlappen
    Wing: White calf tail
    Fly tying skill set rating = Intermediate+
