Great video-and thanks for the shout-out! That's a great catch that Jerren is a fellow Tarnished; off the top of my head, that probably explains why Sellen was locked up so close to where all the other Tarnished left the Lands Between to cross the Sea of Fog. And I still can't get over the fact that Jerren was oath-bound to stop Sellen, give Radahn a honorable death, AND serve Mohg as a Bloody Finger...

It makes me think that wearing a mask is significant because it hides the fact that someone can be Tarnished and maybe that is why we see many masked faces in the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer.

Absolutely wonderful video! I love the verbiage used within ER to describe its characters. Witch-Hunter Jerren is referred to as a tumbleweed (Jeremiah 17:6 "He's like a tumbleweed on the prairie, out of touch with the good earth. He lives rootless and aimless in a land where nothing grows."), while Ijii refers to Sellen as a Carian weed. A weed is a plant considered undesirable in a particular situation, growing where it conflicts with human preferences, needs, or goals (e.g. Queen Rennala’s view of practicing the primeval current as a forbidden tradition). Interestingly the only other mention that I've found of weeds is referring to Deathroot.
Side note the leg armor that Jerren uses are dubbed the Eccentric's Breeches. Breeches are an article of clothing covering the body from the waist down, with separate coverings for each leg, usually stopping just below the knee, though in some cases reaching to the ankles. The singular form of the word has survived in the sense of the part of the body covered by breeches; paradoxically, the alliterative expression "bare breech" thus means without any inner or outer breeches. This also led to the following word breech birth in childbirth.
A breech birth is when a baby is born bottom first instead of head first, as is normal. Due to their higher than average rate of possible complications for the baby, breech births are generally considered higher risk. In twin pregnancies, it is very common for one or both babies to be in the breech position. Most often twin babies do not have the chance to turn around because they are born prematurely.
Obviously Jerren's leg armor could just be a reference to an old style of clothing, but it could also be a reference to child birth, as this is a key theme within ER.

As I mentioned in my previous feedback, this version is the best. Featuring only your voice and gameplay/screenshots makes it more professional and easier to understand. Helps to focus. Ending with a short message from you adds a cool and personal touch. I personally like this the most. Looking forward to the Farum Azula Video! 🙌

The Farum Azula video will still have facecam but I made the editing more streamlined and based it off of topics and not just what we see in the level.
I am working on the script for The Eclipse video sequel so that will probably be a video you will enjoy the most, whenever that is finished!

I love Sellan and her questline. I never could side with Jeran despite him being a pretty honorable dude. Love your videos man. I wanted to share something ive found too. I have really been in the camp of Messmer being in on the conquest of the fire giants. You may have already noticed youreself but on the giant wicker man from the dlc trailer there is actually a decapitated head of a fire giant on it. Ive been going back through the game with a fine tooth comb trying to find any possible connections to the DLC. Beside the shaded castle there are a ton of statues that are discarded and seemingly purposely destroyed. The statues are of a veiled woman who i think looks really similar to the veiled woman in the portrait from the DLC trailer. The other statues are of an androgenous figure, not sure who, possibly Messmer? The last statue is a small child veiled like the woman but shes carrying a book. I found it interesting, you may want to take a look. I also was rewatching your eclipse video and the thought occurred to me, with the next context of Messmer being a child of Marika, is there any way Miquella could have been refering to Messmer and not Godwyn in discussion of the eclipse. There may be evidence I'm missing but the ghost there says something about a forgotton or abandoned child of Marika. Also at castle Sol there is a headless corps of a demigod theyre trying to resurrect. Since we know where Godwyns body is at the roots of the Erdtree, is there any way all this could refer to Messmer. I've been deep in the weeds speculating and tossing spagetti to see what sticks. I love your takes on the lore and have really looked forward to and enjoyed your videos. Hope you may have found some of this interesting and maybe youll find it to be worth taking a look at. Great short snd sweet video!

My theory is that Jerren is an agent of the Formless Mother. Assuming he is a Tarnished, he was stripped of Grace by Marika and abandoned by Godfrey. He was forlorn and vulnerable, and this is when the Mother came to him with temptation and a mask to wear. He swore an oath and fates were set in motion. Jerren's function was now to insert himself in positions of power in every war and maneuver a win for his Mother. I don't fully understand what the Formless Mother wants the world to look like but it seems to have to do with corruption, subversion, destruction, and blood (maybe war and mass death too).
Jerren played several different roles on different sides throughout the years. He first made a deal with Seluvis, sacrificing his maiden (Therolina) to sick puppetry in exchange for a consulting position with the Carians (but reporting to Seluvis who had his own ambitions). Later, when the Carians lost the wars for...reasons...was when he jumped ship and went to work for Radahn. With Radahn's study and conquering of the stars Jerren's main mission became to kill Radahn and ensure that his Mother could move freely in the world again. A couple things happened when we killed Radahn that are pertinent to this Jerren questline in our playthrough:
    1. The stars (and their Outsider influences) were free to move again (in opposition to the Golden Order which held them in place to maintain the laws of causality and regression)
    2. Jerren was free of his obligation to help Radahn die and returned to subduing his rival Sellen (preventing her from taking over the academy, which itself rivals the Formless Mother if fully unleashed)
    a. Notice that I said the word "subdue." Jerren looked to stop Sellen somehow but that didn't necessarily mean killing her. She could be a very useful asset as well if converted to a weak state.
As we worked with with Sellen we got skills and experience needed to become Elden Lord, and in turn she returned to her plan: returning to the Academy and taking it over, out of the Golden Order's influence for good. What Sellen didn't know was that the Academy was actually being steered by Ranni now, not the Golden Order ("Do you see this? The Queen of Caria is no more"). Sellen thought Rennala would be a powerful obstacle and trained us to fight her. But, whether or not we killed Rennala, the Rennala we fought was merely a contrivance of Ranni. Either Rennala was already dead a long time or she was being held in waiting for a later purpose (that's a whole other set of theories). Either way Rennala was not in the picture anymore, which was surprising to Sellen but ultimately she dismissed it as the fact didn't seem to affect her takeover and she was excited to be in charge.
Leading up to her takeover Sellen helped us fight the Red Wolf, and waited until a few more pieces were in place before returning to the Academy to begin her "installation" in the library. By this point we helped Jerren kill Radahn, helped Seluvis make some new puppets (allegedly), and helped Sellen learn a bunch of insane magic and unalive herself in order to gain a new fate. What if her new fate wasn't the one she banked on, the one she bargained with Seluvis for? What if Seluvis was also playing Sellen, tempting her with power in order to make a Sellen puppet and take over the Academy himself once she awoke? Sellen knew that she had to die, as part of her fate, and she knew that Seluvis would tell her when it was time to get the *ball* rolling again (she didn't know she would become a ball though). She waited such a long time for someone to kill Radahn, she trained Tarnished sorcerers outside the Academy and none of them had done it yet, and she probably became a little impatient, and then sad about it. Radahn just wouldn't die, even with the Rot. So when we showed up to give her Seluvis's letter, it was unexpected, and reminded her that yeah she was still in for a world of pain and hurt. Her time had finally come if she wanted to be in power of the Academy ("Well, well...Seluvis is not a name I ever wanted to hear again...But, fine."). Seluvis was a preceptor, he could read the stars like a book, so it's not hard to imagine that he thought he was playing everybody here. Actually it was Ranni playing both Sellen and Seluvis, and the Formless Mother playing everyone.
So Sellen waited for Jerren and her fate ("Jerren, bringer of my death. You have my gratitude. For freeing me from my shackles"). She chained herself up in the Witchbane Ruins and put a Graven School outside so that it would attract him, and in the meantime secreted her primal glintstone to a new body with our help. Jerren "took the bait", merely following the path of his own fate, and killed Sellen's body, allowing her to awaken in Seluvis's secret basement and return to the Academy which is now unlocked and cleared up to the library. When we returned to the Academy to meet her, we learned about her true fate, and Jerren's.
We were presented with a choice outside the doors:
    1. Help Jerren kill Sellen
    2. Assist Sellen and vanquish Jerren.
At first it seemed like we were choosing to help one or the other win in a duel, but what if that was not the full picture? What if the dice were loaded? If we choose option 1, the outcome is obvious: Sellen dies again and Jerren takes her primal glintstone and she doesn't get control over the Academy. That's a win for the Formless Mother, who doesn't want to oppose the full power of primal glintstone. Jerren waits outside the library and congratulates us.
Option 2, is really interesting. If we assist Sellen and vanquish Jerren, we return to our world to see that Sellen stands victorious in the middle of the room and offers the allegiance of the Academy to the ascendant Elden Lord (us), implying also that we would remember to favor her once we take charge. She is gassed. She gives us a cool knife and everything seems like a happy ending. Rennala is crying in the corner. But, sit at the Grace and everything is undone. Sellen turned into a Graven Mage school. Rennala sits in the center of the room again and everything is mostly as it was. Sellen now seemingly remains as a lesson to those who cross the real power in the Academy (Ranni, or maybe the Formless Mother?) and pursue their own ambitions.
How did this happen? How did it go from happy ending to horrible ending so quickly? Well, Jerren was a plant the whole time, everywhere he went, knowingly or unknowingly. With our help he killed Sellen's body, to get her a new fate via one of Seluvis's puppets, and then Jerren knew that he had to die fighting Sellen, or if he didn't know then he was put in that position to do so. In as many worlds as possible (I think of the invasion system as sort of a multiverse) his fate is to oppose and subdue Sellen. So in option 2 he invaded, we killed him, and Sellen didn't hesitate to incorporate his essence into her new school ("Join the school. To reflect on your mistake"). This implies that not only is she incorporating his essence into her new school, but that he made a mistake in opposing her, possibly she knows his true allegiances. Jerren wanted this, because his master The Formless Mother wanted this. When Jerren died and Sellen incorporated him to her school, she unwittingly incorporated a corrupting Outside influence into her new Academy (avarice, pride, bloodlust?), much more powerful than her, which is why her Academy failed, she became a slave, and the true power of the primal current wasn't unleashed.
So that is why Sellen's victory is a hollow one and her state changed almost instantaneously. All it took was one instance of bad thinking, her ambition, for it to be a simple math problem for fate to resolve. It's a lesson to those with ambitions to challenge greater powers in the universe without protection or care for the outcome. At her highest point of elation, when she was congratulating us and making promises of allegiance and giving us gifts, that is when she was deepest in delusion. So if you think about it there was never really a choice of who we assist because Sellen could never have never won. I can't wait to see what role Jerren will play in the DLC.

I think she was just a scholar of the Academy who surpassed all her contemporaries, and was able to request high position within the academy (she has her own painting).
I haven’t played the quest in a a while, but I think her distaste for the Carians began when she was banned from the Academy after attempting to glimpse into the Primeval Current (heretical in the rules of the academy). She thinks everyone is limited by the rules of the Carians and the Academy.
And the reason for why Jerren is antagonised by her, calling her a “witch”, is because he is Carian-associated - and the Carians own the academy - and the academy bans practice of such heresy

Another person mentioned that she could have been another Carian Princess, where I think it is possible, but Sellen doesn't speak about the Carians with any familia relation nor does she follow the Carian naming convention.
