    It makes more financial sense for Universal to keep Marvel from Disney World than to lose it in order to retain rights to the Simpsons. Giving up Marvel would give their competition so much more power than they already have. Losing the Simpsons means a retheme of 1 main screen ride, a spinner, and a food court. Losing Marvel ensures that more travelers will spend days at WDW, instead of possibly coming to Uni for a few days.

      Definitely agree, just bring back Back To The Future the ride. It still has a very big fan base and could introduce new people to the franchise. Hell why not just replace all of Kidzone and make an entire Spielberg land and add that area to it. Bring back Jaws, maybe make a Close Encounters Of The Third Kind ride? Or they could just add that Pokémon area and replace the Simpsons with that, but that would be going against the idea of a “studio park” more and more, since the entire Pokémon brand isn’t even a major movie franchise yet (Detective Pikachu is a more franchise spin off)

      110% agree. I love Simpsons Land but the Simpsons as a franchise are dead compared to Marvel. Universal keeping the rights to Marvel in Florida has got to be like spitting right in the eye of the big mouse at this point. They'd be nuts to lose that IP.

As much as I would love for six flags to get a win with a full on immersive dc land (And they can’t be cheap with it ) after seeing how universal has handles Nintendo and Harry Potter , I feel like universal would handle it and give the land the live that it deserves.(Literally funny because I thought of this topic a few days ago😂)

      The only way Six Flags does it right is if the company is bought up by AT&T. If AT&T ever decided they TRULY wanted to compete in this market with Universal and Disney they would be ideally positioned to do so with a Six Flags acquisition. The interesting part about that fantasy idea is that WB also owns the rights to..... The Lord of the Rings..... (well the movie rights anyway). Let's all sit back and think about what a LOTR themed area would be like if done to the quality level of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Paired with DC that's one hell of a one two punch and oh yeah they'd still have the rights to Looney Toones as well probably the second most recognizable cartoons on the planet behind the big mouse IP. I keep pushing this idea because I'd love to see it happen. Doesn't mean it will of course....

It’s seems entirely possible that once the WB/Discovery merger finalizes and they start a bidding war Comcast will go all in on it, possibly why they’re biding their time as this would be a Disney/21 a century Fox level acquisition. Would IOA, USF, and the soon-to-be EU have Warner Bros. Discovery IP in their parks? Or would they make a whole park of this IP on its own? According to Theme Park Stop, there just might be enough land southeast of EU to make a fourth gate. Your thoughts?

      Oh, absolutely; Scooby-Doo deserves to have a more prominent presence in American parks, especially after being left for dead by Cedar Fair in the late 2000's.
      Not only is the franchise as a whole practically immortal, but so is its status as a thematic main-stay during the TAFT and Paramount tenures of King's Island+Dominion+Canada's Wonderland.
      Then again, what of Hanna-Barbera characters in general? Flintstones, Jetsons, Yogi Bear; most of these were left effectively orphaned due to management shuffling of what are now Cedar Fair parks. There's an untapped nostalgia vein with these characters; not solely for the series' alone, but (again) their well-remembered presence across parks.
      Warner Bros. Abu Dhabi is a shining, albeit out-of-country example of what could be done with the ex-studio's back-catalogue.
      And that's not even getting into other odds and ends of long-gone parks that featuted these characters; like Frontier Village in San Jose, or Hanna-Barbera Land in Houston-
      Point being, TL;DR, Hanna-Barbera characters deserve a triumphant return to prominence as a desirable theme park IP. It's been done before, it can be done again.

    There’s prolly something in the Marvel contract that would never allow them to have both. They’re competing brands, they can’t market them together and they could never favor one over the other. That’s how licensing works. Harry Potter being in multiple parks works cuz it’s the same property

    The concept art for a DC land for Islands of Adventure looked awesome so sure, why not.
    Simpsons has had it's best years behind them and the old Back to the Future ride is ready to retire so I expect it to go and Universal will be fine with that.
    Marvel isn't going anywhere (thank god, look what crap Disney build for their ip in DL) as it isn't costing Universal a dime (except a percentage for merch). Sure when the thing is milked dead by Disney they will have a change to buy it but I doubt it.

    I think a movie-based Gotham/Metropolis land would fit perfectly where Simpson’s is located with a vekoma launched flying coaster, a Batman vs villains dark ride and of course a justice league stunt show. I don’t think a comic style land would work as a) it would be too similar to six flags and b) it would be too similar to marvel land. For 2029/30 it would be the perfect time for an expansion as it would be a good 5 years after epic universe opens

    I don’t think Universal could have DC and Marvel in the same park, that would likely violate the original licensing agreement Universal made with Marvel. But, I would love to see Universal trade the Marvel rights for Simpsons and then acquire DC. Then we could have both major theme parks fully develop attractions based on both major comic book companies with no restrictions.

    There are some problems when it comes to people arguing “Why don’t they build this? They should replace this with this. Etc, Etc.” We forget to think about how much these expansions cost to design, build and run as well as the cost to run the rest of the resort itself. You also have to think of getting people in on your pre existing attractions, besides one big reason Universal brought in WWHP was due to the decline of attendance of the parks following 9/11. There are many more reasons too.

    I like the idea of a Warner Bros World in Orlando. Let's see: WarnerMedia wants to enter the theme park industry, but has been very meticulous and slow for them. I don't blame them, they want to do it well and without attracting so much attention, they know that easily anything they do will be compared to Disney and Universal, for good or bad. Also because they do not have the experience of the sector. However, they already have three theme parks, at least under licenses and part of the profit. But nothing even within the USA, I think they can follow the formula they made with the Abu Dhabi park, an indoor park with different wings for different IPs, including their DC.
    I say Abu Dhabi as an example because it would be a good option for Orlando, something different, they do not need the mega park with a lagoon and infinite parking, like Disney and Universal. People would like something smaller, with AC and light to walk in an intermediate day between two other large parks. In addition, in Waner Bros World AB they demonstrated that they can do quality things of a good level and in a relatively small space (important thing for the availability of land, cost and construction in today's Orlando). And I'm sure they would do even better being in Orlando.
    They know that Universal would do a great job with DC. Just like they did with Harry Potter. But thinking in the long term, money and knowing that it is its own content, I think it would not be crazy to think of its own park in Orlando, at least something more humble (but well done) compared to the others.

    • @MkR2398
      @MkR2398 Год назад

      Yes and no. If you were WB and Universal is building up what you consider one of if not your marque IP and wants to do it with your absolute marque IP in Batman/Superman/Justice League in the same way, why not? You get a WB theme park in Orlando that's quality without putting in your own money and getting mostly profits/percentages from it. It's easy money, good for the brands/WB's reputation and gives you a stronghold on a rival entertainment company. It's smooth like butter

  • @MCLegoboy
    @MCLegoboy 2 года назад +2

    Honestly, I've always thought that ever since Disney acquired Marvel and the MCU just exploded in popularity, that should the contracts expire that Marvel would become DC. I mean, what is Six Flags really going to do about it? Yeah, contracts, but that's when Universal calls up Warner, asks for the rights, they contact Six Flags, renegotiate, and then Universal does DC while Six Flags can still just keep their thinly themed rides.
    Hulk is easy enough to paint blue and red and make into a Superman ride. Spider-Man would literally just need a Batman reskin, don't even change much of the narrative or locations, just get rid of anything screaming New York and you've got a winner. Doctor Doom screams some sort of Joker thing. The remaining thing is Storm's spinning whatever, and I don't know what you put there because Wonder Woman is the next most popular character, but that ride doesn't really fit for her unless you say it's Linda Carter spinning around, which, that's kind of a lame thing to do for such an iconic character at a theme park. For some reason, I always come to Flash and something with the cosmic treadmill since is keeps getting faster and faster, and it's a more iconic pick for a character than Red Tornado despite that being the most appropriate choice given the nature of the ride. Not to mention, there's this amphitheater thing just outside the land that I've literally never seen any showtimes or listings for that could make room for another ride. And maybe it's just me, but I almost never bother with shops or food at theme parks, and there's so much walking through stuff in the back half of Superhero Landing that feels like it could be used for other rides or something.
    Honestly, until the MCU came around, Marvel characters, while popular, don't have the name recognition of the DC characters. They had a thirty year jump on most of the Marvel characters to ingrain themselves into American Pop Culture. Superman (and Supergirl), Batman (and the Bat Family and his Rogues Gallery), Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, everybody knows of them, and then you have them form the Justice League, and if you want, throw in Martian Manhunter and a Hawkman or Hawkgirl when the League's formed. At Marvel, Spider-Man is the face of the company, Hulk is popular because he had a show in the 80s, and the X-Men blew up in the 80s and 90s (of which, the most popular is Wolverine), then you have the Fantastic Four and everybody else that make up a rotating team of Avengers. It just makes sense that DC would work better because there's more names to pull from and make attractions out of that just wasn't very accessible with Marvel back in the 90s when Islands of Adventure was made. Nobody was going to be making a Captain America, Iron Man, or Thor ride at that time, however they were represented in the area and with character interactions, so it's not like they were totally absent.
    I mean, I still love Marvel Superhero Landing, but it's mostly for Spider-Man, and I'm not even a crazy DC fan, but there's just something about Universal making something based on the DC properties that gets me excited. Even with as cheap as I'm going about it by just repainting everything, like, oh no, it's closed for a month while they repaint and remove some big character cutouts and put up new ones, but the experiences are still relatively unchanged which means it's not a total loss of your favorite attractions like it has been in a lot of cases at Universal's parks. I see it as a win if Universal got DC.

    Universal should sell the park rights of Simpsons to Disney, then buy Dc from six flags and replace simpsons and maybe everything up to ET with a DC land. Make it Gotham city, or half dark Gotham and bright metropolis. They could maybe put the Hall of Justice in the middle and it can be a Justice League ride. Sort of the equivalent of gringotts. In the Gotham half, they can have a Batman ride, which the queue can be the bat cave. Then the metropolis side can have a Superman ride where the Queue is the daily planet. Still I wouldn’t take the chance. You could argue Marvel is bigger than Harry Potter at this moment. It’s definitely close. It’s just not worth letting Disney own the theme park rides. It will be interesting in seeing how Guardians of the Galaxy does in EPCOT. If that brings in a lot of people and actually pulls Universal attendance. That could change things. Idk what the contract says but I think Universal might want to consider building a new Marvel ride within the next 5 years. Just because people get bored with the same old thing. I’m not sure where they would put it though if it was possible. Spider-Man is a great ride still and they have upgraded the Hulk. They’re still the same rides though. Time can also kill an attraction. A lot of variables definitely go into all of this. I’m sure Universal has a plan of sorts for it all. I just can’t imagine that it has anything to do with Disney getting the rights.

    OOOOOOOHHOHOOHOH BOY.
    i always loved the history of DC presence in universal parks,i loved the og ideas and how those ideas became marvel super hero island,the most curious thing of the idea about a DC island instead of marvel,would have been the HHN presence in their 12th event at IOA,you instead of carnage the use of a villian like...joker or bane,as a house based on the event knightfall or arkham asylum a serious house on serious earth,so yeah sorry for that,back to the main argument,DONT theme it to the movies,theme it to the comics,even if it has a diferent tone to hero island since that was a tribute to the camp of 90s comics,this DC land would be based on the most modern comics,ooohh also make or retheme a restaurant to "planet krypton" from kingdom come.

      You know government has to approve these purchases and mergers to prevent potential monopoly violations and Comcast merging with Discovery, Warner or anything else right now would be turned down instantly for taking too large of market share. After Disney and Fox, no big five studios will pass merging.

    If I were Warner Brothers in this position, I would still let Six Flags have the DC rights because they pay an annual fee to have this property in their parks. With Universal also theoretically paying this fee, it would basically just be free money for Warner Bros. Six Flags won't be able to argue with them because they are too over reliant on them for their themes. And Universal won't argue with Warner Bros because that defeats the whole point in the business deal.

      For many rides this is mostly true, but for rides like Justice League: Battle for Metropolis and the Dark Knight Coaster, they would need to be completely gutted. Adding all this up across 50+ attractions, lands, and shops, Six Flags would still certainly be looking at a hefty to price to pay even with some “cheap” rethemes

    Personally, I think Universal would be more interested in Star Trek and Lord of the Rings than trying to go through the headache of getting DC from Six Flags. Also, I think retheming Toon Lagoon to Spongebob would be really smart, especially with the water attractions.
    Also, I know my pfp makes me biased, but I'd like to see some anime/manga themed land in an American park. Anime is becoming more mainstream and would attract many teens and young adults.

    • @AttractionIdeas
      @AttractionIdeas  2 года назад +1

      Unfortunately, Lord of the Rings would probably be just as difficult if not more difficult to acquire with the Tolkien estate being very picky with how they license the property. That being said, since they’ve been able to please JK Rowling and Nintendo, it’s still certainly possible. Star Trek would be easier to acquire though I’m not sure they would want it given the fact Disney has the more popular space franchise in Star Wars. But after the somewhat underwhelming response to Galaxy’s Edge, maybe Star Trek could give Universal a shot to undercut Disney by making a better, more immersive land while also being more true to the source material

    After the Six Flags agreement expires, Universal should expand their agreement with Warner Bros, at they already have an agreement over Harry Potter. Universal could build a DC area in both California and Florida because honestly Universal doesn't need Marvel. I personally could see this happen, just give it at least 10 years. DC could finally get the popularity it deserves. Right now, with movies like Black Adam and Shazam Fury of the Gods, its just going to be the beginning. I love Marvel films but the recent ones (after no way home), and recent Disney films too are such ass if I'm being honest. Universal if finally stepping up its game with upcoming Epic Universe in 2025, and with rise in attendance, again, a DC area could potentially happen and I would love to go there.

    Honestly Universal buying the DC theme park brand during the 2027-8 expiration window and keeping Marvel there would be a killing blow to Disney in Florida since they can make so much theming going on with it like Marvel vs DC with both properties facing each other on both sides of the park. You also got the Super Mario Land also on its way which helps Universal even further.

  • @KyleBurrows83

    Here is what i think would make the most sense but is highly unlikely….
    Sell the marvel rights back to disney, use some on the money to offer a similar deal with DC (allowing 6 flags to keep their current deal in those specific locations) and the rest to update marvel island...
    Marvel island becomes Gotham, completely devoted to batman who has the strongest IP across both franchises in my opinion.
    The hulk becomes the bat plane launching out of the bat cave through Gotham,
    Spiderman becomes a batman dark ride…there isnt a better superhero character for a dark ride!
    Dr doom - 2 face falls
    Storm force - Mr freeze cups...something like that
    re-open the theatre for a batman stage show.
    Universal can then turn other lands at IOA or epic universal into other specific DC characters with a justice league head quarter at Epic Universe.
    Disney then go off and make their own marvel land in florida and universal, disney, 6 flags and Orlando all benefit.
