Really love the honest review. I think you speak for many people when you say LRLL is one of the weaker arcs. Aokiji's back must hurt a lot after carrying this arc through the final lap. 😂
@@GavinReadsItAll The importance of the smaller, weaker arcs hasn't been revealed yet to the fullest even in the latest chapters. Some arcs are so out of place at first glance and almost never mentioned afterwards, but later in the story Oda reveal some clues regarding possible significance of particular parts of the story and odd details for manga on a bigger scale. He's weaving the plot so well many details remain either unnoticed by the majority of readers or so small that they make sense only you come across other pieces of the lore =)

There is no LRLL arc, W7 or Enies Lobby arc or Post Enies Lobby arc.. They are all 1 story arc.. everything start in LRLL and complete and coming to full circle in post Enies Lobby part of the arc ... Thinking that LRLL only as an arc or W7 or enies Lobby as an arc is just absurd because each of them are incomplete.. its like watching half of a movie... And this is one of the main problen of this community.. and it happen to much later arc/saga.. Fandom selfishly dividing and arc without care about whether it should be split or not, whether the plot or story is already complete or not. And then complain when it doesn't go their way.. Skypiea is one of the most important arc in OP, not only for it relevency to the CORE plot of OP but also because it embodies what true OP(the story, not the treasure) as a story.. A lot of setup, slow pacing, tons of characters, plot and mysteries, tons of weird and trolling jokes, history, flow of time, inherited will, people dream and pursuing freedom... And in the end, all of that comes back full circle and connects to each other..

Within last year I came across some theories that gave me more hints and material for my own theories. Later I've learned I wasn't the only one who came to the same or very similar conclusions. And now it's just blowing my mind how ridiculously important the LRLL might be. There are no proves, only hints, but maaaan XD
40:50 THAT was what blew my brains when I was reading this arc. Who is this guy that reduced ROBIN, not just your random character, but Nico Robin, the one who introduced herself as a spy and assassin, second in command to a Warlord, completely fine with betraying that Warlord, and fully ready to die back in Alabasta, into a quivering mess. She is fully badass, and just seeing Aokiji made her a scared blob. THAT FUCKING SCARED ME!
Oda is a writer who absolutely understands tension. Stories can't keep going up and up and up, they will lose the audience. Having the action cut away to something less intense or taking a break for an arc like this, makes the peak moments feel earned. I see a lot of complaints that Oda kills the momentum of his fights by cutting away so much, but I feel that if he didn't do that then they would get tedious and not as anticipated as they are.
Something important from the Davy back fight no one but MelonTeee has mentioned is that the Zoro and Sanji vs the foxy pirates is the first time Zoro actively asks for help and it's the first time Zoro and Sanji are actively working together and off each other and it's what helps build them up as Luffys right and left hand!
I honestly think that Oda gave us Long Ring Long Land as a kind of "rest" arc, something goofy and weird to relax a bit after having finished a saga as long as Skypeia The anime sins by adding several filler episodes but it also gave us some moments of Robin taking care of Chopper in a very maternal way, so that's really cute
I gotta say, I actually like the Long Ring Long Land arc. Foxy is such a dumb fun villain. Interesting lore on the Davey Back fight. I think of it like Pirates if the Caribbean in that there's a code for pirates and its not just killing and fighting. Imagine so many other random pirate crews in this kind of contest. I can see pirate crews that are friendly with each other having a 'fight' like this instead of a real fight. It's an easy excuse for some contests and a fun party.
"HUGE SPOILERY THEORY" I really hope that Luffy and Shanks do a Davy Back Fight someday. It would be a great call back to this arc, and as you said it, it would be a fun friendly competition between Luffy and Shanks, and it would be a way to "defeat" Shanks crew in a fun way.
Aokiji was the best part for sure but I loved the banter between Zoro And Sanji in there game. I can never get enough of those 2 always fighting with each other.
I love their banter because, as shown in his arc as well, they can set is aside and work together when needed. You can see moments that, despite their annoyance at times, they absolutely respect each other as well.
The conclusion you arrived at the end of the arc, about how each Strawhat is important and the crew couldn't go on even if only one of them left is so so true! And it is the message you should carry on into the next arc.
This arc provides few things, awesome comedy, refresher arc and crew interactions. What’s surprising to me is, as you progress in the story you will know. Ppl complain most about lack of crew interactions but the 2 arcs that provide it in spades are considered the worst arcs

I feel this arc gets better when you look back at it 100, 200 chapters from now. When you look back and see it as a nice arc to hang out with the crew together.
LRLL is one of those arcs that you appreciate more in hindsight, and it's not representative of the Water 7/Enies Lobby arc at all, haha. Between Skypeia's complicated themes, and the dark places Water 7/Enies Lobby go, it's like a nice little fun break between all the serious arcs so you don't get overwhelmed or worn down by all the heavy topics one after the other.
I do understand the lackluster of this arc however in hindsight it does set a theme for the saga which you will see later on (and you will because the wrap up of this video is totally on point). And recently there’s a new theory involving this arc by Dak’s Sake which I encourage you to see once you’re caught up. And for the next arc, I really hope you’ll check out the official digital colored version of the manga since it looks stunning in color.
LRLL was definitely not my favorite arc, don't get me wrong. But I do have an appreciation for these arcs after watching Murphy's videos. She mentioned that she sometimes likes it when the crew can just be themselves, things don't need to be high stakes and we just get almost a slice of life time with them. That makes me enjoy these fillers more.

This is so funny to me hearing your thoughts and reading all these comments because I actually really like this arc compared to the previous one. I really didnt like Skypiea. I had to take a 5 month break from from reading One Piece after because I was so scared I didn't like One Piece anymore. But I was instantly back into it with Long Ring Long Land.

Long Ring Long Land is one of the weakest arcs but it was there to establish the interaction of the crew at the beginning and the end. The emotional state Ussop and Robin is set in place before moving into water 7.
Its definetly not the most focused arc. I really like the role it plays in the series, being more querky and focusing a lot on interactions between the characters and gags.
I havent watched the video yet but wanna say I initially started one piece a decade ago. Got to this arc. And dropped it. And didn't pick it up again till this past summer. LRLL holds a place of hatred in my heart cause it stopped my younger self from being able to have read this series for the past decade.

For some Nakamas, LRLL casts doubt on One Piece's quality, but that's the exciting part because it takes you by surprise. Starting with Water Seven, the intensity is unprecedented. Pay attention and be prepared. There's a reason why One Piece has such a huge fan base. Patience is one of the key to enjoying this story.✌️
At the time of writing, while there have been implications, there is a very likely possibility that LRLL has yet to pay off in the manga (not talking about Aokiji).
Totally agree with you. Didn't like the arc eather but I think the introduction of Admiral Aokiji is important and the foreshadowing for Robin's whole story is interesting as well. So I'm exited for the next arc. 🤍✖️
I rather hated the Davy Back fight when I first read through it. The tension and very idea of gambling friends away stressed me out through what should have been a silly, fun time. But reading it through every time after that, I had an easier time with it. Probably because i no longer had to worry about what the results would be and was able to enjoy it for what it was, lol.
Spot on about Long Ring Long Land, some people like the goofy dolt Foxy but he wasn't really for me either, definitely the low point of the first 500 or so chapters for me too and it's only up from here! Can't wait for next video!

In case your interested. There are 3 Devil fruit class's Zoan types: As you know are animal tranformations Logia types: natural element powers. Plus intangle (Smoker, Ace, Crocodile, Eneru, Aokiji) Paramecia types: Everthing else.
I am just starting the video but I have to say we all hate the Foxy filler arc so do not worry but you have to give a shot to the original audio when watchingthe anime, watch it with subs, the cast is AWESOME and you just can't feel the same emotions they portray in japanese with the dub version They even dubbed the openings I cant believe it (face palm) Hope you give it a chance, you'll not regret it The foxy arc is not good but at least it was a good way to relax a little and be ready for what was coming later A lot of us don't like this arc but can you believe there's people who dislike Skypea arc, some even decided to skip it and in recent chapters they got to know it was SO IMPORTANT and had to come back and read it lol

If you like the Davy Back fights like I do, I would recommend the foxy filler where we get 3 more games. I won't spoil them but it has the exact same energy.
Lrll stressed me out so much when I first watched. I tried to enjoy it again when I rewatched the series, but I just couldn't. I do like foxy he gives team rocket vibes. And i I wasn't aware that the dubbed anime had dubbed song intros also.

This arc holds a lot of things that we will understand in the future and later be referenced. Oda really is the type to hide significant details in what visually looks like the least significant arcs. I don’t want to spoil anything buuuut LRLL is where those who live there feel FREE
I loved this arc so much, maybe it wasn't super impactful, but I just had so much fun with it! I reminded me of the old days... foxy is one of my most hated characters tho (not that he's badly written, he's just incredibly annoying and stupid - but it works well)
Please prepare your mind and heart for the upcoming rollercoaster of emotions that will attack you when you get to the water seven and ernies lobby arc...you will be crushed by lots of different types of emotions...
I read this ark when I was like 12? (I am 26 now!) I really loved it! Till this day I think it is a very funny arc 🤣 But I guess it is mostly because of nostalgia! I get why many people don't like it as much. But if I am being honest the interactions with Foxy and how stupid evil he is just too funny for me 😅
I think in general the consensus on first read of LRLL arc is that it's pretty disappointing overall. It's a bit rougher in the Anime too because they pad it out so for a lot of people who watched it first it gets remembered even worse. But hey don't worry, this is very easily the low point of the water 7 saga, I've got no doubt you're gonna love the rest of it.
it's totally okay to not love an arc or parts of the story. LRLL isn't my favorite either. G-8 and LRLL for me is just fun and funny, sort of like a breather after the epicness and intenseness of Skypiea. (with Aokiji bringing in the seriousness in the end of course). next is the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs, which made One Piece my most favorite manga series ever. Also my most favorite arcs in One Piece :) buckle up, you're in for an epic and emotional ride!
Yea LRLL might not be the most interesting but if we look at it for what it is i do think it was needed for future set up and a breather from like the 80+ chapters that was skypiea and transitioning into another saga that is W7 saga.
I'm not a big fan of G8, too. I usually just skip it with other filler. Regarding the Long-Ring-Long-Land Arc, I always consider the Foxy part filler and basically just skip it in a re-read. Some of it is really fun, especially the Zoro & Sanji Team! Aokiji is easily the best part of this arc. Even though this wasn't the best arc, I'm 100% positive you will love the rest of this saga!
@@KruseControlThe whole english cast is extremly talented and they clearly give it their all in their respective roles, but personally im not the biggest fan of the casting, idk, Doflamingo for example, Robert McCollum, extremly talented voice actor, I adore his performance as Reiner in Aot, but I'm sorry his voice does not fit Doflamingo, especially when compared to Tanaka Hideyuki's take (tho I might be a little biased because Hideyuki is one of my all time favourite voice actors lol). Nah, I’ve watched the majority of the show in both sub and dub and I put them on pretty equal ground. Some characters are a bit better in sub and some are a bit better in dub. Both are great overall.
One Piece arcs can be kinda like Jojo Parts in that Oda will change up the settings, themes, and genres so often that it is as you said, not all arcs will be expected to work for everyone. It also means every arc has its lovers and haters. That said, if it makes you feel better Gavin, Long Ring Long Land is pretty consistently ranked as one of the lowest arcs in One Piece. Some people really enjoyed the fun but a lot of people were meh on it. It also didn't help that the anime stretched it to twice as long by doubling the games with filler (six games instead of three). I personally think it is just okay. It's a good break arc to give us some time and space between Skypiea and the Water 7 Saga really kicking into gear. Many people often don't really consider it part of the saga (though it is) or forget about it because other than the Aokiji showing up at the end, it doesn't super clearly connect to the next arcs in the saga. I would argue that Long Ring Long Land does set up a lot and introduce many of the important themes of the saga and lays some important thematic groundwork which it was nice to see you astutely pick up on, but I understand if people don't think of it as part of the Water 7 Saga. I usually don't mentally include it myself when talking about the saga. If you liked those last three chapters then I do believe you will love the rest of the saga like I do (it's my personal favorite). They are much more indicative of the kind of story we will be diving into this saga.
I was honestly worried about posting this because it's the first time I've been pretty negative about One Piece and I avoid all other reviews in case of spoilers so I had NO IDEA how people felt about this arc, I'm relieved

It's fine if you didn't love it, most people feel the same hahah (when people hype water7 they don't talk about this but just the main 2 arcs in this saga). I think the biggest reason why this arc isn't liked, is the change of tone, like we've just been to such a grandiose and epic arc like Skypea to such an unserious one with probably the worse antagonist, if you wanna call him one lol . And probably like you could feel the main plot (leaving the Aokiji stuff out) adds basically nothing to the bigger plot and story of One Piece. I am sure you'll like whan will be next, don't lose hope, cause there will be so much more greatness in the next arcs that you'll probably feel overwhelmed.

The vast majority are with you on your opinion. That One Piece fans continue to be fans in spite of this arc (and some other arcs/sequences) speaks to this series’ highs.
I recommend watching the anime eps in japanese, the JP voices are iconic and the voice acting is much better than the eng dub. Some key scenes in the following arcs should definitely be experienced in JP.
Imo In terms of anime, English dub does not have that powerful voice acting like japanese. Might be convenient for you to watch it in English but do check out Japanese ones too

I always forget this arc exists, haha. I never rewatch it. But I think it has its place, in hindsight. It's kind of like a palate cleanser.

OP readers learned to never underestimate this man's storytelling skills XD I think there shouldn't be any spoilers, if someone would wanted to explain some possible connections with the rest of the story here, maybe only minor once that person may skip without revealing too much, but I personally think it's better to dive into theories only after catching up with the story.

Lowkey LLRL is so underrated.. It's one of the best setup arc for a saga, so many foreshadowing for the plot in the next two arc and fun read overall
This is so funny to me hearing your thoughts and reading all these comments because I actually really like this arc compared to the previous one. I really didnt like Skypiea. I had to take a 5 month break from from reading One Piece after because I was so scared I didn't like One Piece anymore. But I was instantly back into it with Long Ring Long Land.

Long Ring Long Land is one of the weakest arcs but it was there to establish the interaction of the crew at the beginning and the end. The emotional state Ussop and Robin is set in place before moving into water 7.
Pretty sure it was stated by someone(Smoker or Tashigi?) in Alabasta arc why she got her bounty when she was 8

Its definetly not the most focused arc. I really like the role it plays in the series, being more querky and focusing a lot on interactions between the characters and gags.

LRLL is a fun idea for an arc, it just would have been a much better fit before Jaya to acclimate Robin to the crew
I havent watched the video yet but wanna say I initially started one piece a decade ago. Got to this arc. And dropped it. And didn't pick it up again till this past summer. LRLL holds a place of hatred in my heart cause it stopped my younger self from being able to have read this series for the past decade.

You read the subtitles at the same time as you're watching the animation, not instead of. It's just a question of getting into the habit, it's not hard (barring reading difficulties like dyslexia and similar of course).

For some Nakamas, LRLL casts doubt on One Piece's quality, but that's the exciting part because it takes you by surprise. Starting with Water Seven, the intensity is unprecedented. Pay attention and be prepared. There's a reason why One Piece has such a huge fan base. Patience is one of the key to enjoying this story.✌️
Great insight on the straw hats needing each other especially on their roles on the ship. This will reflect on the Water 7 Saga.
My suggestion for water 7 would be to slow down a little bit. Don't rush to read next chapter, take it all in and think about it.

Totally agree with you. Didn't like the arc eather but I think the introduction of Admiral Aokiji is important and the foreshadowing for Robin's whole story is interesting as well.

I rather hated the Davy Back fight when I first read through it. The tension and very idea of gambling friends away stressed me out through what should have been a silly, fun time. But reading it through every time after that, I had an easier time with it. Probably because i no longer had to worry about what the results would be and was able to enjoy it for what it was, lol.

I am just starting the video but I have to say we all hate the Foxy filler arc so do not worry but you have to give a shot to the original audio when watchingthe anime, watch it with subs, the cast is AWESOME and you just can't feel the same emotions they portray in japanese with the dub version
They even dubbed the openings I cant believe it (face palm)

If you like the Davy Back fights like I do, I would recommend the foxy filler where we get 3 more games. I won't spoil them but it has the exact same energy.

Lrll stressed me out so much when I first watched. I tried to enjoy it again when I rewatched the series, but I just couldn't. I do like foxy he gives team rocket vibes. And i I wasn't aware that the dubbed anime had dubbed song intros also.

This arc holds a lot of things that we will understand in the future and later be referenced. Oda really is the type to hide significant details in what visually looks like the least significant arcs. I don’t want to spoil anything buuuut LRLL is where those who live there feel FREE

I loved this arc so much, maybe it wasn't super impactful, but I just had so much fun with it! I reminded me of the old days... foxy is one of my most hated characters tho (not that he's badly written, he's just incredibly annoying and stupid - but it works well)

I read this ark when I was like 12? (I am 26 now!) I really loved it! Till this day I think it is a very funny arc 🤣 But I guess it is mostly because of nostalgia! I get why many people don't like it as much. But if I am being honest the interactions with Foxy and how stupid evil he is just too funny for me 😅
I think in general the consensus on first read of LRLL arc is that it's pretty disappointing overall. It's a bit rougher in the Anime too because they pad it out so for a lot of people who watched it first it gets remembered even worse. But hey don't worry, this is very easily the low point of the water 7 saga, I've got no doubt you're gonna love the rest of it.
it's totally okay to not love an arc or parts of the story. LRLL isn't my favorite either. G-8 and LRLL for me is just fun and funny, sort of like a breather after the epicness and intenseness of Skypiea. (with Aokiji bringing in the seriousness in the end of course).
next is the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs, which made One Piece my most favorite manga series ever. Also my most favorite arcs in One Piece :)

Yea LRLL might not be the most interesting but if we look at it for what it is i do think it was needed for future set up and a breather from like the 80+ chapters that was skypiea and transitioning into another saga that is W7 saga.
The only thing that matters in this arc really is the introduction to the Davy back fight and Mr ice cold himself Aokiji

I'm not a big fan of G8, too. I usually just skip it with other filler.
Regarding the Long-Ring-Long-Land Arc, I always consider the Foxy part filler and basically just skip it in a re-read. Some of it is really fun, especially the Zoro & Sanji Team! Aokiji is easily the best part of this arc.
Even though this wasn't the best arc, I'm 100% positive you will love the rest of this saga!
Watching with the english dub really doesnt do the series justice. The japanese VO's are goated and truly ARE those characters.

Funi’s voice actors do a great job. I watch both dub and sub and both are perfectly good ways to experience the series.
@@KruseControlThe whole english cast is extremly talented and they clearly give it their all in their respective roles, but personally im not the biggest fan of the casting, idk, Doflamingo for example, Robert McCollum, extremly talented voice actor, I adore his performance as Reiner in Aot, but I'm sorry his voice does not fit Doflamingo, especially when compared to Tanaka Hideyuki's take (tho I might be a little biased because Hideyuki is one of my all time favourite voice actors lol).
Again, absolutely not the voice actors fault, I just think they would be better in diffrent roles :}

Nah, I’ve watched the majority of the show in both sub and dub and I put them on pretty equal ground. Some characters are a bit better in sub and some are a bit better in dub. Both are great overall.
One Piece arcs can be kinda like Jojo Parts in that Oda will change up the settings, themes, and genres so often that it is as you said, not all arcs will be expected to work for everyone. It also means every arc has its lovers and haters.
That said, if it makes you feel better Gavin, Long Ring Long Land is pretty consistently ranked as one of the lowest arcs in One Piece. Some people really enjoyed the fun but a lot of people were meh on it. It also didn't help that the anime stretched it to twice as long by doubling the games with filler (six games instead of three).
I personally think it is just okay. It's a good break arc to give us some time and space between Skypiea and the Water 7 Saga really kicking into gear. Many people often don't really consider it part of the saga (though it is) or forget about it because other than the Aokiji showing up at the end, it doesn't super clearly connect to the next arcs in the saga.
I would argue that Long Ring Long Land does set up a lot and introduce many of the important themes of the saga and lays some important thematic groundwork which it was nice to see you astutely pick up on, but I understand if people don't think of it as part of the Water 7 Saga. I usually don't mentally include it myself when talking about the saga.
If you liked those last three chapters then I do believe you will love the rest of the saga like I do (it's my personal favorite). They are much more indicative of the kind of story we will be diving into this saga.

The foxy stuff was weak but there needed to have a down moment between what happened and what will happen.
Honestly the anime is more fun. There's stakes left in the final fight. U get more fun games. And there's a lil extra about Shelly and tonjit

It's fine if you didn't love it, most people feel the same hahah (when people hype water7 they don't talk about this but just the main 2 arcs in this saga). I think the biggest reason why this arc isn't liked, is the change of tone, like we've just been to such a grandiose and epic arc like Skypea to such an unserious one with probably the worse antagonist, if you wanna call him one lol . And probably like you could feel the main plot (leaving the Aokiji stuff out) adds basically nothing to the bigger plot and story of One Piece.
I am sure you'll like whan will be next, don't lose hope, cause there will be so much more greatness in the next arcs that you'll probably feel overwhelmed.

But I am seeing now how important this arc is, and I can't wait for you to catch up and witness how Oda put the most significant details in the story in the most insignificant arc of the story
The vast majority are with you on your opinion. That One Piece fans continue to be fans in spite of this arc (and some other arcs/sequences) speaks to this series’ highs.

I recommend watching the anime eps in japanese, the JP voices are iconic and the voice acting is much better than the eng dub. Some key scenes in the following arcs should definitely be experienced in JP.
Imo In terms of anime, English dub does not have that powerful voice acting like japanese. Might be convenient for you to watch it in English but do check out Japanese ones too

Yesssss! Yeah LRLL is the only arc I suggest skipping (especially in the anime… they padded it out so hard and it was so bad)
