Something neat Zoro says in this arc is that he only sleeps if he feels safe about his surroundings. Which says something about how much he trusts everyone else to handle the ship if he can sleep through a storm like he did earlier. It's a bit of characterization that even pays off in the arc that just ended in the currently releasing manga.
When I heard that I thought to myself "Actually usually peoples first times through one piece are probably their quickest read" Cause rereading there are so many details you pick back up on and will be like "Wait this is mentioned here?!?!"
It looks like your covers have the foil on them. For those that don't know, early one piece printings had foil on the covers until Viz stopped doing it to save money. They're sought after by collectors so it's pretty cool that the person you bought them off of had the fancy versions.
Actually Nami had the same idea as Zoro (that they were getting scammed) Nami pretended to sleep just like Zoro but unlike Zoro who chose to physically confront the bounty hunters, Nami wanted to eavesdrop and gather information before making her presence known Also Nami teasingly told Zoro that she also couldve drank more too (much to zoro's chagrin lol) Usopp, Sanji, and Luffy fell for the scam Also note that this is the beginning of the first big narrative saga in the grandline and that the chaacters the author used to start this storyline is the first 2 strawhats: Luffy, Zoro, and Nami You will continue to find that the author loves going to this trio in particular whenever the crew has to make important decisions or at the start of any given saga The author does this because Zoro and Nami are the best two voices that Luffy has to hear Zoro is more on the same wavelength with Luffy when it comes to competitive stuff like tackling a warlord of the sea while Nami is the more cautious voice of reason (she's the one that doesnt initially want to go after Croc) However, just like u pointed out, Nami might be cautious and a bit scared of the powerful forces in the grandline but at the end of the day, just like the other strawhats, she respects admirable ppl and is willing to help/ befriend them Vivi, after Igram exploded, bit her lip to steel herself. Nami saw that and instantly recognized the grandness of her spirit and her strength, which is why she ends warms up to Vivi Also Nami isn't always just the voice of reason. She's also more sympathetic than Zoro so sometimes Luffy will heed Zoro's advice and sometimes he will heed Nami Basically Nami and Zoro give two very opposite and helpful perspectives for Luffy to ponder Look at Nami and Zoro and u can tell that they're opposites. Nami's defining skill is her intellectual navigational genius while Zoro is a directional-challenged swordsmanship-obsessed warrior

He's a very honorable person as you've seen with his fight against mihawk (he never backs down and always keeps his promises). He's someone who always keeps everyone(including himself) in check if anyone is stepping out of line(in behavior or authority).
As the show goes on you will always see the longer the crew is with Luffy the more they respect him. Like each one would lay their lives on the line for each other which eally goes to show the Nakama spirit that Oda describes as people closer than Family.
So now you know the identity of Mr 0 to be Crocodile. Like you said he is a Warlord but did you remember that Mihawk is a Warlord as well? And we remember how that meeting went... Lovely review always a pleasure watching someone fall in love with One Piece. It only gets better.
When I showed a friend of mine one piece, he picked it up and finished it up to about 970ish chapters in about a month. I will say, it is not an easy thing to do. He pretty much was binge reading it. I would say a two week challenge would, without a doubt be a difficult speed run for One Piece, assuming that you're really taking in the material and examining it. (which I know you're doing right now obviously, perhaps in a speedrun reread that'd be different.)
Absolutely! I made an effort to catch up with One Piece this June and it took me the entire month, reading somewhere in the realm of 50 chapters a day, with about a week away from the series around chapter 600. How I wish I'd have slowed down and read 3 chapters a day over a year instead haha
Gavin has really fallen into One Piece series so fun. Whiskey Peak arc is lot of surprises revealed at once. Cool reveal Miss Wednesday was Vivi princess of Alabasta. Oda originally just had Miss Wednesday be side character, however made her Vivi cause with hair down she looked princess like. Hope you enjoy next arc Gavin.

Luffy didn't destroy the Eternal Pose because he didn't trust Miss All Sundays, he destroyed it because he is the one to decide the course of the ship since he is the captain, not anyone else. Also it's "Seven Warlords of the sea" not "Warlords of the seven seas" XD I also loved the comedy of the Luffy vs Zoro fight, though thematically it clashes a little with Arlong Park where Luffy absolutely trusted Nami e refused to believe that she might have betrayed them. If you enjoy One Piece so far, you are in for a wild ride! It's nice to see a reaction chapter by chapter, but I'm not sure how that is going to work out for arcs with 50+ chapters... well, One Piece fans don't mind looking videos from what I saw on other channels!
Ahhh I got the seven warlords thing all muddled up 😅 I should remember going forward. I’ve never read something with so much rich world building before, and so many different things to remember, but I’m loving the experience of everything being thrown at me haha
@@GavinReadsItAll That's not an issue, and everybody get a few things mixed up the first time. And look, there is stuff in this early sagas that people thought was something or even nothing at all, then 20 years later Oda drops new bombshells and we go all like "oh, THAT is what it was!". It's one of the things that makes re-read so much enjoyable.
A suggestion would maybe be for the longer arcs to say what your thinking after 5 -10 chapters, although for the short arcs chapter by chapter is fine. I love your videos and welcome to the one piece journey!
I prefer to have the fresh reactions after every chapter. Increasing the amount of chapters just to save time will only lessen the experience in the long run imo.
Luffy vs Zoro is generally viewed as out of character for Luffy by most fans. There's a common theory that Oda's editor got him to add the fight because a lot of Manga readers are powerscallers who like seeing who is stronger than who.
Yeah, Luffy is my favorite character of all time in all of media. But that fight is so out of character that this arc is at the very bottom of my arc tier list for that reason alone (otherwise it would be really short and fun imo)
@@benediktmathes2528 I didn't like that fight and as a then anime watcher thought it was filler. Still didn't make it the arc at the bottom. The only 2 arcs I haven't enjoyed in One Piece anime wise (none in manga I don't like, just don't really love them there) are Syrup Village and Long Ring Island.

It's still among the worse OP arcs, but it's just a fun short clowning around arc. So it's bearable... plus the stuff at the end with that one person that I don't wanna spoil :D
My head cannon is that the inworld explanation is that Luffy was just drunk and he is a mean drunk... And chose to fight Zoro for the "kind" people... I mean...they were trying to get them drunk so even if Luffy did not want to drink they just spiked other drinks...

The Luffy/Zoro fight in this arc is so funny, I loved it. I was laughing the whole time then when he realises what's happened at the end he's like, 'well why didn't you say something?' I lost it 😂🤦♀
i actually wrote a uni essay the 4kids dub of the one piece anime for one of my translation modules, and while the 4kids version of the scene where igaram goes didnt make me feel much, the original made me WEEP on rewatch. the way vivi is trying so hard to just. be a princess and stay strong and keep it together, biting her lip so hard she bleeds and nami immediately recognises this and goes in for the reassurance 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 i love name and vivi so much oh my god. keep an eye on how nami talks about vivi in the coming arcs (and vice versa) theyre so Good
I've been a fan of One Piece for 7 years now, and the first video of your read-through popped up on my feed, and I'm so glad it did! It's so fun seeing someone who's not very used to reading manga experiencing the wacky world of One Piece for the first time. Plus, you're an adult, so it may be harder to suspend your disbelief in some parts of the series. But I can tell that you're getting used to it, and I promise it's only getting better from here. @@GavinReadsItAll I won't say too much, just that there's a few arcs (not sagas! )reaching triple digits. The most recent arc took Oda 4 years to complete.
From the Alabasta Saga onward, every saga has mini arcs and major arcs that have 4 or more volumes so i suggest that you do the chapter format like how you do here for the mini arcs, and for the major arcs you go to the volume format like how you did for the east blue saga.
@@nvyqc Why wouldn't it work? One video can cover the chapters of one volume for example. So much of the initial thoughts and feelings is lost if you only review volume by volume. But that's just my opinion, glad he's at least doing chapter by chapter atm :)
@@Julleppi one video for one volume is crazy, if he likes the chapter format then just do a couple volumes in a video and review them chapter by chapter. all im saying is it wouldnt be efficient for him to pack a whole arc in one video if the arc is 150 chapters long...a whole 14 volumes

Whisky Peak was my first exposure to One Piece (in the Viz monthly Shonen Jump about fifteen years ago). Zoro was so cool in it that it was my favourite series straight away :)

One piece reading challenge sounds fun but I feel like I HAVE to warn you...as the series goes on Oda starts getting more and more ambitious and so while each volume is roughly the same size, the pages starts slowly getting denser and denser with more and more content to absorb, more panels shoved in, etc as the scope of the story goes so there's a very dramatic shift in how long it takes to get through a volume
I totally felt the same way about being slightly skeptical about more people joining the crew at this point in the story. But now that I’m caught up, I love every crew member so much. Some of the latest people to join the crew are some of my most favorite characters in the whole story.

Lol I'm sure I'll just say you will love it, but I watched her and Daniel through their journey. It was great and all readers have an insight some may not, but it's always great to see things not yet happened mentioned. That may or may not happen. I've watched read and been a one piece fan from the beginning. It's always great to watch someone start it, and the theory's or thoughts come to be truths or thrown off entirely. Cant help but laugh. Aswell as know what she did or said and realized later always so fun to see.
We one piece true fans love people that love a story especially like it for what it is and waiting to see the moments we love loved by new readers can't wait to watch your journeys through it and hear those true great moments we love it for. Be prepared for the roller coaster you just jumped on to.
Also ps. While 4 kids ruined the anime version their intro was pretty epic and loved by most. All openings are worth a check out as you go but alot have spoilers so would check them once caught up. Aswell as I'm sure there are quite a few that'll give you certain episodes eventually that are must watch wait till after your caught up on the manga

I didn't realize the millennium dragon arc was filler and not in the manga. its right before reverse mountain in the anime and I personally like it, theres good characterization for the crew during it and it was the first thing that put in perspective for me personally how grand this story is going to be. it does explain why they straight up kill a man as a gag though lol
You should try catch up as soon as possible, Film Red is premiering in the UK tomorrow and if memory serves correctly this is the first One Piece movie to be screened here
Instead of each chapter review, complete and arc and then make a review because many times story strings get tied up much later, so you won't be disappointed or waiting for something to happen

Yup, it was some editor under the impression that it would be essential and a great selling point to have the two strongest, central characters fight but in the end it was just an awful character moment for Luffy because realistically he'd never mistrust his friends the way he did there and the fight wasn't even good in my opinion
I had to stop at 16:47, I know that this is way late (by RUclips standards) but comparing any thing to team rocket when that is/was the only anime/manga the majority have comsumed isn't horrify (to a person who has never read one piece) but it also gives people like me an idea of what they are like Personality wise without saying how they act so in my book your good, dont know about the one piece fans tho 😁.... Hey my wife just told me that lush USA has released a bunch of one piece merchandise it looks cool I know there is UK lush also so I assume that's it might be something you could get if interested. you can show your own manga panels to the screen briefly to showcase something and I think there wont be an issue, youtubers that had an issue were just reading along with the actual manga panels on screen, or were people that posted illegal, leaked spoiler manga panels ahead of release. New chapters are a big no no, but older chapters, holding your own phisical manga, I dotn think you will have issues showing it on screen. Its fair use as its finest.

@@GavinReadsItAll it’s even worse after you experience little garden. But for some reason they skipped little garden but dubbed multiple filler arcs. Most likely because of some content that it’d be hard for them to make into rated 7+ like they’ve done with the rest of the anime to that point. They did things like sanji has a lollipop instead of smoking, all guns are water guns, alcohol is juice, no blood, laboon was replaced with an iceberg and Luffy just blew it up. 4kids was a nightmare looking back at it now

Gavin has really fallen into One Piece series so fun. Whiskey Peak arc is lot of surprises revealed at once. Cool reveal Miss Wednesday was Vivi princess of Alabasta. Oda originally just had Miss Wednesday be side character, however made her Vivi cause with hair down she looked princess like. Hope you enjoy next arc Gavin.

Luffy didn't destroy the Eternal Pose because he didn't trust Miss All Sundays, he destroyed it because he is the one to decide the course of the ship since he is the captain, not anyone else. Also it's "Seven Warlords of the sea" not "Warlords of the seven seas" XD
I also loved the comedy of the Luffy vs Zoro fight, though thematically it clashes a little with Arlong Park where Luffy absolutely trusted Nami e refused to believe that she might have betrayed them.
If you enjoy One Piece so far, you are in for a wild ride! It's nice to see a reaction chapter by chapter, but I'm not sure how that is going to work out for arcs with 50+ chapters... well, One Piece fans don't mind looking videos from what I saw on other channels!
Ahhh I got the seven warlords thing all muddled up 😅 I should remember going forward. I’ve never read something with so much rich world building before, and so many different things to remember, but I’m loving the experience of everything being thrown at me haha
@@GavinReadsItAll That's not an issue, and everybody get a few things mixed up the first time. And look, there is stuff in this early sagas that people thought was something or even nothing at all, then 20 years later Oda drops new bombshells and we go all like "oh, THAT is what it was!". It's one of the things that makes re-read so much enjoyable.
A suggestion would maybe be for the longer arcs to say what your thinking after 5 -10 chapters, although for the short arcs chapter by chapter is fine. I love your videos and welcome to the one piece journey!

I prefer to have the fresh reactions after every chapter. Increasing the amount of chapters just to save time will only lessen the experience in the long run imo.
Luffy vs Zoro is generally viewed as out of character for Luffy by most fans. There's a common theory that Oda's editor got him to add the fight because a lot of Manga readers are powerscallers who like seeing who is stronger than who.

Yeah, Luffy is my favorite character of all time in all of media. But that fight is so out of character that this arc is at the very bottom of my arc tier list for that reason alone (otherwise it would be really short and fun imo)
@@benediktmathes2528 I didn't like that fight and as a then anime watcher thought it was filler. Still didn't make it the arc at the bottom. The only 2 arcs I haven't enjoyed in One Piece anime wise (none in manga I don't like, just don't really love them there) are Syrup Village and Long Ring Island.
@@TheYodelingViking Syrup Village is my 2nd least liked, yeah... LRLL isn't as bad in the manga, because it is much shorter. It's still among the worse OP arcs, but it's just a fun short clowning around arc. So it's bearable... plus the stuff at the end with that one person that I don't wanna spoil :D
My head cannon is that the inworld explanation is that Luffy was just drunk and he is a mean drunk... And chose to fight Zoro for the "kind" people... I mean...they were trying to get them drunk so even if Luffy did not want to drink they just spiked other drinks...

if I was fluent in japanese I would read them too since Oda makes so many puns and references in his titles, chapter number, volume number, and volume covers.

i actually wrote a uni essay the 4kids dub of the one piece anime for one of my translation modules, and while the 4kids version of the scene where igaram goes didnt make me feel much, the original made me WEEP on rewatch. the way vivi is trying so hard to just. be a princess and stay strong and keep it together, biting her lip so hard she bleeds and nami immediately recognises this and goes in for the reassurance 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 i love name and vivi so much oh my god. keep an eye on how nami talks about vivi in the coming arcs (and vice versa) theyre so Good
Make all the comparisons you want, no matter how silly they may seem, this is the world of One Piece after all lol.

It's so fun seeing someone who's not very used to reading manga experiencing the wacky world of One Piece for the first time. From the Alabasta Saga onward, every saga has mini arcs and major arcs that have 4 or more volumes so i suggest that you do the chapter format like how you do here for the mini arcs, and for the major arcs you go to the volume format like how you did for the east blue saga.

@@nvyqc Why wouldn't it work? One video can cover the chapters of one volume for example. So much of the initial thoughts and feelings is lost if you only review volume by volume. But that's just my opinion, glad he's at least doing chapter by chapter atm :)
@@Julleppi one video for one volume is crazy, if he likes the chapter format then just do a couple volumes in a video and review them chapter by chapter. all im saying is it wouldnt be efficient for him to pack a whole arc in one video if the arc is 150 chapters long...a whole 14 volumes

Oda is really a genius with how much he lets you care about all the characters, even characters you only just met. Whisky Peak was my first exposure to One Piece (in the Viz monthly Shonen Jump about fifteen years ago).
Zoro was so cool in it that it was my favourite series straight away :)
This arc really highlighted Zoro’s incredible strength and personality too, I can see why you’d fall in love with One Piece starting with this arc

One piece reading challenge sounds fun but I feel like I HAVE to warn you...as the series goes on Oda starts getting more and more ambitious and so while each volume is roughly the same size, the pages starts slowly getting denser and denser with more and more content to absorb, more panels shoved in, etc as the scope of the story goes so there's a very dramatic shift in how long it takes to get through a volume
I love that I have that to look forward to, and not gonna lie, makes this one piece speedrun challenge sound all the more fun 👀

I totally felt the same way about being slightly skeptical about more people joining the crew at this point in the story. But now that I’m caught up, I love every crew member so much. Some of the latest people to join the crew are some of my most favorite characters in the whole story.
I would say Luffy's intellegence is mainly creativity in how he fights, and in some more subtle ways.

Lol I'm sure I'll just say you will love it, but I watched her and Daniel through their journey. It was great and all readers have an insight some may not, but it's always great to see things not yet happened mentioned. That may or may not happen. I've watched read and been a one piece fan from the beginning. It's always great to watch someone start it, and the theory's or thoughts come to be truths or thrown off entirely. Cant help but laugh. Aswell as know what she did or said and realized later always so fun to see.
We one piece true fans love people that love a story especially like it for what it is and waiting to see the moments we love loved by new readers can't wait to watch your journeys through it and hear those true great moments we love it for. Be prepared for the roller coaster you just jumped on to.
Also ps. While 4 kids ruined the anime version their intro was pretty epic and loved by most. All openings are worth a check out as you go but alot have spoilers so would check them once caught up. Aswell as I'm sure there are quite a few that'll give you certain episodes eventually that are must watch wait till after your caught up on the manga

I didn't realize the millennium dragon arc was filler and not in the manga. its right before reverse mountain in the anime and I personally like it, theres good characterization for the crew during it and it was the first thing that put in perspective for me personally how grand this story is going to be.

Yup, it was some editor under the impression that it would be essential and a great selling point to have the two strongest, central characters fight but in the end it was just an awful character moment for Luffy because realistically he'd never mistrust his friends the way he did there and the fight wasn't even good in my opinion
I had to stop at 16:47, I know that this is way late (by RUclips standards) but comparing any thing to team rocket when that is/was the only anime/manga the majority have comsumed isn't horrify (to a person who has never read one piece) but it also gives people like me an idea of what they are like Personality wise without saying how they act so in my book your good, dont know about the one piece fans tho 😁.... make the comparation you want, let outraged ppl be mad it dosent matter.
you can show your own manga panels to the screen briefly to showcase something and I think there wont be an issue, youtubers that had an issue were just reading along with the actual manga panels on screen, or were people that posted illegal, leaked spoiler manga panels ahead of release. New chapters are a big no no, but older chapters, holding your own phisical manga, I dotn think you will have issues showing it on screen. Its fair use as its finest.

Most likely because of some content that it’d be hard for them to make into rated 7+ like they’ve done with the rest of the anime to that point. They did things like sanji has a lollipop instead of smoking, all guns are water guns, alcohol is juice, no blood, laboon was replaced with an iceberg and Luffy just blew it up. 4kids was a nightmare looking back at it now
