You said Luffy helping Cricket is such a great thing even though he knew him for 2 sec, but it’s the reverse. Cricket was the one who decided to help them first with all his resources and might without knowing them at all. This arc was about dreams and the only thing connecting Luffy and Cricket was their crazy dreams and that’s romantic
“I love how you don’t mind long videos” - understatement of the year. 😆 if the vid is less than an hour, I question if it is worth watching. I mean I have to change out the vid so quick. Longer the better, Gavin! 😄
Haha I'm the same honestly, I love not worrying about having to find something else to watch straight after when a video is like 15-30 minutes, for instance. Longer is definitely better for me too 🥰
While they are trying to catch the South Bird is one of my absolute favorite parts of the entire series. The part where Nami and Sanji get scared of the spider. Nami (a woman who steals from dangerous pirates and recently helped take down a dangerous crime syndicate run by one of the most dangerous pirates this side of the planet) and Sanji (a man who can kick a sea-cow so hard it flips over) both freak out. Usopp on the other hand recognizes it as a tarantula and picks it up, telling them it won't bite if they don't scare it. Some fans frame Usopp as a coward, a guy who panics at everything and is frightened of everything but that isn't quite right. Usopp is a man of rational fear. When they meet a giant monster, he is scared, when they go up against extremely dangerous people who are willing to kill them, he's rightly terrified. Wouldn't you be? If you, a normal person, were dealing with any of these things? But when Sanji sees a single spider he is irrationally afraid when Usopp knows even if it tried to hurt them the worst it could do is a bite, and he's not scared of that. Usopp doesn't have irrational fears, the things he's afraid of are things people should be afraid of, it just makes him stick out as a worry-wart when he's surrounded by people who refuse to be frightened or intimidated by legitimate danger.
Jaya! One of the arcs that screams One Piece the loudest for me. I've only just started the video but I can't wait to hear your thoughts. Loving the content, Gavin! 😃
@@GavinReadsItAll Just to quickly mention as I've watched up until the part when you mention the popularity polls, the first poll was in volume 7, I believe. There have been 7 polls published so far, with the most recent collecting over 12 million votes!
Jaya is an arc that's fine on a first read through, but actually gets better on a re-read because you have more context for all the story beats it set up.
I read the whole “not interested in clearing his ancestor’s name” thing like this: I think that at this point in his life, he only cares about knowing the truth for himself, his own sake. Clearing a name isn’t defined by but does connote repairing a reputation, which by its definition requires the opinions of outside people. That’s why (if I remember correctly) he calls it a battle between him and the man who ruined his life, as opposed to a battle against people’s opinions of him and his ancestor. I got the impression that as long as he and his descendants know the truth, public opinion can go hang. I could be wrong, but that’s how I see it.
1 hour for Jaya? Yes, Yes, YESSS! One of these non-action centered arcs in OP. Not that I mind amazing fights but I love every arc where the reader gets overwhelmed with information about this amazing universe. Loved Jaya when I read it for the first time and still love it today down to the last panel. Thanks alot Gavin and I can't wait for Skypia.
Nico Robin is my absolute favorite character. I really like that she refers to everyone by a title instead of their name, its a small detail showing she's still guarded- it would be so weird for a darker character like her to just immediately be chummy given her background. I love that you're taking the time to digest a lot of the smaller stuff and going chapter by chapter. I legit cannot wait for you to get further in the series because imo it ramps up in quality so much, some of the best arcs are on the way.
In the beginning, I didn't really like her, she felt sort of out of place. There was this weird distance between her amd the crew. But after the, uhm, a non spoiler name....let's go with the carpenteer island, she became part of my top 3 favourites in the crew, maybe top 2 even.
Let him realise (and discover!) this on his own how Robin refers to each crewmate. Your comment was definitely too soon. And if he doesn't realise this on his own, a SBS in the Thriller Barc arc will point it out to him. So at the very least, your comment spoils a future SBS
Jaya is one of my favourite arcs. It really presents the grand romance at the core of the story. The mystery, the old legends, rowdy pirates, exploration... it's all great. And the gravitas of how the entire concept of sky islands is introduced is great too. Adventure just literally falls on them from the sky XD
Facial expressions are Oda's bread and butter, especially in panels that have no text, just a close shot of someone's face, a picture is often worth a thousand words.
In the conversation with the warlords, Lafitte is saying that he wants to recommend his captain for warlord, who's name is Teach. In Blackbeard's intro panel it says that his name is Marshall D. Teach and he even talks about meeting up with Lafitte later, so yeah, Blackbeard wants to be the next warlord. Interesting that Luffy, Ace, Gold Roger, and Blackbeard all share the middle initial "D"...
Shonen Jump tends to do a popularity poll every so often after a manga lasts long enough, and the top 10 (typically) results are often drawn by the mangaka (Oda in this case). It does get quite large, and the votes get massive. It is always fun to see the results upgrade. The first poll is in chapter 7, and then the third is in volume 43. Subsequent polls are volumes 55, 77, 87, and 99.
I don't know if you mentioned it, but Blackbeard is the pirate that Ace is looking for, as well as the pirate who ran King Wapol off of Drum Island. Also keep your eye on Donquixote Doflamingo, he's one of the most interesting characters in the series imo. Also his name is pronounced Don-key-hoe-teh, but most people just call him Doflamingo.
33:00 So far there have been 7 official popularity polls in the series. You can find the first one on volume 7. Fun fact: the last poll was the first done online as a global event with over 12 million votes and you could choose from 1174 characters (yes, that's the sheer scale of this series and it's still expanding). I think the reason why Chopper is placed above Nami is because Japanese audience tend to like more cutesy mascot characters more. 45:00 I disagree with Bellamy being "just words", he is definitely above average in strength, but Luffy is just too strong. The whole fight was just a flex for Luffy. 47:10 Doflamingo's surname is the same as that famous Spanish novel from the 17th century, so you pronounce it like that. 49:00 Shanks was preparing to fight the Navy since they don't want him to contact Whitebeard. If it wasn't clear, Lafitte is also part of the Blackbeard crew and he wanted to recommend his captain for the position of warlord. Also Blackbeard introduction is so iconic and sooo One Piece... arguing over pies with Luffy XD Did you also catch that Pell survived at the beginning of the arc? There is a meme in the community which is "the will of P. (Pell)" which is how we jokingly refers to characters that should have really REALLY died, but came back in the end XD. Also, a bit teasing, last chapter was 1069 and after reading it, I thought back at the quote on the panel where that ship fell from the sky :D
About chapter 1069, there is also another thing that made me think of Jaya. Specifically, what Van Auger said after they stopped pursuing the StrawHats, something along the lines of: everything in the world are cogs tuned to strong desires.
Love Jaya and the video once again . To answer your question about the popularity poll their is currently 7 with the most recent one around a year ago . Oda tends to do them every 200-300 chapters or so. Its funny because in the first poll only had 36,000 votes and on the most recent one their was 12 milion votes!
Also on volume 101 - its january for us in the uk , i believe what happens is the initial English release date is the same for each country (USA, UK). They are then all sent to the US . However they then have to get shipped from the US to the Uk so the release date for the Uk is pushed back a month.
The south bird makes me laugh everytime, and that moment where Luffy and Zoro hint towards Nami that the “funny guy” outside the pub after they’re done standing their ground isn’t alone, is one of my favourite moments between the captain and the first crew mates of the series every re read.
Best way to spend my birthday for the next hour - listening to Gavin talk about One Piece!! I'm so happy with how much you're loving this series. I myself started it exactly 9 years ago and it is still to this very day my favourite series in the world! Enjoy the incredible journey and keep being awesome!!
Jaya is absolutely my favorite arc in the entire series from just the way it shows that the series doesn’t need direct conflict to be the best just from the world building to seeing development in Luffy with the bar scene to just THE REVEALS MMM absolutely love it and can’t wait to see how you view Skypiea!
As a One Piece fan, long videos are the greatest gift. I love this saga. I love the contrast between Bellamy and Luffy. And the loreeee. I love the romantic idea of adventure and pirates. Great video.❤
Love watching your One Piece journey! The shorter arcs, from this point forward, tend to be set up arcs and come with the most significant lore dumps. Take not a single panel for granted on arcs like Jaya!
So these kinds of short arcs that came after long storylines are typically called "set-up" arcs, and you're gonna find a few more down the line following after major stories. They usually show us things going on in the bigger parts of the world and are usually more focused on setting up future major arcs. These set-up arcs are notorious for generating massive amounts of hype in the fandom, whether by giving us little teasers to what's to come or showing off the movers and shakers of the One Piece world.
same, i also have no one irl to talk about one piece. that's why i keep watching reaction video mashups to feel like im watching with friends. im so happy i get to follow your one piece journey!
I love these lore filled transition arcs! It's like an info dump. It actually has even more stuff thats hard to notice, but it gets referenced later on the story when a lot of things strat to tie together. Later on there's a few of these not so high stakes, but interesting short transition arcs inbetween bigger arcs.
We’re going to Skypeia!!! 🏴☠️ I loved Jaya for the lore, world building and awesome Luffy moments. That call back to Shanks was perfect and made Luffy punching Bellamy all the more satisfying. And Zoro, what a guy 😍 standing by his captain no matter what. Them going up the water in the anime was just epic, and I completely understand your feelings about how adventurous this arc is, I felt the same way! Btw Donquixote would be pronounced don-ki-ho-tay like the classic Spanish book. Very excited for you to get to Skypeia!
Blackbeard's introduction is iconic. I love how it casts him as a foil and rival, connected to but opposed, to Luffy. His crew is great too. This arc made him one of my favorite characters very quickly. "Men's dreams will never die!"
Don Quixote (key-ho-te) Doflamingo is a force to be reckoned with. Well, you'll find out! Oda sets up so much so early that doesn't come back for ages, it's amazing. Keep the Noland story in mind for the next arc!
aaaa i love the intro so much!!! so excited to watch the whole video!! :) following you on your one piece journey is so much fun. and have a great day, gavin!! :)
one of the things to remember about one piece is that while it's the straw hats journey, the world goes on without them. the government is plotting, other pirates are on their journey, shanks does whatever the hell he does, it's all very important.
The bar scene is partially a callback to Shanks, but it's more showing that, to Luffy, these people who mock dreams, well... they aren't even worth a single punch, they might as well already be dead.
I was positively surprised by your "One Piece Merry christmas" Shirt and by your intro! Long videos are always loved :) 9:40 I think part of why she seems so likeable is because of her dynamic with the crew! She's a great fit, and a character we never knew we needed, she's the mature, quiet and mysterious type 26:25 the "I will buy you" quote is so horrible if you know Nami's past! It's like a traumatic reminder of how her freedom and her village's lives have to be bought from her and now she's offered to sell herself again. 27:57 timestamp for the cat 33:50 I'd actually advice to make multiple videos over time of what's your top arcs characters and/or moments. It's fun to always be able to look back on how you felt about your ranking at that moment and compare to what you think of them now. If you want make a ranking of the characters, moments, arcs after every saga. For me, Jaya is okay, I actually liked Loguetown more bc of Smoker and Tashigi. Many fans love it and I have to admit that the quote "Dreams will never end" is peak, but I wasn't a big fan of our boys getting hurt... See you in the next review! Just so you know, the next arc is quite controversial in the One Piece fandom... Some hate it, some love it and many are in the middle about it
Thanks for your review, I had a great time listening to it. :) I think the developments and themes of this arc connect really well with arcs going forward. A big topic brought up is dreams and Bellamy forms a, in my opinion, really great anti-thesis to Luffy in that sense. That's also why Luffy doesn't fight him in the first encounter - yes, it's a callback to Shanks and yes he learns that he doesn't have to always fight, but more so I think to him Bellamy is a man without dreams, so essentially already dead. Remember - Luffy doesn't kill his opponents, he defeats them and stops their dream (e.g. Crocodiles dream of taking over Alabasta and finding an ancient weapon). Stopping/not having a dream = Not living, to Luffy. On a seperate note I think Luffy's encounter with Blackbeard is extremely iconic. On the one hand they both believe in dreams and have a very chaotic nature, on the other hand, as shown with their culinary tastes, they are complete opposites. The "People's dream never end" panel is super iconic and I really love it. So yeah, I would keep in mind these themes and characters (chasing dreams, Cricket) as you read the next arc as they are tied together quite nicely. Hope you enjoy the next one. :)
After you finish Skypia arc you need to watch the G8 story. Technically it’s an anime filler but it’s sooo good. Also pay attention in Skypia as this has a metric ton of foreshadowing for so much to come. Things will happen here and then xxxxx chapters later you will see it again or a call back etc and you will kick yourself.
Black beard and luffy order the same food but have diffrent opinions on the taste. They have the same ideals of freedom and dreams, but still oppose eachothers interpretations of those ideals. You got to love the one piece symbolism.
Even though I am late, I wanted to point out some things that I think were not given the appropriate attention: About the "fight" with Bellamy in the tavern: Zoro didn't just follow Luffy's order by loyalty alone; it was because he understood the reason behind it. I don't remember if it was in the manga, but I rewatched the anime recently and, there was a scene later (while they were preparing the Merry and waited for Luffy to return) where Zoro explains to Nami why he and Luffy reacted like that. If he had just been following orders out of loyalty, he wouldn't be able to say all that. The scene with Blackbeard's speach about how "people's dreams never end": It's just Nami conversing with him. Luffy and Zoro are listening with serious faces and do not engage in conversation. After BB leaves and Nami comments on him, Luffy and Zoro tell her that it's not "he" it's probably "they". Nami asks what they mean, if they know he has a crew or something, but the boys (and Oda-sensei) just leave it vague. This, along with BB's jolly roger which has three skulls, some weird behaviours here and there and also something that will happen in a later arc have created the theory that BB is actually three people in one body. This is a fan theory and has not yet been confirmed. About what Robin was doing: aside from shopping and gathering intel, she also beat up the pirates in the tavern who ridiculed the crew for believing in dreams. About Sanji being from the North Blue: the North and the East Blue are separated by the Red Line which makes a direct voyage from one place to the other near impossible. This was hinted all the way back in Reverse Mountain: when the crew were discussing how to traverse it, Zoro asked if they thought climbing the Red Line was possible. Sanji answered something vague like there are ways since the world is filled with mystery. We then assumed that he was remembering one of Zeff's stories, but after this new piece of information, things don't seem that clear, do they? Also, when they are talking about Noland's story, Sanji is eerily quiet and somber. If I remember correctly, there is a nice panel where he is at the front smoking with his face hidden, where the focus is on the characters behind him talking about Noland. I wonder what kind of memories Sanji has from when he was reading the story as a small child... Other people have already mentioned how important Noland and Blackbeard are for the overall story, so I will just agree with them. Chapters 233-234 are extremely important and a second reading would be best before you go forward if you are not keeping notes. Lastly, the StrawHats riding the KnockUp Stream in the anime is wonderful! You should give it a look. Great video again, Gavin! Loved the intro too!
Everytime I watch youtubers make an arc by arc review of their journey to one piece I always have that "oh boy you don't know what's coming" moments and I love it. Dramatic irony
It’s finals week at university for me and I have been so stressed. I have an art final due in 5 hours and I didn’t want to start because I was scared of failing. Thank you Gavin for doing these longer reaction videos! I saw this video on my feed and it motivated me to just start while I listen to you cover the Jaya Arc. It’s been so much fun reliving One Piece with you. You are the fellow One Piece fan I don’t have irl. I enjoy your excitement and your cats antics. 😂
I love your shirt so much, that would have been my Christmas outfit, no regrets ❤️ I love Jaya, it's short but I feel so much happens and we get so much info on the world and the Bellamy punch was so perfect, I sometimes just feel like watching it again cuz it's so satisfying 😬
Lol I'm telling you now you're definitely going to need to take some clips from these recent videos and use them WAYYYYyyyyy later down the line! Love what your building brother keep up the great work!!!
finally caught up, ahh the end is a complete cliffhanger, hope the next vid arrives soon, but on the other hand I have so many things still to read before the new year (and things to do for Uni) maybe it is better to hope for the next Arc in January xD
Donquixote Doflamingo pronunciation: Donquixote comes from the famous Spanish novel Don Quixote and is pronounced the the same way. Don Key-Hoh-Tey Doflamingo is just like the animal but with "Doh" on the front. You can just call him Doffy for short.
I really enjoy your enthusiasm and humor when summarizing your read throughs of One Piece. As a fan of the series, recaps like yours are as close as one can get to experiencing this amazing story all over again for the first time.
The way you described the beginning of this arc to be so adventurous and 'pirate-like' makes me really excited to see your reaction to Skypiea. It's one of my all-time favourite arcs tbh and I think you might really enjoy it ♥
While the "fight" between Bellamy and Luffy/Zoro was a call back to Shanks there's definitely more to it. Dreams are a big theme in One Piece and Luffy is constantly coming across foes that either have the same dream (become Pirate King) or opposing dreams. Oda was asked once why Luffy didn't kill his enemies to which Oda said because Luffy kills their dreams and that's a much more painful death than actual death. But Bellamy is antagonistic to dreams themselves. He has no dreams and actively mocks them. So he wasn't even worth Luffy's time. AAAANNNDDDD Zoro and Luffy said something verrrryyyy curious about Blackbeard when they were walking away from him. After he told them dreams never die and Nami said HE was weird... Anywho probably not worth rereading love the reviews look forward to the next.
The barrel thing is called a diving bell and they weren't quite that intricate and were usually made of iron. You would have a few placed down with air trapped in them for divers to get air without having to swim all the way back up.
The only time we can say something nice about blackbeard 28:16 I'm really enjoying your journey into the world of One Piece and I love how much you are loving it and showing how enthusiastic and into the story you are Let me tell you this is just the beginning
So a number of things. -First, yes there are more polls later on. In fact, there was one in recent years which was the first global One Piece poll and you could vote for literally any character you wanted once a day for a certain period of time. It was wild. -In regards to the not fighting thing, it's true that some fights can be settled in other ways, however, the idea mainly is that some fights are not worth it, as in the people are not worth fighting. I think Luffy figured this out once Bellamy mocked dreams. This is also why Shanks did not bother fight a bandit who is obviously way below him, it wasn't worth it and neither was he. The parallel is wonderful when Luffy actually decides to go fight, and that's only for a friend's sake whom Bellamy has attacked. Similar to how Shanks and his crew only got angry and fought the bandits when his friend was hurt. -That punch Luffy dealt by the way is sooo satisfying. It's one of the most satisfying punches ever in the series to OP fans. -As to Cricket's motive, he said he didn't want to clear up Noland's name, meaning he wasn't planning on proving he was honest necessarily. He just wanted to find out the truth, whichever it was, that he is a liar or was honest. It merely frustrated him to be in this position without knowing whether Noland was truly a liar or misunderstood. It's kinda like putting the matter to rest after uncovering the truth, even if it meant Noland is a liar. He kept diving with the two brothers to try and find evidence of the sunken island and gold, so that if it did exist he would know Noland didn't lie, and vice versa. -Jaya is indeed very important despite how short it is. You will understand that more with time. -If I recall correctly, Shanks said to prepare for a fight in reply to the thing about the Marines possibly interfering or not wanting it to happen, rather than Whitebeard, whether they end up fighting or not. -Blackbeard is the man Ace has been after as stated when he went to Alabasta, he is looking for him, and if you noticed he's also the one who attacked Drum Island with Wapol and all. So when we first saw Ace at Drum it makes sense as he was tailing Blackbeard, who was part of the Whitebeard Pirates before he comitted a betrayal by killing a crewmate. (See chapter 159 in case you forgot) -Also note the thing Luffy and Zoro said about 'they' not 'he' regarding Blackbeard. It's funny whenever you buy more OP merch and stuff, even though you still have a long way to go. I love how you just know you're loving and will continue to love this series as it goes on enough to buy so much for it. xD Great review and waiting for Skypeia!
I've read the chapter, than listened to your review of it. I've read One Piece about four times now I think. (I've also been reading the story for about 15 years now) And it's such a joy to read along with you for another re-read.
I'm so jealous of these One Piece cards. I love how you make sure not to look at them. Especially stuff like who's gonna join is soo easy to get spoiled in everything One Piece related in general.
Doing a favorite character/moment i'd do a video either after water 7 saga and/or after paramount war saga. No one is going to mind you updating your ranking
There are 7 popularity polls. The last one being the World Top 100, a global poll from a couple years ago for the 20th anniversary. My boy Chouchou(the dog from Orange Village) got the 100th spot.
It's strange how you can be so excited for what someone else is experiencing. Can't wait for to see your reactions to all kinds of different reveals and new mysteries that will come further down the (grand) line. Also, making your own top lists of arcs, moments and characters so far is a great idea and would love to see it.
I hope you can continue the review with this format (chapter by chapter) as it makes you unique and we can see how contrast it is about your reaction on each chapter. Keep up the good work! Loving the content! There will be a much more chapter in 1 arc in the future, you can ask the community where to stop ^^
After a quick google search I found that the Forbidden Planet's release date for OP vol 101 is on the 20th December. But, the UK amazon release date is 19th of January. Now the reason for the 2 different dates in the UK might be because of the different batches for the printing factory/ies. FP date might be because of people might want to get it by hand or are on a specific waiting list for the latest volume so the first UK batch might go into stores before going to Amazon and that might be the reason for the different dates. But honestly, I am just guessing based on my experience working at the only store that sells manga in my country and dealing with ppl on a waiting list we provide. There is always manga volumes out of print atm
Oh I was in Japan about 4 years ago and tried many things like tea ceremony, Japanese sushi, sake (fun fact: alcohol in Japanese is osake while just sake is rice wine), among other things. I even stayed in a Japanese familys house for a night eating grilled fish with rice, taking a naturally heated bath and sleeping on a futon wearing a Yukata. I would definitely say the trip is worth it if you have the money to spend on it. Might edit a video with every picture from the trip that I still have and just blur everyone elses face for their privacy.
Jaya is so important that what happened in it is still relevant until now, Oda made me go back to Jaya thinking "did he just do us like that?", such a mastermind I really love this kind of story writing
Yeah, the first set of the TCG has *LOADS* of cards based on the arc the anime is in right now (which the manga only recently finished). It would be cool if it were all East Blue-themed at the start but they probably want it to serve as cross-marketing with the new material I guess the set's just called Romance Dawn because it's the first set, like Romance Dawn was the first arc.
Maybe you should buy the volumes chronologically as the cover would spoil future characters and development if you see volumes too far ahead. Just a small tip!
I was surprised, I thought it's already the whole Skypiea saga and it's only 54 mins. Was even more surprised that it's only the Jaya arc and it's 54 mins!!! I'll never expect less from you lol
If you notice Oda hides not just Panda man in his art but in his cover stories have hints. You caught one with the alabasta covers Baroque works vs the strawhats keep a keen eye open Also MA-SHI-RA
Another arc in the blink of an eye! I love how much One Piece merch you have collected already hahaha. I feel that most of the 'short', less action-packed arcs are the ones that really get you bouncing because they may be slow but then bam, so much is revealed about the world outside of what the Strawhats are going through. I couldn't appreciate it much as a teen, but I definitely love the romance of dreams and adventures it speaks of now. Of course, you'll also see more popularity polls as you read on! I'm not sure if your copies include the SBS corner (they're basically Q&A between Oda and the readers). It's been around since Vol 4, and while a lot of them are humorous, you might also learn interesting titbits there! The fandom has kindly included every SBS on the OP wikia, arranged by volumes to avoid spoilers :) Can't wait to join you in Skypiea - I'm sure you've started it already. My comment's getting kind of long, but as always, thank you for taking us on your journey, and an early Merry Christmas!
Ohh goodness getting close to the crazy parts of this roller coaster ride. Can't wait to see it. 😁 Also you'll have to rerate them when you catch up cause some may change for certain reasons.
About Doflamingos name, Don Quichotte (Donquixote) is usually pronounced as "Don-Key-Shot (english)" or "Don-Key-Ho-Te (spanish)". It could be based on the famous novel "Don Quijote" from spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. You've probably heard about it. It's they guy fighting windmills because he thinks they are giants.
This man will have every piece of one piece merchandise by the time he catches up
Too rights, and I have more coming as we speak 👀
Maybe that collection is the real treasure at the end of the Grand Line
Lmao
Longer is definitely better for me too 🥰
Yea this is the kind of thing I toss in the background while doing chores/gaming.
We're One Piece fans after all, long things don't scare us lol
Thank you, I do hope you enjoy the video!
I read the whole “not interested in clearing his ancestor’s name” thing like this:
I think that at this point in his life, he only cares about knowing the truth for himself, his own sake.
Not to mention the intro of cherry pie man
Facial expressions are Oda's bread and butter, especially in panels that have no text, just a close shot of someone's face, a picture is often worth a thousand words.
"I have no Idea what Robin is doing, but I bet your ass it's gonna be important and revolutionary"
Just remember that quote you did for later
Also little tidbit, the Blackbeard pirates were the ones who devastated Drum Island before the Strawhats arrived.
Blackbeard's introduction is still one of my favorite characters introduction of all time 🔥!! Blackbeard and Luffy mirror each other so well.
W introduction
Also Blackbeard introduction is so iconic and sooo One Piece... arguing over pies with Luffy XD
Did you also catch that Pell survived at the beginning of the arc? There is a meme in the community which is "the will of P. (Pell)" which is how we jokingly refers to characters that should have really REALLY died, but came back in the end XD.
Also, a bit teasing, last chapter was 1069 and after reading it, I thought back at the quote on the panel where that ship fell from the sky :D
About chapter 1069, there is also another thing that made me think of Jaya. Specifically, what Van Auger said after they stopped pursuing the StrawHats, something along the lines of: everything in the world are cogs tuned to strong desires.
Love the irony that when montblanc "Noland" returned to Jaya there was "no land" to be found
What is this new intro??? I love it!
Hehe fresh new intro for a fresh new year coming!
I LOVE THE INTRO!!!!
THANK YOU 😭
Damn your dedication to not be spoiled is crazy, makes me even more excited for you to keep reading
Only those that are caught up know how important the cover that he is holding at 35:00 is.
An hour long video for the Jaya arc? Lfgggg I'm really enjoying these long vlogs😁! Can't wait for your 3 hour review for Skypiea😂
Wano would be then 48h long 😂
So these kinds of short arcs that came after long storylines are typically called "set-up" arcs, and you're gonna find a few more down the line following after major stories.
Next ONE PIECE VID in a “week or so” yaaaayy 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Gavin is making my December
The covers of volumes 99-101 form one complete illustration side by side! Very cool! I want to get an extra copy of each and get them framed ❤
Thanks so much for joining me on my one piece journey, and have a great day too Hira!! 😊
@@GavinReadsItAll thank you! :) your video and reply really made my day
one of the things to remember about one piece is that while it's the straw hats journey, the world goes on without them. the government is plotting, other pirates are on their journey, shanks does whatever the hell he does, it's all very important.
The bar scene is partially a callback to Shanks, but it's more showing that, to Luffy, these people who mock dreams, well... they aren't even worth a single punch, they might as well already be dead.
I was positively surprised by your "One Piece Merry christmas" Shirt and by your intro!
Long videos are always loved :)
9:40 I think part of why she seems so likeable is because of her dynamic with the crew! She's a great fit, and a character we never knew we needed, she's the mature, quiet and mysterious type
26:25 the "I will buy you" quote is so horrible if you know Nami's past! It's like a traumatic reminder of how her freedom and her village's lives have to be bought from her and now she's offered to sell herself again.
27:57 timestamp for the cat
33:50 I'd actually advice to make multiple videos over time of what's your top arcs characters and/or moments.
Also keep in mind every member of the crew has a dream, that is why they joined the crew, to accomplish it.
I lived in japan for 4 years and absolutely loved it. I hope u enjoy your trip!!
You are great paying atention to all the right details. Im super hyped to see your reactions to the eventual payoffs
Black beard and luffy order the same food but have diffrent opinions on the taste. They have the same ideals of freedom and dreams, but still oppose eachothers interpretations of those ideals. You got to love the one piece symbolism.
Even though I am late, I wanted to point out some things that I think were not given the appropriate attention:
About the "fight" with Bellamy in the tavern: Zoro didn't just follow Luffy's order by loyalty alone; it was because he understood the reason behind it.
I am loving your journey with one piece. I'm late to your videos but welcome to the one piece family. 😍🤗😘
THE INTRO!😍😍😍😍
Its a nice observation, no land, and he was some one which his life was adventure and travel
I love your shirt so much, that would have been my Christmas outfit, no regrets ❤️
I love Jaya, it's short but I feel so much happens and we get so much info on the world and the Bellamy punch was so perfect, I sometimes just feel like watching it again cuz it's so satisfying 😬
Donquixote Doflamingo pronunciation:
Donquixote comes from the famous Spanish novel Don Quixote and is pronounced the the same way. Don Key-Hoh-Tey
Doflamingo is just like the animal but with "Doh" on the front.
You can just call him Doffy for short.
Not my favorite saga in the series but I’m more than happy to listen to you be excited about it ❤ have a merry Christmas good sir
Definitely go to the Tokyo tower 🗼 to see the one piece museum also the light museum is a must.
I really enjoy your enthusiasm and humor when summarizing your read throughs of One Piece. As a fan of the series, recaps like yours are as close as one can get to experiencing this amazing story all over again for the first time.
Great video Gavin! Merry Christmas!
In this episode of "Gavin bought even more One Piece merch even though he said he would stop at the 100 volumes", Gavin reviews Jaya!
love your new opening! ok, back to watching ))
Haha thanks!
The intro is so nice
The way you described the beginning of this arc to be so adventurous and 'pirate-like' makes me really excited to see your reaction to Skypiea. It's one of my all-time favourite arcs tbh and I think you might really enjoy it ♥
Can’t afford your Japan tour but did it about 5yrs back and LOVED IT!!!
Easily a holiday of a lifetime and still remember back fondly.
Ooooo just noticed the changes you have made or did you ask person concerned? I love the new intro 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
The barrel thing is called a diving bell and they weren't quite that intricate and were usually made of iron. You would have a few placed down with air trapped in them for divers to get air without having to swim all the way back up.
the first popularity poll was at the end of chapter 60. the third poll will be in volume 43, so still some way to go
The only time we can say something nice about blackbeard 28:16
I'm really enjoying your journey into the world of One Piece and I love how much you are loving it and showing how enthusiastic and into the story you are
Let me tell you this is just the beginning
(See chapter 159 in case you forgot)
-Also note the thing Luffy and Zoro said about 'they' not 'he' regarding Blackbeard.
It's funny whenever you buy more OP merch and stuff, even though you still have a long way to go. I love how you just know you're loving and will continue to love this series as it goes on enough to buy so much for it. xD
Great review and waiting for Skypeia!
Love the new title intro supper cute! 💛
Thanks! Glad your love One Pice. )
What is this intro??
👌🏿🤣
This is great for the lore.
Doing a favorite character/moment i'd do a video either after water 7 saga and/or after paramount war saga. No one is going to mind you updating your ranking
I just love that the whole crew is super excited about the idea of a sky island because the idea really is so cool
Jaya is so important that what happened in it is still relevant until now, Oda made me go back to Jaya thinking "did he just do us like that?", such a mastermind
I really love this kind of story writing
Yeah, the first set of the TCG has *LOADS* of cards based on the arc the anime is in right now (which the manga only recently finished). It would be cool if it were all East Blue-themed at the start but they probably want it to serve as cross-marketing with the new material
I guess the set's just called Romance Dawn because it's the first set, like Romance Dawn was the first arc.
I LOVE LUFFY IN THE INTRO
That intro OMG HAHAAHA love it
Cool idea: you can store the booster cards in the booty chest??? For the treasure at the end of this series, haha. If not, still all good. So fun !!!
Maybe you should buy the volumes chronologically as the cover would spoil future characters and development if you see volumes too far ahead. Just a small tip!
I love watching your one piece videos, can’t wait for the next. More videos for one piece, please!
You caught one with the alabasta covers Baroque works vs the strawhats keep a keen eye open
Also MA-SHI-RA
I get so happy whenever your one piece videos pop up in muy feed
The fandom has kindly included every SBS on the OP wikia, arranged by volumes to avoid spoilers :)
Can't wait to join you in Skypiea - I'm sure you've started it already.
"People's dreams... Never end!"
Probably my favourite quote in the whole series, pretty much encapsulating what One Piece is about.
Luffy one shotting Bellamy was so satisfying in the anime. This arc had a lot of lore and it wraps up nicely once tou finish Skypiea.
These videos give me life
About Doflamingos name,
Don Quichotte (Donquixote) is usually pronounced as "Don-Key-Shot (english)" or "Don-Key-Ho-Te (spanish)".
It could be based on the famous novel "Don Quijote" from spanish author Miguel de Cervantes.
You've probably heard about it. It's they guy fighting windmills because he thinks they are giants.
