Fun fact! In the game One Piece World Seeker, Zoro is a playable character. The game is open-world so there is a mini map on the bottom of the screen. When you play as Zoro, the map is blurred.

One thing often overlooked about Zoro is how he often sleeps.
At Whiskey Peak, Zoro is uncharacteristically awake. He doesn't trust the environment, the surroundings.
He can sleep the way that he does normally because he trusts his crew.
He sleeps during the day and is awake during the night as he takes the night shift when guarding the ship
Rightfully so. He's got luffy, sanji, brook, franky, robin, and jimbie to hold things down while he sleeps. Luffy while silly will always protect the crew. And while they bicker like brothers zoro trust sanji to look after everyone. The train in water 7, kuma in thriller bark, and their interactions in wano before the king/queen fight show how much he trust sanji.
Nux: No one understands Zoro.
Merphy: I'm about to end this man's whole career.

I'm on the firm belief that if he wasn't for Nami taking him from island to island, he would've found it by chapter 300
I could also see him not realize it or be like "that's cool" and then walk away
I still love that he got his hands on a sword that would "guide him to his death" but his sense of direction is so bad he went the opposite direction.
The crew gets to the One Piece, and Zoro looks around "Oh hey, I've been here before! Yeah, when I first left my island I passed through here!"

No shot I think her fresh eyed take is so intriguing though as it’s been so long since I didn’t know the things I do now. I also wonder at times if I picked up things she did right away cause it’s hard to remember that far back I was 13 on my first read 15 years ago. I can’t imagine anyone besides Oda loving one piece more than I do possibly as much but it’s been with me over half my life.

How funny would it be if Zoro and Buggy were the one to find the One Piece? One due to his ability to fail upwards into success and another due to sheer bad sense of directions.
If zoro is the first one to find the one piece and if it happens out of no where. That would be a great end of chapter cliffhanger.

One of my favorite Zoro moments is when Arlong removes his bandages. Arlong goes from total confidence, playing with Sanji and Zoro, to absolute fear. Seeing Zoro’s wound from Mihawk made him 180 how seriously he takes the situation and instantly try to kill Zoro.

My favorite part about Zoro is the fact that even though he was willing to die rather than losing if it meant not being able to achieve his dreams. That's not the same as risking your life, that's literally choosing death. EVEN THOUGH he is like that, he still puts Luffy's dream above his own. In the Mihawk fight he showed he'd rather die than not achieve his dream, and in Thriller Bark he showed he'd rather save Luffy's dream than save his own. So it goes Life < Dream < Luffy's Dream and that is awesome

Love your Zoro talk! Just want to add a bit here since he's one of my favs in the series.
I think a small detail a lot of people overlook a little in Zoro's development is when he himself finally started to expand what his ideas of what the "greatest swordsmen" encompasses when fighting Mr 1. He's always been a nice guy who is ready to help his friends and innocent people, but in that fight he really starts to think about his crew and the people he needs to protect which was the catalyst to finding the power to cut steel, to get even stronger. So while it never changes who Zoro is at the end of the day, it combined his drive to be the best swordsmen with his core character/morals which sets up stuff like "nothing happened". At the end of their fight we even get a bit where Zoro say's some things to the effect of somethings are too precious to cut in response to Mr. 1, showing that he thinks being the "greatest swordsmen" isn't just about cutting things and fighting for the sake of fighting anymore.
Yeah that part where he swings at the palm tree leaves and doesnt cut them gave me chills. Then he says a true swordsman chooses what to cut. Now I'm going to cut through steel

A character willing to die for his own dreams is something I admire in stories. A character willing to put aside his own dreams to help somebody else... That hits me the hardest, and One Piece is filled with that. Maybe it is because Luffy. He's the first to put aside his dreams and fight for freedom and stuff like that, so I guess his own crew live up to such a great captain.

Its odd but my favorite Zoro scene was when he threw the black sword in the air and held his hand out to see if his luck is stronger than the curse of the sword. It was so bad ass and there was no enemy to defeat. Just him and the sword.

I think the strategist-esque stuff is more Sanji's lane, although Zoro is good at understanding what needs to be done he's very much a brute force kind of guy when it comes to getting it done
Sanji is more of the infiltrator, the one who goes off and does his own thing to help everyone, rather than the team strategist
Sanjis whole schtick is running solo. Little garden, Crocs casino, sea train, thriller bark. Hell when he got kidnapped at thriller bark everyone assumed he was just doing his own thing lol.

The reason Zoro is my favourite character in the series because of his clash with Mihawk.
When he was willing to die for his dream so early on is kind of inspirational to me. Willing to give your all for your dream is idealistic of put your all into it. And I'm into that
And he even came with the expectation of Mihawk being stronger than he is but didn't foresee the gap being super wide.

There is a lot about Zoro that I love, but there's one thing in particular that is often displayed pre-timeskip and doesn't get mentioned often enough for some reason. While being somewhat a side character, Zoro is someone who builds his legend alongside Luffy and whose renown up until Marineford has probably outgrown even his captain's.
Every big player in East Blue knew who he was and was cautios of him - Buggy, Don Krieg and Arlong, and even the Baroque Works were trying to hire him. Often when he gets on the stage people get shocked that a beast like that is not in charge of the whole crew and can actually obey someone like Luffy, like we saw in Water 7 and Sabaody.
And when you're a pirate with a moniker of "Pirate Hunter" and such a reputation, said pirates will definitely watch out for you.
In terms of fame he's probably the most outstanding Straw Hat at least at this point of the story, and yet he's the most loyal of them. There's also parallels between him and Rayleigh which just tell me that his legend will probably even outlive Luffy's.
Definitely one of my favorite characters in this story.
And that Perona ad is something that I'll look forward for in every video from now on :)
That's why I think Zoro and Sanji are absolutely best for being his hands,Zoro always looks out for his captain and Sanji always looks out for the crew like Zoro saying to his captain that Ussop can't come and Sanji explaining to Nami and the rest , also Zoro's Nothing Happened moment is saving his captain and Sanji's Thanks I Needed A Light is for saving Nami and Ussop. One more thing Zoro is basically the demon of the crew ,he most of the time directly challenges his opponents like Ryuma ,Kaku , Daz bones etc. While Sanji being the guardian angel cause most of Sanji's fights come from saving his crew member like saving vivi from Bon clay ,Ussop from Jabra ,Nami from that pervert (I don't remember his name) , etc. That's why they create the perfect dynamic and it's always fun seeing either of them on screen.

I’ve said this to some friends, but I think that calling zoro the rock of the crew is a horrible understatement. Zoro is like a goddam island that supports the entire crew and especially luffy, which is good because Luffy can’t swim lol.
But for real, zoro will never say how he feels, but he clearly has a dedication to the crew and the long term success of the straw hats that even surpasses luffy’s. He will push luffy or be the bad guy because it’s what needs to be done, he’ll take as much pain and danger as you can throw at him without a second thought, and when luffy isn’t around zoro can take charge and act as the leader of the crew while luffy is occupied.
Also a cool thing about his backstory is that one of the biggest themes in one piece is inherited will. The first thing that happens is shanks passing his “will” to luffy by giving him the strawhat, showing him that he believes luffy can be the pirate king. But zoro is the first person to consciously take on someone else’s will of his own volition. Kuina didn’t tell him to carry on and be the greatest swordsman for her sake, she died, and he decided on his own that he would take on the burden of her dreams and her will no matter what. All the strawhats take on someone’s will to some extent, but zoro was probably the most proactive about it if anyone. He wasn’t given her sword, he had to BEG for it. She didn’t tell him to carry on for her, he decided alone that he must do it. I think that shows a lot for zoro’s extremely deep sense of duty and honor that surpasses pretty much any character in the series, and idk I just thought it was cool

One of my favorite tiny things in this wonderful massive epic is when in Alabasta Zoro lets Chopper ride on his shoulders. The subtle protective older brother vibes Zolo has with most of the rest of the crew is just fantastic. Love it to bits.

I love all Strawhats, but Luffy and Zoro have my heart sience day one, i admire them so much, Luffy's happines and honesty ❤, Zoro's determination, loyalty, kindness, serenity and hardworking ❤, they are so similar and diferent at the same time
Same! I love the Straw Hats but Zoro and Luffy are my faves. I can't choose one between them so whenever someone asks me who's my favorite character I always say Luffy and Zoro. It's their shared goals of becoming the best, their compassionate nature, Luffy's optimism and empathy and Zoro's dedication towards his captain and the loyalty that makes them awesome in my opinion. I love this duo!

Perona Napier reminds me of that video of SuperMechaFrieza where she went from saying 'no way' to doing One Piece to absolutely rocking extravagant One Piece cosplay, how the time passed and how much One Piece can change people
I think the thing that really makes the nothing happened moment for me is something I don't find people talk about ever and it's at the very beginning when Zoro agrees to join Luffy he says something along the lines of I will join you, but if helping you pursue your dreams ever hinders my dream, then I will not hesitate to leave. What gets me is that I think he still lives by that statement, but with the nothing happens scene we fully see that Zoro's dream is no longer just to become the greatest swordsman, but also to see Luffy's dreams through. And I think that is also why he threatened to leave the crew after Enies Lobby, because in that moment if he let Usopp push his way back onto the crew without Luffy commanding the respect he deserved, then how would Luffy ever be able to fulfil his own dream. So if Luffy's dream is unattainable then it only serves to hinder Zoro on his journey to being the greatest swordsman.
Yeah I think zoro still wants to accomplish his dream but luffy's and everybody else's dreams are just as important to him since they're part of the same crew. His sense of loyalty is insane. Even with sanji who annoys him you see throughout the series that when it comes down to it he never hesitates to come to his aid. Sure it's a rivalry but that doesnt get in the way of having each other's backs

This video was everything I needed today. Zoro is such a well developed, complex and lovable character and you said it best in this video. I just love listening to you talking about how much you love the series and the characters.
Honestly, it is such a great time to be a fan of One Piece. Volume 100 released today and had a big celebration with big projects, the One Piece live action Netflix series adaptation just revealed their logo. Chapter 1024 dropped today and had some important Zoro news. There is just so much to love about this series.
Tbh, I did not expect the Perona cosplay but I loved it! Seeing your ad for this site that helps you write awakened in me the desire to write. When I was a teenager, I used to read a lot of books and I really wanted to write my own so I did write some fanfiction (I was 14 lol). But then I got older and I started to read less and less books, then I got into anime and manga, then I started to watch less and less anime and now I really do not find so many things interesting, it is very hard for a piece of media to catch and mantain my interest. I always wanted to write fantasy books, but seeing the level of Oda s storytelling kind of intimidated me because I realised that I could never reach that genius level. But in the future I am sure that I will write and publish fantasy books because, as we learn from One Piece, we need to follow our dreams and work hard to achieve them. Seeing you ad for Camfire Blaze inspired me to want to get back into writing, cause I have a lot of ideas. Your One Piece videos really put a smile on my face. Thank you for everything!

If I'm not alive when OP ends, i just know that I enjoyed the journey to get there, and the fact that i heard Merphy's Horohoro. That was the one piece i didn't expect i wanted.
Just imagine the countless nakamas we lost along the way, I really hope we get there soon because our world is getting crazier
everytime I lose my patience driving, to refrain myself from doing reckless surpasses or going too fast, I think either "Imagine there is a kid in the car" or "One Piece needs to finish before I die"
I picked this series back up about 12 years ago now and have very much enjoyed going through it all again with you. Zoro is my favorite character in the series and you pretty much described my reasons why perfectly. Ultimate drive and ultimate loyalty matched with compassion and humility. One of my favorite aspects of Zoro is that he's got such an immense respect for people's dreams that he's willing to go out of his way to help others. Plus he wears his honorability around everywhere. I think he's one of the two best crewmates at understanding Luffy (Robin being the other one) and willing to go along with whatever his captain asks of him.
and that's why Zoro is, and will forever be, my #1

one of my favorite bits about Zoro, which i hardly ever see mentioned anywhere.
when zoro fights with 3 swords Wado Ichimonji (Kuina's Sword) is the one he holds in his mouth. (i think the only exception to this is a fight by a bridge in the Wano arc)
when he fights with 2 swords, Wado Ichimonji is sheathed
when he fights with 1 sword, he uses Wado Ichimonji
Oda was very specific with what swords are used in 1, 2 and 3 sword situations, and it is one of the reasons Zoro is my favorite character

You should watch "Why There is No Fictional Character like Zoro" it is an amazing character analysis that might just open your eyes to things you missed.

Zoro has always been and always will be my favorite character, your analysis was absolutely on point, I really enjoyed it! I love how Zoro basically takes away Luffy's weakness. Luffy couldn't be hurt by bullets, couldn't be hurt by Alvidas club and couldn't be hurt by cannonballs, yet he could be cut, and Zoro takes on all enemies who use swords. At this point in the series it's become mostly symbolic, because haki is very important and weaknesses like that can be overcome. But I still think it's an amazing detail with a lot of symbolic value that's often overlooked
