  • Nobody expected an intense manhunt in our area this week, but it happened. And it made me realize I need better security at A Shed Instead.
I won't say the alleged murderer's name or show his face, you can easily find the news story if you haven't seen it already.
    Prayers for the families.

I would go to the pound, save his life and always hold that over his head. The pounds usually have a pretty good slection.selection. Your progress on that property is awesome, your doing great !

Not being nosy. But do you live around Cleveland, Tx? Is this where you placed your new home? Sorry, I am just now seeing your channel and am thinking to do exactly like you did. Which is purchased about an acre of unrestricted land around Houston or not far from it and put two either built tiny homes on them or do a shed to house build. My best friend and her daughter plus son-in-law with 3 grandkids, are planning to split the mortgage payments and work on the property fixing our houses the way we want them. City living is becoming insane with rent continually growing higher. And it's becoming hard to find a nice piece of property in the city these days because contractors are buying up lots and turning them into condos to sale to people who are moving here from New York and New Jersey. After they finish building them there's hardly no land left. But most Northerners are used to that. Plus the prices are crazy. Try $300 to $400 thousand per a condo with a private driveway and a very small patch of grass to plant flowers in. This is what my once peaceful, large yards neighborhood in Houston is beginning to look like as homeowners out here pass away and their families sale there house that's sitting on almost half an acre and more of land to a contractor. He builds 2 or 3 condos on it and sells each one to out of towners for $300/$400 thousand a pop. CRAZY. I am looking to get settled into a small town that isn't too far of a drive that I can raise a garden in and where my 3 dogs will have enough yard space to run and play in. I never was much for city life. So I've been for awhile now, looking at tiny homes and shed to home builds. Sadly we can't do this in Houston. But some surrounding small towns we can. I've begun following your channel on here so I can learn and get a feel for the cost of doing this. You are doing such a great job with your place. Can't wait to see it finished exactly the way you want it. I can tell it's going to be gorgeous.

Hi there, and welcome to the channel! Very close, I'm in San Jacinto county. And yes, you are 1000% correct! These insane prices and eating up city land, it's just awful. I lived in Conroe and the massive amount of people moving in and homes being built ran me out, I couldn't stand it.
Land prices around here are going up too, though. You've really got to know what you want and where you want it, so you can jump on it if you find it.
If I can be of any help or answer any questions, I'd be happy to. My email is a.shed.instead@gmail.com, feel free to reach out at any time 🙂

@A Shed Instead thank you so much 🙂. I am in the process of saving money for a decent down payment right now. I will have to take a loan out, but don't want it to be a huge one. As I'm doing this I am looking around at places in other towns that are at least an hour or less drive from Houston. I have another 10 years to go before retirement, plus my friend, her daughter and husband also work in Houston too. So we are all looking at both unrestricted land and even homes that are on land that have an acre or more so we can build. Prices for this type of land are high right now. Hoping in a few years they will come down a little. Not holding my breath but am praying and hoping😄. With all of the new condos that have been built over the years, my neighborhood here looks almost deserted because a majority of them are still empty. My guess is that contractors got a little ahead of themselves thinking that many northerners would be flooding Houston. Well in a sense they are. But most are investigating their money in single homes with more yard space. So I'm thinking that in the next 10 years my neighborhood will be empty like how southside Houston's big store fronts and malls are right now. Instead of having all of those buildings down there sit empty. They should contract with the city and turn them into places for the homeless to live in. There is so much homelessness here. And it doesn't seem like our mayor is caring to do anything about it. But instead of converting existing buildings into housing, contractors leave them empty and build new ones. I don't understand it. But anyway, very few people will buy their condos for the prices they're asking for. Originally I'm from Pennsylvania. Moved down here with my husband in 2009. I've always been a small country town girl. So since my divorce, I'm excited to get back to that sort of living again. Most of my concern is finding land that isn't a huge risk for flooding. Thank you again so much for your offer to help 🙂.

I wish you the best in your land search! It may take awhile but keep looking. You can get the HAR app (Houston Assn of Realtors) and set up a saved search so it will notify you if something comes on the market that matches your criteria. Super handy tool! For a shed to house, I think you'd have to be one or more counties removed from Harris but should be able to stay within an hour. 🤞

Go to the pound, trust me, you don't want a puppy. Get a dog that is a few years old and needs a good home. A puppy will chew up your world, car, furniture etc. Get a rescue dog.
