- My Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 116500LN with white dial returns from its first full service! It certainly wasn't cheap, but the presentation upon return has taken me by surprise and I want to share the unboxing experience and all the details of what it cost.
I've owned the Daytona for about 4 years since buying from an AD, and it's been worn probably 1,000 days in that time hence got into pretty bad shape with scratches and being very dirty, plus a small chip to the watch glass. However, I took it to Watches of Switzerland to go for a full maintenance service and that has certainly impressed.
Coming in at a total price of... £830... you would certainly expect a great level of service, but the extra details including the packaging for return really make it stand out the extra mile. Let's take a full look through the experience of unpacking it upon return.
Thanks for watching, Tim
I love the fact that Tim opens a Rolex wearing a £200 swatch. Cool to find someone who appreciates everything.😊
Run out of battery, classic 🤦🏻♂️ . Great to see WOS doing a thorough job, enjoy it 👍
Truly enjoyed this video Tim.
Informative and interesting.
I appreciate that you’ve adjusted your camera angles/presentation…makes it so much more pleasant to watch (no pun intended)!
I've owned a 2007 Daytona since I bought it on the grey market in 2016.
During lockdown, I wore it so infrequently that one of the pushers got stuck and the crown started to feel like the rubber seal had expanded somehow and it was an effort to wind it or pop it out.
I used a small pair of metal pliers to try to unstick the pusher and of course, the case (and the pusher) ended up pretty scratched.
All in all, I had to go get it serviced. When it came back - wow. it looked fantastic and the crown/pushers now feel like silk.
As you say in the video - it's expensive, but money well spent, particularly as mine hadn't been service by the previous owner. So the poor watch had not only been attacked with a pair of pliers, it had gone 15 years before its first service!
Love this channel, my favourite things are cars and watches. So to have tim doing both is amazing 👍👍👍
I've had GMT master II for 30 years. Worn daily & only serviced twice.
They do come back like new & are completely bullet proof.
I purchased my gmt2 back in the year 2000 .... worn it for almost 3yrs daily & stored it for a year or two & also worn the watch from time to time ... IT NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES ....
What do i get as a selected winner sir ???? Am too excited
Astonishing condition after the service Tim, your getting an excellent collection 👍😉
Really impressive video! Thanks for taking the time to post.
a before and after shot would have been cool to see the differences before and after the service
thats a stunning watch Tim… truly remarkable piece to have in your collection
It definteley looks like new, very cool. About the glass, all recent rolexes have a crown on the crystal. However if you look closely, you'll see an S inside the crown, indicating it is a service crystal. Another thing to mention, if you polish the watch too often the lugs are going to thin out. Most watch aficionados don't recommend polishing the lugs, because in time it could change the profile of the case and affect the value.
I don’t think the replacement glass has any ‘S’ on the LEC anymore as I replaced my 16710 crystal recently is without the ‘S’
@@Saints-Forever I didn’t know that, thanks.
The Servcie sapphire used to have a S in the crown but they stopped it a few years ago
My Tudor Black Bay 58 925 Silver had to go back to the factory for some repair work and when it came back it was in the same cream outer box as yours and inside that the watch was in the Rolex green velvet/suede travel pouch. Very nice too.
Nice one Shmee, just put my Sub and Sea-Dweller in for a service at my trusted Jeweller, hoping they comeback in good condition!
Good to see the Daytona back!
Im so happy with how that turned out for you. Hopefully you can tell us in future a bit about making relationships with Authorized dealers and how you are able to snag these watches at retail
The Daytona is sexier in black dial but I also love the white dial. It’s definitely the best modern Rolex EVER
Excellent information. I have the same White face/ceramic bezel Daytona. I purchased mine a couple of months ago, and absolutely love it. In fact, my Rolex Sea Dweller has been sitting on the watch winder since I’ve purchased my Daytona.
I’ve owned many Rolex watches but my Daytona is by far my favorite. Great video!
“Run out of battery” 😂 so you got a quartz movement? 😂
Ha! That’s the reason he should maybe stick to the cars, tbh this whole channel could easily have been 1 maybe hour and a half long video on the main channel!
I was not aware of this channel, glad you mentioned it. -- Anxious about the maintenance costs of two Rolex's... I would be more anxious about the costs of maintaining the cars! The Daytona is beautiful. I wish I would not have sold my 1953 Turn-O-Graph, love my Explorer though.
"Run out of battery" lmao
We clearly know what he meant here 😄
@@gpaje WE do, yes, but it still made me CRINGE!
This has been a very useful video for me. Two weeks ago I bought a new blue dial Milgauss from an AD in San Francisco. I love it but I'm always afraid I'm going to scratch it or do some other damage. Now I know that even if I do it can be restored to like new condition.
I daily a CHNR TT and love the little blemishes and scratches that have come with frequently being worn. Makes the piece more personal. F... the investment aspect!
I am a bit of a Rolex fan and collector myself, but I am no expert by any means. I love these videos from you on watches, because, and I do mean this as a good thing, you are not an extreme expert on the subject, which makes your views on the matter so much more relatable to equally non-experts like me and I bet many others.
YES! Exactly my thoughts!
I purchased a 116520 black dial Daytona in 2013 brand new for msrp as my daily and haven’t needed a service. Solid watch and goes with everything.
Nice watch! Never ever polish it!!
I had the same feeling when I picked my Pepsi GMT master up from WOS . I actually gave the watch back to the guy that served me and said this is not my watch.
Like yours , my watches was batter and bruised after 10 years of daily use. He assured me it was my watch. I was gob smacked . It looked like a new watch.
Interesting vid thanks
Comments were well worth a read
The price for servicing on the Daytona is actually quite reasonable in my opinion. Time to make some more memories with it 👍
That cost was not what I expected, not a bad price at all.
My breitlings cost around £600 for a service.
Very nice watch🤗
Enjoy the Daytona, thats why we love the brand 👍🏻 made for life
Aqesome video man. Would have loved to have seen some before shots.
So why did you take it for service? Did you just want it to look fresh again? A beat up panda is also very cool.
My Daytona Panda needs a service soon, value has dipped a little last few weeks.
I have a small chip on the bezel, not looking forward to costs haha
Always enjoy the watch channel
Thank you for watching
A very well done video. I’m glad to see you wear it on a daily basis. Same with my 2022 Pepsi. I bought it to wear it. Not worship it while it’s stored in the safety deposit box.
Glad to see it back!
Likewise, especially in such good condition
@@Shwatch150 I must confess, I’ve not actually watched the video yet, but I just wanted to get my comment in early, before the scammers pretending to be you came along and commented… fyi, I got a scam comment as a reply to a comment I posted on this channel recently, kinda sucks that the spammers have found Shwatch150 as well now, ugh, can’t imagine how annoying it is for you!
Love the Daytonas, they are truly special... How are you doing Tim? Regards from Malaysia
Always keep things tidy and watch how long they'll last for😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
Very nice watch and a great price considering the watch value , I had my Seamaster fully serviced by Luxury Watch Repairs it came back looking brand new cost was very reasonable
They must have upgraded the service presentation as mine was serviced a couple of years back before the pandemic and it came back in a white plastic box with a green velvet travel pouch.
You should purchase some protection film for your Daytona. Styx has a full set, even for all the links. I’ve bought several sets for my personal watches and they’re a lifesaver. Also, you avoid having to polish your watches in the future, which definitely affects the value of the watch.
They are crap. Wear your watches and scratches are not a big deal! To be honest they look awful with stickers
Beautiful watch.
You can watch protection film nowdays it helps from scratches
Do you have any omegas shmee? Not including the moonswatch
Thats such a lovely Rolex, I have a sub no date and will have it all my life, a question do you think in a service that they can get out little dents in the case of the watch ⌚️?
Id love to know your opinion on Homage watches, ive recently stumbled across Pagani Design watches that pay homage to many Rolex and AP models
Nicer more useful packaging than the massive original box that is the norm with most high end watches these days
love the channel
Love the Daytona. Grail Rolex for me is the blue dial Sky-Dweller.
However I’d be just as happy with an OP 🤣
Interesting that the price for a full service is equal over all of Rolex and Tudor, no matter the price. When I asked for the full service price of my Tudor Pelagos, they say it started at 700 too, and my watch it was 3k new, so that's an interesting approach they have.
Labour costs are a huge factor since it takes many man hours to service a watch, not much difference in complexity between Tudor and Rolex movements either
That’s not true. At least at Rolex service cost depends on models (no date / date / chrono have different service prices)
Beautiful. A worthy investment I would guess, since these have about doubled in value.
Beautiful peace.
I've had my father's Daytona serviced twice & I wore it all the time when I inherited it, but I never had the history of the watch removed, it's got scratches & little dings & that's part of it, unfortunately I don't wear it much anymore, it's a bit showy, my father's Nautilus is more my style these days, Rj in Oz
Never ever polish it! Keep it that way!
Best Daytona out there!
Hope you have the Rolex watches insured for replacement value. Lots of watches being stolen from wearers in London.
Nice moon swatch
Did they send it back to you through the post?
Hey Tim ! Why did you have to pay a full service since Rolex got a 5 years warranty ? Only the glass seemed out of warranty because of the damage. By the way, you can put it in the water to clean it, it’s a Rolex after all :)
He is a rookie that’s why
I decided to polish my Daytona when it went back for service work but never again. I’ll wear those scratches
Lovely watch Tim, aside from the glass damage, every ten years is all you need between service.
I wouldn't recommend that on a chronograph movement, 3-5 years for a service is more realistic and always every three if you swim with it.
@@ar-am1976 You can just go and check waterproofness more frequently but a full service is not needed more often than what Rolex says: To guarantee continued accuracy and waterproofness, Rolex recommends that you periodically return your watch to an Official Rolex Retailer or Service Centre for professional servicing. It is recommended to service your Rolex approximately every 10 years depending on the model and real-life usage.
I have had my Daytona since new in 2004. Never serviced. Still works perfectly...
@@ar-am1976 you don’t have to service a Rolex movement every 3-5 years. They are very well made and kind of bulletproof. As long as it runs well no need to Servcie
Shmee can you get a patty wagon it will be a great addition for the shmeemobiles
Daytona is very nice. So is the Explorer. I would think you would be more of an Omega wearer, but Rolex did start in London after all.
You should check Bosphorus leather! They are an amazing Turkish company that handcraft pouches, cases and luggages for everything you need (im not with them at all, just love their products and thought you’d like them)
You should show the old vs new when you service again
Have you thought of looking into a watch winder
I got my sub date back from service a few weeks ago, and it was slightly cheaper at £650, but it came back in the same box and leather wallet, and looked brand new. I also kept the stickers on the back of my case as well as i think that bit gets scratched the fastest.
I took mine to Goldsmiths which is part of the Watches of Switzerland group and you couldn't fault the service from start to finish with the updates.
Very very Nice
What battery?
Glass = crystal. Face = dial. It doesn’t have a battery Tim. It’s an automatic chronograph.
I think it would be cool to have your ultimate car to have the plate SHMEE150 or SHMEE whatever is legal
Neither of those are legal UK plates, the first is too long and the second doesn’t have a number in it
Where do you service?
Missed opportunity with before and after shots.
Beautiful,
I want to know, what are your thoughts on smart watches? Would you ever wear one?
I’m guessing he wouldn’t…
I actually thought that the service was going to be in the thousands because of the price and Rolex tax and £800 every 4 - 10 years is not bad I don’t think
I have so many Rolexes. Cost a fortune to maintain them all.
I have become friends with authorised dealers as a collector. They do it dirt cheap for me.
I have several locations in the world. One is London.
The job required on my Day/datejust gold would normally cost £900. I paid £40 to my guy.
And w got the watch bathe next day.
Will Rolex service my Casio?
I mean you could try.... You never know.... They might make you pay 10x more... But never hurt to try I guess🤷♂️.... You definitely would be the first tho
run out of battery?
Lovely watch
But imho (neither of them i can afford anyways) the oyster perpetual is the smarter watch
How did I not know about this channel before now?
Run out of battery???? haha
Rolex caliber 4130
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona has been using the same movement for more than a decade. It is powered by the caliber 4130 which is a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex.
The caliber is designed and built in such a way that it demands fewer components than a standard chronograph movement. Fewer components mean less moving parts, less friction, and therefore improving the movement’s reliability.
The Daytona has become a legendary watch from Rolex, having established itself as the single most popular watch from the brand. But The Daytona hasn’t always had this legendary status. In fact, originally, in 1963 when the model was launched, it was not met with celebrations and applauses. It was originally equipped with the Valjoux caliber 72. The fact that the Daytona did not sell well at the time may come as a surprise, but there are even stories of dealers specifically saying they don’t buy Daytonas, and how Rolex retailers gave away free Daytonas as enticements.
You got the watch "Daytona"...now I am waiting to see you behind the steering wheel of the "car Daytona"...🙂
Oooooh!
@@Shwatch150 Or a Panda 🙂
I was quoted $850 for my service. Fix and cleaning
Follow you on Shmee150. Tim you do excellent job covering automobiles. Didn’t know you had a watch RUclips channel till today. Repairs on your Daytona Panda is impressive looks like new again. I wear mine occasionally it’s absolutely a beautiful watch. I just bought Tudor Panda for the price and cleaner look it’s now my daily watch. Keep up good job Tim.👍
Run out of battery?! DaytonaQuartz!
Omega wanted much more $$ to replace the crystal on my seamaster than Rolex. I think the full service cost for your Rolex is more than reasonable.
Fyi... mechanical watches and clocks should be serviced about every 7 years.
No need to service as long as it runs well
it is not glass it is Sapphire is the second strongest jewel on the Mohs mineral hardness scale, second only to the diamond. The crystal is usually made up of a sapphire-quartz combination. The screens are not completely shatter proof since strength is different than hardness, but it does mean that almost nothing other than diamond is able to scratch the face. This means that those who like to keep their watch faces completely scratch-free often go with this watch crystal.
There are many modern examples of using sapphire crystals as screens in watches and other devices. The Richard Mille watch series, including the Tourbillion, is one such example. Sapphire is tough, but it takes delicate work during machining. Such watches often take 1,000 hours of machining with up to 430 hours pre-forming case components and another 350 just for watch case polishing. Watches with sapphire crystals can often cost between $100 and $300 or more depending on the watch. They are also a common addition to diving watches due to their clearness and toughness despite water pressure of 50 meters or more.
🤣🤣
you should clean the watch every month or so... warm water soap and tooth brush..
Sure it looks like new but the downside is you can only do it so many times. When it gets older you might want to avoid the polishing.
Always avoid polishing
850 pounds is 1019 USD. That's really reasonable for a Daytona full overhaul.
The crystal only cost a few quid to manufacture, so it's still ridiculously over priced. My submariner just had a service and that was nearly £800. A new link cost £75 for the oyster bracelet.
Polishing the case is a mistake. You get the shiny “new” thing in exchange for the original lug profile. A refinished case watch is worth less than a scratched case one. I suggest you do your research about the topic and consider it when its time to send the OP 41 for service.
He doesn’t care, he buys watches to wear, not everyone cares about how much a watch is worth, some people buy watches because they love them.
Where is your Daytona??🤣no I am joking. But a polished Rolex is worth more than a greasy, dirty, cracked and scratched up Rolex
@@OJBuxton thanks for your reply. I assume he treats his watches as he does his cars, meaning he would not knowingly do any “repair” that would compromise the integrity or originality of the vehicles. That’s the spirit of my comment. Cheers!
@@cheesedoodle4236 thanks for the reply. I agree with you on the cracked case, not on the greasy, dirty and scratched pieces. I learned my lesson the hard way many years ago, when Rolex returned my then 5 year old watch from service inside the charming green pouch, looking shiny as new, but with pointy and uneven lugs. A disaster... Since then, I always sent watches to service with specific instructions not to refinish the case. In my humble opinion scratches are like wrinkles or white hair, you get them as the watch ages with you, and they make it uniquely yours. Anyway, just saying...people should do whatever gives them pleasure, including polishing away to oblivion. Cheers!
You are 100% correct. Polishing will remove the scratches but they will come back very quickly anyway plus as you say 99% of the time after the polish the shape is different from factory finish like here. We can clearly see the lugs are rounded compared to factory finish.
One day I’ll buy a Rolex
It's a great dream to chase
“Run out of battery”. Mate it’s an automatic movement. No batteries needed unless yours is a fake.
I had respect for you...
Saphire Crystal mate.....not glass.
6:50 ... Battery, LoL.
i tought u have style Tim
Nice b roll close ups
Why not go to Topaz and PPF the Watch ?🤣
I did mention that on instagram, predictably, I got roasted by people saying what a bad idea that would be, also, Tim didn’t reply…
It will be nice if u post anything with an independent service that will take other brands as well as I have some vintage watches, the job they done on your watch is stunning by the way👍
