- Rolex Daytona: HOW IT'S MADE
Watchfinder & Co. presents: Inside the Rolex Daytona, a demonstration of the intricacies of the Rolex calibre 4130. Watchfinder Head Watchmaker Tony Williams shows you how this famous movement is taken apart and reassembled.
A History of the Rolex Daytona:
The Daytona Beach International Speedway in Florida was the birthplace of American stock car racing, which became NASCAR. As races and drivers become more competitive, the sponsors began to roll in, and for racing legend Junior Johnson, that sponsor was Rolex. Soon, the racing bug was in Rolex's blood, and they became an official sponsor of the circuit. That was in 1963, the same year as their watch - also called 'Daytona' - was born.
The Rolex Daytona already existed under another name: 'Cosmograph'. The watch was good, but lacked focus, and the inspiration from the speed of the drivers around the Daytona track was too perfect to ignore. After its re-christening, Rolex's chronograph went on to become one of the most famous, most sought-after watches of all time, commanding waiting lists that spanned into the years.
But the success of the Daytona was not immediate; it's popularity grew over time, and now early examples of the Daytona - and particularly the exotic-dialled 'Paul Newman' - command incredible prices. Rolex's Daytona has been with us for over fifty years now, and its heritage and popularity means it's here to stay

For years I used to "watch" this video before I went to sleep and would dream about owning a Daytona one day. Last year I bought one and it hasn't come off of my wrist since. Love it.
Nice, 18 K gold or full SS?
Congrats man
Congratulations. Me too. 25 years I’ve waited, just got the Ghost on a oyster flex. Only difference is I’m afraid to wear it. I wear my sub or speedmaster
Wow very cool
Watchmaking is a beautiful thing, a true art form.
Really makes you appreciate how much work is put into one single Rolex. Especially makes you appreciate the guys doing their job to repair watches like the Daytona.
OK, I followed along to the part where my Daytona is a pile of individual pieces - give or take some minor pieces that went under the sofa. Now what?
Invest to another watch now
Now boil the parts in the kettle for 5 minutes for the dust to come off
Znu Dzony Can I stick some coffee grounds in there too? I want some coffee, and it would be like killing two birds with one stone.
Don't risk it man. Just boil and don't ask stupid questions
LOL
This is truly an art! Why would anybody dislike this video I don't understand?!
DavideSchachterJazz I agree I don't understand the negativity either and is truly an art!
DavideSchachterJazz People that buy cheap watches like; Puma; Hugo Boss; Polo; Guess; Nike and Adidas
+Triceracop or people who dont understand why people spend thousands on a watch, just because it is somehow ultra accurate, either way it was a cool vid
I disliked it because of the way they cut from scene to scene not letting me see the complete process. It felt rushed and disorganized.
ArbitraryLifestyle they can't reveal too much to protect the brand from counterfeit
That was wonderful - really enjoyed that, thanks.
Incredibly, magically!!! After assembly didn't remain excess parts.
Truly wonderful. Thank you so much for the video.
It is almost as if Rolex is saying, "Just try this at home. I dare you! Now that you realize that you are SO out of your league let us repair it, and don´t even think of complaining about the $1000 bill."
For this movement 1000 dollar won't be enough, indeed.
Awesome video, just makes you appreciate them even more.
Learn to appreciate the exquisite engineering skills of those who designed those time pieces, amazing.
Amazing to watch the art and knowledge of a watchmaker. Such skill. Thank you.
I was talking to a friend who certified at Rolex for a service approval, he told me that the guys who designed the 4130 took inspiration from one of George Daniels movement designs and the way he separated the chronograph module from the rest of the movement and reduced the parts count- so the 4130 has even more pedigree than we assumed!
I have no idea what you just said
Hi ! awesome video you have !! im wondering which devices are you using in order to record all the process ?? and which video editors are you using to make this video ??
Mechanical watches amaze me. It’s incredible how these tiny machines run accurately for years while enduring quite a bit of abuse.
hello, my daytona chronograph second hand misaligned, hot to fix it? thanks
I swear this is alien technology. Unbelievable
Some say Horology is becoming a lost art. To some it is due to the cost. But I dare say, it is still a special craft to 'watch' unfold.
Esta es la magia y el encanto de You tube. Nos muestra vídeos educativos y de gran calidad. Y todo gracias por quienes se toman la molestia de subir dichos vídeos.
Amazing!
Fantastic !
Love this video..
Best watch channel. Keep it up.
Very cool and great camera work :)
Excellent video.
whatever you do, don't sneeze!
Brilliant!
Stunning this is true craftmanship i now have new feelings for my rolex
I now know what the 4130 stands for, its the number of parts in the watch.... lol
This is crazy fascinating! I was going to ask, "If you just got a bag with all the parts in it, would you know what each part is, and could you assemble a complete watch?"
But I think it's pretty obvious you could.
Amazing.
Trabalho maravilhoso!!!!
incredible!
Simply wow
Truly an art! I do not have anywhere near the money to afford a beautiful watch like this, but I will work my butt off to get one eventually! Such a beautiful timepiece, and a very talented watch mechanic! Bravo!
get a Pagani Daytona, you'll be surprised
What you didn't say is that Rolex "Dumbed Down" the Zenith movement, which in its original form is still one of the best chronographs ever manufactured. It also was made to house a triple date and moon phase in its original rollout and was the first 5hz movement.
Very cool
Bellissimo !
What kind of camera was used?
Очень впечатляет.Большой мастер. Такое мастерство достойно самого большого уважения!
Like art... Amazing video.....
Beautifully constructed......
definitely the most celebrated movement.....
Imagine the complexity of the human anatomy......
truly unique if one was to take time out to study it🤔
Dude! All I asked you to do was replace my watch battery!
Nick V no batteries in a Rolex. Self-winding
Learn to recognize humor.
@@crztrtldck There is a Quarz Rolex lol
I have a whole new appreciation
Maestro !!!
Achingly beautiful to watch, thank you for sharing. I assume the "cleaning" is ultrasonic?
wow, amazing job! none parts left after assembly? :D
Beautiful.
Step aside. Hold my beer
This is an art. 👍🏾
Anyone know the manufacture/model of screwdrivers he is using?
Wow that was amazing. I cant imagine the cost of the specialized machines to manufacture those tiny individual parts. I have a better understanding of why these watches cost what they cost and i know i cant afford one or the potential service cost. nice video.
Can someone enlighten me to what the size of the back-opening tool is? 29,5? 35,5? bigger? smaller?
Wow !
instead of reassembling that watch, i rather step on legos
good job, you have my appreciation
Interesting video for sure!
But why no finger protection when handling the movement?
I really appreciate the level of finishing Rolex does on their movements given they don't offer display backs. That is one beautiful movement.
WOw. just imagine memorizing all those parts to assemble it.
I cried watching this video clip, it's so beautiful! :')
I could see where one might. I shook my head from side to side in amazement. I own that watch, and now have an even greater respect for it.
Insane
It would be great to have a DIY kit where you can try to assemble your own watch from the tiniest parts. It could be in a form of a book where each element has a page on which it's shown and described where and how to put it.
+Pawel Misiurski start your product before someone els does
Exquisite engineering and a super-talented watch mechanic - I am in awe. (But I thought he rushed reassembly a little ;-) ) Very nice video!
Super stoked by this watchmaker until he touches the reassembled platina's sides with bare fingers 6:43. I hope it just because of the video.
and this is why I went with Rolex as my watch. The quality is amazing. Mine is perfect in every way.
I didn't know Moby worked at Rolex
So the man does one watch a day then turns out the light and goes home.
do you want him to do 50 and fuck your shit up? i can already tell you can't even afford extra cheese on a domino's pizza
jim halpert why so salty? Many of us had no idea mechanical watches are so complex.
Check out watches like the a. Lange and sohne tourbograph...that takes VARIOUS MONTHS Just to assemble
vule The guy is making it seem like his job is easy😂
jim halpert identity theft is not a joke Jim!
Can somebody please tell me the music name?
No freaking way. I can't imagine doing this every day all day long.
Can somebody explain what actual process is used in cleaning? - he places the components in a machine presses some buttons and closes the door; but what actually happens within?
Outstanding videos of an outstanding craftsman, so good
Ultrasonic cleaner, with solution to remove old oil & grease.
BoronAlloy thanks
how long did that take you?
Dimana saya bisa belajar untuk mereparasi sebuah arloji
amazed
Swiss precision ~
Not a watch but a piece of art.
On my Daytona rep the second hand came off and was wondering if I could put it back
you can, its not hard ;)
SO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO DOES CANNON PINIONS LIKE THAT!!!
a ese relojero lo respeto de corazón buen trabajo ese
Is there any battery inside? Plz ans!!
Why would it have a battery? Didn’t you see all the mechanics 😂
No
Nice. How about a restoration clip?
Nails.
Tanto di cappello....opera meravigliosa......
“Why do I have an extra part”
Wish we had bought one sooner.
Wow
have you ever ended up with an 'extra' piece at the end? lol
Why would you spent thousands of dollars to make this gorgeous video, but not treat the technician to a manicure beforehand?
The best watch every made
the daytona with the zenith movement was the better watch. most of us agree on that one that work on these movements.
Can you believe it only took 7 minutes and 45 seconds to completely disassemble, clean, and reassemble a Daytona?
y close the light?
This watch is ever so beautiful.
+Clesarie not from tourbillon
ferw swer Kay?
Se facessi questo lavoro nel giro di 1 ora diventerei pazzo
Removing the main spring is where I had to stop and visit the eyedoctor....
Respect At 07 Mai 2016
what if he sneezed really hard and blew parts everywhere?
Turn away before you sneeze
Duh
I turn quickly away and after that, I go in myself for a while and continue my work.
@@Shadowwalker1717 "I go in myself" - what does that mean? Is that a sexual thing?
@@JTMarlin8 No a not english native speaker try to explain that I chill or relax a while and continue my work on the movement lol.
The video says “the 4130 surpasses the 4030 for the following reasons:” then never says the reason after that statement. It said it before that but not afterwards
6:15 don't sneeze LOL
He really boogied on the reassembly
