  • It was the watch that caused uproar, queues around the block-at least on paper, anyway. Imagine this, a product so undesirable that they can’t even be given away that then evolves to become something so sought after, people waited years to get one. The new, shiny ceramic Daytona may have stolen the limelight-but is the steel-bezelled 116520 still a watch worth having?

      Rolex knows how to maintain it's brand, which is why any chump who has some disposable income will buy a rolex..thus demand is high..people perceive rolex as a wealth symbol..but these things don't last forever and the higher the inflation the lower they're going to fall eventually! And rolex can't keep the volume of their watches low forever because they're a mass market brand in the mid tier luxury segment..they won't end up making any money and only resellers will make huge profits..so something eventually will give..the bubble always goes pop! Samsung is actually much more advanced with almost complete vertical integration in the technology area. Imagine being offered a Daytona at list from an AD with the hypothetical caveat that you could never sell it. Never. It’s yours for life. Sell it and you drop dead. In the contract. Can you really see £10,500 in that steel watch? Difficult to recalibrate your viewpoint when the hype is gone. In reality Rolex could double the list price overnight and still they’d queue around the block. Triple it maybe. A steel watch. Think about that. That’s the power of the brand. That’s the depth of our greed. Pathetic really - Haha! In 2020 you’d think we’d take our eye off the ball, but sadly no. We’re more hypnotised by this watch than ever before. Up and up it goes out of reach like a fairground balloon on the breeze. Full of helium, hype... but not much more. Those who get their hands on them can’t advertise them for resale fast enough. Sold on and on. Nobody wants to hold on for long. Get rid. Cash in. And who can really blame them?

      That's just the thing. The people that own these watches are at the top of the list precisely because 10 grand isn't a big deal to them and they won't ever sell it, unless their heirs do. Rolex aren't interested in feeding grey market profiteers, or listening to people whinge about the watch being expensive. That's why most people will wait years, it is to shake loose the chancers and the unserious. If you are properly serious (and ADs usually can tell) you'll get your watch much quicker than the waiting lists would suggest.

Heck, I have enough left over I could also add a nice Oris to the mix and be close to equal. I didn't have to wait for mine, either. So, 3 awesome watches, or 1 really average overpriced watch? Hmmm...

    It’s a great shame you’ve decided to sell your soul to include adverts in the middle of these videos; the beginning and end weren’t enough. Completely ruins the flow of the narration. I’ll resubscribe if that changes.

    • @edd2771
      @edd2771 4 года назад +1

      Sold his soul? This whole channel exists to sell watches. It’s literally an exercise in marketing. Let me sit down and gather myself...OK ...So you object to a small advertisement that is interrupting the flow of the much larger advertisement? This is the offense that you equate to a bargain with satan?

    • @mccobr

      If you prefer, replace ‘sell you soul’ with ‘sold out’. Generally they’re pretty informed videos about all sorts of watches and their history. I’ve never really seen them as advertisements, but ok. I hope you managed to gather yourself; very dramatic...

    Comments are full of salty people who can't get a desirable Rolex so they have to rationalize how it's not worth it anyway. Hilarious trying to rationalize something that is a luxury mechanical watch to begin with.

      @I value is subjective with mechanical watches. You could make the case that watches only have a novelty value in today's world. A mechanical watches in essence is inferior to any quartz. Basically its not worth it to your definition of value but the general market demand begs to differ.

    I get the 1988 "new chapter" Daytona, but why differentiate pre-ceramic Daytonas? I get the in-house movement being different, but there's no explanation as to WHY the Daytona "started" the Rolex growth in prestige more than the Sub did. I think a follow up video explanation is required.

The only timepiece that interests me about Rolex is this, but with its artisan watch policy that is not it is totally losing its charm as far as I'm concerned. At the same price at which I can buy a reseller Daytona, I prefer to give myself much more valuable watches. it's a shame because I would buy a daytona in the price list.
