- What a Rolex looks like on the outside is no secret. Being the best-selling luxury watchmaker in the world, chances are the Submariner’s visage is familiar to most of the people here-but what about the inside? What lies beneath that plain, unadorned case back? In an era when most manufacturers are desperate to show off the great amounts they spent on their movement, Rolex continues to buck that trend. Let’s take that case back off and see just what’s going on inside.

Whoever writes the scripts for these videos needs to know he's doing an amazing job 👍
He does it all himself
@@maleangel1983 Well then its just all the more amazing
The overlay while the watch was spinning on screen was a great trick! Nice job.
R u taking about 1:09??
Please never change the format or music, it's ageless like the time pieces you present.
Is it just me who preferred the older music a bit more?
@@sushimshah2896 i cant recall hearing that music, link?
@@outlawbf3 actually, it seems the music here has been what they've used since the first "hand-review" video. Though I think Sushim would be referring to this one ruclips.net/video/CYuqRu3PxyI/видео.html
Can't stand the begging for subs. No pun.
1000% AGREE
Sometime I wonder, how life would've turned out if we all had teachers who spoke with such passion and taught us at school...
Amen to that.
Hyper indoctrination?
Maybe you should have been a better pupil.
And yet here you are. Well spoken and on RUclips flattering a guy paid by a company with the aim to sell massively overpriced second hand watches by promoting them in videos, which also makes them money via adverts. Its a crazy world.
Maybe you should try to speak to a dispassionate group of children trying to sell them on topics they don't care about and ridicule you for not being interesting enough. Now do it several times a day up until you die. Hurts even more when students insult teachers for "trying too hard" just so they can get their attention for a minute.
I have loved watches since I was a kid. This is the first video I learned so much! You explained so much in a small time and I wasn't bored one bit. I love your videos!🤙
"All the French watchmakers were too... well, dead" Nice humour and timing but best of all, very interesting and informative - thank you!
Kudos on the objective and informative overview, since that seems to be so hard to accomplish on Rolex topics and watches nowadays. Great video as always!
Really great and informative video. It's helped me start to understand how a mechanical watch works. Basic knowledge amongst enthusiasts I suspect, but for me it's new information. Great stuff.
I am watching you for more than 3 years I believe. I just want to tell you guys that this is one of the best videos. Congratulations and thank you for all this lovely job
These videos are fantastic. So informative and well presented.
Great take and good to watch the two tone Submariner covered.
Fantastic video! Please do much much more like this. One of my favourite!
I admire all those videos. Dont change anything, keep doing great reviews and be carefully with collaborations which are not that good...
Thank you for posting them... 0:51
I'd like to hear you thoughts on Citizen's chronomaster
I love watches and I love your voice, thank you for making these vid’s!
Hey WF, really enjoyed that piece. Ty!
Thank you for another great lesson. Love these videos.
Could you cover restoring a beat up watch? Could you increase the value of one that has been unloved?
Beautifully shown and explained!!!
Thanks, enjoyed that.
Great video! I would love to see a comparison video with the new 3235 (from the 41mm Sub) to see what changes they made with the new movement...
Great video, thank you Watchfinder.
The day rolex releases a clear back, it will be such a huge news item, the watch will be sold out for years
You missed it. They've already done this (Cellini Prince).
Their watches are ALREADY sold out for years 🤣
Besides, what's there to look at? It's not a very pretty movement.
@@KevW03 haha true, there's a long waitlist for basically every model last time I went in.
@@KevW03 Thats what they tell you.
Fantastic. Thank you!
Please do a video like this explaining the Grand Seiko Spring drive
Back to basics. I love it!
As always brilliant review and I am so proud that you chose the Submariner Rolesor yellow gold and stainless steel with the black face. This is exactly my watch! I chose it due to no all stainless Submariner, though I later realized this was on my vision board, so it makes me very happy. I still sometimes question my purchase because of the popularity of the stainless and the ss and gold can be flashy. I have learned to rock it with a white tee and jeans or even a hoodie and sweatpants as athleisure and it works well. Seeing it in this video reassures my purchase, and I love my 3135 movement. Thanks for all of your detail. Do you, the presenter or anyone else have any comments on the ss and yellow black face sub in this video? Thanks in advance
Exactly 💯
Gold on black always looks nice. With the amount you are paying for a rolex it should look flashy. It's not like today's subs are being used for diving.
Awesome information!
Just one word - Bravo! An exceptional story and a beautiful storytelling. Thank you, sir. Cheers!
I was debating between the 114060 and the 116613LN. After watching this video, I’ve made up my mind. Thanks for settling that debate!
Great video as always, thanks 👍
The solid caseback is a bit like putting a solid plastic valve cover on a V10. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Nice video mate 🥃
Great video!
I have that glorious 3135 in my old 15200 Oyster perpetual date.
One of the most rugged, well designed movements ever made.
Fantastic video.
Great video. Thank You. Sinn please
Just bought my DateJust from the AD and this pops up straightaway. Nice.
As I watch the video I’m admiring my Orient Bambino gen2 . I’m thankful for being able to afford it and as for the Rolex, Mabey tomorrow who knows.
great information
Interesting video. Regards.
Amazing video
Great Video
This was just simply a great video.
Nice and very educational piece on watch movements. The day will come when Rolex start to decorate their movement on a display case back and that will be the day Rolex move up to challenge the watch holly trinity including retail prices.
in the day when everyone wants to be in front of the camera its nice change to have just nice close-quarter
camera work and macro footage
How does this video not have 1 million views! I've loved watches for a long time, and have been fascinated by how they work. I learned so much!
I do prefer a clear case back to enjoy the internals, but only if they're worth looking at! ;-)
Like Seiko 5.
@@RaghunandanReddyC true spot on and i dont see other than purple wheels its nothing to lose sleep over just huge hype, yes accurate watch but not worth the 10k.
@@entroheat clearly you have zero idea what you’re talking about
I don't, make the watch unnecessarily thicker
@@user-oc8cl9rd9y then explain why it's so expensive
The 3135 and other calibers are a beautiful movement, but if they haven't jumped over to display casebacks by now, I doubt they will.
Excellent video
Review the Glamour double date. It's a good one
Got to say, that two tone Sub Date is beautiful. It's more appealing than the classic two tone Sub Date from the 80s/90s/early 2000s.
I had these thoughts. Minus the wide and protruding lugs, this is truly beautiful
It’s truly gorgeous, I just got the call for my 126613LN last week, and I have to say this video doesn’t do it justice
@@triple26 Congratulations! Wear it in good health 😁👍
3135 in the sub uses Kif shock protection. Paraflex in used on the datejust and explorer models!
Another great video
It's interesting the scale of perspective when I watch these videos the item looks huge but the reality is, it's so tiny, how people service this stuff is beyond me
Nice video. But I think Rolex shouldn’t go down the display back route. Solid backs and rugged reliability is the Rolex way.
I kind of expected the movement to be prettier but I don’t really know why. You never see it and that would also go against the tool watch origins to have a really decorated and beautifully finished movement. But still it feels so... plain.
I love this
Very nice watch
@2:20 purple gears? I've gone colour blind or my monitor's broken! ;-)
Yes plastic coated gears 😣 and in Macro shots, not that well finished either.
That's called burgundy.
Been thinking about swapping my 114060 for one of those two-tone sub dates, and I think this is a sign.
That's a really nice watch... 👌
Due to these videos/ narrator I have excelled my education in timepieces. I will definitely purchase a timepiece from them post COVID.
Thank you !
Good luck.
I agree that Rolex could be a little more transparent (sapphire case back), pun intended. Great video as always and thank you for featuring the occasional brand such as Rolex; not everyone has a Patek Philippe bank account, particularly during this pandemic.
Makes me appreciate my 3135 movement Sub Date all the more.
Brilliant
Review the Seamaster black black!
I’m never NOT amazed by the things I learn on this channel, and the beauty of the watches that you’re blue to capture with this incredible cinematography. Please, please, never stop making videos. Better yet, never even change the format. The current content delivery is flawless
I have only one question to all the Rolex haters out there. How would you explain a 1982 Submariner 16800 surviving multiple combat engagements, more then 1000 jumps, multiple combat dives & better then a half million rounds ranging from 9mm - 50 cal, The ultimate tool watch? I would, oh yeah, I still wear it today.
I haven’t even had the need to overhaul my 2008 Sub yet. It’s just as reliable and accurate as the day I bought it new. The steel Rolex uses is far superior in durability and resistance to ordinary dings and scuffs that rather quickly ruined the appearance of my Omega Bond SMP. That Omega has been repaired five times and overhauled 3 times since buying it new in 2004. It’s also been refinished every servicing to keep its appearance decent.
The hassle of owning an expensive yet quite temperamental timepiece has ruined me for anything that is not Rolex.
-10:59
Rolex: haaaahahahaha.....you peasants dont you DARE come NEAR in any of my ADs
Even Omega has a problem showing off the machine that drives the hands. When I sent my Speedmaster Mk 4.5 to Switzerland for servicing costing thousands of dollars, they refused to replace the screw down case back with an exhibition case back even tho I know they do use them on a few other models and I believe the sizes are standardized. Not to complain, as Omega did a fantastic job and it was well worth the price. Just that that little extra of a see thru back would have been nice.
The British being too expensive and the French being too dead 😂😂😂
I looooooooooooooove these videos!
OMG! It's made of stars!
You should really talk as a audible narrator. Amazing job 👏🏻
Are you ever going to ship to Canada?
Looks better, and much higher quality than it is in real life
we demand Seiko Prospex LX to have a video here !
rolex high tech movement is the besttt
One thing I noticed with Rolex is how impossibly smooth the crown thread is. With other watches I need to look for the start of the thread by pushing in and turning counterclockwise, and when I feel a 'jerk' it means I got it. It's kinda like turning the lid of a peanut butter jar backwards. With Rolex, you don't have to do that because you just push the crown in and it catches all the time, unlike some watches where you kinda feel the threads getting stuck and you have to twist back to not risk cross-threading.
Would love to see a watch brand tierlist video lol
Hard to do so since many entry-level brands use both inhouse or sourced movements, and the characteristics may vary from one movement/ watch model to another.
You can't compare Rolex/Omega/Zenith with one another since the price and quality depends on each individual piece; you can't compare Frederique Constant and Vacheron Constantin because, while both watches, they are entirely different things :)
@@JulienMaynard that's why a tier list?
@@JulienMaynard yea that's true but it would still be kinda interesting even though it would be totally subjective and partly nonsense
I love watches in all brands and sizes but Rolex was and always will be my first real love. A lot of watchmakers wear a model of this brand and that’s a great compliment.
Seems good enough for philippe dufour ...
Aside pd's Pepsi, there's roger smith with his explorer etc. Still, what do they know...
having a see through caseback entroduce one more way for water to enter the watch
I think another reason for the plain caseback is that often watches are gifted or handed down through generations. The plain caseback often is engraved with a name or a sentiment...
Many watchmakers give you the option to choose between a sapphire display case or closed one for engraving. Some even would engrave what you want on the caliber itself so.....
What a beautiful piece of engineering
Super elaboration and truly broadening our horizon in the aspect of watches....
This was enlightening. While the masses have Rolex as status symbols and desk divers, knowing they are truly capable is pleasing to know. I guess Rolex is the Watch world like Toyota/Lexus is to cars with high durability, and resale value , and desirability
This is a masterclass in " stories sell" !!!
Great video sub today thank you
Omega 8900 next please!
Underrated movement.
@@leonardoserna2238 True
I've often wished there could be a display back on my sub. Sure, it's not a Lange, but it is pretty well done and fun to look at when the jeweler opens it up. Omega has a rugged, deep diving watch with a display back. Not like it can't be done.
i’ve always wanted an aftermarket sapphire back for my rolexes but it’s seen as taboo by purists. it’s not like it’s permanent though, i don’t know why more people don’t do aftermarket exhibition backs on their rolexes.
Quite honestly, this is the best Watchfinder video to date. I’ve been following along for years now, and this really takes the cake. Thank you for sharing, Watchfinder.
Spent 4 years trying to buy a Rolex Submariner or similar. Bought a Tudor Pelagos recently instead. The Rolex shop in Christchurch, New Zealand has a problem with stock availability. Want a new Rolex ? Forget it.
7:32 People are going to stop letting you borrow these watches if you keep getting grape jelly all over them lol
Omega has an amazing movement that you can see...
That’s why it’s like a brick on the wrist.
My wrist and me like it a lot...
Finally a no-fluff video
Is it only me or is the audio quality way lower than it used to be on ur vids?? :/
You haven't mentioned the German role in watchmaking history!
