Rolex Daytona Ref. 126500 Black Dial & White Dial
Rolex released a brand-new generation of Daytonas in 2023, replacing the first ceramic bezel 1165XX generation. With the new 1265XX Daytonas, the first in-house Rolex chronograph movement, caliber 4130, was discontinued and replaced with the caliber 4131. This newer movement has a more efficient Chronergy Escapement and a rotor with more ball bearings. However, the already substantial 72-hour power reserve remains the same.
The movement also has a new Côtes de Genève Rolex decoration, a design element we can now see via the exhibition case back on the platinum models-the first and only in the Rolex sports watch series to have a sapphire case back.
The movement isn’t the only upgrade Rolex made to the series. The ceramic bezel is now trimmed in metal to match the rest of the watch. So, the white gold model is trimmed in white gold, the stainless steel model is trimmed in steel, and so on. While it looks striking, it also protects the bezel from getting dinged and chipped.
The stainless steel ref. 126500 is still 40mm and is still available with either a black or white dial with red “DAYTONA” text like the duo of watches we unboxed in this week’s episode of “What’s in the Box.” However, the case has been slightly slimmed down to about 11.9mm thick.
Outwardly, Rolex has made several noteworthy upgrades to the new Daytonas that give the watch a slightly different and more refined aesthetic. For example, the rings surrounding the sub-dials are thinner and somewhat resemble the vintage “Big Eye” chronograph. Additionally, the hour markers are slightly smaller and thinner-changes that make the dial appear cleaner.
Like previous models, the dial is still decorated with Rolex’s proprietary “Chromalight,” a long-lasting luminescent material that glows bright blue in the dark and is crisp white in the light. This material is marketed as boasting 8 hours of continuous luminescence and is certainly striking, day or night.
Lastly is the three-link Oyster bracelet and the convenient 5mm comfort extension link.

What makes the Daytonas great (and superior) is the fact that they have NO dates. It would just ruin the aesthetic of a classic piece.

It is also super helpful if you don't wear the watch every day. You don't have the hassle of constantly having to set the date.

I’ll take either Daytona, but for me the white dial is more legible and the markers really pop.
Sorry Emily, team no date here for the Daytona. I do NOT like a date on chronographs, even though I have a Tudor BB 58 chrono. The dial is busy enough with all of the markers, the sub dials, and chronograph markers. As far as white dial vs black dial, I have a reverse panda chrono and a white dial chrono. There's no need to choose except for which one to wear.

got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MaMaCoo 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
Started out with my 16710 Pepsi, but after this I gotta pull for team Daytona and switch to my 116503 BLACK diamond dial. I know some don’t like the diamonds, but it’s a winner for me!

I love the updates to the Daytona! I've registered interest for the white dial. My AD is awesome and they've let me know this one is going to take some time. Lol.

Today my Grand Seiko Katana is on my wrist. I didn't really get a sense of scale on Justin's Deep Sea Challenger until he pulled out the first Daytona. It made the Daytona look like a kid's watch. Emily's lady Datejust really popped with the President bracelet. It's still my favorite Rolex bracelet. Although I am not a fan of chronographs in general, if I had to choose, I'd go white dial.

I ever so slightly lean black dial but this is a case where there is no wrong answer. I prefer the old reference. I like the bolder subdials. Whenever I see the black dial, I just can’t help but think of the Empire from Star Wars - the color scheme and design is perfect for that theme.

Wasn't ceramic used so that it's less "wear and tear"? Putting a metal surround seems counterintuitive to me.
The ceramic bezel on the 126500 offers several advantages regarding wear and tear. But adding the stainless steel ring around the Cerachrom bezel is a practical update given if you were to knock the ceramic bezel edge, it could easily shatter.
Ceramic is good for scratch resistant and color fading from the sun like old GMT bezels but it’s also susceptible to shattering or cracking if you really smack those edges. Now it’s like the Sub and GMT inserts.
So Bob’s is admitting to the fact that greys get to buy out of the back door of ADs at MSRP?
Absolutely no date!!! Date windows just ruin the cohesiveness of the dial. I wish my speedmaster didn’t have date complication. IMHO date only works on the datejust or president.
Today I’m wearing a 1970 Seiko Lord Matic 5600 with the day and date in Kanji and a grey/blueish linen dial.
