...... holy shite .... Ashley, totally get your nervousness when i saw how steep the ramp was, Nahoa was nowhere near level when the tow machine got on the ramp ..... laughing .. "do you hear the ticking", I drive a 86 volkswagen diesel and call it the rattler .. that was no ticking on the second start .. ouch ... Willa sure is demonstrating the sponge thing, taking in all that is going on around .. some save this peeks just before we start school where everything is regimented and we are taught to conform .... you are so lucky to have worked your way into a situation where you will be there for all her milestones and watch her evolve ..... I am anticipating that you really enjoyed your pillows that first night ... thx for the share .... never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
BEN....First engine noise seems to be valve clearance, but the second louder noise could be a bent valve knocking on the piston's head or a spun rod....don't know what has gone with the engine in-between noises but I would remove de rocker cover and check for valves play....from there remove the head next....but sounds no good at all. Also, check your engine rubber mounts, seem they are a bit tired Congrats on going back to boat life.
If you crank for many long times an engine that does not want to start, exhaust fills with water as the raw water pump spins.....that water can backflow to the engine and water-lock it ....or wost...if the engine starts it could destroy the engine (bend rod, crack piston.....) If it doesn't start you must close the seacock, and reopen it as soon as it turns on. Hope this was not the case
My fellow BC's are back! You gotta admire a guy whose at full ease changing a diaper and still doing the presentation. so are we sailing someplace warm yet? Cheers to you both...

After just finishing my 26ft 55yo wooden putt putt boat, (just cleaning and re antifouling) I cringe at the stress you must go through on the hard. Thank you for sharing and all the best.
Yes such a stunning scenery always. I enjoy this a lot. Reminds me of my trips where I take the good music like the Guns N Roses, Imagine Draongs or the Delta Parole and then enjoy the powerful feeling of the sea. ¡vamos!
Like you said, stuck valve. You could try pulling the rocker arm cover and checking and lubing the valve train. I have had that work. Or pull the head and check for damage on piston and valve. Most of the time it's just a bent valve. However, if the head of the valve comes off, total destruction!
Heres a tip...you can paint the rough side of your fiberglass with gel coat / wax addative 2% and 2% mekp mixed into the gel coat. Scuff the durface with 80 grit sandpaper and clean with acetone...then brush on gel coat mixture.

.... Valve, rocker arm, or a piston rod. Pull a glow plug so you can sound a screw driver to the piston top. Roll the engine by hand back & fouth at TDC. Youll feel the play if any
Sounded like a misfire in the first video. Probably air got in the fuel injector lines. Which the injectors on diesel work off pressure and not electronics. Either a good rev will fix it or need to bleed the lines. Second video sounded like piston slap a bit. Need to go in and take off the camshaft and then the valve caps to lubricated/clean the valve stems.
