Thanks for sharing! I'm one of gold miners with a larger gold dredge in Nome. I remember seeing you folks come into port. Looking forward to watching your videos!
I wonder how many people understand how risky this journey actually is. You are beyond the end of the World in a place with few options and completely unforgiving. It is quite easy to simply disappear in this vast emptiness. Only the marvel of modern communications makes this even possible. Great episode.
Agreed! And two glaring details. 1. Having to rely on _Iridium_ which predates Starlink by decades and is awesome but virtually unknown to young people, everyone argues the toss about it and yet here we are with living proof. And 2. Wearing flotation life jackets but not harnesses - means they expect to fall overboard and that they can be recovered before hypothermia has fatal effect rather than avoiding going overboard at all. Not sound practice.
@@dancarter482 While a harness is certainly good insurance it is not full proof. If you have too long a lead you can still go overboard and be dragged by the boat in deadly cold water. If you don't have a system to alert the other crew members all that happens is they can easily drag your lifeless body on board when you're discovered. Of course if you are a strong swimmer, and lucky, you may find your way back on board under your own power. Professionals who depend on lifelines usually have 2 shorter leads and will always have one attached before moving the other to a secure point. It complicates movement but is pretty failsafe if done correctly. Calm water can lull even salty sailors into a false sense of security, but then life is a series of measured risks anyhow.
@@garyjarvis2730 If your lanyard is too long and you can't clip in twice to pass an obstruction you shouldn't be working on deck anyway. You just made my point again!
If anyone wants to get more of an idea of how insane this journey is : look up Franklin's expedition. They were British explorers trying to find the NW passage during the 1850s, they went with 2 wooden tallships and got stuck in the ice for around 2 years before attempting to walk to civilization. In the end none of them made it out alive. They were the most technology advanced and well equipped explorers of their time too.
You have the most interesting stories in the whole RUclips, extremely beautifully and artistically presented to us. Thanks, Juho and Sohvi for being you, doing what you do and letting us enjoy it.
The demeanor, cheerfulness, positivity, and steadfastness of you and your crew is quite impressive on this journey. You are great role models for facing the unknown.
No other channel has this quality of sailing content that I know of. I’ve seen so many Caribbean sailing videos that I feel like I live there but this is all new. Good luck for the rest of your passage.
It’s a bit sad that incredible channels like this, even get compared to that horrendous, clickbait ego maniac, trustfunder rubbish, that most of the other sailing channels infest RUclips with I wish the RUclips algorithm knew the difference! These guys would have loads more subscribers!
I think you're incredibly Brave to undertake such a dangerous Journey, but if anyone can do it it's you because I know you're a great sailor and extremely knowledgeable about Arctic climates
This episode just pushed your channel to the unquestionably best sailing channel on RUclips. Awesome sailing, awesome filmming and editing, and not just a little bit of good luck with the weather on that entrance into the lagoon!
One of your best videos, excellent photography, and a great story, and you make it like we're with you ... great job , love your dry sense of humor..😊.
That was a very nervous leg when following your live tracking. I woke several times during the night to check progress and it was a relief to finally see you located in the lagoon. Great to now learn the back story and answer all the questions we were wondering at the time. Awesome work.

Simply the most amazing sailboat/adventure channel on RUclips. Thanks for sharing it with us who will never take on a challenge like this. Truly amazing stuff.

absolute gem within sailing channels. I have been watching your videos for several years. But without doubt I could not see this coming, I admire your courage for choosing this route and as you explained here there risks that you guys are taking are pretty damn real!
Hello my friends! I've been avidly following you for many months now. I live on a 42 ft ketch near Vancouver BC, and you are very inspiring to me as a sailor! Here's an interesting coincidence: the boat behind you in this video, Golivin Bay, just completed sea trials at the shipyard beside Shelter Island Marina where I live! To think that ship was built here in Vancouver and now it's all the way up in Nome Alaska! My neighbor installed the electrical systems on that ship! I like these little synchronicities along the way! Happy sailing our Intrepid Travelers!
I appreciate it when you have sponsors that you recommend because it helps me when I choose products because I have great respect for your knowledge and products thank you
There was a tradition in the British navy that glasses were not "clinked". One that I, as a precaution to the sea God's, maintained when sailing. There again I only got as far North as the Alaska border, so much admiration to you Finns.
It's always interesting to recognise the drinking salutations from different countries which often share a commonality...at 37:15 the charming captain toasts 'Nice leg everyone' which brought to my mind the toast often made in Italy of 'auguri in tutti gambi'...another reference to the leg. Great to see your safe arrival to the lagoon. Often when you watch a film where the destination is reached after a relatively risky approach, you are drawn into the atmosphere by a tense build-up of mood music and voice-over...in this approach to the lagoon I found the tension to be very real and yet it was the result of the consistently level and factual monologue by the captain whose manner is so often laced with sang-froid and humour...for me he (and the crew) are absolutely the best heads to be with in dangerous or trying circumstances. Does any of the above make sense !? Kudos to all the crew.
I like how you explain the difficulties and dangers you have to mitigate. Very interesting to actually see a part of the world you have only read about! Minttu mixed with Baileys is not bad!
"Bold, but calculated move." Not knowing the outcome, as of 25:23 into the video, I think it's a good move. You're definitely the adventurous trailblazer! Good luck, and God be with you! You've definitely got me sitting on pins and needles... Awesome footage and music of the three vessels!
