A few months ago I woke up with the JHS intro song stuck in my head. I could just not place it. It was driving me mad. It's a banger. I hummed it to friends and family for help. No one could place it. Today, I can finally rest.
Yoshi is such a nice guy, and has never failed to reply back and answer even the most silliest of questions I've sent him. A true legend in his field, and a lover of fine cuisine and wine apparently. Great video Josh! Thanks!
I love the parallel mode on the JB-2. It got me thinking and I set up a split signal on chain with a volume pedal on one side that allows you to mix an effect into your basic sound. Using it with an overdrive gives you a real time variable distortion for emphasising certain sections.
Gigrig have something that does this called the Wetter Box. You can use an expression pedal to control the mix. I have one, it's a cool utility. Not the cheapest solution but built like a tank!
Ooh i have everything needed to try this out, im gunna have to see how i like it for my rig. I do have the original pigtronix disnortion that has fuzz and overdrive in parallel(or you can turn the gain all the way down on either to make them boosts) and they really sound great in parallel and definitely fills out the sound really nicely
I’ve been using the Angry Driver for the last 6 months or so and I love it. I’m putting together a nano+ board right now and having so many options in a single pedal is a huge space saver on a small board!
I saw this in an Atlanta shop in October, searched for this exact video which was clearly not out yet, bought it anyway, and now am thrilled to see this video is here to validate my impulse decision 3 months later!
Christmas lights have actually been wired in parallel for decades now. That’s why they get brighter as the bulbs die rather than going out after the first one. Great video and pedal

This is definitely my next pedal. I have a JHS Andy Timmons and love the Angry Charlie circuit. I also love the old Boss Blues Driver. I tried one of these pedals at my local shop and was extremely impressed. It just checked all the right boxes. Incredible feat of engineering.
I was just searching for a demo video of yours for this the other day, glad it’s finally here! Also picked up a 3 series Chorus this week, what an excellent pedal.
I'm gonna be 100% honest. I have put a WICKED little guitar studio together this past 2 years. I am on limited funds, a player of 30+ years (with a lil' YT channel if you wanna stick ya head in!). Without you, Josh, and your review, I would NEVER have bought the Behringer clone of the Tubescreamer. It really WAS as good as you said. I then released my fears and starting buying inexpensive pedals - you personally brought colour into this space. In a spirit of gratitude, I decided I would buy one of your pedals sometime, I thought, something worth the boutique choice that I cant afford to often give myself (it has to be said, I DO have a few pricey pedals, mostly coz Ive had them for ages and they massively increased in value. But, I bought a new Boss pedal last year so I'm not totally at the 'economic' end). So I have looked through everything. On my shopping list, the 'Bender' - I think YOUR version of my all-time fave is the one worth plumping for. And you DO have heavy competition! But I have seen the journey of how you arrived at producing that pedal; I have faith in you passion. So that is on the list. A genuine Blues Driver BD-2 is on the list. I like Boss drives, and my stage distortion is Boss. I have a few, and intend to make a good tone-palette of Boss drives. Instead of buying the BD-2 I'm gonna go that bit extra and buy this, Crazy Charlie. I have seen them, but now I know more about them, I'm kinda hooked. So, look forwards to introducing your work, Josh, to my rig, which is a precious zone of sonics in my life. Look forwards to it, man! All the very best for '22 from the UK
I've owned it for just over 3yrs. I definitely use the Blues Driver side more, but with the music I usually play, the BD fits better. I use the Angry Charlie side as anoher stage of gain, and have never been disappointed. It's a Great pedal. And it's fun to change the order of the two, or parallel and series. It's my overall favorite drive pedal I've ever owned. Get one, you'll love it.
It was so amazing to watch all the builders at the pedal party (at the bowling alley) so much respect was shown to Yoshi. I’m actually glad I dragged the whole BOSS Namm team to that party.
Thought you did another one for a second there XD Always been interested in this pedal though, the angry charlie is one of those dream distortions to have, while the blue driver is a classic that I've still never tried myself. Plus its about half the price of getting both separately.
This is not an current 4/5 knob Angry Charlie circuit, he is not going to undercut his own product. But, the bread board PROTO AC circuit together with the BD 2 is a great thing! parallel mode is where it shines
I LOVE this pedal in parallel mode. I fell in love with it all over again when I found a cool setting the other day - bass from the JHS circuit, with some sparkly overdrive on top from the Blues Driver. Such a full sound. Magnifique!
I literally bought one of these last week and I absolutely love it! Gives me an amazing, powerful, Marshallesque crunch tone that sits very nicely between my clean tone and high gain channel.
This is my favorite pedal, no joke. I think the best feature is being able to switch among the two pedals with different settings or stack or series. It's so versatile and there's not a bad sound in it. I would love to see more collaborations between your two.
Thanks Josh. I got this in 2018 not long after I seriously started getting back into guitar after some fallow years. This is the most versatile distortion I own. Pedals should inspire and those series and parallel settings give you a wealth of options that are so fun to play with. Thank you.
Just purchased the last unit of BOSS Angry Driver JB-2 at my local distributor in Malaysia. I'm just right on time. It will be always in the box for sure. The BOSS 40th Anniversary collection now completed. Thank you for doing your thing. It touches my world. ✊🏽
I had a friend come from the states and he had among other pedals an angry charlie (v2) and I played around with it, using it in the end as a "booster" pedal and before the main distortion, and the sound was devastating. Fell in love with it after that. Great work man.
I bought a JB-2 a couple of years ago to have both an Angry Charlie and a Blues Driver when needed. At first I did just that, used the Red Remote to switch between the two and was happy. Soon I started experimenting with the series and parralell modes and found I love to push the Blues Driver into the Angry Charlie. So just a great collaboration pedeal. Thanks!
Very enjoyable episode. I have the Boss JB-2 Angry Driver and love it. It is probably the most versatile overdrive/distortion pedal I have. It has so many different options. You can get anywhere between slight tubey overdrive all the way to full blown insane distortion with this pedal. Much appreciated pedal. Thank you for your involvement with this great pedal. It brings a lot of excitement and joy every time I use it.
Hey, Josh, I've had the Angry Driver for years and absolutely love it. I just gave it to a friend as a birthday gift, and his first words were, "Angry Driver is mighty."
Well JHS you did it again. I really dig the demos showing the versatility and tone of all pedals you showcase. Just ordered one of these yesterday . This now brings my JHS collection up to 3. Colourbox v2 and the Artificial Blonde.
The sound on “1000 punches” and “Orion’s Belt Buckle” was just fabulously unbelievable. Had to immediately rewind and listen to these again. I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach it won’t be long before the JB-2 will be a permanent resident next to the Charlie Brown, Double Barrel, and AT+ (not to mention all the others) that are already here… I really thought I was covered on that end. Apparently there is no such thing as “enough overdrives and distortion pedals” when you watch the JHS show. On the other hand, you just *know* the moment I order it there will be a waza JB-2W announced…
no lie this is my favorite distortion pedal. i got to play a buddy's JCM800 years ago and could not get the sound out of my head. and when i tested this out, i'd finally found it again. so thank you, i can get that sound without shelling out for a JCM800. probably not unusual but i use it for atmospheric black metal. the harmonics from the JCM distortion are perfect for tremolo picking, and blending it parallel with the blues driver side did WAY more for it than i expected it to.
LITERALLY MY FAVOURITE OVERDRIVE PEDAL EVER I seriously hope the JB-2 stays in perpetual production, it's easily the most versatile BOSS drive/dirt pedal ever and sounds incredible in front and and in the effects loop of basically *any* amp Edit: shout outs to Rabea Massaad's video on this, sold me on the pedal and interestingly enough, his demo of the Charlie>BD-2 cascade was huge for me
Love hearing you talk about parallel drives. I bought a Boss LS-2 last year to experiment with parallel effects, and parallel drives quickly became my favorite use of that pedal. When I set it up, it always feels more complicated than I want to deal with, but the sounds can really be worth it. Edit: Also, love the love for Fetch the Bolt Cutters. Incredible record.
I've had this pedal on my radar for a while now, and when I cleared off my credit card last week, I took the plunge. Have to say I am very pleased. Only one gripe I have is that there's a lot of background in the series modes (I use P90) but a noise gate sorts that out with no bother. Great pedal. And my first toe dip into JHS stuff. Thanks Josh.
Awesome josh thank you man! I've been looking hard at this and the angry Charlie and will be pulling the trigger on one of them...great work as always...you are the benchmark for the nerds ...at least this one
Fingers crossed for a version 2 angry driver..lol ..I've been exploring the endless depths of the muffaletta for months..barely scratched surface yet...bravo man.. unbelievable pedal.. bonsai and packrat will be in my cabinet eventually as well...really no better bang for your $$ anywhere in the boutique pedal world..
Hey Josh! I know we make such a big deal about running a distortion pedal into a OD pedal, but we don't fully realize we are already doing it for centuries: everytime you run a distortion pedal into an crancked/edge of breakup/overdriven AMP, that same thing is happening (and we love it).
I bought this pedal not expecting much beyond some simple gain options on my board. A year or two later, I can confidently say this is my favorite pedal on the board. It's so fun, so versatile, so easy to use, the form factor is excellent, and it looks nice which matters plenty to me 😂. My favorite setting so far has been the AC between noon and 3:00 into the BD at about 10:00 to noon; huge, bright, high voltage sound that's great for leads and even some chugging through my Orange amp.
RECORD TIME SUGGESTION: HUM’s “You’d Prefer An Astronaut” Please check it out if you haven’t. This album takes “shoegaze” and smashes it with walls of trippy driven guitars, backed by unique, jaw dropping, drums. It a perfect use of the “shades of colors” sound, and “beautiful quiet to heavy” formula. It blows me away that after 20 something years of listening to this album,Im still hearing new sounds and textures. They are still so influential to me and countless others..
Every Fiona album is my favorite! I’m a huge rock nut but her albums for me are right up there with my zep Hendrix and rush records. Purely original musical genius!
I have the JB2 and I love it! Favorite setting is parallel mode. I honestly use the Blues Driver setting for most things, but if I need my guitar to stand out and be full, the parallel is where it's at. So many possibilities with tones though.
I have watched so many pedal demo videos etc. That's the best combination of guitar sounds I've heard on the internet. So pleasing and gnarly at the same time wow. Very organic. Kinda jealous not gonna lie 😅
Love the Mamiya shirt, Josh! My first camera was an old 70s Mamiya 35mm.... which is still limping along to some of my shoots when I can find the odd film roll.
You should definitely have this video translated to include Japanese subtitles if you haven’t. Congrats! In support of you and to thank you for all the free content i’m getting the BOSS Angry Driver today.
I never knew about this collaboration! How cool! Two awesome pedal companies working together I love it. I love that Boss wasn’t too big to do a compilation with JHS. Very cool
I love this pedal. It’s become the centerpiece of my board; love how the jhs circuit pushes the blues driver circuit into borderline fuzz territory, with the tone stack of the blues driver. Not to mention it looks killer.
I got back into making music again last year and wanted to be pretty minimalist on the gear to keep it simple, and while looking at Blues Driver reviews I found the JB-2. Knew immediately it was the right thing and have been using it for about 5-6 months. Really versatile and hard to get a bad sound out of it. The only downside is that I love the colour scheme of the BD-2.
Simple truth: JHS Pedals are the best! tried lots of pedals, but I always keep coming back to JHS: tone and feel like no other! Thank you JHS for existing!!
I have an Angry Driver and it never leaves my board, and mostly never gets shut off! The sound I actually get to use all the time in my band context is just the Blues Driver side set pretty clean, but I love the B>J mode. The fuzzy attack is super satisfying!
GREAT video, might pick up this pedal or an angry Charlie v1 after witnessing this video. I'm going to play guitar right now cause you suggested it! Cheers!
For decades I was a multieffects guy. The only pedal I had was an old Washburn Stereo Chorus. A few years back when I decided to start getting pedals, my first Boss pedal was either the JB-2 or the DA-2. I got them both around the same time. My favorite thing to do with the JB-2 is to turn both sides all the way up in parallel mode.
This video made me realize that we often put high gain pedals into a slightly crunchy amp, but also almost never try putting a high gain pedal into a lower gain pedal. Would be fun to try a board where the last pedal is a low gain overdrive as a baseline tone.
I use the Angry Charlie into the BD-2 with the remote, with some slapback delay from a Boss DD-3 as my main distorted sound. It's a fantastic caustic sounding distortion.
i can't wait to buy my first JHS pedal! I'm a proud supporter just a grain of sand on a beach of beautiful guitar expression. and the intro and outdoor theme songs are so amazing live you guys so much been watching so many videos and I love the album at the end that is am aging bonus
Thank you so much for sharing the history lesson and the demonstration. The pedal is very versatile and now I need one lol! You asked so I will also say that my favourite Fiona Apple album is her first, Tidal. I bought my first CD player in my last year of high school in 1993 and Tidal was the second CD I ever bought. And of course, because I only had two CDs, I played the heck out of it and it is still great today.
Bought this one last week and it's amazing!!! I like very very much the BD and AC modes, but the J->B mode is phenomenal! Pretty good result from this collaboration!
Do you know how crazy it is to go from modding pedals in a shed to collaborating with Boss. Amazing JHS just amazing

RECORD TIME SUGGESTION:
HUM’s “You’d Prefer An Astronaut”
Please check it out if you haven’t.
Have you heard of the Leyland Pedals Hum Along? I have one and really love it. It’s a clone of the DF-2.
the parallel mode takes you to different realms / love it!
Every Fiona album is my favorite! I’m a huge rock nut but her albums for me are right up there with my zep Hendrix and rush records. Purely original musical genius!
You Guys and Gales do a great job.
THANK YOU.🤘
I have the JB2 and I love it! Favorite setting is parallel mode. I honestly use the Blues Driver setting for most things, but if I need my guitar to stand out and be full, the parallel is where it's at. So many possibilities with tones though.
Cool shirt! I had an RB67 back in the day, great camera!
I still use one myself. Built like a tank
I love the Angry Charlie v3 and often use a BD-2 in front of it.
Got one not long ago and it replaced my Hot Cake. The sound of BD>AC was actually mind blowing and I got it for $100 used. Fantastic job with the JB-2
Thanks!
Always loved “When The Pawn…”, but lost track of her, and look forward to checking out Fetch The Bolt Cutters - thank you!
Never been a fan of the use of "Amazeballs" but when Josh says it, it fits perfectly.
You should definitely have this video translated to include Japanese subtitles if you haven’t. Congrats!
In support of you and to thank you for all the free content i’m getting the BOSS Angry Driver today.
Great pedal and great jams!
Josh’s playing was on another level today man!!!!
Sick slide tone from the parallel setting. Much better than you-know-who's tone.
I never knew about this collaboration! How cool! Two awesome pedal companies working together I love it. I love that Boss wasn’t too big to do a compilation with JHS. Very cool
This has been my favorite pedal since it came out. And PS…it sounds great on bass too
I love this pedal. It’s become the centerpiece of my board; love how the jhs circuit pushes the blues driver circuit into borderline fuzz territory, with the tone stack of the blues driver. Not to mention it looks killer.
Parallel and Angry Charlie are my 2 fav settings though it has great sounds at every turn of the knobs and the options are astounding!
One of the best shows on the whole RUclips guys!
That bread board is so cool. I’m glad that you are so deep into pedal history..so many guitar collectors but I come here for pedal info
This has never left my pedalboard since day one, it’s my essential pedal for everything
Aye big love for Mamiya cameras too!! Got an RB67!
Me too :)
It’s a really great sounding pedal. I use it all n my board with a Tube Screamer and usually just leave it on the Angry Charlie setting
Simple truth: JHS Pedals are the best! tried lots of pedals, but I always keep coming back to JHS: tone and feel like no other! Thank you JHS for existing!!
Just have to say that this is the most epic pedal on 303 basslines 🙃 thank you!
I have an Angry Driver and it never leaves my board, and mostly never gets shut off! The sound I actually get to use all the time in my band context is just the Blues Driver side set pretty clean, but I love the B>J mode. The fuzzy attack is super satisfying!
What a lovely thing. You should be rightly proud - congratulations.
GREAT video, might pick up this pedal or an angry Charlie v1 after witnessing this video. I'm going to play guitar right now cause you suggested it! Cheers!
Congratulations and welcome to Japan, Josh. I am happy this ultimate collaboration has come true!!
I get this pedal few weeks ago, just the best pedal I never had so far
Very poweerfull
Bravo
For decades I was a multieffects guy. The only pedal I had was an old Washburn Stereo Chorus. A few years back when I decided to start getting pedals, my first Boss pedal was either the JB-2 or the DA-2. I got them both around the same time. My favorite thing to do with the JB-2 is to turn both sides all the way up in parallel mode.
Love this pedal!! So many options, clean to super crunch.
Great episode! You don't push your own story enough!
It's a fantastic caustic sounding distortion.
holy jesus, blues distortion into angry charlie is completely sick
i can't wait to buy my first JHS pedal! I'm a proud supporter just a grain of sand on a beach of beautiful guitar expression. and the intro and outdoor theme songs are so amazing live you guys so much been watching so many videos and I love the album at the end that is am aging bonus
Some of the best work on the crash/ride ever.
The parallel setting sold me!!
Great tones Josh & killer drum sounds too. I could easily hear more of JHS instrumental jams ... rock on 9O's forever !
One of the very best and a favourite of mine in my (large) Boss collection. Amazing tones and flexibility, Josh. Great work.
Love my Angry Driver. The remote switch really opens up this amazing pedal!
Great Pedal - even BETTER Mamiya t-shirt!
Jhs Angry Charlie into Blues Driver is my ticket to 80s hair metal. I just tune the AC like a Tubescreamer. Tnx for the collab!
I bought one of these pretty much immediately after watching this video.
Absolutely sick pedal.
the second to last jam had me caught up reflecting and deeply considering things it was such a beautiful moment these videos are golden!
